Rescuing Our Kids
As many of you are aware, the theme we have chosen for the AiG ministry over the next two years is “Standing Our Ground, Rescuing Our Kids.” This theme is based on Galatians 1:4 (about rescuing people from this evil age).
As I speak across America, I meet thousands of children who come to the AiG conferences, including our special children’s programs. It is such a thrill to meet children who have been taught using AiG resources. Over the years many of them have given me letters, cards, and artwork.
Recently, some children gave me artwork and notes they had written to me. I thought you would all be encouraged to see and read these:
At AiG, we are doing our best to reach more kids than ever to help raise up a generation that will stand on the authority of God’s Word, defend the Christian faith, and proclaim the gospel.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Visit the Virtual Creation Zoo!
Today I want to tell you about a very special project a proud father and AiG supporter told me about. Three boys, the children of this supporter, in Australia have started an online Virtual Creation Zoo (www.virtualcreationzoo.com or www.australia-zoo.com)—meant to declare the glory of God and to teach the history presented in Genesis.
They make their belief in God and His Word very clear on their “About Us” page:
Welcome to the real world, not the figment of one’s imagination but the real, observable world of unmistakable and irrefutable design. Dare to question the so-called “proven fact of evolution”. Don’t believe it because everyone else does, see for yourself. If you still believe in evolution after carefully considering the content of this (and related) sites, it will simply prove that evidence for God and His design is not the issue but hardness of heart and a dishonest consideration of the truth surrounding you.
Wow! These three children have pinpointed the primary issue surrounding disbelief in God’s Word: man’s stubbornly rebellious heart and willful ignorance of the truth.
Now, their “zoo” continues to be developed, but visitors can find out information on a variety of mammals, birds, reptiles, and marine life—even dinosaurs! And all of the information is from a creationist perspective, drawing on resources from Answers in Genesis, the Institute for Creation Research, and other creation organizations.
I encourage you to visit the Virtual Creation Zoo to see the hard work of children whose hearts and minds have been captured for the Lord. Imagine if we raised up an entire generation of kids who so boldly proclaimed the truth of the Bible?
Deaths in Boston
I made a few comments on my Facebook page yesterday about the horrible Boston bombings. At last report, more than 100 people were injured near the finish line for the famed Boston Marathon, and three people have been killed (including a child). Because one of my family members ran in this marathon last year, this tragedy hits home for our family.
As the injured are going through suffering and healing and as the families of those who died in the blast grieve their loss, it once again raises the age-old question of how a God of love could allow such things to happen. I encourage you to download a free copy of my booklet Why Is There Death and Suffering? or read my entire book How Could a Loving God? which is available free to read.
Also, note that the banner for the AiG homepage of our website deals with this same question. Look for the banner that says, “Good God, Bad World—How Can That Be?” A video can be viewed by clicking on the banner.

Human Intelligence Is Declining!
Yes, you read that title correctly—human intelligence has been on the decline (since the Fall of Genesis 3), and now a leading geneticist agrees. Dr. Gerald Crabtree recently stated in an article that he believes genetic mutations are adversely affecting human intelligence.
In his article in the journal Trends in Genetics, Crabtree claimed, “I would wager that if an average citizen from Athens of 1000 BC were to appear suddenly among us, he or she would be among the brightest and most intellectually alive of our colleagues and companions, with a good memory, a broad range of ideas, and a clear-sighted view of important issues. Furthermore, I would guess that he or she would be among the most emotionally stable of our friends and colleagues.”
Well, I’ve made a similar sort of point for many years. That is, many Christians (mostly unwittingly) have adopted an evolutionary view of man’s abilities and intelligence over the millennia and tend to think we are more advanced today than our ancestors in the past—but actually, the opposite is true!
We live in such a technologically advanced world, with smart phones, jet planes, and spacecraft, that we often want to think we are so much more intelligent today than our ancestors who lived hundreds or thousands of years ago. In fact, most of us tend to think that people of past societies were somewhat “primitive.”
