Peloton offers free 90-day subscription trial for its at-home workout app

The Verge:

Peloton knows people are stuck at home, so it’s now offering new subscribers a 90-day trial, rather than 30 days, to its app. The app doesn’t require people to own a Peloton-branded treadmill or bike to participate. People can try yoga, HIIT, stretching, strength training, and other classes.

Say what you will about Peloton’s branding and advertising, and even their extremely expensive bike and treadmill. But I’ve been a subscriber of their at-home app for nearly 9 months and it’s probably been the best thing I’ve tried. It’s extremely sticky as a habit and the number of videos is insane.

WWE statement regarding WrestleMania 36

WWE:

In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.

Absolutely the right decision, but not one I expected from Vince McMahon. Doing the right thing hasn’t exactly been his thing.

Still, if there’s any public gathering still happening, remember that even WWE fell in line.

RSS…to lower anxiety?

Brent Simmons On Alternate App Icons for NetNewsWire for iOS:

Add options that reduce anxiety. An example of this is the option to not show the unread count in the Dock on Macs. (There’s a similar setting in Notifications settings in iOS.)

Damn do I love that. I had pretty well given up on RSS because of the anxiety of having this mountain of content slowly growing behind me. It’s why I mostly just have a set of bookmarks in Airtable that I check occasionally. But I have been using NetNewsWire since it relaunched, and I’ve noticed a sort of calm about it. I’m happy to see that it’s because of careful design with anxiety in mind.

I do have a feature request though: give us the option of removing the unread number on individual feeds. I’ve never seen an RSS app do this, but I’ve always wanted it. Show me what I’ve missed in the list view, but just don’t put a number on it.

Logbook, March 2-8, 2020

Albums in Rotation

Moving Walls - Matthew Good
Always Tomorrow - Best Coast
Supervision - La Roux
I am easy to find - The national
Swimmer - Tennis
YHLQMDLG - Bad Bunny
Heavy Light - U.S. Girls
Color Theory - Soccer Mommy

Movies

Invention for Destruction, 1958 - ★★★★. This is a movie that does only one thing well, but that one thing had my jaw on the floor for two hours.

A Colt Is My Passport, 1967 - ★★★½. You know what? Patton Oswald as a 21 year old is right. This fucking rules, man. This movie kicks so much ass.

Drunken Angel, 1948 - ★★★½. There’s lots of characters in this movie, but it’s really about a doctor and his patient. It’s a tragic love story about obsessively trying to save someone else from who they are, and it hits hard.

TV Shows

Finished Mrs Fletcher. A good story with only 7 episodes? More shows like this please.

Video Games

Bought:

Shenmue I & II, on sale on Steam
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories for my new GBA SP (what? I should have never gotten rid of my old one)

Played: Donut County (awesome 3-hour game that’s great for beginners), and finally began Astral Chain.

Youtube

A Link Between Worlds Retrospective.
How Does a Perfect SIMPSONS Episode Work?.
The Case for Video Games.

One genius appointment later, I think I’ve discovered an iOS13.4 beta bug. My phone refused to connect to the Apple display adapter on the latest beta. @mattcassinelli, this seems like something you’d be interested in knowing about.
Fuck everything we’re doing 5 folds https://t.co/iFDZ6vQgXx
Goodbye, $10 for a game on Steam that normally costs $40. I’m never going to play you.
Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos https://t.co/PUC1G6ohZ6
