The End of the Greatest Thing Internet Marketing Has Ever Given Us

In mere days, the Old Spice Guy has grown from being an awesome commercial with a remarkably Mike McGee-esque sense of humor and delivery ...

... to a full-blown Internet sensation. And perhaps smartly, Old Spice has retired the gag before it grows old.

But nothing ever really dies on the Internet, so let's look back at some of the highlights of THE BEST AD CAMPAIGN EVER!

Of course, there was Old Spice Guy as Luke Cage:

And there was his solving Obama's problem with poll numbers (with a little he...

Cool, Quirky Telegram (and other stuff delivered without irony)

OK. I know I just used the words "cool" and "quirky" in the subject line to describe my stalwart local paper and employer, but you know what? I regret nothing! Because there's all sorts of cool, offbeat stuff in today's paper.

First off, there's Jackie Reiss' wonderful write up of Gary Glazner's Alzheimer's Poetry Project, which was in town yesterday. (Which also got blogged about on Harriet!) Then, there''s Dianne Williamson's recounting of her experience talking about Mel Gibson on the...

Laying it out on the table

Just sent what I think is the final poetry and fiction budgets to the section editors for the upcoming issue of "The November 3rd Club." Acceptances and rejections soon.

The issue is massively behind deadline, in part because I've been dragging my feet on a decision.

This will be the last issue.

Please don't mistake that for any unhappiness or dissatisfaction on my part. I'm still immensely proud of the work we've done. But I've been at this for five years, now, and I'm beginning to think I'...

Morning Thoughts

I set up a profile on SlamProfile.com, the new social networking sites for slam poets. On the whole, it's an extremely well-built site, and easily the best of the "niche" social-networking sites I've seen. Of course, most niche social networking sites die ignoble deaths, because everyone eventually wants to go talk about something else. Indeed, I've already seen one well-intentioned person wax excitedly that he had a new place to put announcements and such. Which is the absolutely WORST thing...

Pop Culture A-Go-Go ...

Excellent time co-featuring for StreetBeat's 10th anniversary last night. Not a huge crowd, but an enthusiastic and attentive one, and a very nice open mic, too. All in all, a great time. And there was CAKE!

Afterward, caught up with friends celebrating Sarah S.'s birthday at Nick's. Drank Manhattans, listened to torch songs and was regaled by a story of lesbians hot-tubbing in a Canadian mansion. Seriously fun night.

Odds and Ends ...

Lea and I are co-featuring at StreetBeat tonight. Lot going on, all over the place, so I expect it to be quiet. Still, it's the reading's 10th anniversary (which I admit, I had been informed of, and totally forgot), so hopefully some folks will turn up.

My taste in reality TV runs squarely toward the "artistic competitive" side. Your Top Chef, Work of Art, Project Runway school. Still, I have to admit, the pang of curiosity hit me when I discovered that poet and longtime acquaintance Ragan ...

Everything Victor Knew About His Own Gigs Was Wrong!

Well. OK. Not everything. But he was off on a few things.

Yeah, we know we're sort-of up against the North Beast Regional Poetry Slam at the Hotel Vernon. We TOTALLY understand. But, hey. If you're looking for something quieter, non-alcoholic, slightly earlier in the evening, or that allows peopel under 21, consider us an alternative!

Victor D. Infante ...
