April 21, 2015: Grab Ogre, Support Car Wars

During the Ogre Designer's Edition Kickstarter project, back in 2012, we gave Car Wars players the chance to support Ogre . Today, thanks to the miracle of a special Ogre sale at Warehouse 23, Ogre fans can return the favor to  Car Wars!  Every Ogre item purchased on Warehouse 23 during April counts as virtual dollars toward the Car Wars Arenas stretch goals. This means that you can grab an Ogre shirt or two and support Car Wars at the same time!

If you haven't joined the Car Wars Arenas project yet, now's your chance. The Pro Duellist reward gets you one copy each of Car Wars Arenas , Car Wars Classic , and Car Wars: The Card Game , as well as free PDFs that have been unlocked as stretch goals. See the Kickstarter page for more info, and don't forget to visit Warehouse 23 to add more  Car Wars and Ogre toys to your collection.

Warehouse 23 News: Even Running To The Hills Won't Be Enough When The Ogres Show

First brought to the table in 1977, Ogre Pocket Edition still holds up almost 40 years later. If you never had the chance to play it in the good ol' days, Ogre Pocket Edition is exactly what you're looking for. At its original price of $2.95, this game only takes up the size of a pamphlet. Ogre is a hex-based miniatures game that takes minutes to learn and 30 minutes to play in its basic form. There are also enough tokens included to build a couple different versions or make your own! With the simple, pocket-sized game of Cthulhu Dice , you take on the role of Cultist with the aim to be the most sane by game's end while stealing sanity from your fellow cultists. April 23, 2015: RIFTS Goes Savage

RIFTS

RIFTS .

Man, that brings back memories.  RIFTS was my go-to game back in high school, and I played it with my friends all the time. We owned, between us, somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty  RIFTS  books, a stack so large that it monopolized a lot of the floor and shelf space in my bedroom. We'd tell stories of plucky rebels going up against the Coalition, vampire hunters in South America, magical ninjas in Europe. Good times.

I haven't played  RIFTS  in a long time, largely because my tastes as far as system have changed quite a bit. I enjoyed Palladium's system immensely as a younger man, but as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate simpler, more focused systems. The setting, though . . .  RIFTS still calls to me, as a world in which to set gonzo, kitchen sink-style stories.

And now there's news that Palladium has licenced RIFTS out to Pinnacle Entertainment, makers of  Savage Worlds . Interesting. Very interesting indeed.

Warehouse 23 News: DON'T PANIC!

If you're going to anyway, bring a munchkin with you. Fireside Games' Munchkin Panic is full of monsters trying to crush your castle while you rush around in a vain attempt to keep them off.

Every Munchkin fan will squeal in glee at all the callbacks to the original game. The edge-of-your-seat gameplay could make a grown man cry, plus you can cheer when you finally fend off monsters in last-second moves of life or death. Appropriate for all ages, this game is always a good time. Available from Warehouse 23

Warehouse 23 News: Can't Wait For Munchkin Steampunk? Get Your Phil Foglio Fix Now!

Phil Foglio has had his hands in a lot of different pies. He has illustrated  Magic: The Gathering cards , written graphic novels, and satired his way to our hearts over the last thirty years. We have only a few physical copies left of his Buck Godot series, Girl Genius , and Myth Adventures! . Buck Godot: Zap Gun For Hire is an introduction to the character who's "always available, but never free" in the controlled anarchy of New Hong Kong. Girl Genius Book Four and Book Seven are prime examples why Foglio won the Hugo multiple times during his time with the series. Available from Warehouse 23.

April 25, 2015: Frickin' Lasers

Apparently all of the space debris orbiting the Earth has become a big enough problem that scientists have resorted to super-villain levels of creativity to remove it. Little do they know the Illuminati have been employing similar methods to combat other "space pests" for decades.

Warehouse 23 News: Murder Is Always Bad But Sometimes It Can Be Poetic Too!

while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore-" —Poe's "The Raven"

In Atlas Games' Murder of Crows , you're working to uncover a dreadful murder before your opponent. Each card is a letter in the word MURDER, which you spell out to build the story of the Poe-styled deed. April 20, 2015: Dyce N Dyne

Dyce N Dyne

Gaming cafes are springing up with more and more regularity around the world. It's a trend that's good for the industry and for the hobby, and also it's just fun to be able to go to a game store, play a game, and have a drink and a snack while you're there.

In the Phillippines, Dyce N Dyne is doing incredibly well. Their shop is full every day, and they're popularizing board games in the Phillippines in a really cool way. Click into that link and look at some of the photos. I'm sure you'll wish, like I do, that Dyce N Dyne were in your neighborhood.

April 18, 2015: Pizza, MIBs, And TableTop Day

Pizza

Some of you are certainly aware, but most of you are probably not: on International TableTop Day, we chose ten game stores around the country and sent them each five pizzas, on us, for their patrons to enjoy. How did we choose them? I'm glad you asked.

We querried our Men in Black. Andreas, our MIB Control, sent them a survey and got a huge number of responses from enthusiastic MIBs saying great things about their local stores. We used that information to put together a list. This likely won't be the last time we do something like this; if you're interested in being in the running for this kind of thing, the best way to ensure that you are is to make sure you have MIBs at your store. In addition to this kind of thing, MIBs can demo our games for your store and run all sorts of events.

To learn more about the MIB program, go here.

April 17, 2015: Crowdfunding Focus - Phoenix: Dawn Command

Crowdfunding Focus

At last, a roleplaying game where a Total Party Kill is one of the best things you can hope for. In Phoenix: Dawn Command , death isn't the end of your character's story but a transition to a new chapter.

Phoenix: Dawn Command uses an innovative card-based resolution system that gives players more control over their characters' actions . . . and sometimes makes failure the best option of all.

I was lucky enough to get in on a very early playtest of Phoenix , and even then I knew this game was special. I'm very pleased that designers Jenn Ellis and Keith Baker ( Gloom , Eberron , The Doom That Came to Atlantic City ) are well on their way to bringing Phoenix to market.

If you want to know more, check out their Kickstarter . . . and if you're as excited to see Phoenix: Dawn Command hit shelves as I am, please kick a few shekels their way.
