Flashback Friday...In A Chord (MFM menage romance)

Keaton Gates and Ashland Lance are lovers and musicians in a band called Endymion. Keaton believes there is something missing, not only from the sound of their music, but also in their lives. When he hears Momo Willows singing Endymion’s signature song, he knows she’s the muse he’s been waiting for.

At first, Ash Lance is jealous of the new girl in Keaton’s life until he meets her. Momo is unlike anyone he’s ever met and they soon discover that they connect on many levels. But he’s reluctant to take her away from Keaton just as Momo refuses to come between them.

Keaton is quick to assure them he wants all three of them to learn to be in a ménage relationship, but as they learn how to live and love together, another threat is moving between them, threatening to take Momo away….forever.

“Keaton, Momo and I…we, um, kissed.”He saw Keaton shoot a look at Momo, then down at her hand on his knee, then back to Ash. “What?”“Keaton,” Momo murmured, shame shining on her face. “It just happened and I’m so sorry. There’s something tangible between he and I, just like I felt toward you, and that’s why I don’t think I can be with you—”“She knows about us,” Ash interrupted her, picking up her hand. He saw Keaton’s gaze follow the gesture. “She doesn’t want to get between us.”“What?” Keaton said again, his tone going a bit deeper.“She figured it out but it felt right to tell her.” He ran an agitated hand through his hair. Momo took her hand back and placed it in her lap. “Keaton, man, I don’t know what to say.”He sat silent for a moment, obviously thinking things over. “Is that why you tried to bail earlier?”She nodded.“Is that all you did? Just kiss?”“Yeah. That’s it, I swear. I mean, I wanted to do more, but I know she’s your girl—”“Ash, it’s okay.”Ash waited because he knew something more had to be coming. If Keaton were to tell him to stand and take a punch, he would be jumping up and bracing himself.“No, Ash, it’s really okay,” Keaton assured him.Ash saw the surprise he felt mirrored on Momo’s face. Keaton just smiled at them.“For a while I knew that something was missing in our lives,” Keaton continued. “Not between you and me because I love you, you know, but I knew there was something out of place. I just didn’t know what, and then, when I heard Momo sing, when I talked to her and heard her passion for our music, it all kind of clicked.”“What clicked?”“That missing element in our music, in our lives, was her.”

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - Week 16

Online Shopping or Go to Stores?
For every day things, like groceries?

Go to stores.

But to get the hard-to-find items, I prefer to shop online. Like vitamins. My doctor wanted me to take fish oil for high triglycerides, but I can't stand the fishy after-taste. Even the so-called "burb free" ones have a bad taste. Then I discovered that hemp oil caps have just as much good omega oil, so I switched over. I researched and found a hemp oil capsule I really like and I order that every three months. Between that and Red Yeast Rice capsules, my cholesterol and triglycerides have gone significantly down.

Anyway, the whole purpose of that diatribe was to say that you can't find hemp oil capsules at Walgreens, so I order online.

I do almost all my Christmas shopping online.

Yes, I know, small business and all that, but unfortunately, the way of the future isn't small business. It's not even big business like WalMart. It's going to be online shopping. I work in retail and our store has a tremendously high rate of theft it's ridculous. I'm afraid stuff like that, on top of high overhead, will be what drives retail stores right out the door.

New Release by CR Moss!

Thank you for having me on your blog! I’m happy to share with you and your readers my latest release. First is some information about the series and the book…

About the Series Nestled within the hills of central Texas is a special ranch. A place that defies the laws of physics—that of time, space, and dimensions. It’s a place where normal morphs with the paranormal and supernatural. A place that seems to know what a person’s true desires and needs are, and then allows the right circumstances to occur to fulfill those wishes. Welcome to the Gateway Ranch. Your gateway to all things possible…

Q&A

Q) Is your book part of a series?  If so, can you tell us about it?

