Zombie Apocalypse in Elizabeth Monvey's "A Cold Breath"
**STOP BACK ON THE 31ST FOR A HALLOWEEN GIVE-A-WAY
1) Tell us about the world your novel set in.
This world is the zombie apocalypse. Typical brain eaters, I guess, always looking for their next meal. Starts off in Las Vegas, but I move it into the mountain. Why not? If there was a zombie outbreak, I think that’s where I’d go.
2) What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
The zombies are the plot device that sets up the world, but the characters are what makes the story. I wanted to analyze what would make you keep going if this was your world because I think character development is important as well as interesting. It’s why I like The Walking Dead so much.
3) Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Definitely. Maybe not zombies so much, although I did learn about a man in Haiti who was put under a curse, drugged into a living death scenario, and then kept in a haze to work on a sugarcane plantation for twenty years. That I could believe.
4) Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
Yes. I’ve written another book in my “My Boyfriend Is…” series, titled “My Incubus Boyfriend” and I have a few more planned for that series in 2020. As for stand-alones, I always keep my ears open for ideas.

The world has changed. Almost two years after the zombie plague destroyed civilization, the last of mankind is trying to hold on. Remy lives with his father inside the walls of a safe haven, until the night they're attacked by a swarm of walking dead. But when help arrives, he's horrified to discover the haven has been targeted to be destroyed—infected or not.
Atticus left his home when his lover was bit. Mourning the loss, he looks for something to keep him going. To not give up. He may have stumbled into the wrong group, but he can’t hurt innocents.
They find each other in the middle of an apocalypse, and although Remy might be wary of the handsome loner, he realizes Atticus might just be the person he needs to stay safe.
If only he didn’t feel so attracted to the man. Be Warned: m/m sex
Excerpt:
“Who do you think he was?” he asked.
“What?”
“The zombie that almost made me lunch. Who do you think he was that he ended up in a closet like that?”
“I don’t know,” Atticus replied. “Does it matter?”
“Yeah. I think it does.”
“Why?”
“Because I bet he never thought he’d end up stuck in a closet and forgotten about. Just like we can’t imagine where we’ll be when our time comes. I think what keeps us from becoming completely apathetic is knowing who we were and remembering that we were once human.”
“Isn’t dead just … dead?”
“But he had a name. A family. Friends.”
“Maybe he was bit, and his friends put him in the closet to protect themselves before locking up and walking away. If that’s the case, they weren’t really friends because they didn’t put him out of his misery. They left him to turn.”
“Or they cared too much and couldn’t do it.”
Atticus pursed his lips. “Sentiments get you killed in this world.”
“So, you care for no one? For nothing?”
“I care about myself.”
Remy frowned because his statement didn’t jive with his actions. “If you’re still around if I’m ever bit, will you put me out of my misery? I don’t want to be one of them.”
“You won’t end up like that.”
“You don’t know that. Promise me and I’ll promise you the same. If you get bit, I’ll give you the permanent death.”
“Just stop it!” Atticus shouted, banging his hand on the wheel. “I told you. You won’t end up like that, and I won’t have to do something I don’t want to do. Now just drop the fucking subject, okay?”
“Fine. Whatever.”

New Release Saturday...Featuring Lea Bronsen's "Carnivora Part 1"

