criminalwisdom:

The Last Bare Knuckle Heavyweight Championship Bout
On July 2, 1882 reigning champion John L. Sullivan faced challenger Jake Kilrain in an illegal prize fight that would last a ridiculous 75 rounds and go into the history books as the last bare knuckle championship bout in America.

ROUND 44: Kilrain backs – Champion stalks forward and then steps away. Sullivan bends down and begins vomiting and vomiting onto the ground. Kilrain asks the ref to disqualify the Champion for being unable to continue as a round is in progress. Ref Fitzpatrick refuses and allows Sullivan to finish vomiting and then continue. Kilrain shouts hopefully to Sullivan that he would agree to a 'Draw' decision and they could all home. The Champion angrily scoffs and refuses. Ref Fitzpatrick orders Sullivan to continue – Champion charges at Kilrain, but loses his balance and stumbles flat onto his face.

Jason thinks I can't be beaten. I'm sure I can, but I am 173 and 0. Where's Nash when you need him?

Also, awesome example from the definition, right? A woman with an indomitable spirit. Put that on my tombstone. I want people of the future confused

Poets are professionally committed to telling the truth, and how do they tell the truth? They say something that isn't true. This is the slyness of art: If you tell enough lies, you're bound to say something true.

William Meredith, The Art of Poetry, not talking about Cody Rhodes but definitely talking about Cody Rhodes.

The story of Gideon Obarzanek and Reuben...

poptech:

The story of Gideon Obarzanek and Reuben Margolin began at the Camden Opera House during PopTech 2009.  Choreographer Obarzanek presented about the work Chunky Move, his Australian-based modern dance company that's known for immersing dancers in a world of motion tracking and projection technology. Reuben Margolin, a California-based artist showed off his kinetic sculptures, objects that mimic nature that are mainly constructed from wood, pulley and motors. They saw each other's presentations and knew there was an opportunity to create something together.

A year and a half later, Connected, the collaboration between Margolin and Obarzanek was first performed at Australia's Malthouse Theater in March. It will be performed again from May 10-14 at the Sydney Theater.

Fair to Flair: Media Attention, from The Iron Sheik to Chris Benoit

Fair to Flair: Media Attention, from The Iron Sheik to Chris Benoit:

fairtoflair:

1 Until he went somewhat insane in the '90s while inexplicably running for president.

2 he was an amateur wrestling champion.

3 the product was strategically geared toward them

4 I understand that it might be a stretch to assume that one single match made Hogan's entire career. General wisdom shows that the first WrestleMania match, where Hogan teamed up against Mr T, was the real tipping point. But it's easy to forget that Hulkamania existed before WrestleMania, and it existed even before Hogan beating Sheik. Arguably, the Iron Sheik's short title reign summoned Hulkamania into WWE in order to bring peace, and we've had to deal with the Orange Bastard ever since.

5 In fact, he's still the Iron Sheik, even though he's really old and doesn't wrestle anymore.

6 and people like him.

7 let alone his inability to keep intercontinental belts out of large rivers

8 I personally attribute all of this to Goldust and Roddy Piper. While everyone else was still wrestling nice PG matches with nice, cartoon characters, Piper and Goldust were fighting in hardcore matches in drag while referencing OJ Simpson. Have I mentioned that the 90s were kind of weird sometimes?

9 Ironically, this was around the time WWE did a story about a group of black militants whose mandate was to put an end to the racist favoritism in the wrestling world.

10 Can't wait for that 3-disc best-of Val Venis collection.

11 like drugs and mp3s.

13 Seven words: World champion rapes fake corpse in coffin.

Don't get me wrong, I think I wrote a pretty good article. But what I'm really proud of is the footnote punchlines.
