in which w00tstock 2.0 and 2.0.1 are announced

When we did w00tstock 1.x last year, we all hoped it would be successful enough to warrant taking the show on the road to some of our favorite cities.

Well, w00tstock 1.x was so much fun for us and the audiences who saw it, it didn't just warrant it, it WINGER'd it. Hell, it may even have Damn Yankees'd it or Skid Row'd it ... or Whitesnake'd it.

Whatever gloriously awful 80s hair band reference amuses you the most, the point is this: w00tstock 2.x is coming to Seattle and Portland in May:

I am delivering the inaugural keynote at PAX East

I just realized that I mentioned this on Twitter over a week ago, and it's been on a lot of the gaming sites, but I never actually carved out a little hunk of blog-o-state to mention...

I am giving the inaugural keynote address to PAX East in Boston on March 26th.

I've been working on my keynote, which involves throwing away about five words for every one I keep, every day for a couple weeks. I know I'm getting close to having a zero draft to start rewriting and perfecting, because my...

In which Wil discovers that he has Bioshock 2 Elbow.

My arms hurt so much today, I can hardly lift a cup of coffee, and I feel quite silly. This is how it happened...

I played ice hockey all through high school and into my early 20s. I loved being a goalie, and after going to lots of Kings games with Nolan in January, I decided that I was going to put on my pads and play again before the 2009 was over.

Well, due to a series of unexpected events, it didn't happen, so I pushed the goal (ha! ha!) into this year and started going to a gym three or...

in which the impact of twitter on my life is examined, and thanks is given to @ev and @biz

When my friend Sean first told me about Twitter, I just didn't get it. "I already have a blog," I said. "Why would I want to tell anyone where I am or what I'm doing ... and why would anyone care?"

Still, I signed up so I could have an account (I have to do a lot of this "defensive registering" on social networks, which is lame, but a fact of life) and that was that.

I don't know when it exactly happened, but I recall Warren Ellis saying that our friend Rich Stevens used Twitter not just to...

Wow, nice shirt . . . Moonpie.

Sheldon Cooper says Revenge is a dish best served cold in Klingon. On a T-shirt. Because that's awesome.

I love that this line has been immortalized in T-shirt form, not only because it's one of the funniest in the episode, but when we were rehearsing the scene it comes from, I grew a level in comedy acting:

During one of the run throughs, when Jim did his Klingon bit, I turned to Kevin and asked him, "Did he just say 'revenge is a dish best served cold' in Klingon?" like I was trying to figure out if that's actually what happened, like maybe I misunderstood him. Chuck Lorre told me that it...

Connect the dots! LA LA LA LA!

Anne and I got to go see The Pee Wee Herman show last night. It was phenomenal, and I realized about 20 minutes into the show that I was sitting on the edge of my seat, grinning and jumping around like a little kid ... because that's pretty much how I used to watch Pee Wee's Playhouse.

After the show, we were fortunate enough to listen to Paul Reubens do a Q&A with about 100 people. As much as I loved the show, I would go back every night just to listen to him talk about acting, writing...

The future is not a straight line. It is filled with many crossroads.

If you're of a certain age, do you remember the first time you saw AKIRA, or any of the Dirty Pair or original Macross cartoons? Coming from a steady diet of Hannah Barbera cartoons, it was like trading a transistor radio for a high-end stereo or seeing the grand canyon with my own eyes. The cinematic scope of the entire thing just blew me away, and my world was fundamentally changed.

The first time I saw AKIRA, I was 13 or 14, and it was on a fifth generation VHS bootleg, purchased for some...

MakerBot it so

Tea, Earl Gray. Hot. Version 0.1

Seriously. How cool is this? In my little geekmind, the lamp on the left is related to Luxo Junior, and is wishing it had the necessary hardware to enjoy a nice mug of tea.

See more Wheaton's Mug in the Wild (including my friend Mer looking beautiful, and the best binary birthday celebration you'll see all day), or get your own mug from the Memories of the Futureshop.

(roughly) three days in (roughly) 500 words

Because I am too busy for a proper post, I offer a very brief trip report:

I went to Seattle at the end of last week, where I not only got to spend three days with my friends from Penny Arcade, I finally got to take a tour of the Wizards of the Coast offices after years of being invited to check them out.

While the offices weren't quite as Wonka-like as my inner 12 year-old (and outer 37 year-old) hoped they would be, it was still pretty awesome to see lots of dragons, several suits of armor...
