Working on Cyborgs this month
Here’s a rough sneak peek at Adam, Cyborg number 6 in the series.
Their lips separated, and they stared at each other, her bright brown eyes behind her glasses meeting his gaze with wonder. Her breath, already coming faster, brushed warmly against him.
The moment stretched, fraught with anticipation and desire. The cognitive part of his brain suggested he step away. Getting involved with the doctor, however pleasurable, wasn’t part of his mission. It could prove a danger especially given her scientific background. What if she recognized what he was? She could jeopardize more than his life. It was an unacceptable risk.
And yet…
The man within said fuck it.
He crushed her to him, his arms wrapping around her tight, his mouth claiming hers with an intensity and determination.
Intrigued, good. And just so you know, not long after this touching scene, I blew shit up! Literally. lolol.

A Sneak Peek at Wolf’s Capture
What’s this around my neck? Cold and heavy, it seemed someone had given him some jewelry. His fingers explored the metal band ringing his neck.
Argh. Someone collared me.
Was it childish to want to make choking noises? Probably, and he did restrain himself, but his wolf felt no such need and whined pitifully in his mind.
A wolf could handle plenty of things. However, he’d never willingly give up his freedom.
Getting caught was embarrassing, and Brody could see he’d have to work on escape if he intended to maintain his man card in good standing.
Time to give this contraption the slip.
He felt along the tubular metal ring, searching for a clasp. Only smooth metal met his touch. Seamlessly joined with no hint of a button or trigger.
It’s getting tighter, whined his wolf.
It wasn’t, but the setback of not quickly removing it didn’t sit well. Brody needed to try something different. Given he was stronger than the average man, he’d snap the fucking thing. Slipping his fingers around the ring, he tugged. He twisted. He cursed a storm—in more than one language.
The damned necklace wouldn’t come off.
Ack. Gurgle. His wolf collapsed into a mentally traumatized heap.
Brody almost laughed.
You are such a drama king.
His wolf gave him the mental equivalent of the evil eye.

Awooo! Are you ready for the wolf?
When she awoke the next day, the sudden glare of the lights illuminating a shocking wake-up call, she noted that he’d indeed spent the night crouched, watching and waiting.
“Morning,” she said as she stretched.
Through the hank of hair on his forehead, he perused her. He grunted in reply.
“Aren’t you a ray of sunshine?” she said, rolling free of her blankets to stand.
“Being a prisoner will do that to a man.”
“Great. Not only am I stuck with you for the moment, but you’re a grumpy puss.”
“Wolf.”
“Whatever. Mind plugging your ears while I attend to business.”
“You’re going to pee?” He sounded so shocked.
“Yes. And brush my teeth. Is that a problem?”
“But I’m here.”
“So I noticed. Hence the request.”
“Woman don’t pee around men.”
How she wished that were true. “I have to go, and I see no reason to hold it in to protect your delicate sensibilities.”
“Delicate?”
“Yes, delicate. This is not a five-star hotel. Heck, on the scale of prisons, I don’t know if it even ranks a one. Which means, no walls, which means you get to hear and see it all. So get used to it. If it’s any consolation, I imagine you will have to tinkle as well at some point. I promise to not watch when you do.”
“I’ll escape before then.”
As Layla sat on the throne, her cheeks burning despite her brave words, she murmured, “Good luck with that.”
He’d thankfully already averted his gaze and now clapped his hands over his ears as she took care of her pressing bladder. He even hummed. She wondered what he’d do when her second order of business decided it needed tending. She’d gotten used to a lack of privacy over the years, but there was ugly, leering guards and cameras, and then there was handsome hunk in a cage with her.
Nothing screamed romance like seeing and hearing a woman pee.
Good thing I’m not planning seduction then.
Once she brushed her teeth, she returned to sit cross-legged on her bed. As if that were a sign, he finally rose to his feet and did his own version of a morning stretch.
She should have looked away. Pretended interest in a wall.
Yeah, that didn’t happen.
One glimpse of rippling flesh as he pulled his arms over his head, to the front, back, and she was mesmerized.
“Good thing there’s no flies left, or you’d catch some,” he remarked as he caught her staring.
She snapped her mouth shut. “Sorry. As you might have noticed, the entertainment level is kind of low, so anything new is kind of fascinating. Even you.” She tried to make it sound disparaging, but he smirked, too easily reading the lie.
“So what do you do all day?” he asked, still stretching his limbs.
“Depends on if the master is having a villain day or not.”
“A villain what?”
“Some days, the master likes to take me out of the cage, and he’ll have me set a group of animals on a task. Usually something nefarious. I call those villain days.”
“And when you’re not on a task for him?”
She shrugged. “Not much. I read. Insult the guards. Plot escape.”
His gaze caught hers. “Plot? What about executing an escape?”
“Like I’ve said. I’ve tried. So far, that hasn’t worked out so well for me.” Or else she wouldn’t be at number fifty-seven.