But if people of past societies were so primitive, then we certainly would not expect that Noah was able to build an Ark, would we? Actually, Noah was a brilliant man, as were many of his relatives. (Here is a similar article on our Ark Encounter website.)
For instance, though Genesis 4 doesn’t give us many details, it does tells us that these people—only a few generations removed from Adam—had a high degree of sophistication in a certain technology:
And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructor of every artificer in brass and iron. (Genesis 4:21–22)
Noah had to be an incredibly smart man to build the Ark and incorporate the technology needed to make living on it sustainable, even though we don’t know for sure what kinds of technology Noah and his family may have had. Humans have been highly intelligent from the beginning and could quickly gain knowledge to create sophisticated technology. The Bible, the true history of the universe, has revealed that truth to us in Genesis. Can you imagine what Adam and Eve’s abilities must have been like in a perfect world?
Since we know that with the Fall came sin and death, we can expect that the universe is wearing down over time. Sin has corrupted God’s “very good” creation (Romans 8:20–22). So we can expect to see a gradual decline in human intelligence from Adam and Eve until now. But even today, humans accumulate information and are amazingly inventive. We need to understand that the technology we have today does not mean people are more intelligent than the past—but that there has been a considerable accumulation of knowledge, which has led to the development of technology.
As we think on the great achievements of man in the past, such as the Egyptian pyramids, I also want to encourage you to remember the vital message of the Cross. As we see nations remain on the path of wicked rebellion against the One who created all things and who owns us, we should be reminded that God has provided a way of salvation from our sin and a rescue from eternal separation from God. And we can certainly use the technology of our day to spread the gospel. Sadly many people see our advancements in technology as a part of man’s evolution—instead of the incredible intellectual capacity (even if somewhat marred by sin) we have endowed with by our Creator.

Live Chat with Answers Magazine Editor
If you’ve ever wanted to talk with an author about his article in Answers, our award-winning magazine, you’ll have the opportunity this week. (Answers won eight awards last year from the Evangelical Press Association, including the top award for excellence for the second year in a row).
Answers is the world’s leading apologetics and Christian worldview magazine (with an emphasis on creation apologetics and general biblical apologetics). Each issue contains a collector chart or poster and also includes a lift out mini-magazine for kids. If you don’t subscribe, I urge you to do so on our online store.
This Tuesday, Mike Matthews, the magazine’s editor in chief, will be hosting a live chat session on the magazine’s Facebook page. Mike will be taking questions about the lead article from the April–June issue of Answers, which he cowrote with Answers in Genesis’ director of research, Dr. Andrew Snelling—When Was the Ice Age in Biblical History?
Here are some snippets from the article about the Ice Age:
The Bible doesn’t say, “And then there was an Ice Age.” Yet it does give us the big picture of human history—as well as some critical details—which help us narrow down when the ice built up and then melted away. . . .
So it is reasonable to conclude that the start of the Ice Age in the Northern Hemisphere (the Pleistocene) roughly coincides with the Babel judgment, around a century or so after the Flood (perhaps 2250 BC). . . .
The Bible also sheds light on the Ice Age’s end, though in an indirect way. If we can determine the dates of the first cities built after Babel, including Ur, and then show their relationship with dates for the last human and animal remains from the Ice Age, we can establish approximately when the Ice Age ended.”
In the course of his extensive research for this article, Mike found some significant correlations between archaeological discoveries and the biblical record of Noah’s Flood, the dispersion from Babel, and the birth of Abraham. If you visit the Answers magazine Facebook page this Tuesday between 2 and 3 PM Eastern Time in the USA, you can post any questions you have about this interesting period in history, and Mike will answer them on our wall. This is also a great opportunity for homeschool students to interact with active writers and researchers in the creation movement.
This promises to be a great session. I hope you’ll take the opportunity.
UK’s Dr. Andy McIntosh speaks in NY and Pennsylvania
My good friend Professor Andy C. McIntosh (U. of Leeds) has had a distinguished career in researching and lecturing on thermodynamics and combustion theory for over 30 years, and he is a good friend of our sister ministry, Answers in Genesis UK.
