How Does an Atheist Cope with Emotional Personal Issues?
Michael Shermer, well-known atheist and publisher of Skeptic magazine, wrote a guest column on Wednesday in the national newspaper USA Today on the so-called "empty nest syndrome."USA Today—with an anti-Christian, anti-creationist column that appeared Monday—is committed to running commentaries to bolster the small minority atheist group in the USA. Well, maybe USA Today Seems will print my rebuttal—a letter to the editor we submitted Tuesday—or feature a commentary by a Bible-believing Christian.
In this column by Shermer on Wednesday, one can read how an atheist's bankrupt belief system attempts to explain the emotional empty nest syndrome by a purely random evolutionary belief—one that is reduced to chemical interactions. Shermer states the following:
It has been a little more than a month since my daughter Devin moved into her dorm at Occidental College . . . and life as I know it has come to an end. Or that's what it feels like . . .
The nest's empty loneliness is almost unbearable. Why does it hurt so bad? Science has an answer: We are social mammals who experience deep attachment to our fellow friends and family, an evolutionary throwback to our Paleolithic hunter-gatherer days of living in small bands. Bonding unified the group, aiding survival in harsh climes and against unforgiving enemies. Attachment between parent and offspring assured that there is no one better equipped to look after the future survival of your genes than yourself. We are a pair-bonded species, practicing monogamy (or at least serial monogamy) long enough to get our children out of childhood. . . .
We parents can't help feeling this way, and neuroscience explains why. Addictive chemicals such as dopamine and oxytocin surge through the brain and body during positive social interactions (especially touch). This causes us to feel closer to one another. Between parents and offspring, it cements a bond so solid that it is broken only under the most unusual (and usually pathological) circumstances. Mothers of serial killers have been known to weep in court and plead for leniency, even in the presence of the mothers of the murdered victims.
The Bible refers to such people when we read that "the fool has said in his heart there is no God" (Psalm 14:1), and that men "suppress the truth in unrighteousness" (Romans 1:18).
You can read more of this atheistic, evolutionist nonsense on USA Today's website.
Lutheran Conference
It was thrilling to receive such overwhelming response from the Lutheran pastors' conference I spoke at in Michigan on Tuesday. I spoke to a few hundred pastors and their wives from the Missouri Synod Michigan district. It is such an honor and privilege to speak to such a group, for AiG is really influencing all the congregations of all the churches represented. Here are some photographs from the event:

A Precious Postcard
Popular AiG speaker, Dr. Tommy Mitchell, sent me this note yesterday:
Today I received a postcard from a child in Pennsylvania. It is one of the most precious things I have ever received. I thought I would share it with you all. It reads, "Me, my sisters, and my mom loved the services. Me and my mom came to every one. I like how could a loving God service because my dad died over the summer June 20th and I've been mad at God. My hampster died 2 weeks ago and I've been mad at God but we've been bought with a price and are not our own." This note was signed by Tyler. (As I transcribed the note, I added all the punctuation, which was missing, but otherwise, the wording and spelling is Tyler's.) All I can say is, "Thanks, Tyler. You truly blessed the heart of this tired old doctor today.
You can find out more about Dr. Tommy Mitchell (and how to request him to be a speaker in your church/area) on his speaker's page.

Excited About All the Knowledge
We receive an increasing number of testimonies from young people who have been influenced by the AiG ministry. Here is one example from this past week:
Earlier this summer I went to the [homeschool] convention and heard Mr. Ham's talk about dinosaurs. After that, I went to every single session he gave, including the one titled "Raising Godly Children in an Ungodly World" (which is kind of weird, since I'm only in seventh grade). As I listened to those talks . . . I suddenly found myself wishing I had brought a pencil and notebook along so I could take notes.
When we got home, I started looking through the Answers magazines that my Dad got in the mail and found that they were very interesting, and I started reading the Kids Answers [special children's insert inside the magazine] to my six-year-old brother, who LOVES them! I would be very interested to see an article in the Answers magazine about caves, and all the cool formations that the stones make. It would be really cool to see how that would connect with the Flood, and all the minerals that would be seeping through the ground and forming the stalagmites and stalactites and stuff. (That's what I'm guessing formed them, but it'd probably be better to learn from a more educated resource than myself.) I would also be interested in an article about Stonehenge [in England], and one about the Ark of the Covenant.
At the convention, my Dad bought the Answers Academy DVDs, and now our church is doing the series, which has been VERY cool. The theme music gets stuck in your head, though . . . I am very excited about all the knowledge that I have gained through AiG, and can't wait to learn more!
Devotion
(Deuteronomy 30:6) And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all thy soul, that you may live.
The Lord Jesus Christ knows that we have a cancerous growth in our spiritual heart of a love for sin and half heartedness to God; as we yield to Him He cuts it out.