I’ve always been fascinated by dark psychological thrillers that mess with your mind and keep you on the edge of your seat. I toyed with the genre writing my debut novel Wild Hearted, but labeled it a crime drama. Its sequel, Carnivora, evolved over six years to become a full-blown hold-your-breath thriller that deals with grave issues such as kidnapping, child sex trafficking, and self-harm.
Telling five parallel stories with as many voices, it gives you the perspectives of a police informant, a hunted gangster, a mad avenger, an inconsolable girlfriend, and a psychotic kidnapper. I pull no punches weaving these stories, so be prepared for a dark, gritty, and graphic read – a little dirty on the erotic side – that I hope will play with your strings and stick with you for a long time.
Please note that this is part 1 of Carnivora and I am currently working on parts 2 and 3, so if those cliffhangers at the end are killing you, don’t despair. The continuation is right around the corner!
Blurb Fight evil with evil.
TOMOR
Crime lord Tomor is serving a life sentence behind bars. Without warning, he’s abducted by mysterious men. A sick manhunt is on, with people around him dying like flies. He will need all his street flair and gangster skills to prevent his loved ones from ending up on the death list.
LUZ
Luz grieves the loss of her lover while striving to take care of their baby. The last thing she needs is to fall for the new neighbor.
DAVID
A year after he betrayed his adoptive father and sent him to jail, David is slowly rebuilding his life. Then everything falls apart again: he learns that Tomor has escaped, and his police connections lead him to a child sex trafficking ring involving cold, powerful men.
The cops are in over their heads with “Project Carnivora” … Perhaps the only one who can help bust the pedophile predators is an equally vicious devil: Tomor, the country’s most hunted criminal.

Excerpt“Time to change your bandage again,” the nurse mutters, voice cool, and pulls my orange-colored sleeve up to the elbow.
She unrolls the long strip of bandage from my wrist and tugs at one corner of the gauze plastered on my wound. It sticks as if glued to the freshly grown skin, and instead of removing the gauze carefully, she tears if off hard, discharging pain through my arm, wrist-to-shoulder.
I open my eyes and lift my head off the pillow. “What the fuck are ya doing, trying to reopen the wound or something?”
“Like you care.” She stops pulling and glares, gauze between her fingers. “I can see who you are inside. You’re playing tough, aren’t you, bad guy? But you can’t fool me.”
“Shut up.” I lay down again, huffing, and stare at the white ceiling above me with its rows of long neon lights.
“You’re a good man.”
I glance back. “I said, shut the fuck up.”
Her eyes shine. She rips off the remaining gauze, ignoring my grunt of pain, and throws it in a bin. “Look.”
No fuck.
“Look at it,” she insists, voice low and demanding.
No. I know what I’ve done, and I can imagine what it looks like. A six centimeter-long deep, reddish, scratched-up ridge along my artery. Layers of skin, fat, meat, and whatnot must be visible and sweating a pinkish liquid from the reborn pores. I don’t need to see it.
I guess the girl wants me to be so horrified, I’ll never attempt suicide again. That’s right. She wants to shock me into acceptance.
You gotta be fucking kidding me, little thing.
She shakes her head. “I don’t understand why they gave you the life sentence.”
“You mean they shoulda given me the chair?”
Instead of responding to my sarcasm, she pivots to look up at the clock and widens her eyes as if realizing she forgot an appointment. Face tense, she returns to her work, applies some cool, gel-like liquid on the wound, and bandages it with quick routine moves.
What’s up with her? In my three days in this woman’s company, I’ve noted the things that make her tick. Maybe she’s upset because I’m leaving the infirmary soon. Earlier, she said she didn’t know when I’d be ready to go back to my cell. She probably knows now, but doesn’t want to tell me.
The door opens. She jumps.
A uniformed guard pokes his head in, checks the small room, and exits.
She seems frozen in place, features tense. Staring ahead and taking deep breaths as if trying to regain composure.
I cock my head a little. “What’s going on? They gonna transfer me?”
She visibly swallows and fixes her gaze on some point on the wall.
I snicker. “Are you sad ‘cause I’m leaving?”
Ha, I can be so ugly, when the girl clearly likes me.
As she sits there avoiding me, I take the time to check out her tits, and drink in the amazing sight of their pressing against her green blouse with each breath. She doesn’t have a name tag. Come to think of it, none of the personnel do. Evidently, so the inmates can’t identify their ‘caretakers’, and should they by some miracle leave the premises, track them down.
I nod to her blouse. “What’s your name?”
She twists back to me, brows raised, before shaking her head. “I can’t tell you that.”
“C’mon, I’ll never see you again.” I grin, then add with an ironic snicker, teasing her, “They’ll never let me slash my wrists, or hang myself.”
She looks away and busies herself collecting the medical stuff, throwing a quick, almost invisible glance to the door. What the hell is making her so nervous?
Coldness fills my chest. Something’s up.
“Come on, Babe,” I coax with my most gentle, sensual voice, wanting to buy time. “Tell me your name.”
“Why?” she whispers, fidgeting with the roll of bandage.
“’Cause I want a name to your pretty face when I jack off in my cell.”

