Heel Turns 101
R-Truth grabbed a pack of smokes from an audience member, lit it (to chants of "That's illegal!"), and began puffing heartily. In no way do I condone cigarette smoking, but when he crouched over JoMo, sucked on the death dart, and then blew smoke across his former friend's prone body, my mouth hung open. As a heel, as a character who kids should look at to see what they should not do, this performance was masterful. And for the first time in my life, I am very interested in R-Truth. Do you hear that, Mr. Truth? You have my full and undivided attention, sir.

From the podcast this week
K- What was the one you bought ten years ago? Was it the Rock eating pie Bull one?
T- No, it was a Chris Jericho Jerichoholic Tshirt.
K- That was a good one.
T- Yeah, it was black with red and yellow and a bit of lettering. That's the only wrestling tshirt I've ever owned. Which is surprising considering how you might think wrestling fans should dress. But I'm not a huge fan of wrestling tshirts.
K- I think most of them are awful.
T-They're garish.
K-What I hate is, when—and this happens every day—I hate it when wrestlers wear their own tshirt. Because I come from music, I was a music freak and it was always taboo to wear your own tshirt, like you're the biggest tool in the world if you're up on stage wearing your band's tshirt. And I know that doesn't fit with wrestling but, it, wearing your own tshirt goes back to self promotion. But I like that Punk doesn't do that. He'll wear his own, but pretty often you'll see him wear tshirts of his buddies. Like he's been caught wearing Sara Del Ray and Colt Cabana tshirts all on Raw.

Defaced Art in France
The controversial work Piss Christ by the New York photographer Andres Serrano has been destroyed at a gallery in France after weeks of protests.
Just after 11am on Sunday, four people in sunglasses entered the gallery where the exhibition was being held. One took a hammer from his sock and threatened security staff. A guard restrained one man but the remaining members of the group managed to smash an acrylic screen and slash the photograph with what police believe was a screwdriver or ice pick. They then destroyed another photograph, of nuns' hands in prayer.
The culture minister, Frédéric Mitterrand, condemned the vandalism as an attack on the fundamental freedoms of creation and expression. A police complaint has been filed by the gallery and the guards.
The gallery's director, Eric Mézil, says he will keep the exhibition open to the public with the destroyed work on show "so people can see what barbarians can do".
1) This sort of thing is ridiculous and just makes the protesters seem like antiquated geezers with no place in the modern world, and 2) The value of that piece just shot up a zillion percent, because it just got validated as important.

Jane Greer in Out of the Past (1947, dir. Jacques Tourneur)
"Zzjjane, do you know what ahm-pahs-eeve mean?" [director Jacques Tourneur] asked the actress.
"Impassive? Yes."
"No 'big eyes'. No expressive. In the beginning you act like a nice girl. But then, after you kill the man you meet in the little house, you become a bad girl. Yes? First half, good girl. Second half, bad."
"I get you," she said. That was his direction, Greer recalled. "But I did throw in a few big eyes anyway. I couldn't help myself."
Tourneur also discussed with her his plan for the character's wardrobe, something typical of his films' subtle, insidious visual design. "At first you wear light colors. After you kill the man, darker colors. In the end, black."

Former Writer of Another World, As the World Turns, One Life to Live, Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless hired by WWE
Tom Casiello announced on his Twitter today that he has been hired for WWE Creative. Casiello has won multiple Emmys for his work on daytime soap operas, including Another World, As the World Turns, One Life to Live, Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless.
He's here to help with the "soap opera" part of "action soap opera." It's an impressive resume. If he even gets them nominated for an Emmy, he's worth his weight in gold.