~ The inspiration for the Gateway Ranch series stemmed from a trip Jo & I went on where we stayed on a working ranch. There were ranchers/cowboys, horses, trail rides, campfires, cattle, and food cooked outside. Our muses started asking, "What if?" When we returned home with a handful of ideas, we went to Austyn and said, "Guess what we're going to write about." From there we started brainstorming and writing stories. Granted, that took place a decade ago and the stories and series have morphed since then. My first book, To Be Yours, had been previously published under the title Wild West Weekend, but I explained the changes in a letter in the book and why it’s more like new than old. To Be His had also been previously published as, Keep You Safe, for a short time in a multi-author anthology, but as I did with the first book, I reworked TBH to fit the Gateway Ranch world. Austyn Sherrie, Johanna Riley, and I also made the ranch have a supernatural aspect to it so we could add our own spins to our own stories that take place at the GR. More information can be found here: https://threeflamespublishing.com/books/gateway-ranch-series/

Q) What type of research did you do for your book?

~ Like I mentioned in the other question, some of our inspiration stemmed from a trip Jo & I went on where we stayed on a working ranch, so it was first-hand info. Then there were a lot of google searches in regard to the abuse and police aspect.

Q) Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

~ Each book in this series should be able to stand on its own, but I am including subtle connections between each just because the stories are taking place at the same location and around the same time period.

Q) What are your upcoming projects?

~ My next book, To Be Mine, will be another republish of a story I’d written ages ago. I’m taking out the northeast references and setting it in the Gateway world. TBM will be another Contemporary Romantic Suspense. After that, I’ll put out two time travels and some chick lit stories set in the ranch world. One of the time travels will be a revamp of a previously published story called Wild West Hauntings and be like new. Lots to look forward to in this series!

About the Book

To Be His by C.R. MossI’m Professor Arianna Perez, and I’ve been asked if I’ll ever trust, let alone love, another man again. After dumping an abusive boyfriend, I doubted I would. At least, that’s how I felt until fate had sexy wrangler, Gavin Bishop, reappearing in my life in a way I never expected.
Against my better judgement, I fell hard for the cowboy, believing everything he said, including how he wanted to treat me like a queen and keep me safe. Little did I know, though, that the circumstances that brought us together could also tear us apart…And possibly claim my life.
Now a peek into the story…

Excerpt for To Be His by C.R. Moss
Smiling, I studied him some more. Every time I looked at his chiseled chest and the strip of hair going in a line from his belly button to a spot hidden by his jeans, my heart fluttered. Sure, I’d seen a lot of him in class, but this was just the two of us.
This was intimate.
I wanted to run my fingers along his skin. Play with the patch of hair. See where my caresses would lead to. I wanted to create with him. I’d felt this way with other boyfriends, even Chad, but never had the urge been so strong. Nor had I been able to gather the courage to do anything about it in the past. Except once. When my relationship with Chad had started imploding, a friend of mine gave me an art kit, one designed to help couples grow closer to each other. I’d shown it to Chad. He’d then called the gift, my idea, and me stupid, telling me I must be an idiot to think he’d be interested in such a “childish, preposterous activity.” Asking him if he thought my career were those things, as well, spurred on a multi-hour argument that ended with him leaving and not returning for two nights. When he’d finally come home, he’d seemed remorseful and promised to do better by me. He had, too. For a couple of weeks. But we never had used the present.
Now would be a good time to make some new memories surrounding those art supplies. After all, I seemed to have a very willing participant, who happened to be gorgeous in my opinion, beautifully proportioned in a trim, well-toned way, and desired little ol’ me. Gavin wanted me, had admitted to dreaming and fantasizing about me. Despite my concerns about our ages and how we used to know each other, I realized I felt the same about him. I hungered for him.
“God, I want to paint you,” the awed words fell from my mouth before I could stop them.
“Thought that’s what we’re doing,” Gavin responded.
Clearing my throat, I jerked my attention from him, went to my paints, and faked looking for one. “Well, yes, but…” Spit it out, girl. Be brave. Have some fun. Gathering my resolve, I continued, “I want to get out a gift a friend of mine had given me a while back. It contains non-toxic paints. This way I can paint you. Use you as both palette and canvas. And, if you’re up for it, you can paint me.” An impish grin stretched his face. “Sounds interesting. What do we need to do?”

Blast from the Past...A Cold Breath by Elizabeth Monvey

The world has changed. Almost two years after the zombie plague destroyed civilization, the last of mankind is trying to hold on. Remy lives with his father inside the walls of a safe haven, until the night they're attacked by a swarm of walking dead. But when help arrives, he's horrified to discover the haven has been targeted to be destroyed—infected or not.

