Each player, one after the other, took a card. All of them went above twenty-one and took a shot. A second round started up quickly and Lil stood off to the side to watch. She was enjoying the game when someone pressed into the back of her. Thinking the person wanted to get past, she stepped forward only to be stopped by an arm around her waist, a strong grip that pulled her back against the solid hot wall of muscle behind her.

Warm air fanned over her ear and neck, sending shivers down her spine. His scent filled her nose, and he didn’t need to speak for Lil to know who had hold of her. Mac. He gripped her hip, splayed his fingers and urged her to take a step backwards. Her body was never her own when he was around, and she let him lead her where he willed. He moved them out of the way and stepped them into the corner of the room.

In a second, Mac spun her around. He pushed her into the corner and caged her in, his hands flat on the wall either side of her waist. In her five-inch heels they were eye to eye and she could see the swirl of emotion in his blue gaze. She’d gone too far with tonight’s party, but that wasn’t what had her worried. No, what made her anxious was the look on his face that said he wanted to kiss her. They’d been there and done that with disastrous effects. Lillian didn’t know if she could survive a second time.

“You can run, Lilli, but you can’t hide forever.”

Mac waited for the explosion. He didn’t for one second think she’d let him get away with pinning her in a corner. No, Lillian McDermott never let anyone limit her. She took what she wanted when she wanted. It galled him to think she’d turned out exactly like her mother. That woman had a lot to answer for, the least of which was her absentee parenting. He shuddered. The last person he wanted occupying his mind was Gabriella McDermott. He’d much rather concentrate on her sexy daughter.

The one who drove him nuts but pulled him closer with every breath he took. He’d tried to stay away, tried to ignore the gut-burning need to see if the kiss they’d shared was a fluke. His gaze dropped to her mouth. Slightly parted, her cherry-red lips beckoned, a siren’s call he knew he couldn’t refuse—didn’t want to deny. Mac leaned forward, his lips a breath from hers.

“Mac?”

His name on her tongue, the puff of warm air that blew over his chin and the tremor of her lips made him smile. “Lilli.”

“What are you doing?” she whispered.

“I thought that was obvious.” He didn’t pull away but moved his body closer to hers, his chest barely touching the tips of her breasts when she sucked in a breath.

“You can’t.”

“Can’t?”

“N-no.” Her lips brushed his. “It’s bad, remember?”

Mac pulled back a fraction to focus on her eyes. “What?”

“Kissing me.” She licked her lips and sent his blood pressure soaring. “When we did it before, you said it was bad.”

For a second, he hadn’t a clue what she meant, and then it clicked. “Oh, no, it wasn’t the kiss that was bad, Lilli.” He lowered his head, brought his mouth back within touching distance of hers. “I’ll prove it.”

He slanted his mouth across hers. Thrust his tongue between her parted lips to plunder. Mac didn’t ease into the kiss. He dove deep, headfirst. She tasted of champagne and cherries. Of lush decadence that spoke of untold pleasure. The party faded away, lost in the mating of their mouths. Nothing existed but the woman now in his arms, her body plastered to his, her soft curves cradling his hard edges as he devoured her.

Her breath hitched when he sucked on her tongue, and the gaspy little moan that followed the caress of his hand down her spine dragged him further into the most sublime kiss of his life.

“I’ve got a question.”

“O-okay.” Her back came up against the wall.

“Have you ever done something just because it felt good?”

“Of course.”

He shook his head. “No. I mean jumped in with two feet without letting that brain of yours examine it from all angles.” Caging her in with his elbows planted on the wall behind her, Toby lowered his head and brushed his cheek over hers. “No thinking. Just feeling.”

She sucked in a breath. “I…um…”

“Ever let go.” He skimmed his lips up her jaw to her ear. “Ever let a man take you. Ever surrendered to pleasure so complete you felt it all the way to your bones.”

Madison trembled and her breathing shortened, growing shallower with every inhalation. “I don’t think—”

“Good. That’s exactly how I want you.”

Dayne wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and tell her it would all be okay. But he couldn’t make that promise when he had no idea if things would be fine. If there was any hope of that happening he had to come clean. Needed to tell her the truth of what he wanted—what they wanted. And when he did she just might dare to take a chance.

Dayne stood, dislodging Miki’s hand as he did. He took a step away and drew in a deep breath. This was it, do or die. Truth and dare.