"Christmas Town" Benefit Dinner
How many times have you heard people complain about the commercialization of Christmas? But can we ever make too much of Christ and the true message of Christmas?
At the Creation Museum in December, this will be our third year of offering a free live nativity, dramas, and a beautiful display of lights in our botanical gardens for what we call "Christmas Town: A Live Nativity at the Creation Museum." But all of this comes with a cost to the ministry in order to reach out to the several thousand people who will come.
To help raise funds for this wonderful endeavor that was attended by over 17,000 people last year, the museum is hosting a dinner on Friday, December 3. The evening will include appetizers, rehearsal performances for Christmas Town, dinner with live music in the Palm Plaza downstairs, and then dessert and coffee in the Main Hall. Dr. Tommy Mitchell will be the moderator and host for the evening.
If you would like to be part of this ministry outreach to the community, the cost of the dinner is $100 per person. It is not only an opportunity to support this Christmas message to our tri-state region that surrounds the Cincinnati metropolitan area, but this would also make for a great night out with your spouse or friend—a chance to get a preview of the drama by the wisemen, an archaeologist at the nativity scene, and a soon-to-be announced third drama. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that the dinner will benefit our annual Christmas outreach to our region.
This is a limited-capacity offering, so if you are interested, call 888-582-4253 ext. 657 or email Christmastowndinner[at]creationmuseum[dot]org.

Answers for Women—A Unique Webinar Tuesday
Join "Answers for Women" speaker and author Dr. Georgia Purdom on Tuesday for a unique webinar and live chat on the topic of Eve. As Dr. Purdom tells me, Eve was the original "bad girl" of the Bible. Her legacy—and Adam's ("through one man, sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men" Romans 5:12)—was one of sin and despair. The Curse that God pronounced affects our parenting and marriages even today.
Georgia wrote to me that: "Eve, though, has another legacy—one of salvation and hope. Through her seed came Jesus Christ the Redeemer of man. Understanding Eve and how God worked in and through her gives us hope for today. You'll discover that where sorrow and despair abound, God's love and mercy abound still more, and lead us to a life marked by hope in the Creator whose Word is true and who keeps His promises."
The webinar will be about half an hour long, followed by one hour of live chat with Dr. Purdom.
Please join us at one of the following times:
October 12 at 10:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (part one)
October 19 at 10:00 a.m. or 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time (part two)

Beautiful Vermont
While we were in Schroon Lake at the World of Life Conference center in New York this past weekend, we took the special recreation time set aside for Saturday afternoon to travel over Lake Champlain to Vermont. Here are a few photographs, including one of Mally and me—and Buddy and Kay Davis of our staff:
Testimonies
Buddy and I have received many testimonies from people at the Word of Life conference. Here are just three:
A father who told me their young child passed away earlier this year. His son loved Answers in Genesis—in fact, the father took his child to the Creation Museum this past December. He said the child's birthday would have been this past Saturday—so he came to the AiG conference at Word of Life as a special memory of his son.
A pastor told me he wanted to totally change how he and his church staff approached teaching in their church—they hadn't taught adults/children how to defend their faith. He said he wanted to deal with the issue of so many young people leaving the church when they become adults. He is going to get our Already Gone book and get his entire staff to read it—then discuss how to deal with this exodus of the youth.
One man told me it was because of AiG videos that he came back to the Lord. Now he is on fire for the Lord and wants to learn as much as he can in order to be equipped to defend the faith and proclaim the gospel.

