Friday the 13th
Hey, everyone!
It’s been a busy year so far, Sweet Christmas, and I’ve been remiss in my updates — so here’s one!
First off, Galaxy Quest #2, originally due out on 02/18, will be delayed. This is owing to some back up at the port in California, so the books are basically stuck on the water until this is resolved. Hopefully the book will be on the stands come 02/25!
That one has one of my favorite moments for Guy. No one can say HE hasn’t learned his lesson.
I just recently turned in a pitch for a creator owned project with Erik Evensen (check out his great graphic novel here.) It’s mythology fueled (we both love our Norse mythology. We also both spell our first name properly, but that’s a whole ‘nother blog post.) I hope to have good news soon!
I know I’ve been quiet on upcoming projects, but nothing is at a place where I can talk about it! There should be some announcements coming VERY soon, though. One (not a comic book) will show up sometime in the next three weeks or so. Another (a comic book) will be announced in about five weeks, when the April Previews goes online!
As for the rest? I have no idea! But I sure hope soon!
I added a new con appearance — MSP Comic Con in May! (I have another couple of cons I know I’ll be doing on the East Coast this summer, but I’ll hold off announcing until I see my name show up on their web pages!)
And… I think that’s it. Gotta get back to work on pitches, scripts, and even some artwork!
But I leave you with this — my brother showed me this song (and hilarious video) and it’s been stuck in my head for days.
That means of course I’m passing it on to YOU. Enjoy!

Happy New Year 2015
It was the best of times, it was the worst of — wait, no, sorry, that’s something else. Don’t know what in the Dickens I was thinking…
But that is how I felt about 2014. I had some low times — issues with health, issues with finances, issues with family. None of these were particular hard-hitting, but they all hit me at moments I was most susceptible to attack. Luckily, I’m still in one piece.
The good times, though, were great. Working in comics has given me so much. I got to work with great people, made new friends, visited places I’d never been, and had so much fun doing all of the above.
I got to see friends and collaborators get what they truly deserved in all the best ways this year; dream jobs, weddings, and more than one miracle save when the wolves were at the door.
I got to play in the Marvel sandbox one more time, joining Chris Yost and Marcus To for the finale of their fun New Warriors series.
I got to work with longtime friend and editor Tom Waltz in scripting a crossover miniseries we’ve been talking about for years: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles meeting the Ghostbusters.
I got to work on some truly fun projects at IDW courtesy editors Sarah Gaydos, Carlos Guzman, and Bobby Curnow.
I got to work with brilliant artists like Erica Henderson, CP Wilson III, Ben Bates, and of course, my most frequent collaborators, Dan Schoening and Luis Antonio Delgado.
I got working on a creator owned project which I hope will be out next year, with gentleman, scholar, and art titan Erik Evensen.
Guys, I’m just namedropping at this point, and I know it. But these folks — and more — really made a positive difference in my life.
What will 2015 bring? Too soon for me to say. I’ve pitched stories I’m excited about writing (and in some cases, even drawing.) Some are long shots, some feel more like “sure things.” (Although we all know the only certainties are death and taxes, like the man said.)
I need to get back in shape — the doctor told me so! — so I’ll be pushing for that anew. (I’ve already started. Hope I don’t jinx it!)
I also need to learn to lower my stress level, or I may not it to 2025!
But mostly I’m hoping I’ll find more of the good in the world, which I will then cling to for dear life.
In fact, let’s all do that.
Happy New Year!
-Erik

FallCon, Ello, and Limited Edition!
So this coming Saturday, October 4, I’ll be joining a boatload and a half of regional comic book creators at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for FallCon 2014! Truly looking forward to the MCBA show, as I do every year. I’m there from 10-5, ready to sign, sketch, and chat.
Another upcoming signing – at Limited Edition Comics in Cedar Falls, IA – is coming up on October 22. I’ll JUST miss TMNT/Ghostbusters #1 (unless Diamond moves the book up.) But I’ll have Brent Schoonover and Mitch Gerads with me, a peerless pair of gents. We’ll have a great time at the signing! Stop by if you’re within a couple hours’ drive!
Finally, I joined the new social media platform ELLO. I don’t know if it’ll be around for the long haul or not — but new social media platforms almost always expand either my audience as a creator, my networking pool of colleagues, or simply introduces me to new friends… as such, it’s working out for me. If you happen to be on Ello, connect with me! I’m at ello.co/erikburnham
And now, back to working on the second half of Galaxy Quest (out this January from IDW!)

FallCon approaches!
The air has gotten crisp, and October approaches. Come the 4th, I’ll be at the MCBA FallCon at the MN State Fairgrounds’ Education Building. I’ll have books with me, and I’ll be signing and sketching ALL day. Well, not ALL day. Bathroom breaks are an important thing to factor in, especially since I run on coffee.
This is a few weeks before TMNT/Ghostbusters #1 comes out, but I’ll be happy to geek out about the crossover with any who wander by!

