A Niggun is Born
I was doing a personal prayer session up in the Judean Hills. Something was bringing me down, and then I remembered Rebbe Nachman's teaching (Likutei Moharan I:175): "The main virtue of weeping is when it results from happiness and rejoicing." This made me so happy, that a brand new niggun (melody) popped in my head. Guy Tzvi Mintz and I were spending the afternoon together, so he grabbed his guitar and I grabbed my flutes and the new niggun (which G-d willing will be polished) was born. Here it is:
Have a wonderful Shabbat Behaalotcha, and we'll see you soon in the USA. Check out the right-hand toolbar on this site for our itinerary. G-d bless!

Johnny Cash: In the Land of Israel
Like every other guy in Cow College (The College of Agriculture at the University of Maryland), I thrived on country music. Johnny Cash was one of my all-time favorites. Good ol' Johnny loved the Land of Israel, visited it, and even wrote a song about it. We miss you, Johnny.

From the top of Sinai,
to the Sea of Galilee,
Every hill and plain is home,
Every place is dear to me.
There the breezes tell the stories,
Oh, what stories they do tell,
Of the mighty things that happened,
In the Land of Israel.
Here, where Moses and the prophets,
Spoke of One who would be king,
Of a Heavenly Messiah,
And the blessings He would bring.
Oh, to hear the call again,
"All is peaceful, all is well",
Upon every rock and mountain,
In the land of Israel.

The secret of Torah vibrance lies in the unbroken chain of teacher to pupil from Mount Sinai 3,323 years ago to this very day. Read all about it in Passing the Torch, featured this week on Breslev Israel web magazine.