Andy became a Christian in 1969. At the University in Wales, he realized that the issue of biblical authority was intricately linked with the issue of creation. Today, he can often be found speaking on the topic of creation in the UK, but this week, he will be on our side of “the pond” giving a number of creation lectures and engaging in some debates.

eHarmony Compromises on Same Sex “Marriage”
Many of you have probably heard of the online dating site eHarmony. The cofounder, Neil Clark Warren, describes himself as a “passionate follower of Jesus,” and eHarmony initially only provided its services to heterosexual people. After a legal battle, eHarmony included homosexuals, first in a separate site and later in its main site.
In a recent interview, Warren said that his company has been damaged by the same-sex marriage debate. What does Warren mean by this? Well, according to the Christian Post, he said “that he hopes America can ‘be more harmonious’ on the issue.”
Now, Warren’s view on same-sex marriage is just not biblical. He states, “I think this issue of same-sex marriage within the next five to 15 years will be no issue anymore. We’ve made too much of it. I’m tired of it. It has really damaged our company.” Anyone who knows their Bible and what God’s Word teaches about marriage (e.g., Matthew 19) understands that what Warren is saying here isn’t biblical—we can never “make too much” of standing up for the truth of God’s Word and standing against sinful behavior. The same-sex marriage debate has hurt the business of a professing Christian, but God tells us in His Word that we will face persecution for Christ’s sake (Matthew 10:22; 2 Timothy 3:12). And you know, standing up for the Bible’s definition of marriage and its restrictions on sexuality will bring just such persecution from the world.
Even though Scripture offers a clear answer in regard to homosexual behavior, Warren stated, “I have said that eHarmony really ought to put up $10 million and ask other companies to put up money and do a really first class job of figuring out homosexuality. . . . At the very best, it’s been a painful way for a lot of people to have to live. But at this point, at this age, I want America to start drawing together. I want it to be more harmonious.” But you see, it doesn’t take millions of dollars to “figure out homosexuality”—just a few dollars to purchase a Bible where God has made it clear from the beginning of human history that marriage is between a man and a woman. (For more about the Bible’s teaching on homosexual behavior, see Pro-Gay Theology: Does the Bible Approve of Homosexuality?)
Is this what we should expect from a “passionate follower of Jesus”? It seems like Warren is requesting that we overlook the widespread acceptance of sinful behavior and “draw together.” But I have a better idea: the church needs to return to biblical authority in every area of life, including how Christians should view same-sex marriage and homosexual behavior. It doesn’t matter if the culture deems such things acceptable—believers are obligated to preach the full gospel and call for repentance from sin.
Our theme for 2013–14 is “Standing our Ground, Rescuing our Kids.” We need to rescue coming generations from this evil world (Galatians 1:4).

AiG Reaches to the Stars!
The lead article on our website today, “Can We See the Surfaces of Stars?” was written by Dr. Danny Faulkner, our astronomer on staff. In today’s main web article, Dr. Faulkner responds to a question we received about whether astronomers have actually seen the surface of a star.
Dr. Faulkner joined the Answers in Genesis staff at the beginning of this year. Dr. Faulkner has a PhD in astronomy and was on the faculty of the University of South Carolina Lancaster for over 25 years. He retired as a full professor and now holds the title of distinguished professor emeritus. Dr. Faulkner oversees the programs in our state-of-the-art planetarium and observatory. You can find out more about him on his speaker page.
Dr. Faulkner has a passion for astronomy and God’s Word. He is already working on an exciting new planetarium show on comets (that will be ready for the start of this summer at the Creation Museum), and he is leading a brand-new observatory program on the sun, where participants can view sunspots through filters on our telescopes. The AiG observatory is now being used for both daytime and evening programs.
Dr. Faulkner is also conducting a new teaching series on astronomy using the Creation Museum’s Stargazer’s Planetarium. Check the Creation Museum website for all program listings—I encourage you to recheck it from time to time as new programs are added. Some programs will be advertised at the museum for that day.