The Last Six Weeks Have Been A BLUR…
I went to the San Diego Comic Con, had a blast catching up with folks, came back to MN, and dove into my heavy work schedule.
As we speak, I’m halfway through the TMNT/Ghostbusters and Galaxy Quest work (really enjoying both) and have one issue left to help Chris Yost with on New Warriors.
I helped out on something that should be announced soon — an adaptation that should go over very well and grab some new eyes. Very excited about it, and hope to reveal it soon.
The reaction to TURTLES IN TIME #2 and #3 (art by CP Wilson III and Ben Bates, respectively) has been fantastic, as has the general reaction to Johnny Bravo (art by Erica Henderson.)
But at SDCC, the buzz was squarely on GALAXY QUEST! Folks audibly gasped at the announcement. I’m psyched to get this one out there!
Time to get back to writing… and sorting out something to make this site a little more… I don’t know, active!
Take care, y’all! I’ll see some of you in a few weeks at my last con appearance of the year: The MCBA FallCon on October 4 at the MN state fairgrounds!

San Diego Signing Schedule
I will be at the San Diego Comic Con from Thursday, July 24 (whenever I happen to make it there) until Sunday, July 27.
Mostly, I’ll be wandering around.
My definite schedule:
FRIDAY JULY 25
Signing @ the IDW Booth from 3-4pm
The BIG IDW Panel in Room 4, from 4-5pm
SUNDAY JULY 27
Signing @ the IDW Booth from 12-1pm.
That’s where you’ll be able to find me for sure! If you only have a one day pass (for Thursday or Saturday, the days when I’m not signing) and happen need something signed, heck, I’ll try to accommodate as best I can. Tweet me @erikburnham and we’ll work it out!
See you guys in next week!

UPDATE: SAN DIEGO BOUND
Some last minute miracles happened, and I will be showing up to San Diego Comic Con this year, floating around and chatting with folks.
I’ll presumably be signing at the IDW booth at some point over the weekend in support of my Ghostbusters, TMNT, and Johnny Bravo work, as well as to talk about upcoming projects. So that’s good news.
Since this trip was literally a last minute decision, I’m opening commission books to defray some of the associated costs… we can arrange a meeting at the show for delivery if you’ll be there, or it can be mailed out to you in August!
$30 for a head-to-chest bust, color or grayscale, with optional dialogue!
$150-$200 for an 11×17 cover recreation (this… won’t survive air travel to the show, so this’d definitely be mailed to ya!)
Here are a couple of recent ones from an upcoming signing.

SEE YOU IN SAN DIEGO!

It’s True! It’s All True!
Sadly, the ongoing GHOSTBUSTERS series I’ve worked on (with Dan Schoening, Luis Delgado, Tom Waltz, Tristan Jones, Evan Shaner, Blair Shedd, Erik Evensen, and Felipe Torrent) is concluding with issue #20 of volume 2, our 36th issue overall.
As it stands, issue #20, the last issue of Mass Hysteria, is up for pre-order RIGHT NOW at Diamond. I’m scripting that issue as we speak!
It’s bittersweet to end the ongoing right now; we’re still having fun and loving our work… but these things happen. As long as IDW holds the license, I (and, schedules willing, Dan and Luis I’m sure) will be ready and raring to return.
More on that later.
Mostly, I want to thank the fans for their genuine and massive outpouring of support for the title. We appreciate all the love, and are ready to believe you!
Meantime, SPREAD THE WORD. Order the trades from your local retailer! Pre-order #20 — Diamond Preorder Code JUL140389 — and we have an excellent argument to return after an extended hiatus. Maybe 2015. Who knows?
But even if we AREN’T renewed… going out on a high note is still pure win.
Thank you, Ghostheads, for everything.
See you on the other side!

Upcoming Signing in Cedar Falls & Other News
I’ll be signing and sketching at Limited Edition Comics in Cedar Falls, IA on Wednesday, July 16. Looking forward to it!
I’ll be there with Cory Hamscher (Supreme, Spectacular Spider-Man) and Mitch Gerads (Marvel Now Punisher, The Activity). Classy gents. Even if I wasn’t there, it’d be a great time!
Other news: just finished the first draft of a creator owned script – my first in 6 or 7 years! Very excited about this one. No hints on what it’s about yet, but the artist is Erik Evensen (he of Gods of Asgard and Beast of Wolfe’s Bay fame. Both excellent and recommended reads!)
I’ve got three books coming out in July — Turtles in Time #2: Feudal Japan, with art by CP Wilson III; Super Secret Crisis War: Johnny Bravo, with art by Erica Henderson; and of course, Ghostbusters #18 – part 6 of Mass Hysteria with art by Dan Schoening and Luis Delgado!
BUY ALL IN MASS QUANTITIES!
Until next time!