Atticus left his home when his lover was bit. Mourning the loss, he looks for something to keep him going. To not give up. He may have stumbled into the wrong group, but he can’t hurt innocents.

They find each other in the middle of an apocalypse, and although Remy might be wary of the handsome loner, he realizes Atticus might just be the person he needs to stay safe.

If only he didn’t feel so attracted to the man.

Q & A

      1.       Did you plot this book out or write wherever an idea took you?
This was definitely one of those books that came one scene at a time. I didn’t have a plot, other than I wanted to write a zombie apocalypse set in the mountains.

            2.       What was your hardest scene to write in this book?
I think the beginning, setting up the world. Once I got my heroes into the mountain it practically wrote itself.

            3.       Since the publication, what would you say has improved in your writing?
I hope being more active in my writing voice, versus passive writing. It’s sometimes very hard because we tend to write how we talk.

      4.       Do you believe a book cover plays an important role in the selling process?
Yes, very much! I love this cover, with the water in the mountains. The coloring of the cover gives a sense of cold breath, like the title, with the muted blues and greys.  The artist did a fantastic job.

      5.       Any advice you would like to give to your younger self?
Just keep writing. Write, write, write.

EXCERPT
“Who do you think he was?” he asked.

“What?”

“The zombie that almost made me lunch. Who do you think he was that he ended up in a closet like that?”

“I don’t know,” Atticus replied. “Does it matter?”

“Yeah. I think it does.”

“Why?”

“Because I bet he never thought he’d end up stuck in a closet and forgotten about. Just like we can’t imagine where we’ll be when our time comes. I think what keeps us from becoming completely apathetic is knowing who we were and remembering that we were once human.”

“Isn’t dead just … dead?”

“But he had a name. A family. Friends.”

“Maybe he was bit, and his friends put him in the closet to protect themselves before locking up and walking away. If that’s the case, they weren’t really friends because they didn’t put him out of his misery. They left him to turn.”

“Or they cared too much and couldn’t do it.”

Atticus pursed his lips. “Sentiments get you killed in this world.”

“So, you care for no one? For nothing?”

“I care about myself.”

Remy frowned because his statement didn’t jive with his actions. “If you’re still around if I’m ever bit, will you put me out of my misery? I don’t want to be one of them.”

“You won’t end up like that.”

“You don’t know that. Promise me and I’ll promise you the same. If you get bit, I’ll give you the permanent death.”

“Just stop it!” Atticus shouted, banging his hand on the wheel. “I told you. You won’t end up like that, and I won’t have to do something I don’t want to do. Now just drop the fucking subject, okay?”

“Fine. Whatever.”

New Release from Katherine Wyvern!

Thank you so much for hosting me today with my new release, The Elder Man. This story is very close to my heart, and to my life!

Over two years ago I made a drawing of my favorite model as an antlered forest god.  It sat quietly in my album for almost 12 months, but it kept pushing invisible roots all over my soul, until suddenly last year, this story began to write itself. It was light and sexy and full of humor (poking fun at city people baffled by the countryside is my revenge for how befuddling the city is to me!) but I soon became aware that there was more to it than met the eye.

In fact it became a tapestry of all the things I love most in my life, my barely tamed garden and my woods, my animals, my sculpting and natural building, my simple, off grid lifestyle, and the beauty and antiquity of the Dordogne, the region in SW France where I have been living for almost 10 years. I wanted to give a face to the bone-deep magic that I see and feel in all this.

My forgotten but still powerful forest god is the form I chose to express all that is wondrous, healing and grounding in my life.

Or maybe *he* chose me, and did his own thing. My characters notoriously tend to do that.

I did a number of illustrations, at different times, for this story, and I am delighted that one of them found its way to the cover of the book, thanks to Jay Aheer and Evernight Publishing. You can see them all on my blog, here: https://katherinewyvern.blogspot.com/2020/04/the-art-of-elder-man-coming-tomorrow.html

Q) Please tell us about your book. This is your chance to tell us what made it special for you to write it.

