New Release Saturday! "Untraceable" by Beth D. Carter

Book Two in the World of Danger series!

Mae Sawyer has a huge crush on her boss, JD Harlan, but he doesn’t even know she exists. She blends into the background of her data entry job, living for glimpses of him walking through the office. Then one night, everything changes. While working late, she’s caught up in a plot to kidnap him…and gets taken as well.
They wake up in an underground bunker. No electricity. No way to be traced. Alone, they have to rely on each other to stay strong until their captor decides their fate. Danger lurks outside the bunker, waiting for a moment of vengeance.
How would I describe Joseph David Harlan the Second?
I equate him to Tony Stark, in the fact that his world relies on technology. He had the daunting task of taking over a defunct black-ops section of the government and turning it into a securities company, and he's done that very successfully. The man is rich and driven, but married to his work. His weekend pleasures are with women he doesn't know or care about. All of that changes, however, when he's kidnapped and thrown into an antiquated bunker with Mae Sawyer. Suddenly, he can't hack his way out of a situation, relying on batteries to keep both of them out of the dark. He has to come to terms with a lot of things, and luckily, he has Mae to help him.

Author Info: I like writing about the very ordinary girl thrust into extraordinary circumstances, so my heroines will probably never be lawyers, doctors or corporate highrollers.  I try to write characters who aren't cookie cutters and push myself to write complicated situations that I have no idea how to resolve, forcing me to think outside the box.  I love writing characters who are real, complex and full of flaws, heroes and heroines who find redemption through love. I love to hear from readers so I’ve made it really easy to find me on the web: https://twitter.com/BethDCarter

Ghostly Love from C.R. Moss!

      1)      Tell us about the world your novel set in
It’s set in today’s world but deals with a ghost, a familiar in the form of a black cat, and body transference.

      2)      What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
It’s a mix of existing in the current time, time travel, and a dream world. Plus, people think the cat can talk to them.

      3)      Is this book part of a series?
Yes. It’s the first of three books in the Raritan Manor Ranch series. The other two are Journey Across Time and A Wish Across Time.

     4)      Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Yes, I do believe in the paranormal. I’ve also had experiences and was with someone when we both experienced the same thing (seeing a ghost), so I know I wasn’t going crazy. ;) I’m also a bit psychic—empathic, clairaudient, and clairsentient for the most part—and have been able to sense when deaths are going to occur. Fun, eh?

      5)      Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
Most definitely. See my answer in the next question. :)

     6)      What are your upcoming projects?
I’ve had the rights of several books reverted to me, some of which already had a paranormal slant to them (ghosts/time travel) and some other which I’m going to convert into paranormal stories. They’re all going to be taking place on a “new” ranch, based off the location I had the paranormal experience in I mentioned above. Not sure exactly when they’ll be done and available but keep posted to my blog for details!

Dream Across Time by C.R. Moss

A woman in love. A ghost in need. A man possessed.
Evelyn Sheridan is in love with Raritan Manor Ranch’s resident ghost, Quinn, but can only experience his embrace in her dreams.
Quinn VanAlder, who doesn’t realize he’s a ghost, loves Eve and wishes she’d stop saying they can’t be together.
While at the ranch, Alex VanAlder arrives for a visit, and Evelyn’s hopes rise. Perhaps she will be able to have a real relationship after all. Alex, though, has no interest in Evelyn. Yet, every time the house cat, Myrddin, comes around, Alex feels like a man possessed and wants Eve with a passion.
Caught between loving a ghost and putting up with a man who can’t make up his mind, Evelyn is at a loss.
Can the magic of the ranch help Evelyn to stop being caught between two worlds?

PG-13 Excerpt:

He stood an inch before her. She breathed in his musky, masculine scent. Her clothes tightened and scratched against her sensitive skin. Though under a warm sun, a shiver raked her body. How could a man rob her of control, of her senses?
Quinn placed his hands on the building, trapping her between his arms. “Tell me,” his husky voice whispered in her ear. “What has gotten you so bothered you think you are going crazy?”
The heat radiating between their close bodies sent ripples of desire through her. She shuddered.
“Well?”
“You,” she whispered in return, not meeting his gaze. “These dreams. They’re interrupting my life. I’m letting my relationship with you interfere with everything I do when I’m awake. Any good psychiatrist would have a field day with me.” Evelyn paused, took a deep breath to calm her excited body.
Since he towered over her by at least a foot, she talked to his chest. The white shirt, pulled taut over his front, showed the outlines of his well-defined muscles. She wanted to touch them. Evelyn clenched her fists at her sides, taking in another deep breath, and looked up. “It’s gotten to the point where Julie thinks I’m in love—”
“Are you?” Quinn interrupted, a hint of pleading tainted his voice.
His question caught her off guard. She hadn’t thought about the possibility of love, of discussing their feelings for each other. She didn’t answer, and her lack of response brought an expression of sadness to Quinn’s features. She cared for him, but love? How could she love someone who wasn’t real, someone who existed before her birth? Someone who’s a ghost?
Quinn turned his back to her. “I thought… never mind.”
The misery in his voice pinged at her soul. “Quinn.” She put a hand on his shoulder to halt him from leaving. “I’m sorry. I can’t love you. You’re not real.”
His body tensed beneath her fingers. Quinn turned back to her and her hand fell to his chest. He held it there. “Damn it, Evelyn. Stop talking nonsense. I am real.”
She couldn’t deny that fact. His hands were warm. His heart beat strong and steady. Her eyes widened and she gazed up into his passion-filled gaze. She wished she wasn’t dreaming.
“Let me show you how real I am.” His lips descended onto hers.

Bio:

Hi everyone, my name is Casey, and I write under the names C.R. Moss for erotic and mainstream romance and Casey Moss for mainstream dark fiction (horror, suspense, urban fantasy) and sometimes the stories have an erotic flare to them. My professional bio for C.R.: An eccentric and eclectic writer, C.R. Moss pens stories for the mainstream and erotic romance markets, giving readers a choice of sweet, savory or spicy reads, usually within a sub-genre or two — paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy, time travel, or western flare. The bio for my other persona: Casey Moss delves into the darker aspects of life in her writing, sometimes basing the stories on reality, sometimes on myth. No matter the path, her stories will take you on a journey from the light-hearted paranormal to dark things unspeakable. What waits around the corner? Come explore…

Evernighties Writing Challenge - Week 40

What I Wear When I Write

What a very provocative question! I'd love to be all Danielle Steel and say flowing dressing gown, diamonds and tiara, but alas I can not. Actually, I don't think Danielle Steel ever said that either but I've always pictured her as writing like that. She fits into that same category of Jackie Collins and Kathleen Woodiwiss. I may never had read them, but I grew up with them as the Goddesses of Romance.

Getting back to the question at hand....

I'm usually wearing workout clothes, although I very rarely work out. I love those leggings with pockets. Why the hell weren't they invented twenty years ago?? OMG! I don't use a purse, only a little wallet, and the pockets hold that, chapstick and my cell, which is all I need. These leggings have seriously reinvented my life. Amazing how one little thing, like pockets, can change everything.

Anyway...

If I'm not working, I usually head over to a coffee house after dropping my son off to school, and write. Today I chose to come home, so I'm wearing capris. If I'm not wearing my favorite leggings, I usually wear them. I don't like shorts because they bunch up between my thighs. Not only a horrible sight but damn uncomfortable.

TMI?....

What did you expect from a question like this?

**Make sure to check out the others in the Evernighties Writing Challenge this week!

Readers Choice Winner Casey Moss Showcases her Dystopian New World Series!

      1)      Tell us about the world your novel set in.
This story (series) follows the lives of people from different biker clans in a dystopian society on Earth and in alternate realms, and how they deal with life and love. It’s sci-fi-ish/urban fantasy/paranormal.

      2)     Is this book part of a series?
Yes. Transcending Fire is supposed to be the first story in the New World Bikers series. I have two other books in outline form but life and projects under a secret pen name of mine have taken precedence, so I haven’t been able to do much with the rest of the series yet.
         3)     Any deleted scenes you wished you had kept in?
Yes. There’s a scene with two of the bad guys and a minor character (whom I’m hoping to bring back in another story) that was on the rough side, and the editor/publisher had me re-write it to make it tamer. I liked the original version.
     4)     Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
I’m hoping to. I’d like to finish out this series and work on some erotic horror stories that I had out once upon a time and have gotten the rights back on that I’d like to re-release someday.

BLURB
Hunter Macario wants one thing—a place to belong. When given an opportunity to solidify his position in the motorcycle club, Devil’s Thunder, he takes it.
Dragon’s Clan member, Safaia King, believes she’s found the man from her people’s legend and her dreams. She has one goal, even if he’s in a rival club—to make Hunter hers and keep him safe so he can fulfill their destiny.
After Hunter makes a huge mistake, he’s sent to where Safaia lives—an alternate universe called The Den. In this new world, sex, battles, and secrets abound. Hunter must survive The Den to right some wrongs or else he could lose everything he’s ever gained, including his home and Safaia’s love.