Four Devilish Stories from Cassie O'Brien!

1) Tell us about the world your novel set in (eg: witches, ghosts, creature, etc).
One Hell of a Business is a small collection of 4 devil themed short stories, 3 contemporary and 1 medieval, set on Earth and in Hell.
2) What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
My devils are gender fluid and manifest in whichever form suits their mood.
3) What is your favorite type of Paranormal story to read?
I love a good ghost story and as I more normally write romance, preferably with a love interest.
4) Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
I once had a psychic describe to me a ring of my late mother-in-law’s I was wearing on a chain out of sight beneath my sweater. A lucky guess or not, I don’t know but given an infinite universe in which we are less than a microdot to dismiss the possibility of paranormal existence has got to be about on a par with joining the Flat Earth Society.
5) Did you use any historical facts in your book?
I enjoyed researching the ‘big bang’ theory for ‘A Promise Redeemed’ and the timeline for the creation of Earth in the story is as factually accurate as current scientific ‘thinking’ can make it.
6) What are your upcoming projects?
It’s back to the world of historical romance for me now. I’m writing a standalone romp set in the 1660’s at the court of Charles II while also co-authoring a Regency with the lovely Raven Mcallan.

When the Devil calls, you obey…
One Hell of a Business
Ouija boards…they don’t work. Do they? Two men and women find out when an apparition appears—one who isn’t what he seems. In disguise as someone they can trust, the demon infiltrates their minds and orchestrates one hell of a business.
Signed, Sealed, & Delivered
Daniel’s roving eye is going to get him into trouble—with the Devil. He makes a pact, promising what he has no intention of delivering, but after an encounter Daniel and his wife will never forget, he will have to seal the deal…
Eternal Reward
In the guise of Sir Richard, the Master’s disciple has only one thing in mind…and Alain is the target. A visit to an altar ensures the Devil has one more follower, and it proves that evil walks among us in seemingly innocent form…
A Promise Redeemed
Nicole is about to realize demons and devils don’t forget their promises. She’s lived a long life, but a vow made in her youth finally catches up with her. Someone arrives, once again enticing her, and she’s only too willing to follow…
Excerpt
From the Testament of Solomon (970bc – 931bc.) as translated by F.C. Conybeare for the Jewish Quarterly Review, xi. 20. – October 1898. Asmodeus’ replies to King Solomon while being questioned by him as to his name and function.
“I am called Asmodeus among mortals, and my business is to plot against the newly wedded, so they may not know one another. And I sever them utterly by many calamities; and I waste away the beauty of virgins and estrange their hearts.”
And I said: “Is this your only business?”
And he answered: “I transport men into fits of madness and desire when they have wives of their own, so that they leave them and go off by night and day to others that belong to other men…”
*****
From the iPad of Asmodeus (2018) after reading Mr. Conybeare’s translation of the exchange of words between himself and Solomon as quoted in an article entitled The Ancient Tongues of Egypt on the tenth page of his daily newspaper while sitting at his desk in the library of his Fifth Avenue penthouse apartment—a rebuttal amusing to write but which would neither be published nor read by anyone other than himself.
And so you passed judgement on me, Solomon, and required the angel Raphael to bind me unto exile from Egypt, when in truth you are nothing but a hypocrite for questioning my actions. Afore you were no stranger to the despoiling of virgins yourself with seven hundred wives and three hundred concubines—many of whom were not totally overjoyed at the thought of your royal cock penetrating their intimate place as I well remember…
But still, your body is now dust on the wind, and your soul resides beyond the Pearly Gates of the most achingly boring plane of existence, whilst this Demon has rolled on through the centuries. Newly wedded innocence and virgins juicily mature enough to be of interest to me may be a bit thin on the ground in these modern times, but the adulterers are still going strong…
Although why restrict oneself to only one gender in this day and age, is what I say? I am called Asmodeus among mortals, and my business is an all-inclusive equal opportunities operation now.

