The Fantastic Mister Fox is a cussin' great movie

Last night, Anne and I watched The Fantastic Mister Fox. I completely missed this movie when it was in theaters, and didn't know a single thing about it except that, according to our friends, I'd really like it.

About fifteen minutes into the movie I turned to her and said, "This is awesome. It's like Wes Anderson made a stop-motion movie."

...like I said, I didn't know a single thing about it, and for those of you who are like me, it was a Wes Anderson movie.

Anyway, I don't think it's...

time keeps on slippin'...

As some of you know, for the last six weeks, I've been working night and day on my PAX Keynote, which I deliver in 176 hours. It's been a long and sometimes agonizing road but after intensely bouncing drafts back and forth with Andrew this week, I have a draft that I can begin polishing.

This means that, today, I'll be reading it aloud in my office so I can time it out, find places where I can move words around, maybe add a phrase, and maybe take something out if it doesn't sound quite right (...

something something giant balls

This picture was taken after we'd been working all day on all the scenes that take place in the bowling alley. It turns out that shooting pretend bowling sequences is really complicated, and just a few minutes of final cut takes several hours to film.

What you can't see is how Jim and I are trying like crazy not to crack up, on account of something that was said just before the picture was taken.

...no, I'm not going to repeat it. I have to keep some things for myself, guys.

Obligatory...

the obligatory emerald city comicon post

Now that I'm home from Seattle, I'm right back to editing and rewriting and obsessively perfecting my PAX East keynote, but before I can give that the focus it requires, I need to talk a little bit about this year's Emerald City Comicon.

First, the good: The dungeon delve I wrote and ran was really great. We raised $500 for Child's Play, and the people who played in it (and I) had a really good time playing D&D. I wrote an original adventure that I think I may even be able to expand and...

Hi, I'm Wil Wheaton. I'm not a dick, but I play one on TV...

the 8-bit bang theory by r. stevens

The first appearance of Evil Wil Wheaton on The Big Bang Theory is airing again tonight, so I thought I'd gather up all the posts I wrote while working on it in one place:

leveling up while geeking out on the set of the big bang theory

I remember being in drama school in my early twenties, and having at least a decade more experience than everyone else in the room except our teacher. I remember paying close attention all the time, even when I wasn't working on a scene in front of the class...

From the Vault: Uses Joystick Controller

I'm sure it's an enormous surprise to learn that I've spent a lot of time recently thinking about games and gaming, so I've found myself looking through old blog posts for research, inspiration, and to confirm or deny that strange "I think I've written about this idea before..." tingle that's recently set up camp in my brain.

So here's something I found today, which may or may not find portions of itself rewritten for my PAX East Keynote, but should zap some of you Gen X gamers squarely in...

piles of magic armor are hoarded in the southern caves

If deadlines were dragons, I'd be in the lair with nothing left but my trusty sword and a relentless determination to slay the fucker and take his heart back to The Adventure Hook Tavern as a souvenir.

So in place of a proper post, here's what I did this weekend:

Delve_prep
I'm running a 4e dungeon delve at Emerald City Comicon this weekend, and instead of taking one out of the book, I'm creating my own. I haven't done this in at least 15 years, but after about 30 minutes with the graph paper, the...

Alright Brain, you don't like me, and I don't like you. But let's just do this, and I can get back to killing you with beer.

I've put myself pretty much on lockdown until I finish writing my PAX East keynote, because my brain really isn't making it easy to convert my concepts and ideas into a proper presentation that is both thoughtful and entertaining.

I've given myself next Wednesday as the ultimate deadline, because I need to hang a Sword of Damocles over my head if I'm going to get anything done. This provides great motivation and helps with the fucos, but with that helpful pressure I also get some stressful...

How one redditor found happiness. This is just wonderful.

I came across one of the most wonderful things I've ever read in my life on Reddit this morning, penned by Redditor alukima, who shares some insights on finding happiness:

I am not witty or interesting; I wont pretend to have anything profound to say. I am 26, female, divorced and spent most of my life feeling empty and hopeless. This may not help anyone, but these realizations helped me find my happiness. The points are in bold.

They didn't lie to you in elementary school, being different is...