I also encourage you to read Dr. Faulkner’s response to the astronomy question that was sent in. I’ve included the first few paragraphs of his article below, plus the original question:
To whom it may concern,
Thank you for taking the time to answer this question. I looked on the “astronomy” section and could not find the answer. I have watched Dr. Jason Lisle’s “Created Cosmos” (which is outstanding by the way). I have friend who says we have never seen the surface of a star. Is this correct? In the video, several stars are show, ie: Betelgeuse, Alpha Centauri. He says they are too far away for us to see, we can only see their light, so we are assuming how big they are or what they might look like. He even requested a picture of a star if you have one. Thank you. PRAISE THE LORD! The heavens declare the glory of God. . . Ps 19:1.
– S.G.
Dear S.G.,
Thanks for your question. Stars are very far away—so far that they appear as mere points of light even through the most powerful telescopes, so we normally can’t see their surfaces. However, star images actually aren’t points, but instead are very tiny disks.
Astronomers express how small a stellar disk is by its angular diameter, the angle that it subtends. We divide a degree into 60 minutes and a minute into 60 seconds, so a degree contains 3,600 arc seconds. As small as an arc second is, stellar disks are much smaller still. A large stellar image might have an angular diameter of one-thousandth an arc second (one milli-arc second, or mas). One mas is the diameter of a dime viewed from about 2,000 miles! Given how small this is, it isn’t surprising that we can’t actually see stellar disks in a telescope.
Read the full article at this link.
Also, make sure you visit the Creation Museum and see the new planetarium program this summer—and consider attending one of Dr. Faulkner’s star programs during the year.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken

Tribute to Dr. Duane Gish
Here is the tribute that AiG CCO Mark Looy read out for me on Saturday at the memorial service for creationist pioneer Dr. Duane Gish. The celebration of his life was held at Shadow Mountain Community Church, El Cajon, California, April 6, 2013. Dr. Gish passed away at age 92 last month.
I wanted to have Mark Looy let you know how much I appreciated a man that many of us called, affectionately, “Creation’s Bulldog.” * That’s because of Dr. Gish’s vigorous defense of the Genesis account of creation. I’m speaking in Washington DC this weekend, and I am so sorry, Lolly and family, that I could not be with you to celebrate the life of a dear friend and colleague.
In the 1970s while living in Australia, I got hold of Duane’s great book, Evolution: The Fossils Say “No”. I also remember the joy of seeing the first major creationist children’s book on dinosaurs, Dr. Gish’s Dinosaurs: Those Terrible Lizards. The creationist group I helped found imported his two books, and thousands of copies were distributed throughout my homeland. Soon, Dr. Gish came to visit Australia to speak for our ministry.
When our family moved to the USA in 1987 and I worked with Dr. Gish and Dr. Henry Morris at ICR, Dr. Gish became something of an American grandfather to our children. Over time, Dr. Gish and the late Dr. Morris became heroes of the Christian faith to me.
What a special time it was for me to re-connect with Dr. Gish last June. He kept telling me how thrilled he was with the Creation Museum and what a blessing it was for him to have visited —and he was so encouraged to see that so many others were carrying on the worldwide creation ministry that he and Dr. Morris were so integral in starting.
It is the end of an era. Two great men of God have now moved on to their eternal homes. It’s our task to build on their tremendous legacy.
Dr. Gish knew why there was disease, suffering, and death in the world. He knew the answer was in the book of Genesis—we all live in a cursed, fallen world, as Genesis 3 teaches us. But God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, provided us the solution as Christ conquered death.
Many of our staff members can attest to the impact that Dr. Gish’s ministry had on them. Here is Mark with his recollections of a man whom God used to change Mark’s life in a very profound way . . .
For those in attendance, Mark then summarized what he wrote for our website last month about Dr. Gish and the impact he had on so many lives, including Mark’s.
