STEVE STRED REVIEWS LOST GIRL
"this is a book I’ll never forget and one I think everyone who’s yet to read it to take a weekend, turn off the cellphone and clear your schedule and curl up in a ball and dive in. You’ll be cursing his name the entire time, but you won’t be able to put it down."
Full review here.I bow with thanks to Steve Stred. A passionate appreciation of my novel, and a story that I dearly wish would remain fiction.

LAST DAYS - 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY
Some things refuse to stay buried ... like, fortunately, some of my books.
Last Days is 10 years old. A novel that has endured among horror readers, through word-of-mouth, since 2012. Never been out of print, and currently enjoying a revival, as an upsurge in new readers discover the hideous trinity of the Old Friends, Sister Katherine and the Unholy Swine. Little brings me as much satisfaction. Most books sink within a matter of weeks. A horror in itself. This one stayed afloat.
It took a lot of writing, an enormous research project, and suffered a terrible false start (probably my worst creative crisis to date). I had one year to write the book (the crisis occurred just before the middle of that period). I also needed to become familiar with guerilla filmmaking and notorious cults, whilst also freelancing as an editor ... with a baby in the house. I'm not sure how it was ever finished.
Writing the novel also incited several uncanny moments, in which I began to suspect that the story was suggesting itself to me via uncanny means. In short, I was a bit mad when I wrote it.
To all who have journeyed to Mayfair, Normandy and Arizona in search of the truth about The Temple of the Last Days, I manifest on your ceiling like Xrayed bones ... grinning with gratitude.

PAUL FINCH REVIEWS CUNNING FOLK
"Intense horror is one of Nevill’s specialities . . . if you like folk horror, or plain, non specific horror, or if you just like any kind of thriller so long as there is huge tension and terror baked in, then this is definitely one for you." Paul Finch
I may daub myself in ash & chalk and stand on one leg, in honour of writer Paul Finch (horror, crime, thriller & screenplays).
Good article on folk horror here, and he has a very special book blog - Walking in the Dark.

HOUSE OF SMALL SHADOWS - EDITH MASON BROUGHT TO LIFE (SHUDDER)
"In her professional experience, the greatest treasures were most often guarded by the slyest and cruellest dragons."Edith Mason from 'House of Small Shadows'. She lives! When an artist is inspired sufficiently by my horrors to interpret them, I'm thrilled. I've said it before and I reiterate the sentiment. This fabulous creation isn't a sketch or painting, but a kind of living installation, and involves costume, makeup, set design, talent and time. So I raise my horns and hoofs to Abbey Jones, her mother, Lily, and Leon Britton, the photographer.Feast your eyes.

THE 50 BEST HORROR BOOKS - ESQUIRE.
Flattered to see one of my horrors included in this Top 50 from Esquire. And a surprising choice too - I don't often see my 2010 novel mentioned online.
A two horned salute from me to Esquire and Neil McRobert.

LOST GIRL PUBLISHED IN RUSSIA
Possibly an indelicate post, given the situation, but LOST GIRL has been translated into Russian (AST) and published.
It's also my most relevant book, given the situation, and feels less fictional as each year passes.
But I'm pleased that Russian readers have a chance to meet the Red Father. I'm guessing their fears for the future are similar to ours.

STEVE SANGAPORE - MODERN ICON. THE EFFIGY.
From artist Steve Sangapore's collection: Modern Icon."I recently created a sculpture that is currently on display for a gallery show in Boston titled "We Do Not Say its Name (Inspired by The Ritual)". The effigy sculpture was inspired by both The Ritual's book description and the movie's visual depiction. My current series titled Modern Icon and the ideas it explores seemed to be the perfect direction for the creation of the sculpture. The effigy sits on an Eastern-style altar which rests upon a mirror. In front of the mirror lies a prayer rug. In keeping with one of the central aims of the series: to illustrate the modern person's preoccupation with the self, often at the expense of spirituality, the viewer is confronted with an image of themselves reflected back from the mirror when in the worshiping position."Now kneel!
