Accidental Guest
It wasn’t my intention to
Get caught up in your web.
I should have paid attention from the start.
I’m just an accidental guest but
Now I never want to leave
Because you wrapped your gentle weave
Around my heart.
Oh, won’t you look at me.
I can happily confess.
Now I always want to be your
Forever accidental guest.
I wasn’t looking for commitment,
Or then again maybe I was,
Or anything more than just one night.
But now your accidental guest is looking to forever
And every shred of doubt is out of sight.
Oh, won’t you look at me.
I can happily confess.
Now I always want to be your
Forever accidental guest.
Some people say I’m lucky
And I have to tell you I agree.
The angels must have smiled on the night we met.
The Fates brought us together
Accidentally,
And now we face the morning sun without regret.

Say It with Your Eyes
I can see you’re searching for
An easy way to say to me, “it’s over.”
But you don’t need to say a word,
And I don’t need to listen to your lies.
You say it with the way you walk,
The way you stand and the way you talk about me.
It only takes a single look
And you say it with your eyes.
Eyes that used to look at me
With so much love and honesty about them,
That penetrated to my heart and
Reached down to the deepest part of me.
But now they just give you away
And break down the last part of your disguise.
No matter what your lips may say, I see the truth.
You say it with your eyes.
Let me save you just a bit of
Trouble and embarrassment. It’s over.
When we think back over all the bad times
It’s really no surprise.
I should have seen it coming
Long before a single word was spoken.
The simple truth has been there in the honest way
You say it with your eyes.

When I Grow Up
At 6 years old I was running wild
Totin’ my six-guns cowboy style,
Bustin’ wild broncos, riding the range all day.
Goin’ after bad guys,
Huntin’ them down.
Me and my posse cleaning up this town.
When I grow up it’s gonna always be this way.
Nothing comes short of living out a dream,
Believing in the future and what it can bring,
Hoping for some wisdom and a little luck.
I can have it all when I grow up.
At 18 I was sure I knew it all,
Riding so high that I could never fall.
No one could tell me what I could or couldn’t do.
Looking back I see that I was just a kid.
I can’t believe half the stupid things I did,
But I still believed
And somehow made it through.
Nothing comes short of living out a dream,
Believing in the future and what it can bring,
Hoping for some wisdom and a little luck.
I can have it all when I grow up.
Now that I’m older and my life’s on track
I can see the kid who always had my back
Hiding in the shadows, trying hard to keep up,
Waiting and wondering just what happened to
The kind of trust and wanderlust that he once knew.
Did I lose it all when I grew up?
Nothing comes short of living out a dream,
Believing in the future and what it can bring,
Hoping for some wisdom and a little luck.
I can have it all when I grow up.

Boy’s Night Out
Spend the whole week waitin’
Just anticipatin’
One night a week that I can bust loose,
Where the rooster is a’crowin’
And testosterone is flowin’
And a guy can give the devil a goose.
It’s a ritual demand
That the girls don’t understand,
They can’t figure out what it’s all about.
It comes on like a fever
And there’s only one reliever
When it comes around to boy’s night out.
Ooohh, I got to get it goin’
Got to have a little fun.
Got a few seed left that still need sewin’
Put the devil on the run,
In a place that’s void of inhibitions
Where I won’t be afraid to shout.
Just keeps the beer flowin’,
Don’t care where I’m goin’,
Cruisin’ by on boy’s night out.
I’ve been workin’ for a dollar
Til it makes me wanna holler
And give the boss a piece of my mind,
But I try to hold it in until Friday night and then
I’m able to relax and unwind. We play a hand or two,
Maybe shoot a round of pool
And complain out loud til there’s no doubt.
Every challenge that we air,
Every problem, every dare,
We solve it all on boy’s night out.

Changes
I’ve been going through changes
Since the day that we met,
Some that I just don’t understand
And may live to regret.
You have captured my wandering eye
With a new point of view,
That these changes are all worthwhile
If they bring me to loving you.
You worked your magic.
You’ve got me under your spell.
You gave me the courage to
Walk through the fires of hell.
Trouble come find us.
We have no reason to hide.
I’m not a rebel
But I’ll face the world
As long as you walk by my side.
I can’t imagine
What changes may lie up ahead,
Coated in honey or
Covered in splashes of fiery red.
I’ll take it in stride
Knowing inside that it true.
These changes don’t matter
As long as they bring me to loving you.