Here are some photos taken during his memorial service, including one of Dr. Gish in his Army days in the 1940s. He was set to be a part of the invasion of Japan in 1945 when an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, but the invasion was put off. The war ended soon after.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
*Mark went “off script” at this point and added that many staff called Dr. Gish the “Creationist Energizer Bunny” for his untiring efforts in traveling the world to share the truths of Genesis, even into his 80s.

Reaching Scots
One of Europe’s most active creationists is my good friend Dr. Nagy Iskander. Nagy and his wife Nashua are medical doctors originally from Egypt. They have done so much to help AiG and others proclaim the creation/gospel message in their adopted home of Scotland.
A few centuries ago, most people in Scotland would have called themselves Bible-believing Christians. Today, very few people in this country, which gave us the Presbyterian church, would call themselves Christians anymore. This certainly grieves Dr. Iskander, and he has a passion to proclaim the gospel to Scots. This desire has taken many forms, including enclosing evangelistic CD-ROMs inside secular newspapers. The Glasgow Herald newspaper has distributed his Advent Calendar CD-ROM during the Christmas season—during one Christmas, Nagy distributed 130,000 CDs inside this newspaper!
Nagy and Nashua have a passion to reach young people in Scotland with the gospel. They have formed the JAM (Jesus and Me) Trust, a British charity that is for evangelism purposes. This includes JAM Clubs for local children, which is especially busy during long schools breaks, where children play games and learn Bible lessons. A few years ago, the JAM Trust acquired an empty shop outside Glasgow for a special Christmas exhibition, where the true meaning of Christmas was presented to children, teens, and adults through videos, displays, and activities. The idea was that as people were shopping for Christmas gifts, they would learn about the birth of Jesus and the salvation He offers. Now this shop unit is in use throughout the year, usually on Saturday afternoons. Included in the activities and presentations are teachings from Genesis and throughout the rest of Scripture—with staff there to answer questions.
Recently, a local newspaper in the Glasgow suburb of East Kilbride highlighted a Bible study group that Dr. Iskander (yes, he is a busy man) leads on Thursday evenings called the Bible Discovery Group. A portion of the article is below, with a photo. It just so happened that my brother Steve of AiG-USA was visiting Dr. Iskander the day this photo was taken, and you can see him in the top row, second from the left. In front of him and just to Steve’s left (in the gray suit and tie) is the chairman of the board of AiG-UK, Pastor Ian McNaughton.
Steve is heading up our international outreaches (plus our U.S. conferences) and their expansion. He was also in Thailand recently, looking for venues for a 2014 apologetics conference in that beautiful country. Steve briefed me on Thursday about the many outreaches (including a growing translations ministry) that are planned around the world over the next two years—it’s exciting. Here is the special website we have for AiG’s international programs.
Find out more about the Iskanders and their many outreaches at this link.

MSNBC TV Host—Kids Don’t Belong to Their Parents?
As I’ve shared a few times on this blog, our theme at Answers in Genesis for 2013–14 is “Standing Our Ground, Rescuing Our Kids,” based on the passage from Galatians:
Who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. (Galatians 1:4)
We’re seeing more examples of how the secularists are aiming to capture the hearts and minds of our children. In their continuing ad campaign, MSNBC TV and its website are pushing the theme “Lean Forward.” They’ve featured a number of short promotional videos covering various political topics, but in their newest spot, they’re targeting your children.
Melissa Harris-Perry, professor of political science at Tulane University and host of her own TV program on MSNBC, speaks on education in the promo, arguing that if society would view children as belonging to “whole communities,” rather than to their parents, then people would invest more in education. You can view the full ad below:
Click here to view the embedded video.
Now, Harris-Perry’s contention that children don’t belong to their parents but to whole communities directly contradicts with what Scripture says about parenting. First of all, Psalms 127:3–5 states the following:
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
As you can see, Scripture clearly states that children are a gift from God to the parents to train for the Lord. Moreover, the Bible explains that God’s intention is that parents will make wise choices for their children and “train them up in the way they should go” (Proverbs 22:6). Christian fathers specifically are commanded to “bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4). Also, God’s Word states that children are to obey the parents (Ephesians 6:1; Colossians 3:20). Does that sound like children belong to the community from God’s perspective? Of course not.