Holiday Wishes and Treats
Hello EveL Minions and Awesome Readers,
I wanted to give you a quick shout out and say Merry Freakn’ Christmas. My fans are some of the most awesome people in the world. Seriously.
2014 was a busy year for me. Not only did I write a lot of books, I hit a few romance conventions where I got to meet some amazing readers. You totally rocked. In 2014, I also managed hit USA Today, as well as New York Times a few times. Talk about amazing for a Canadian mom who started writing about 5 years ago because her husband dared her.
Changing careers in my thirties was scary, yet liberating. I am so blessed to be able to do something I love, even if it means more hours sitting at a desk than ever before, lol. But, the readers who contact me and tell me how much they enjoy my stories make it worth the work. I especially love knowing I make you smile.
Here’s to hoping I still manage to tickle your reading funny bone in 2015.
Hugs and best wishes,
~Eve Langlais

My Top Ten Christmas Movies
I’ll admit, I am a Christmas fanatic. I love the glitz and tinsel and tacky decorations. I adore shopping for special gifts–and jokes–for my family. And I am a sucker for a great Christmas movie with feel good moments and humor. Here’s my top ten favorites:
1. Santa Vs. The Snowman – Funniest cartoon ever! I snicker like a fiend when the elves come out with their hot cocoa guns.
2. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – A classic. I love it when Chevy Chase get’s that Hallelujah moment with his lights. Now if I could just convince hubby to get on our roof and truly light our own place up, lol.
3. Rise of the Guardians – Love Russian Santa with his tattoos. The imagination and animation in this movie is incredible.
4. Rudolph The Rednose Reindeer – BUMBLE rules! This is a nostalgic one that always makes me think of being kid and the excitement I used to feel as the holiday season approached.
5. Santa Claus is Coming To Town – I love the music in this one and the story of Santa’s origin. And yes, I sing along, which annoys my kids to no end.
6. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (original cartoon) – A classic with great music. And while I don’t know the darned words, I fake it as I croon with the Who’s.
7. Arthur’s Christmas – The elf and his tape make for some lolol moments. I also love the high tech explanations. Fun to watch with the kids.
8. The Nightmare Before Christmas – Because I’m strange it makes the list.
9. Home Alone – Am I the only mother who gets mad anyone could forget her baby? My kids love it, and every year I yell at the mother. [image error]
10. A Christmas Story – Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra, lolol . My hubby loves this movie so much that when I found a smaller version of the leg lamp, I had to buy it for him. It has a place of pride in his mancave, lol.