All This Carrying On
For just one minute I turn my back, and
Walk out of the room.
I come back to a huge disaster
Sounding like a sonic boom.
The whole room’s lost all its sanity
And no one knows just where it’s gone.
Time to put an end to this feuding and fighting,
And all this carrying on.
3 AM is a time for quiet,
A time for reflection and sleep.
Especially for a working man
Who has obligations to keep.
Then some damn fool tries to raise a ruckus
And party til the morning sun.
It’s clear somebody’s got to shut him down,
And all this carrying on.
You and me sometimes disagree,
We let common sense slide.
We say things that we both don’t mean,
Leaving reason aside.
But it’s okay at the end of the day.
It doesn’t matter who won.
We work it out when we finally stop
All this carrying on.

A Million and One
I take the time to say, “I love you”,
Like so many times before.
It’s like saying, “See you later”
As I’m walking out the door.
Every time is like the first time
And you are the prize that I’ve won.
I know that I’ve said it a million times.
This makes a million and one.
Everyone tells me I’m lucky.
I can’t help but notice it’s true.
You brought my heart out of darkness.
My life began the day that I met you.
You took a chance, placed your wager,
But I was the gambler who won.
Chance may only be one in a million, but
You are a million and one.
Every day life just gets sweeter
As we walk in the sun hand in hand,
And I realize what’s there in your eyes
Knowing you’re more than a lover and friend.
Time won’t erase what we’re feeling,
Or take away one simple thing.
We’ll face each new dawn together.
Every day is the first day of spring.
Finding a new way, if need be, to be
Close to you when day is done.
At the end of a million beginnings
We’ll find a million and one.

Alone
There’s a tale told by fools of a fairytale world
Filled with dreams,
Where night never falls and honey flows wild
In the streams.
But when twilight comes crashing, and your waiting here
By the phone.
And it finally hits you, the meaning
Of being alone.
It’s a feeling that settles inside to tell you it’s true.
The one thing you thought was forever is over and through.
It’s a double-edged blade that slices and cuts to the bone.
You just never get use to the silence
Of being alone.
There is no way to describe all the emptiness
That you’re feeling inside.
You look in the mirror but there’s no reflection.
Your heart has gone looking for someplace to hide.
No one to free you.
No one to call but yourself.
You have a choice to rescue your soul
And climb down from your shelf.
Do you swim murky waters
Or let yourself sink like a stone?
It’s all up to you; you don’t have to face it
Alone.

Silk and Lace
Bracing myself for a fiery conflict,
Keeping my head down low.
Offering a prayer to the man above,
Trying not to let my feelings show.
Thinking about you a half a world away
And how I long to see your face,
Wanting just to feel your tender touch,
Missing your silk and lace.
People said that we were never meant to be,
Said that we would never last.
Your Momma and your Daddy both agreed
That we were moving way too fast.
But they could never know your affect on me,
How you cause my heart to race,
Or how I close my eyes every single night
Dreaming of your silk and lace.
And it doesn’t matter if the world goes by
And passes to eternity,
We don’t have to wonder where or why,
You and I were always meant to be.
There will come a time, and it won’t be long,
I’ll be coming home to you.
I’ll leave these boots and battles far behind,
And trade them for a heart that’s true.
I won’t have to dream about your loving smile
Or think about your warm embrace.
Huddled close together every single night,
Touching your silk and lace.

Walk Away
It’s deep in December,
The days have grown shorter,
Just like your patience with me.
Nights that blow cold
Both inside and out
In our snow-covered destiny.
I know that we would both be better off
If we would just call it a day.
But it’s really hard
To lay down your cards,
Get up and just walk away.
We’ve faced some fears in our stormy years,
Together we’ve managed to win.
But lately it seems we’re on different teams
Pulling the rope from both ends.
If this is the game that our destiny calls for,
Honey, I don’t want to play.
We’ve been through too much to limp by on a crutch,
It’s better to just walk away.
I wish there was some way to make it all better,
Take back all the things that I said, but
I don’t have a potion or miracle pill
To remove all those echoing words from your head.
Guess I could tell you that I was just blinded
By anger in visions of red.
So full of myself, caught in the moment,
I couldn’t control all the things that I said.
But that wouldn’t matter in our big decision.
Do I leave or do I stay?
I think we both know
It’s time to go.
It’s over, so just walk away.
