From the This is What it Has Come To file

frozenbreadI opened the freezer this morning and what you see to the left is what I saw: not one, not two, but THREE loaves of frozen bread.

The practice of freezing bread is one of the many inexorable signs of the slide into Formerly.

I'm not talking about really good farmers market bread with olives or pecans that you can't resist but know you won't finish, so you freeze and enjoy it toasted with cream cheese and really good coffee on the weekend. That's reasonable. What's not is hoarding perfectly...

Cut Chelsea a break, people

4985593888_a376e6309bPeople are ragging on Chelsea Handler for doing a sucky job hosting MTV's Video Music Awards the other night.

Of course I didn't watch the VMAs. In fact, in the last decade, I've been totally oblivious to them until Kanye West was so mean to that nice girl with the hair that never moves…Taylor Swift. Because of the kerfuffle his antics created and like few other pop cultural happenings, it penetrated my addled working-mom-of-two Formerly brain. For half a day, like everyone else, I thought...

Jane's about face

4773783247_fd14409c4aJane Fonda is the latest celeb to be honest about getting her slackening facial skin tightened up a touch. Apparently she had some work done back in 2000, and then made a pact with Sally Field that she wouldn't again. "It's really hard, especially if you're a public person. But I want to give a face to aging," is what she said at the time.

But then she went ahead and had her eyes and chin and neck tightened up back in February (this picture was taken in June). She explained to Larry King:

"If...

Are You A "FORMERLY?"

Jennifer Anastasi, BounceBack Editorial Staff

There's been lots of buzz about a new release on the ever-popular chick-lit scene. Stephanie Dolgoff's "My Formerly Hot Life: Dispatches from Just the Other Side of Young" takes a humorous look at how she identifies herself as a "formerly" – the term she uses to define her gradual transformation from a hot, young 20-something to a not-so-hot middle aged wife and mom (who shamelessly admits she'd "buy an ass-bra"...

Life in quotation marks

img_20100908_092649I stopped by Whole Foods this morning after dropping my kids at school (the only non-carb my daughter Vivian will eat is the overpriced organic beef jerky) and ran into an old friend, Allen, on the checkout line. As often happens these days, he and I were able to jump right in to less superficial conversation than if there were no Facebook. We decided to grab a coffee upstairs in the teak-and-bamboo Zen-consumer lounge-like atmosphere that they have in every Whole Foods. Not for nothing, I...