But what do you think Harris-Perry’s point really means for homeschooling families? Are such parents wrong for educating their children at home, where they can supervise what their children are learning and give them a firm biblical grounding? Well, it seems like some of this “MSNBC-type” thinking may be targeting families who choose not to allow the “community” to educate their children. Many Christian homeschooling families choose to homeschool because they want to train their children up with a Christian worldview—a worldview that would not be found in a public school, where the “community” by and large educates children in an atheistic religion.
Consider that the Obama administration is currently opposing the request for asylum by a German homeschool family that fled to America because homeschooling is illegal in Germany. The very arguments the administration is using to come against the asylum request could be used to restrict or close down homeschooling in America. See my previous blog post on this topic.
This MSNBC video, while it’s only a short promo for a media organization, is also an indication of where the culture is headed. More and more, we’re seeing the loss of our religious freedoms in this country, including the right to educate our children with a Christian worldview.
The secularists are out to get our kids. Christians are being maligned and marginalized in this country. Increasingly, Christians are seen as the enemy. We certainly do need to rescue our kids from this evil generation. Satan is active on planet earth—and actively attempting to capture your kids away from the Lord. Remember, Adolf Hilter said, “He alone, who owns the youth, gains the Future!”*
Christians need to be more diligent than ever in training their kids in the truth of God’s Word and the gospel. We believe the Lord has raised up the AiG ministry (with resources, the Creation Museum, and coming Ark Encounter) to help parents to rescue their kids from this evil world.
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken

So Now Biblical Christians Are “Non-Jihadist Terrorists” and a “Greater Threat Than Those Who Admire Al Qaeda”? Beware!
Biblical Christians are being actively maligned with deliberate attempts to marginalize us in this increasingly secularized culture.
In recent times we have see an increase in secularists doing the following:
Accusing Christians/creationists of “child abuse” (as Lawrence Krauss, Arizona State University professor, has been delcaring in recent times).
Claiming Christianity is a virus (as atheist Richard Dawkins and others have done).
Accusing people with religious convictions of mental health issues—and causing children to have their own mental health problems (as we saw in a recent TIME article).
I want to suggest to you there is an increasing ploy by secularists to indoctrinate the public into thinking that biblical Christians are the enemy and dangerous to the culture. I must admit, I’ve been quite surprised at how rapidly the anti-Christian rhetoric is growing across this country.
You may be shocked to read what was written in a CNN opinion piece April 4 by Peter Bergen. CNN describes the author this way:
Peter Bergen is CNN’s national security analyst, the author of “Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for bin Laden — From 9/11 to Abbottabad” and a director at the New America Foundation. Jennifer Rowland is a program associate at the New America Foundation.
In this opinion piece titled “Growing threat of extreme right-wing violence,” Bergen states the following:
But the New America data shows that domestic terrorists motivated by non-jihadist ideologies now pose a similar or even greater threat than those who admire al Qaeda. We define non-jihadist terrorists to be those who carry out or aspire to carry out acts of politically motivated violence, and who fall into the following categories: right-wing extremists who oppose the government, subscribe to a neo-Nazi ideology, or oppose homosexuality or abortion; left-wing extremists; violent animal rights activists; and violent environmental activists. (emphasis mine)
So according to CNN’s national security analyst, those who oppose homosexual behavior or abortion (that is, biblical Christians) are “non-jihadist terrorists” and a “greater threat than those who admire al Qaeda”—a “threat” to the culture.
Christians and Christian leaders need to wake up their local churches to what is happening. Christian persecution for those who take God at His Word is underway in this nation. America has gone over the edge of a precipice and is on a catastrophic spiritual decline from a Christian perspective—with increasing attacks against biblical Christians.
We are in a massive spiritual battle.
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. (Ephesians 6:10–18)
You can read the entire shocking opinion piece on the CNN website.

Ken