AiG in Bulgaria
Right now, Dr. Terry Mortenson (AiG speaker, writer, and researcher) is in Bulgaria. As well as speaking, Terry and his host are spending hours editing his Powerpoint slides that were prepared for this trip, to ensure an exact translation.
Here are just a few highlights to date from Terry's Bulgarian tour from an email he sent me:
We arrived at the university to speak for the Campus Crusade group in Varna. (I had to change and iron clothes in the classroom while the Bulgarians set up the projector and screen.) The students began to trickle in late (normal in this culture). We started a little late by first showing three five-minute videos about Darwin's finches, bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and mutations in fruit flies that have been translated from an American intelligent design video. Then I spoke for about 90 minutes (with translation). This lecture was at the medical college. Those present were attentive and asked good questions after the lecture. Some were non-Christians, and many were very young Christians.
We then traveled a couple of hours to Burgas, where I spoke in one of the largest churches in Bulgaria. They have about 400 people on a Sunday morning. A Bulgarian girl who spoke English and is studying at a university in Holland thanked me and said she would definitely visit our website. Another girl told me that she had heard me when I spoke in Bulgaria in 2003. A elderly British man, who is married to a Bulgarian and serves in the church, thanked me and commended the translator for his excellent translation of my lecture. This lecture was also recorded on video to be shown on the church's website. The church provided us with a first-class accommodation in a very nice apartment in the church, and the pastor along with his wife and college-age daughter, who all spoke English, took Darin and me for dinner in a nice Bulgarian restaurant with pleasant live music. I particularly had good conversation with the wife and daughter, answering some of their questions about creation and Genesis. This pastor and his family really see the foundational importance of Genesis and how great the challenge of evolution is in Bulgaria.
The pastor said to the congregation that the church was definitely going to support the ministry that brought me over to Bulgaria financially, so that more books and DVDs could be translated into Bulgarian. There is a tremendous need for these resources. The next book to be published is The New Answers Book 1, which should be out in a few months and will be the first major AiG book for adults and older students.
Tomorrow, we travel to another city (Plovdiv), and I will speak at a church. Afterwards, we drive on to Sophia, the capital, where I speak Sunday morning and Sunday evening in two different churches. I still need to edit another talk tomorrow morning, so please pray that that will be accomplished in the time we have and as I am riding in the car.
Please pray for Terry as he continues this vital ministry to teach the truth concerning creation and God's Word in Bulgaria.

Thousands Will Learn Who the Real God Is
This year, 3,000 churches used AiG's Vacation Bible School (VBS) programs, ministering to many thousands of children. The VBS program for 2011, called Gold Rush, is wonderful and so needed in this day and age.
Think about it: our children must decide among many "gods" every day. In media, in school, and in books, they're taught that all roads lead to heaven. They're told to "believe what you want and it will be true for you." These dangerous lies are drawing our kids away from the truth—that Jesus, the Rock of Ages, is the way, the truth, and the life! Salvation is found in Jesus alone!
With Gold Rush, thousands of kids (and adults) are going to learn the answer to the most important question Jesus asks: "Who do you say that I am?" (Matthew 16:13). Our curriculum developers have told me that children will be saturated with the truth as they discover the biblical responses to questions such as the following:
Is Jesus the only way to heaven? This expands on Jesus's claim, "I am the way, the truth, and the life" (John 14:6). Older children will be taught to refute the idea that all roads lead to heaven, and various other religious are discussed briefly in relation to Jesus's exclusive claim.
Who did Jesus say He is? This teaches kids some of Jesus's amazing claims and that He is superior to all others (all other people, religious leaders, etc.)—He never sinned, He is God, He forgives sins, and He is the Creator.
What was unique about Jesus's birth, life, death, and resurrection? These lessons focus on teaching children the prophecies Jesus fulfilled with His birth, life, and death. Showcase that He is the Messiah promised hundreds of years before He came. Also sample some of His amazing teachings in contrast to what the world teaches (love your enemies, serve God and not money, children are precious, and look out for others and not yourself). And discuss His radical power that demonstrated He is God: He has power over sickness/disease, power over nature, power to forgive sins, and power over death.
What is salvation, and how can I be saved? As with all the VBS gospel presentations, we begin with the Genesis account of Adam's fall into sin, explain what sin is (disobedience to God's commands), that we're all sinners, and all need salvation from sin's punishment—eternal separation from God in Hell. And then share God's provisions of salvation through Jesus. This lesson also teaches kids to answer such questions as the following: Did Jesus really die on the Cross, or did He just faint? Did the disciples steal Jesus's body from the tomb? Did anyone see Jesus after He rose from the dead? He is the only one who has ever died and now lives!
How can I share the good news of Jesus's life-changing power? This lesson focuses on providing examples of those whose lives have been radically changed by Jesus through the power of the Holy Spirit—specific examples include the disciples (former cowards, they become bold preachers of the gospel to the point that they're willing to sacrifice their lives for Christ), George Mueller, and Gladys Aylward. Kids are challenged to share the life-changing power of Jesus with others.
Each day, children will see more of the truth about who Jesus is—our Creator and Redeemer. They'll hear the gospel and will be challenged to follow Jesus.
Go to our special website to find out more about AiG's VBS program Gold Rush.

