Just how sexy can historical novels be?

To the surprise of no one, romance novelists often talk about sex when they get together. When my writing pal, debut author Sara Jane Stone, and I were chatting about sex it was how soon it has to happen in a book. She writes super sexy Blaze books for Harlequin where sex must happen by, like, page 20. She’s always advising me to add more sex to my novels. “But my plot won’t allow it!” I protest. That’s the thing—historical romances derive so much of their tension from the rules and restrictions around sex. Or rather: not having sex.

10K Tuesday: Secrets for Success

When I first wrote about my 10K Tuesday challenge, it was so that I would have something to blog about and to motivate myself to see just how much I can produce. Also, I had a book due and it was in need of words. But then that post got an amazing response from y’all and the encouragement from folks on Facebook and Twitter kept me going throughout the day. After all, people were expecting updates. I couldn’t just slink off at 7,846 words and call it a 10K Tuesday. And then something even better happened. Other writers took up the 10K Tuesday challenge. So I thought, heck, mayhaps we could all share some tips on how to write such an insane amount of words in a fairly limited time. I asked the lovely Jerrica Knight-Catania, author of Stage Bride, to share some of her tips.

The Most Scandalous Behavior of All…

I hadn’t even opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate turning my latest book in when I realized what it was missing, thanks to Wendy Davis, a champion for women's rights in pink sneakers and my idol, Courtney Love, the original riot grrrl.

Finding a Regency-era Hooters and other problems

I’m down to the wire on deadline with a new book and I’m stumbling on all the things I thought I’d “research later.” It’s now “later.” Imagine me wringing my hands in anguish and sighing tragically while muttering unladylike words under my breath. Thus, I turn to you, dear readers, for advice on all my confounding problems.

News from the desk of the authoress…

Here’s what I can tell you about book #2: Good girl gone wild. Brooding hero with a tortured past. And a 485 word examination about whether or not to wear a bonnet. Could it be used for a murder weapon or in self-defense? And why is my heroine on such a dangerous picnic?. There was a big discussion on twitter about it. We decided more millinery dramas were in order.