PG-13 EXCERPT
The flames’ mesmerizing dance, the macabre song created by the crackles and pops, and the smell of death kept Hunter frozen to his spot. He wanted to help, knew he should pick up a bucketful of water or a hose and join the fray, but his immobile legs wouldn’t budge no matter the commands his brain sent them.
There must be something in the smoke making me high. Either I really can’t move, or I’m losing my fucking marbles.
He tried again to step forward, but still couldn’t.
Ah, shit. I’m dreaming. Must be it. At least I hope that’s it.
As if in answer to his thoughts, the world around him seemed to slow, become more surreal than it already was. The noises minimized into silence, yet people still rushed around him as if he were invisible, their mouths moving without voices emanating from them.
Straight ahead, Hunter caught glimpses of a woman appearing and disappearing amongst the club members running back and forth in front of her. The ebony-haired beauty didn’t move. She stood there with a smile curling her lips.
A hot, lusty bolt of desire surged straight to his cock. Yet beneath the instantaneous sensation lay something deeper. Dreaming or not, Hunter couldn’t quite put his finger on what he felt, but words like “connection” and “destiny” wisped across his mind.
Their gazes locked. The lady winked and disappeared.
The compound, except for the fire, was as it should be—club house, church, garage, barracks, factory, and some ancillary buildings—but the sky wasn’t gray. The constant hum from all the robotics and other machinery functioning in the city wasn’t present. He’d grown so accustomed to the white noise, the sudden silence almost hurt.
Hunter shook his head, ran his palm over his face. Nothing seemed right anymore. The sky. The sounds. Even the air he breathed was different—lighter … less polluted.
No one came up to him to check on him. Nobody questioned why he wasn’t helping.
They all acted like he didn’t exist.
Maybe I really don’t exist here. Maybe I’m still back in one of those foster homes and my life in Vegas has only been a fanciful dream.
Nah. I’ve gotta be dreaming. I gotta
“Wake up, Hunter.”
A weight bore down on Hunter’s shoulder, gripping his muscles like a pneumatic clamp.
Even in a hazy state of mind, his instincts took over. Years of martial arts training had him shrugging out of the hold and spinning into a neutral stance, ready to defend and attack if need be. No matter what home he’d ended up in, he had always requested lessons. The type of discipline never mattered. The fact that he was learning a skill and had something of his own no one could take away from him had been all that’d counted.
“Hey, boy.” Screw, an aging man, whose favorite way of dressing his scrawny body happened to be denim overalls, a bandana around his head holding back his stringy gray hair, and nothing else, held up his hands. “You know I’m a lover not a fighter.” He chuckled. “Too old and creaky to scuffle anyhow.”
Hunter blinked. Gone was the blue sky and fire. The mechanized hum had returned as had the obsidian night. He stared at the head mechanic and lowered his arms. Last thing he’d ever want to do was harm the man he viewed as a father figure. “Screw. What? What’s going on?”
“You tell me. You’re the one out here in your birthday suit.”
“Birthday suit?” He glanced down at himself. Sure enough, he stood naked in the middle of the compound. “What the hell?”

Halloween Month starts off with my book "Otherworldly"

My favorite month is upon us!
I've invited many great authors this month to showcase their spooky and out-of-this-world stories, so make sure to check back often to read and discover some awesome books!

I'm starting this off with my own book "Otherworldly". This is an unusual type of book because it's part 1 in a 3 part series, with the ending being a HEA ménage. If you like sassy heroines, two hot men, and some otherworldly mystery, make sure to check out book one in the McKnight, Perth & Daire series!

    1)    Tell us about the world your novel set in.
It’s Ghost Whisperer meets Homicide Hunter. Charlotte is clairvoyant, meaning she can see ghosts. They don’t talk to her, so she has to interpret what they’re showing her in the visions.

    2)    What makes your world/character different from other books in the same genre?
Charlotte can only see murdered spirits, because she’s once been murdered. (And resuscitated, otherwise we wouldn’t be talking about this book!)

    3)    Is this book part of a series?
Yes! In book one, Charlotte meets Detective Jonas Daire. In book two, she reconnects with her ex, Agent Nash McKnight, and in book three, they all learn how to get along. Kind of. Not only do they solve murder cases along the way, the romance between Charlotte and two men are an underlying theme running through them.