Bill Maher and Bill O'Reilly Mock the Account of the Ark
Recently on Fox News TV's The O'Reilly Factor, host, Bill O'Reilly interviewed God-hating comedian/commentator Bill Maher, and they talked about the Bible. At the beginning of the segment, Bill Maher brought up the account of Noah's Ark. As you watch the interview, you will see, sadly, that both of these men basically mocked the account of the Ark. As the interview continued, Bill O'Reilly stated the following:
I respect the Bible, and I take it as an allegorical book—But I'm a Christian, so the New Testament is what I believe in.
Well Bill, if you really do believe the New Testament, what do you do with the numerous sections where the writers quote directly from the Old Testament, and particularly the book of Genesis, as literal history? The Apostle Peter in first and second Peter refers to Noah and the global Flood. In Matthew 19, Jesus quotes from Genesis 1 and 2 to build the doctrine of marriage—one man for one woman. In Romans 5 and 1 Corinthians 15, Paul quotes from Genesis 1–3 concerning the gospel (Adam, sin, death, and so on). One could go on and on regarding such references.
So Bill, if you claim you do believe the New Testament but the rest of the Bible is allegorical, then you have a major problem—and it shows you really don't understand the New Testament or know what it does teach.
Bill Maher brings up the point a number of times that if you can't trust one part of the Bible, how can any of it be trusted? Which is actually an important point—and a point Bill O'Reilly needs to understand but ignored as Maher put it to him more than once in this interview. And this is where Bill Maher and I would actually agree. But of course, Bill Maher claims there are mistakes/problems in the Bible, so you can't trust any of it—which is where we totally disagree, of course.
As they talk about the origins issue in the interview, Bill Maher also brings up his mantra that comes through the vile, blasphemous Religulous movie when he says, "I don't know." Yet Bill Maher, who says he doesn't know, does "know'" that Christians are wrong! He is so inconsistent—just as he was when in interviewed me in my office a few years ago. This was the time when he illegally entered my office—his video crew lied about its intentions, gave a false name, etc. Read the previous blog post about this Bill Maher break-in to my office.
You can view the Bill O'Reilly/Bill Maher interview on the Fox News website.
After you have watched this video, ask yourself: who is more dangerous from a Christian perspective? My answer would be Bill O'Reilly. This is because he claims to be a Christian but tells people the Bible is allegorical, and you only have to believe the New Testament. Such a belief undermines biblical authority and leads people astray. Bill Maher is an outright God-hater who mocks God's Word whenever he can, so it is understandable he doesn't believe the Bible at all. Despite Maher's various inconsistencies, he is consistent in rejecting all of the Bible. O'Reilly on the other hand is totally inconsistent in what he claims about the Bible.
It is interesting to note that when I appeared on various media outlets when the Creation Museum was opened in 2007 (ABC, MSNBC, Fox, CNN, and so on), the one interview that stood out to me as perhaps the worst was when I was interviewed on Bill O'Reilly's program. It was not Bill O'Reilly who interviewed me but one of his fill-ins, and the interviewer misunderstood my answer, cut me off, was rude, and basically intolerant. It definitely ranks as the worst interview regarding the opening of the Creation Museum in how I was treated. I know people complained to Bill O'Reilly as many of them sent me copies of their complaint.

Charlie and Trike Now Reside in the Creation Museum
Two new characters have taken up residence in the Creation Museum: Charlie (who is a monkey with a tail in the shape of a question mark) and Trike (a triceratops). I've been told that Charlie and Trike have lots of adventures planned. Their first major adventure was to visit the Grand Canyon.
There is now a new illustrated and fun book (with lots of extra items like a map and flaps and pockets with further information etc.) entitled Charlie and Trike in the Grand Canyon Adventure. Children will increasingly encounter Charlie and Trike at various places in the Creation Museum.
Here are some photographs taken recently of the new Charlie and Trike book:

Here are some photos of the children of the Biller family (from North Carolina) having fun at the Creation Museum and our petting zoo this week (Renee, Audrey, Luke and, Sean Biller):
Devotion
(Isaiah 50:5–8) The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting. For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed. He is near that justifies me; who will contend with me.
The Lord Jesus Christ did not turn away from the Father's commandment to give Himself as the Lamb of God to take our sins on Him, suffer, and die.

