On a lifetime upswing
JANELLE WROTE: I was formerly not hot, not real cool, but a lot of fun. Now, I feel hot, cool, and still fun. I'm soon to be 48, had back surgery and can't do all of the things my mind says I can, but my body says no to. At 47, I am better than I could have ever imagined I would be and looking forward to getting even better. Maybe not so hot to the 20 somethings, but that's OK by me. What do they have to offer yet?

Lovin' the Oven
When I was a kid my mom wouldn't let me have an Easy Bake Oven, because she rightfully despised the idea that little girls were to be trained to be nothing more than kitchen drones and caregivers, pretending to be satisfied with the prospect of whipping up triple layer delicacies with a big bogus smile on their faces and popping amphetamines on the sly to get through the day.
Of course, this was the mid-70s, right smack in the middle of Women's Lib, and my mother, married at 18 in 1958, was...

The real life of a Formerly
BEA WROTE: Happy to be Formerly…most of the time. Formerly did not have to worry about the color of my hair, which since 2 or 3 years ago has become a monthly bother to color. Formerly was more careless, light and took opportunities easily as they came along. Now life is so much fuller, but also more complicated. Formerly did not have marvelous children that keep me in my toes, making me question so many things about what I am doing and how am doing it. Formerly was more insecure about what ...
Finally HAPPY
[image error]
MARY WROTE: I turned heads in my younger days, abd then I married a man that diminished my confidence and self worth! I then went on to have 3 children with him (they are my biggest accomplishment and the loves of my life.) Years later we divorced…I am now remarried to the most wonderful man I know! he tells me daily how beautiful I am and how much he loves me. I am 41 years young, feel hotter than I did when I was younger, finished my degree, love my job and see my grown kids on a daily...
A happier kind of hot
SHANNON WROTE: "Wow Mom, you used to be hot!" Those words will crush a woman's soul. They're right up there with the time my four-year-old (number four in the line-up of five kids) came in unexpectedly while I was stepping out of the shower and looked up oh so innocently and asked, "Mommy, when will I have loooonng boobies like yours?" That put me into a black hole for weeks.
But now that I'm knocking on 40 (in four months and 23 days, but who's counting) I realize that even though my boobs...
Gorgeous Grandma

ELAINE WROTE: I was at my grandson's Little League baseball game when a little boy came up to me and asked 'Are you Johnny's grandma?" He was asking about a little boy whom I didn't know and I said "no." It occurred to me a moment later that he didn't ask "Are you Johnny's MOM?" Clearly I look like a grandma! A moment of truth from the mouth of babes….. No matter, I still feel "hot"… LOL.
SJP and me
Sarah Jessica Parker and I might just be the same person. Think about it: Have you ever seen us in a room together? No, right? (That would be because, with one exception, we've never been in a room together. The one time we were, maybe ten years ago at a restaurant in SoHo, she ate heaps of linguine while I stared at her eating heaps of linguine. It was all very thrilling for me and probably annoying for her. Linguine is hard to eat with some lady staring at you.)
ANYway, aside from the fact t...

Snort
This new website by some sister magazine chicks appealed to me in a circle of life kind of way. It's like, you're born cute (there are some exceptions, but by and large babies genetically coded to be adorable so their moms don't leave them out with the recycling when they cry relentlessly and then spit up); then you're a dork (a pretty much universal junior high state of being); then you're briefly hot again, and then you revert back to dorkdom, at least in the eyes of your children and all t...