The Evernighties Writing Challenge - Week 43

I must say, when it comes to apps, I'm very boring. I don't play phone games, so I mostly dither between my social media platforms. The ones I use most often are Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. And each of these platforms have very different tones.
On Facebook I promote my stories and support other authors. I like to post jokes and root for my favorite sports teams: The Vegas Golden Knights and the St. Louis Cardinals. Be sure to friend me to stay up to date on all the write as well as my blogs. This month I've been posting all types of paranormal stories so you can go back and read interviews from many different, wonderful authors.
On Instagram, I post a lot of personal photos, as well as my book covers. I also support my son, who a fantastic artist, and loves the horror genre. His goal is to be a game designer one day.
On Twitter...well, that's a little different story. I do promote my books, other authors, as well other various things, and sometimes I can't help but post political stuff. Not a lot, because I try not to mix my beliefs with my public image, but fair warning because sometimes I'm moved beyond words.
If you wish to follow me on any of my social media sites, follow the links below. And be sure to read the other authors in the Evernight Writing Challenge!

A Vampire's Cure in Sandra Carmel's DISCOVER (up for Pre-Order!)
When a personal assistant’s perfect life is shattered by a forty-year-old secret, will she be able to pick up the pieces and resurrect her world?
1. Tell us about the world your novel is set in.
Discover is all about two warring vampire clans – the Violets (they have dark hair and violet-toned eyes) and the Jades (they have fair hair and jade-toned eyes) – and them trying to blend into human society and avoid capture by a cutting-edge, human-run organization called Sub Rosa. The story takes place in Norway and Australia.
2. What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
Humans capture vampires, experiment on them and try to eradicate the vampire gene. The more vampire genetics, the more white blood cells a vampire has, which means he/she looks paler, heals better and has less tolerance to sunlight. The cure for vampirism is discovered.
3. Is this book part of a series?
Yes. Discover is book two of The Cure trilogy.
4. Did you use any historical facts in your book?
I reference the Second World War and links to the Nazi experimentations.
5. Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
I’ve written a steamy time travel, paranormal romance novella called Natural Awakening but other than that, I don’t have any other plans to write more paranormal stories at this stage. All my other ideas have been steamy contemporary romance with a BDSM and/or menage flavor.
6. What are your upcoming projects?
I’m currently editing Reckoning, book three of the trilogy!
Blurb
Recalling the past is the only way to repair the future…
For Sub Rosa personal assistant, Eden Freberg, kissing men is like making out with a mannequin—cold, lifeless, disconnected. That is, until she meets alluring geneticist, Rick Hartman. From their first touch, they connect like long lost lovers, fitting together like missing pieces of a puzzle.
Eden is on an express train to beyond-this-world bliss—married, and with twins in less than a year—until Rick derails their perfect life, revealing corruption at the heart of Sub Rosa. The transnational corporation plans to wipe the Jade and Violet vampire clans from existence, even though they pose no significant threat to humans. And Rick’s determined to make things right.
But that’s not the only problem.
On their journey of discovery, Eden and Rick unearth a forty-year-old secret that shatters their identities and threatens their lives. Will their pasts catch up to them before Rick has a chance to gain retribution?

First Book in the My Boyfriend Is...Series by Elizabeth Monvey!

