Birthday Report

Shawn kept telling me she had one of the best birthdays ever yesterday, and I think it had a lot to do with the fact that she got well wishes via Facebook. How the times have changed, eh?

But I was pretty pleased with the presents I gave her as well. Thanks to the economy her "to-be read" shelf is actually empty. I was thinking about snapping a photo of it, because it's such a rare (and forelorn) sight. Anyway, she was complaining about having to re-read books she bought decades ago just to h

They Liked Me!

I just got 4 Stars from Romantic Times Bookreviews!!

Here's what Jill M. Smith has to say about DEAD IF I DO:

"Nothing in the life of Hallaway's heroine every goes exactly as planned, which generally leads to madcap mayhem. This chapter in the first-person series is packed with humor, wackiness and a touch of pathos. It's a genuinely heartwarming treat for fans!

Go me.

Happy Birthday, Shawn

No, it's not an April Fool's day joke. Today my beloved turns 42! Hooray!

In fact, in a few minutes I'm off to go shopping and then to bake a cake. I've got the babysitter lined up for tonight and, fingers crossed, all should go well with much Margaritas!.

How Many Books Do You Read (at Once)?

Currently, I'm reading about three books.

This seems to be a condition of the fact that I'm reading more non-fiction than I used to. When I'm reading fiction I tend to stick to one book at a time. But, I get more bored with non-fiction, so I have several I carry around and read whichever one I'm in the mood for.

Currently, I'm reading Mysteries of the Dark Moon: The Healing Powers of the Dark Goddess by Demetra George, and Chiron and the Healing Journey: An Astrological and Psychological Perspe

Monday, Monday....

Spend this morning running around replacing cards and ID and such lost when my wallet was stolen over the weekend. I feel awfully stupid about it, because the whole mess could have been avoided if I'd just bought a lock at the community pool that Mason and I went to for a friend's birthday party.

I'm too trusting, is the problem.

Normally, despite living in the "inner city," I rarely lock my car (although after this last weekend I have been.) I tend to leave the door to the house open when I'm h

Goddess, Revisions, and Meditations

I *do* hope to write more about my epiphany about duality, once I figure it out more. I started a new book THE MYTH OF THE GODDESS: EVOLUTION OF AN IMAGE by Anne Baring and Jules Cashford. I'll let you know if anything comes of it.

Right now, I'm concentrating on finishing up a rather major revision for HONEYMOON OF THE DEAD, which is due at the publisher in May for a '10 release. For those that have been following this blog, you probably remember I wrote most of this over the course of two mo

Duality Sucks

I've been a student at WitchSchool.com for several months now. Despite a heavy writing load this year, I've dutifully continued my studies and have even found time to read a number of supplemental books on Wicca and Witchcraft. (The nice thing, of course, is that my writing and my religious reading intersect in so many ways!)

As part of lesson seven, I think, in the first degree program, we're encouraged to do some research into Gods and Goddess -- their history, myths, lore, etc... and I think I

Already Off to a Bad Start

For some reason I thought TODAY was New Moon, not, uh, this coming Saturday...and now I just feel dumb. But to be fair, the rest of the day started well. The weather is very... European today. The air is moist and chilled, but the temperature is a very mild 50 (F). Most of the traveling to Europe that I did with my family was during the cheaper winter months, so this kind of cool, wet, overcast, but warm enough day always reminds me specifically of Paris.

Anyway, Mason and I took a walk this

Awesome Poetry

This is from GODDESS COMPANION by Patricia Monaghan (my new favorite writer on pagan/Goddess subjects:

I am the goddess, mistress of the land.It is I who created the unbreakable laws.
It is I who divided earth and heaven.
It is I who charted the stars.
It is I who set the moon and sun overhead.
It is I who ordered the tides.
It is I who brought men and women together
and I who created all the mysteries.
It is I who made justice stronger than wealth,
and I who designed penalties for evil.
It is I who fir

Spring Equinox Eve

My household is a twitter with the excitement of the impending spring equinox. The eggs are decorated. The altar is set. Birds are chirping excitedly just beyond the windows. The cats nap happily in a pool of sunshine on the porch. And this morning, in my back yard, I had a face-to-snout encounter with Peter Rabbit, himself, the grand old hare.

I was headed out on garbage detail, and I whipped open the garden gate. There he sat: a huge, powerful, old rabbit. He, of course, bolted the instant he s