This book is special to me for two reasons. One is that it’s very close to my life. It is very autobiographical. The world where the main character lives, his off-grid property in SW France, is very much like my own, but written big! He’s also a natural builder, like I am, and I was able to pour a lot of personal experience in his work and his art, and his day to day life. It was like writing myself. If I were male, and a god, and immortal, I’d be this.

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - Week 15

Planning a trip itinerary - detailed or fly-by-the-seat of your pants

I would have to say detailed. Sometimes Mike and I go on a day road trip and we don't plan too much, mainly just a destination and then see where the road takes us. But for long trips we definitely plan. At least, he does. He will go online and Priceline hotels, Yelp review places to eat, and map out our journey. However, we stay flexible enough that if we discover something new or fascinating, we'll go explore.
The last big trip we really took was our honeymoon. We went to Arches National Park in Utah. The trip was wonderful and beautiful...and I had an allergic reaction to something blooming. My face swelled up and I was taking antihistamines and using Flonase. Still, we had a great time.
Before that, we went as a family to Great Wolf Lodge in Anaheim California. If you've never been there, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's a water park and hotel all in one, and you never have to leave if you don't want to. My son was 12 when we went, and although he could swim, I am always hesitant about not watching him around water. Shit happens, you know? But there were so many lifeguards, posted everywhere, that I felt comfortable letting him go off by himself. It was one of the best vacations we ever had.

Wordsmith Wednesday...Females through Romance

I grew up in the Eighties.  A fun time for a teenage girl with the emergence of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper (to name only two of the plethora or female singers).  We piled our hair high and used a can of hairspray a day.  The fashion of dangling earrings as big as dangling bracelets, fishnets under shorts, floppy bows, and large necklaces that said “Boy Toy”.

As a young girl I had such romantic ideas spurred on by the fantastical romance of Harlequin Present and LoveSpell novels.  Books that told of breathless passion between men and women.  I couldn’t wait to grow up and find that kind of love.  I was about twelve when I started writing my own romance novel, longhand of course.  My first typewriter was manual and my best friend was a new invention called White Out.

Females in romance novels back then were girls I could relate to.  Most were secretaries, receptionists, nurses or schoolteachers.  The men were usually wealthy and hard-bitten, softened by love.  They whisk the girl away from her downtrodden job or life and sweep her into future of love, wealth and privilege.

As movies like “Working Girl” swept in a new generation of women’s lib, tastes started to change.  I started to read more stories with stronger females, love that had to be fought for, flawed heroes with emotions.  My perspective on romance changed.  In my twenties I thought I had found my hero, only to be disappointed.  And as my taste in what I read changed, so too did my writing.

Now I prefer flawed characters redeemed through love.  Heroes or heroines who may start out weak and use love to transform themselves.  In my new book, Madness Ends, Kaiya has been defined her whole life by her disability.  And she’s ready to break out of the mold she’s been placed in.  I feel like my whole life has mirrored Kaiya’s, busting away from the small minded town mentality to embrace my own uniqueness.

The role of females in romance and erotic romance has changed significantly since the Seventies and Eighties, and the introduction of e-readers has allowed many fantasies to be explored.  Women are allowed to explore sexual situations once thought taboo, a sort of “burning of the bras” computer style.  And though sometimes I have the hero saving the girl, more than likely I make sure the girl can save herself.

Patricia Bates

Hello!  Thank you so much for visiting Written Butterfly with me today!  It’s such a pleasure to chat with you.  So tell me…
Q) Is your book part of a series?  If so, can you tell us about it?
No, A Hunter’s Desire isn’t part of a series. I thought about it but after I wrote it I figured it wasn’t meant to be. A Hunter’s Desire features small town, rural Saskatchewan, an is a paranormal suspense romance. Though the paranormal aspect is a bit misleading as its about a physical medium and not dragons, shapeshifters, etc.
Q) What was the hardest (or easiest) scene to write?Hmm the hardest scene to write is probably Rebel’s kidnapping scene. Writing it was unique considering I wanted to involve some of the minor characters.
Q) What type of research did you do for your book?
The biggest thing I researched was on being a physical medium. What they do, how they do it, what’s it like. I wanted it to be as authentic as possible.
Q) What made this story special to you? It’s the first story I’ve written under Patricia Bates that features two male characters.
Q) Do you have a favorite book you’ve written?
Master’s Mistress - my first book. A historical romance set in ancient Ireland.
Q) Do you write in a linear fashion or do you jump from scene to scene and then go back and “fill in the blanks”?
I tend to write in a linear fashion but go back and forth with scenes.
Q) What are your upcoming projects?
As Patricia Bates, I have two historicals I’m working on. A romance set in Ancient Rome during the height of the Gladiatorial games and another set in Ancient Ireland featuring the Celts exclusively.
BLURB:

Grissom is a town with dark secrets. When REBEL HUNTER, a paranormal consultant relocates to its outskirts, he unwittingly stumbles upon a mystery decades in the making.  After one of his clients vanishes, Rebel is dragged into the investigation by homicide detective Gideon Palmer.
On a forced vacation, Gideon is in the right place at the wrong time and finds his downtime cut short by the disappearance of a wealthy socialite. As he investigates, he finds himself confronted by a wall of silence. The only bright spot is Rebel Hunter, a man of mystery and danger.
Drawn together, their chemistry is immediate and both men struggle with their emotions as they navigate the dark twists of the case. Can both men face their own ghosts to help find a missing woman before it's too late.

He was big and muscular, and the moment their eyes met something zinged through her body. His horns sat high on his forehead and curled back toward his skull, the tips disappearing into his thick black hair. His blaster was held in his hand but down by his side, and she saw his golden eyes widen slightly as they took in her protective stance. The Alphan man looked first at her and then at the dead Xyran male at her feet.
“You killed him?” he asked in English, his words lightly accented. Goose bumps dusted across her skin as his deep, sensual voice washed over her.
Keirah lifted her chin. “I’d kill any man who meant to hurt me. Or Geoff.”
Again, the Alphan glanced around, lingering a moment on Geoff and the other unconscious men before looking at the women behind her.
“You must have taken him by surprise.”
“He said don’t hesitate. So I didn’t.”
“Have you ever killed a Xyran before?”
“No.” In fact, it almost made her feel sick how easy it was, but she wouldn’t show that weakness in front of him.
He nodded. “What are you doing on this ship?”
“It’s an auction ship,” she said. “There are some buyers willing to pay for a husband and wife.”
One of his eyebrows went up. He pointed to Geoff. “That’s your husband?”
“It is.”
His brow furrowed. “My name is Captain Krig. Commander Jorg sent out a distress call as soon as the Xyrans attacked, and we were on patrol, which is why we got here so quickly. You can put the blaster down now.”
She took a deep breath and slowly lowered the weapon.
“What is your name?”
“Keirah,” she said. “Keirah DeWinter.”
“You’re a loyal woman, aren’t you, Keirah DeWinter?”
Her eyes narrowed. He almost made that sound like it was a bad trait. At that moment, several more Alphan men walked up behind him, and Captain Krig conversed with them in his own language. She’d never had a reason to learn it, so she didn’t know what he was saying, but the next moment they were coming in the room and helping the unconscious men, including Geoff.
“Where are you taking him?” she demanded.
“The men will be taken to the medical bay on my ship,” he told her. “I would like for you to follow me.”
Did she have to? She wanted to follow Geoff. But the look on his face told her that he hadn’t requested her presence. He demanded it.
She tried to push down some primal instinct that warned her this man would change her world forever.

The Evernighties Weekly Blog Challenge - week 14

Hobbies Outisde of Reading

Probably no surprise that I'm an introvert. I grew up in a rural setting in Missouri, far away from any friends to play with. I entertained myself most of the time and one of the things I did a lot was read. Books were my escape from small town country life. When I was about 11 or 12 I discovered my mother's Harlequin Presents romance books, and the first one I read was Web of Silk by Yvonne Whittle. I was in love with the cover:

It was set in South Africa and it was the first time I learned that white people had settled there from a gold rush. Romance opened up the world, really, putting "real" people in exciting and exotic locales. It fueled my imagination and a few years later I began thinking up my own stories.

Growing up, I kept up my hobby of writing. Eventually, I turned that into being published. Now-a-days, I read only when lying in bed, ready to go to sleep. My days are filled with working, taking care of my son, my husband, and writing. I don't have too many other hobbies. I'm usually exhausted when I get home from my day job.