1) Tell us about the world your novel set in.
My Werewolf Boyfriend is a stand-alone story with a HEA, set in a series of supernatural stories featuring men who will do anything to save or help the man they love. In this book, Aaron and Tony are in a relationship and everything is going wonderful…except Tony leaves once a month and shuts Aaron out. When he follows Tony, he learns about the werewolf world.
2) What is your favorite type of Paranormal story to read?
It doesn’t really matter as long as it’s good writing with a HEA.
3) Is this book part of a series?
Yes, the My Boyfriend Is… series. Currently, there are five published stories: My Vampire Boyfriend, My Alien Boyfriend, My Ghostly Boyfriend, My Pregnant Boyfriend, and of course, this one, My Werewolf Boyfriend. I do have another coming out soon, titled My Incubus Boyfriend.
4) Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Yes! Along with seeing a UFO (which is recorded with MUFON), I lived in a haunted house. I do believe there is a world beyond our senses, whether that is parallel worlds or other dimensions…I guess I won’t know for sure until I cross over the veil.
5) Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
Yes. I’m currently working on a project with Jacey Holbrand, the Project Mars series. It has two books published and we have another two planned. I’m afraid I’m the weak link in the writing. I have a day job that prevents me from writing a lot.
6) What are your upcoming projects?
Like I mentioned earlier, I have another book in the My Boyfriend Is… series, titled My Incubus Boyfriend, coming out hopefully before the end of the year. I have a few more planned for 2020. I’m also working on the Project Mars Series. After they are all written, well, I’ll consult my muse.

Aaron and Tony’s relationship is going strong after almost a year, except for once a month when Tony has to return home to check on his uncle. Aaron feels slighted because he’s never included, so he decides to take matters into his own hands and follow Tony.
Tony Lykes can’t tell the love of his life that he’s descended from a long line of werewolves. But when Aaron shows up in the middle of a werewolf battle, he’s sentenced to death in an effort to keep the werewolf pack a secret.
Now Tony, who is an enforcer of his pack, has to make the decision of upholding the werewolf law or defying protocol and customs to turn his very human mate.

You'll Clap for this Fairy by Ellen Mint!
One hot lumberjack, a rustic cabin in the woods, whipped cream and lattes, princes, magic, and fairy wings. This is not the vacation I wanted, but it might be the one I need.
1) Tell us about the world your novel set in.
What if everything we love about autumn—the leaves changing, the crunchy apples, the crisp nights, and the warm fires—were brought about by a fairy realm? It exists both within the same earth as our world and in a different dimension entirely. In it, the trees and festive gourds are gigantic—some reaching the size of a library—but the fairies are human sized. They all have pretty wings that shed glitter and glow. In the story, there’s a color change ceremony where all of the fairies become a bright red and pass that through the trees to change the leaves.
2) What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
I have the various seasons at a literal war. As Autumn is trapped between Summer and Winter, it is constantly having to fend off the encroaching attacks to their domain from both heat and cold. Which makes the prince being tricked into falling for a Winter Fairy that kingdom shaking.
3) What is your favorite type of Paranormal story to read?
I like the ones that dig up obscure monsters and tales, and weave something new with them. There are so many wacky and strange folklores across the globe and I love learning about them.
4) Is this book part of a series?
Yes, called Holidays of Love. It started with Gettin’ Lucky, which is free and involves a man with a lucky coin who might be a secret leprechaun. Each book is a standalone romance that combines a holiday with a sexy paranormal man who sweeps a woman off her feet.
5) Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
I have an idea for what to do to celebrate Pi Day, as well as Arbor Day (I’m from Nebraska where we created the tree planting holiday). I also have another series called Wild Menage. The first book is about two hot mermen that rescue a woman from a forced marriage. Reefcake is already out. The second in the series will involve viking werewolves and I can’t wait to write it.
6) What are your upcoming projects?
A short story about a woman who gets a gift on her birthday that turns out to be her own, personal incubus. And on the Contemporary spectrum, I hope to write a modern gender flipped Sense & Sensibility for NaNoWriMo. Fingers crossed.

