Fun, Flirty Reads for Valentine’s Day

It’s that time again when the whole world is obsessed with love. These romantic reads will get you in the mood for romance and/or will be an excellent accompaniment to a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine. They might also give you some (naughty) ideas of how to celebrate Valentine’s Day. While a few of these titles are pure escapist fantasy, there are few stories of real-life romance, too.

The Real Men Who Read Romance Novels

It is a truth universally acknowledged that men do not read or write romance novels…unless they are attempting to “cash in” or use phrases like bodice ripper or burning desire. However, according to statistics from Romance Writers of America, 9% of romance readers are guys. Who are the real men who read and write romance novels just because they like it? I spoke with a few of them and about the portrayal of men in the genre, how people react to them, and how to make these books more appealing to dudes. Here's what they have to say...

I'm delighted to announce that the second installment of Jane and Duke's romance is now available for your reading pleasure! Some reviews are already posted on Goodreads but nothing tops the review from my bestie: "My sweet, you have outdone yourself. It is so fucking smart and engaging and personal and sexy." I should note she reads all my books and has never raved thusly before. Check out an excerpt and learn more about the book!

From Sex and the City to Life as a Wife

Can I call you Cindy? We haven't met but I feel like you're a friend since I've watched every episode of Sex and the City (many of which you wrote, produced and won awards for) and I think we all agree the show is basically like another girl friend. But then I got married, and so did Carrie, Big and every other rom com couple, leaving no one to confer with on my weird "am I normal?" questions about marriage. And then, like a good friend who knows just what to say at just the right time, you were there with your new book, The Longest Date: Life as a Wife.

Sex, reputation, and leaning in: A romance author’s favorite books of 2013

I confess: after a long day writing novels, I don’t always want to spend the evening looking at more words. Having said that, there is no greater pleasure than becoming absorbed in another author’s world. These books are my favorites from 2013—ranging from historical non-fiction to contemporary romance, they are the books that kept me stuck on the couch, up past my bedtime, made me think or even made me want to get back to writing.