    4)    Do you believe in the paranormal? If so, have you ever had a paranormal experience?
Absolutely! I lived in a haunted house. Nothing makes you more of a believer than having things go bump in the night. And just recently, when my husband and I were moving, I walked into my kitchen, opened to the fridge to grab something, and when I closed the door, this tall shadow figure stood there. Full bodied. And I was confused for a moment because my brain tried to figure out if it was my son or my husband (neither I came to find out). We came to believe it was my husband’s brother who had died almost four years ago from cancer, wondering why his picture had been taken down.

    5)    Are you planning on writing more in the paranormal world?
Yes because writing paranormal can free your mind. You’re not stymied by historical facts or contemporary limitations. Plus, I like the spooky stuff!

    6)    What are your upcoming projects?
In 2020 I plan on finishing another Shade book (As Midnight Loves the Moon). It’s not a direct sequel, but set in the same world, featuring a vampire, an angel, and a pissed off wraith hybrid!

Blurb
Charlotte Perth is all about sass because her job reminds her all too well the limits of human life. She’s clairvoyant, but her gift is unique. She can only summon murdered souls and interprets the visions they send her. When she’s hired by a wealthy woman to determine the fate of her great-nephew, little does Charlotte realize this is one ghost that refuses to cross over.

Detective Jonas Daire feels Charlotte is a fake, out to swindle money from his rich aunt. When Charlotte proclaims the nephew is not only dead but has been murdered, Jonas feels especially disgusted at Charlotte’s “profession.”

But when his cousin’s body is discovered in the place that she said it would be, with detailed accounts of how he died, he places her under suspicion. Jonas and Charlotte work together to find the killer. As the two grow closer together, another malevolent force won’t stop until the truth is buried…until Charlotte’s ghostly visions are her own.

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - Week 39

My Writing Rituals

I don't have rituals to sit down and write. I try to work whenever my brain is talking to me. I've downloaded a voice recorder to my phone so I can talk into it if I'm driving. I like to sit in a coffee house on my days off (Starbucks is my first choice because they're EVERYWHERE and I have the app to gather points). Sometimes I sit on my couch, sometimes I'm at the table. Sometimes I'm even in my car, waiting to pick up my son at school.

There's no rhyme or reason to my madness.

Although I consider myself a pantser (writing by the seat of my pants), I am very conscious of my characters, deadlines, and where I need them to go to fulfill the idea in my head. I'm REALLY hoping this counts as one of those memory things that help stave off dementia. You know how doctors are like "Do Sudoku to beat memory loss"....if it involves numbers no thanks. :-)

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - Week 38

My Odd/Useless Talent
I'm not quite sure if this is a talent, but I can stop myself hiccupping.

I discovered how to do this a long time ago. I just remember that one day I was hiccupping, and I wanted to stop, so I began to focus on which part of my body was being affected. Obviously,  my diaphragm, so I concentrated on it, and....my hiccupping stopped.

Now, when I start hiccupping, I usually only have one or two before I stop them. But sometimes, I like how they feel so I'll keep doing them.

Is this talent odd? Yes.

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge- Week 37

An Odd Thing I Collect

My mind went into some weird tangent when I read the topic this week. Like eyes of newt and puppy dog tails. Don't ask me why. Perhaps it has something to do with the cold medicine I'm on. My allergies exploded into a head cold and now I can't breathe out of my nose.

Anyway...odd thing I collect....

Rocks. I guess that's the oddest thing. When Mike and I go hiking I come back with a bag of rocks. I like the way they look, especially the ones that have shiny particles in them. I really like the ones where the iron has left round red spots from the past, when they were so hot that the iron ore bubbled up to form what looks like an outbreak of small pox .There are round red dots all over the stone.

You never know, one day I may find an uncut diamond. Or a rare fossil.

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - Week 36

My Secret Snack
You may or may not believe this, but I don't usually snack.

Sure, sometimes I grab a few cookies after dinner. Or a piece of fruit. Chips every once in awhile. But nothing on a consistence basis. So since I'm completely boring on this particular challenge, I'll talk about my secret writing habit...only it's not so secret.

My favorite place to go when I write is to a coffee house, and usually it's Starbucks. Please no political issues, I go there because there happens to be one on every block, lots of tables, free wifi and great tea or coffee. Sure the prices are a little high, but I use their app to get points for free stuff. On my days off work, I drop my son off at school and then head to a Starbucks and write for hours. It helps me focus on what's on the page.