After a broken heart, I had to get away from the city. Escaping to a cabin in the woods deep into autumn sounded perfect. Peace. Solitude. Just me, my books, and my coffee fix. Next thing I know a gorgeous man chainsawing downed trees is sweeping me off my feet.
Literally, as it turns out he’s a fairy. Not just any fairy either. No, he’s a freaking Prince in exile.
Now I’m trapped in the kingdom of the autumn fairies while assassins lurk in every shadow. Every day Scott, who rose to fill in for the ill King, slips further from me. Time is ticking and soon I’ll have to return home. The question is will the once-disgraced Prince, sweet as caramel and sinful as cinnamon, come with me.
Scott
There are few regrets I wear harder in my heart than what led me to abandon my throne, my people, my kingdom. When I was banished to the human realm, I thought to live out my days protecting the forests. That changed the day this breathtaking human in leggings approached me.
In her, I found that which I thought was lost forever, home. It doesn’t hurt that she’s got a body worthy of worship either.
I never anticipated a return to my kingdom, much less dragging a human with me. Now, I have an opportunity to regain everything I lost. But, after all this time I find myself wondering if being king of the autumn fairies is what I truly want or if my heart aches for another.
This novel is a celebration of all things autumn. Grab a blanket, pour yourself a warm drink, and snuggle by the fire to fall in love.

The Final Book in the Tribal Spirits Series by Katherine McIntyre!

1) Tell us about the world your novel set in (eg: witches, ghosts, creature, etc).
My novel is set in a world where shifters, shamans, and humans all coexist, though not without their own set of complications and politics. The main setting for this series is around Ricketts Glen in Pennsylvania, a heavily wooded area with a lot of waterfalls. I felt like it’d be the perfect setting for shifters, because there’d be a lot of room to run free.
2) What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
When I set about to writing a shifter series, I wanted to make sure there were elements to set it apart from the typical shifter tales. One thing that influenced the world was the inclusion of shamans, especially that they’re the origin of the shifters. In the Tribal Spirits universe, shamanic magic is what first created the shifters, when the shamans bound Great Spirits to humans. These Great Spirits continue to be an integral part of the world, because the governing force in the shifters, the Tribe members, are bonded to those same Great Spirits by way of shamanic ritual. This gives them special abilities like compulsion over other shifters as well as elemental magic at their disposal.
3) What is your favorite type of Paranormal story to read?
My favorite paranormal stories usually involve vampires and shifters, though I’ve fallen for a few with multi-faceted worlds including witches, fae, etc. With urban fantasy and paranormal romance, while I enjoy the singular paranormal elements, I feel more drawn to ones that explore multiple different types, which creates a more varied and interesting world.
4) Is this book part of a series?
It’s book five, the final one in the Tribal Spirits series!
5) Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
I do believe in the paranormal—at least ghosts. When I was in college, we used to go ghost hunting to all the local haunts (pun intended) around the town, and there were a lot of creepy occurrences and even a few sightings when we went. Pennsylvania’s rife with ghosts, and our area had several big urban legends like the Gates of Hell, and the hanging in the Twin Tunnels.
6) Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
I’m currently continuing my fae rockstar romance series, but I also hope down the line to try my hand at a vampire novel, or something involving ghost hunting—I think both would be fun.
7) What are your upcoming projects?
Apart from the next book in my fae rockstar romance series, Discord’s Desire, I’m heading into contemporary romance for a spell. First, I’ve got a new contemporary romance series, The Eros Tales, all loosely based upon Greek myths, and then I also have a new series I’m starting out with called Dungeons and Dating, which revolves around the owners of a board game café!