Can a vain ex-soldier save a little girl’s Christmas?
Someone was in the barn with him.
“Come out, come out, wherever you are,” he sang, his hand straying to the holster with the gun he kept strapped under his leather vest.
A rustle in a bale of hay at the far end of the barn snared his attention, and he almost drew his gun, but stayed the motion at the last minute. Good thing, because the head that popped out belonged to a little girl and not the enemy.
Blonde hair in fat curls framing chubby cheeks made the giant green eyes staring at him all the more striking. And freaky. Because she stared. And stared. Yet she didn’t say a word.
First impulse? Run from the adorable little girl. Instead, of fleeing from her deadly cuteness, he channeled his sarge and barked, “Who are you? What are you doing here?”
Her eyes widened, and with a squeak of fear, she dove back into the hay.
Brilliant. Just brilliant. He’d scared a little girl. As if he didn’t suffer enough guilt, now he felt like a total seal. Which rhymed with heel. But seals were dumber than his foot.
And barking at a tiny little girl definitely ranked as dumb.
I should just walk away before I make things worse. But given her age and the fact there wasn’t another adult around…
Sigh. He gentled his tone. “I’m sorry, sweetie. I didn’t mean to sound so gruff. You took me by surprise, which, hey, is pretty impressive considering I used to be in the army.”
Not a creature stirred, not even a child.
How about a promise? “I won’t hurt you.”
Nothing.
“Does anyone know you’re here?” In other words, was there an adult nearby freeing him to escape this uncomfortable situation?
A slight rustle of hay answered him but didn’t clarify the situation.
Another heavy sigh left him. “Come on, sweetie, I can’t leave you here alone. Reid would have my a—um, butt. Talk to me.”
Slowly, the golden curls emerged with bits of straw stuck to them. Big eyes blinked at him.
“Are you lost? “
She shook her head.
“Does you mom or dad know you’re here?”
A negative shake.
“Can I help you?”
She tilted her head and perused him. What was it with certain members of the opposite sex? Where did they learn that ability to give you a look? You know the one. The look that made you want to squirm, knowing you were probably coming up short in their estimation.
Except, he didn’t fail this time. As if seeing something that satisfied her, the little blonde cherub nodded before lisping, “Yes.”
“What can I help you with, sweetie?”
“Not me. Santa.”
A frown creased his brow. “Santa?” He almost said, “You mean Earl?” before it occurred to him the little girl might not yet know that the big, burly geezer was playing the part. She was still of an age where magic seemed possible and big fat guys on sleighs could and would deliver presents.
“I heard you talking. You need to find Rudolph. Santa needs him for his sleigh.”
Oh crap on a stick. The little girl had heard him discussing the whole Rudolph thing with Crystal, and she’d drawn her own youthful conclusion. How to explain without revealing anything?
“Sorry, sweetie, I wish I could help.” You could, chided his conscience. You’re just choosing not to.
Shut up, he snarled at his own mind. Bad enough when Reid and Crystal guilted him. He didn’t need his own thoughts to add to the pile.
How could one pair of eyes look so sad? Ack. Kyle almost made the sign of the cross in front of her because surely she had some kind of magic at work because he almost said the most ridiculous thing. He almost told her not worry, that Rudolph would be there.
Never!
“Why don’t you climb out of that pile of hay and come with me? We’ll go find your parents. They’re probably worried.”
She shrank from him.
For some reason, this caused a painful pang in him. She was too young to show such fear. Yet he knew that look. He’d borne it when he was a kid and his father came home in one of his moods. “Oh, sweetie, don’t be scared. I won’t hurt you.”
“But you’re big.”
“Yes I am. And strong.” Hmm, maybe he shouldn’t have pointed that out.
She nodded. “You are, and scary,” she added.
“Me?” He grabbed at his chest in mock horror. “Is this your way of telling me I’m ugly?”
A small giggle escaped her. “No, silly. But handsome doesn’t mean nice. That’s what my mama says.”
“In some cases, probably, but not this time. Why, I’m the nicest guy you’ll ever meet.”
“Malcolm said he was nice too, but he wasn’t. He was mean to my mama, and me.”
Wouldn’t Kyle love to teach this Malcolm a lesson about treating a woman right? “Well, I’m not this Malcolm guy, and I can tell you right now, I’m never mean to the ladies.” Even stubborn ones. “And I’ll tell you something else, if that Malcolm dude were to walk in here right now and try anything, I’d totally kick his ass.” Whoops on the language.
Thankfully she didn’t seem to notice. “You’re a knight?”
Almost did he snicker, but she seemed so serious. He held it in. “Knight in tattooed armor, sweetie. So don’t you worry that pretty little head of yours. No one will so much as fart in your direction while I’m around.”
She giggled. “Farts don’t hurt.”
“But they sure stink,” he said with a smile and a moue of distaste.
Apparently it took a bodily function jest for her to decide he was trustworthy. She emerged from her pile of hay, clutching a ragged stuffed animal in a chubby fist. When he held out his hand, he expected her to clasp it. Instead, she tucked into his reach and lifted her arms.
Despite him not spending much time around children, Kyle recognized the universal gesture for ‘pick me up’. He did, the little girl’s weight feather-light even with her jacket and boots.
“Where to, sweetie?”
“Mama’s working on the parade for Santa.”
“Then let’s go find her.” Maybe he could also get some clues on this Malcolm fellow, who seemed to think it was cool to threaten women. Kyle wanted to speak with the guy—with his fists.
Mission #737: Find this Malcolm dude and teach him a lesson. A Christmas gift to the little angel in his arms.

PLEASE NOTE: This Christmas novella originally appeared in the anthology, A Kiss of Christmas Magic.
Damn it, a man had his pride and a caribou a certain majestic presence, all of which could wind up ruined if he abased himself to play a simple-minded reindeer in the town’s Christmas parade.
No way was he wearing damned tinsel in his antlers.
Like hell was he sporting a red nose and pulling a sleigh.
But he changes his mind when he meets the woman in charge of the event.
Single mom, Crystal, is doing her best to offer her daughter the best Christmas ever. It’s their first in Kodiak Point, and she’s not about to let some vain jerk ruin it for her little girl. If playing dirty is what it takes…then bring on the Christmas games.
As Crystal and Kyle butt heads—and lips—they discover more than goodwill this holiday season. They’re gifted with a second chance at love.