Unique Way to Use VBS
Of course, the primary time to use a Vacation Bible School (VBS) curriculum is the summer. But creative-thinking churches are adapting it for uses beyond the summer.
For a special children's church services at Calvary Baptist Church in northern Kentucky, our VBS program The Egypt File is being used. What's been distinctive about our VBS programs—and why it has exploded in popularity (this is only our third year)—is that the curriculum does not just present the Bible as a book of stories with some minor biblical application. We show young people that God's Word connects to every area of life, and it is as relevant today as it was 2,000 years ago. Most importantly, after showing that the Bible is a true history Book of the world, we also present the most-important teaching of all: the Bible's message of salvation is true!
With The Egypt File VBS, children will learn where we came from; who we are; how we can know we'll spend eternity with our Creator; and how we should live.
Think about using an AiG VBS program for next summer or for other special children's programs in your church (maybe for a Wednesday evening program for the youth). Our next program will be called Gold Rush (see http://answersvbs.com/2011/). This year's VBS, The Egypt File, can also be used in 2011 if you wish (see http://answersvbs.com/2010/).
Because of the research published in our book Already Gone (which showed the vital need to teach apologetics to children of all ages through youth and adult), many churches are now using various AiG curricula as a supplement to their programs—until the entire AiG Bible curriculum is available (2012). Our VBS programs can be used this way.
All About Creating a Legacy
My brother Stephen and I wrote a book called Raising Godly Children in an unGodly World. Many people have told us how this book has challenged them in regard to how they are training their children. A recent review of this book began with the following:
The Ham family hails from Australia, and Ken and Steve share much of their family's heritage of the Christian faith that has been passed along to them through their father. The book is a wonderful tribute to the Godly example he had set for his family. Ken is the founder of the organization Answers in Genesis, who is the creator of the Creation Museum in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I truly loved the depth of their conviction that if you don't believe everything that happened in Genesis as it is stated, the rest of the bible makes no sense. Standing on the truth of Genesis is the foundation of everything else that happens through the book of Revelation! Ken states this in the first several pages of the book, "The sufficiency and authority of Scripture, properly interpreted and understood, gives us the basis for godly parenting. As you take God's Word and apply its eternal principles to the everyday issues you face with your family, you will begin to create a godly heritage-a legacy that will impact the generations to come in ways you never dreamed possible.
This book is all about creating a Godly legacy that you can pass along from generation to generation. The chapters are built through three parts, The Foundation of a Legacy, The Components of a Legacy, and Building a Legacy.
You can read the rest of this review at this link.
You can obtain copies of the book from the AiG online store.
Devotion

Former President of SBC Visits
Over the years, AiG has developed excellent relationships with a number of prominent leaders within the denomination called the Southern Baptist Convention. For example, I have been privileged to be in the pulpits of (and at the invitation of) Dr. Adrian Rogers (the late pastor of the Bellevue Baptist Church near Memphis), Dr. Charles Stanley (First Baptist Atlanta), and at First Baptist Church of Woodstock in Georgia (Pastor Johnny Hunt, outgoing president of the SBC, has hosted me).
While I was away speaking at a pastors' conference in central New York last week, Bailey Smith, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1982 and 1983, came to tour the Creation Museum. I met him several weeks ago in Oklahoma, as we were speaking together at a conference in Yukon, near Oklahoma City. We chatted a bit there and had a meal together, and I invited him to tour our Creation Museum when he might ever be in our area. Brother Smith was speaking at nearby Florence Baptist Church of northern Kentucky, and he made the drive over with one of the church's pastors, Robert Wooten, to tour the museum on Tuesday. (Both men are in the photo below.) After touring, Rev. Smith shared with one of our staff members that the Creation Museum was the "finest" Christian attraction he had ever visited. When he spoke later that evening at Florence Baptist Church, he gave the museum his wholehearted endorsement for a few minutes.
Back in the 1980s, Brother Smith was quite bold in preaching from John 14:6, where Christ declares that the only way of salvation was through Him: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." The secular media had a field day with the use of that verse, and many accused him of being intolerant. You might recall that news.
I find it encouraging that although some denominations are sliding away from taking a firm stand on biblical inerrancy, starting with Genesis, we are seeing the SBC (in the past 30 years) moving in the right direction.
Creation Evangelism in a Public School
Despite the fact that many intolerant secularists have tried to censor the ability of students in public schools from even hearing anything other than the religion of atheistic evolution, there are many Christian teachers that are ensuring students are learning about the truth of creation. Here is a testimony received recently:
I was at your museum on Friday and I bought your Answers for Kids curriculum. I took it home and on Monday I was teaching it in a public school here . . . at an after school Bible club. Teachers were amazed by the material and students were excited about finding the truth. Thank you for helping change this paradigm in our thinking so that I could walk into a public school and proclaim boldly the truth of the gospel!
Even though the secularists have been able to legislate in order to protect an imposition of their anti-God religion on the children of America, there are ways to reach them with the truth.
Devotion
Because the Lord thy God loved you
(Deuteronomy 23:5) Nevertheless the LORD your God would not hearken unto Balaam; but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing unto you, because the LORD your God loved you.
The natural man thinks that God would like to curse man, but the Bible transforms minds to both believe and thank the Lord Jesus Christ for His love to man.