The sparks of Ally and Drew’s old relationship ignite, but their broken pasts and a final fight against Mackey Kendricks threaten any hope of a future.
After Drew fell in with the Landsliders and destroyed his former pack, forgiveness isn’t something he deserves. However, no matter how hard the Tribe has tried, Mackey Kendricks can’t be stopped. So when they narrow down the vicinity of the monster’s hidden lair, the Tribe calls upon him again, this time for one of the most dangerous hunts—a recon mission to find the exact location.
However, when his former flame Ally signs on as the other member of the team, their attempts at avoiding each other crumble to the ground. No matter how hard they both try and no matter how many times they’ve walked away, the flame has never extinguished between them. This time, Drew’s fought for his redemption, changed for the better, and the relationship that blooms between them, for once, might stand a chance.
All they have to do is survive the fight against the biggest, baddest shifter on the East Coast.

Excerpt:
Thanks, sweetheart.
Ally paused in the middle of brushing her teeth as bile rose in her throat. Sweat pricked her temple and she gagged the peppermint toothpaste into the sink. Mere minutes in Mackey Kendricks’ presence and he haunted her nightmares again and again. And now she was heading out to stalk the beast to his own den.
A knock sounded on her front door.
Ally sagged over her sink, digging her palms into the cool porcelain. She knew who waited on the other side. Her heart lurched in response, a reflex she couldn’t help whenever he was in proximity. If she was going to be spending the next stretch of days up close and personal with Drew Williams, then Ally needed to strap on Kevlar, because he infected her like a computer virus, scrambling her mind and heart every time. The idea that she had gotten tangled up over her ex-boyfriend was cute—their mess traveled down to the roots.
They might’ve kept it a secret from their packs and families, but Drew Williams was her mate.
Ally tugged her freshly highlighted hair back into a ponytail and clapped a hand on her scarred thigh as a reminder. Drew had changed, and so had she. They weren’t the same people they’d been two years ago before she’d dumped him. Before Drew had joined up with the enemy and split their pack apart.
The knock sounded on her door again.
Ally splashed icy water on her face and headed out of the bathroom. Her pulse pounded in double time when she approached. Nerves over the mission, obviously. She was two steps from the door when it creaked open on its own.
“We don’t have the thousand years necessary for you to finish getting ready.” Drew’s droll voice echoed through the house as he strode inside. The familiar tone made her bare her teeth on instinct while her mountain lion lunged in her chest.
“Try an ounce of patience, Williams,” she responded through gritted teeth. “Not even asking for an average amount. An ounce.”
Drew shut the door behind him and turned to face her. A breath hitched in her throat at the full sight of him. Even though he was a bad decision in human form, Drew’s looks placed him in Hollywood territory. He had a jawline sharp enough to slice, an arrogant nose that fit him all too well, and tan skin that glowed like he’d spent days basking in the summer sun even though early spring had just arrived. His hair, long enough to tug, gleamed like molten gold and the wicked arc of his eyebrows complemented his mocking smile.
“Well, we both know I’m not average in anything—even my lack of patience,” Drew drawled, hooking his thumbs through his belt loops. He leaned against the wall.
“Excuse me while I eyeroll myself into a seizure,” Ally shot back. She dipped down to snag her blue tote from beside the couch. Even after living here a couple of months, she thought of this place as Lana’s, not hers. Probably because her bestie’s name was still on the deed—Ally just acted as caretaker for the cheap rent. Besides, any day now, Lana and her fearsome Tribe mate would be returning for a temporary stay to make this house comfortably crowded.
Ally sucked in a breath and made her way to the door. She’d had to argue with Dax for days to take this recon assignment even though the prospect terrified her. But her alpha’s mate, Sierra, was due in less than a month with the first cub or pup between the united Red Rock and Silver Springs packs. Dax needed to be there for the birth of his kid. Ally wouldn’t budge on that one.
“Let’s get this misery tour on the road,” Ally said, flicking off the lights. She followed Drew out to the landing and locked up behind her.
By the time she’d spun around, Drew had slipped his aviators on and sauntered toward his Cadillac. “I’m driving,” he called.
Cocky asshole.