“Miki, I’m on a short fuse where you’re concerned. I’ve always wanted you. I’ve never hidden that fact, but now the want is more potent, more adult, and if you touch me again I’m afraid I’ll snap and not be able to hold anything back.” Her eyes widened as he spoke and her hands shook as she twisted them together in her lap, but she didn’t run. “It’s time for our own game of Truth or Dare, Miki.”

She darted her gaze between him and Grant. He was relieved to see his friend just as tense. Dayne was rushing things, he knew that, but he couldn’t stop himself. Couldn’t deny the primal urge to claim her as his—theirs—even though moving this fast could cost them everything.

“A game?”

“Yes. We’re going to tell you the truth and then I’m going to dare you to do something with it.”

“I’m not sure I understand.”

“Just listen to him, Mikaila.”

She turned to Grant, but before she could speak he cut her off.

“Please.”

Dayne had never heard that tone in his friend’s voice before. The word was a desperate plea for her to give them what they asked for and he could only hope she did.

“Okay.”

Her answer was no more than a shaky whisper, but in the quite night it sounded like a gunshot going off. Dayne’s shoulders sagged with relief, but he knew this was only the first battle in what was rapidly turning into a fight for his life. Because he suddenly knew without a doubt that Miki was the woman for him and he couldn’t see any future without her and Grant in it.

“I, we, want you. In every way possible and more.”

He watched her chest rise as she sucked in a breath. Her gaze drifted away from his and he wanted to reach down and lift her face up until her eyes met his again, but he wouldn’t.

“You need to understand this isn’t about just one of us, Miki. We both want the same thing. You. Together.” Grant shifted in his chair so he could look at her.

Dayne crouched down beside her and took her hand. The move was guaranteed to set his nerves on edge but he couldn’t resist that small contact. “We need you to understand this isn’t only about sex either. Sure we want that and plenty of it, but we want more. How that’s going to work I don’t know, but I can’t imagine being with you without Grant being with you too.”

“So you two would…” she gestured with her free hand, “…you know.”

He shook his head.

“Oh.”

“It’s just you. Without you this need to share doesn’t exist.”

Grant’s words explained it perfectly, because without Miki the urge to share didn’t exist. Dayne stood, pulling her up with him. He let go of her hand and took a step back.

“The truth is we want you for more than one night, but if one night is all you’re willing to give us then we’ll take it.”

“I don’t know if I can.”

“I dare you to take a chance, Mikaila. One night of guaranteed pleasure with no strings attached. If you want to walk away when it’s over we won’t stop you.” Dayne knew they were rushing things, knew they were pushing, but he couldn’t slow down now. Miki made him do and say things no one else did. Made him lose control.

“We won’t like it, but we’ll respect that it’s your choice to make just as doing anything is.” Grant stepped over to stand beside him. “What happens now is up to you.”

“Sophie?”

She jerked in Stone’s arms and took a step back, except instead of letting her go, he smoothly slid one arm around her waist and kept her at his side. He put her a little behind his body as he turned to face the woman who stood a few feet away.

“Is everything alright, Sophie?” the woman from the registration desk asked, concern creasing her brow.

“Oh, yes, I…” God how did she explain Stone? Or the fact she’d just been balling her eyes out all over him?

“Hi. I’m Stone.” He extended his right hand. “Soph’s boyfriend.”

Boyfriend?

Stone disguised her shock by tugging her closer and hiding her face against his chest. He even dropped a kiss on the top of her head.

“Oh! How lovely. Sophie didn’t mention you’d be joining her.”

“She didn’t know I was coming. I got away at the last minute and wanted it to be a surprise.” He tipped his face down, his gaze connecting with Sophie’s, and smiled, winked. “That’s why she was crying. Soph gets a little emotional sometimes.”

“I’m Karen Carpenter—not the singer—and that man heading our way is my husband Sylvester—not the cat.” Karen laughed. “Welcome to the Rise and Shine.”

“Nice to meet you,” Stone said.

“Well, if you two will follow me, I’ll show you to your room. As I told Sophie earlier, it’s not the best but it’ll do in a pinch. We’re all booked up on account of the festival, so I’ve cleared out the attic room that hasn’t been refurbished yet. It has its own en suite, the plumbing is ancient, but it all works.” Karen spun on her heel and met her husband before he made it all the way across the yard.

Sophie stood on her toes so she could whisper in Stone’s ear. “Boyfriend?”

“No other way to stay close to you without revealing what’s really going on.”

“We don’t need to stay in the same room.”

He chuckled. “So is this you doing everything I say?”

Bloody hell. He had her there. Sighing, she dropped back on her heels and said, “Fine. C’mon, boyfriend, let’s go see our room.”
