Joy of Killing Hits Number 3 on Local Bestseller List
The Joy Of Killing hit number three on the Local list today.
It’ll never catch Go Set the Watchman, number one, but number two, Badlands–wasn’t that a movie starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek as Charlie Starkweather and Caril Fugate, who rampaged and slaughter in Lincoln NE (my home town) before heading up to Wyoming?

Joy of Killing Launch Party
Three recent graduates of Lawrence University startled by the provocative images in “The Joy of Killing” at a book launch party at Sharon Brown’s Pattern Shop Studio in Denver. Books were provided by the Tattered Cover, and we had young and old alike. Best event so far. Thanks to Sharon and Rex for hosting it.

The Italian Job
The Italian Job — the Joy of Killing will be published by Fizi, a major Italian publisher, next year. The agent said “The Italians love these crazy kind of stories.” I would hope the French do too, but frankly, I can’t see the Germans getting into it, or the Russians. British? Maybe, if they loosen up a little.

Tomorrow is Pub D day for “The Joy of Killing,” after all these months of waiting. Publishers Weekly selected it as a pick of the week, and 303 Magazine published a nice interview. Let’s hope the momentum continues.

Strange how things work – the “Joy of Killing” hits the shelves the same day an excellent review of the book is published by the Denver Post. The book is available as an e-book and hard copy at Amazon, as well as all chains and independent bookstores. http://www.amazon.com/The-Joy-Killing....
The Denver Post states that the books is as “frightening as it is compelling” and describes it as a masterful “dark literary work” that is impossible to put down.

Take It From A Former Guard
I was a guard for a year in a maximum security prison on the east coast. I worked everything from the yard to the gun towers to death row. The recent escape of the two prisoners in upstate New York reminded me of one thing that was pounded into us from day one in training: when you’re doing a prisoner count, the only thing you count is “Living breathing flesh.” Not pillows bunched up under blankets, the oldest trick in the book.
The brilliance and planning of the escape also reminded me of an...

Big Day — Books Arrive
Big day –a box of hard copies of the Joy of Killing appeared on my door step. Experience tells me to be wary of a let down when the finished product finally hits your hand, but this book has been so beautifully produced by Counterpoint Press I could only marvel at the cover art and design. Soon, perhaps on the airplane tomorrow, I will open it and begin to read. Now that prospect is a little scary.

The Joy of Killing — Strong out of the blocks
Friends:
The initial reception of The Joy of Killing is very, very strong. Publishers Weekly, the Bible of the publishing world, gave a starred review in today’s issue, which is very prestigious. http://reviews.publishersweekly.com/-.... The first sentence reads:
“A man’s desperate struggle to recapture his past propels this brilliant first novel from Edgar Award–
winning true crime writer MacLean (In BroadDaylight).”
A few weeks ago, Kirkus also gave a very positive review: htt...
