KISS ME SANTA! by @PatriceWilton #tenbrides - Comedy, romance and a small disillusioned boy. Can it get better?
**Patrice is one of the ten brides that I worked with on the other bride's book and she's become a dear friend as well as a colleague.
Welcome – Patrice Wilton
I have written well over twenty books in the past twenty-some-odd years, but I've never attempted a Christmas story--not until I was asked to join a group of talented New York Times and USA Today, bestselling authors in a Christmas box set. I read a few books to get the "feel" of a holiday story and jumped right in, needing to write this in less than two months.
I am so glad I did. KISS ME SANTA flew off the pages and was so much fun to write. I normally write romantic comedy, some spicier than others, but this story led itself to be sweeter than most.
First, we have a widowed teacher, Cindy Harris, who takes her son to meet Santa at the mall. Instead of jolly Saint Nick, they get grumpy Brad Williams. He’d stepped into the red suit to help out his brother, a man recently returned from war and suffering PTSD. Brad didn't want his brother to lose his job, or the children to be disappointed, so he cancelled his appointments, put on a fake beard, and took the twelve hour shift.
The little boy, Tyler, will steal your heart. His daddy is in heaven, and all he wants is to have his daddy back for Christmas--or a new daddy--not anymore dumb toys. Every other kid he knows has one--why must he be different? When Santa tells him that he can't deliver daddies-- he's in the toy making business--Tyler becomes upset and tugs at Santa's beard, only to find it comes off in his hand. He cries and calls Santa a fake, and his mother tries to console her heartbroken son.
Brad Williams is taking a short dinner break and who does he run into but the ill-tempered boy and gorgeous, but sharp-tongued mother. He apologies for making the boy cry, and tells them that he is Santa's helper, not the real Santa.
Then as fate would have it, he turns out to be the new real estate agent Cindy hires to sell her family home. Sparks fly between them. Will the magic of Christmas open their hearts, and offer the best gift of all: love?
Kiss me Santa is only one of the ten books brought together for this incredible box collection. Get your copy now.

Editors! We gotta have 'em and work with them, but do we gotta like them??
This is the e-mail I received today from my editor, Tessa Shapcott. You might have heard about her – she’s Jane Porter’s editor and worked on the very book that got Jane a Rita this year. Plus, Tessa’s various credentials are impressive and she’s a sought after editor. I feel very fortunate that she accepts my work. Recently, I sent her my latest manuscript, Special Agent Finnegan – Book #2 for the Undercover FBI series. This was her reply and it made me feel so good, that I had to share it with you all.
Hi Mimi,
Here is Special Agent Finnegan line-edited for you. I'm so sorry I took a day longer and hope I didn’t disrupt your schedule. However, I did find it a great read. I loved the relationship between Renee and Finn, and the humor you infused with the character of Collin - some of the things he said had me laughing out loud! You are terrific at creating characters and dialogue.
I'm also attaching a few notes I made about a handful of continuity points that I thought you might want to look at. Nothing too dreadful; just straightening out this and that.
As ever, if you have any questions or thoughts, please do let me know.
It's been a pleasure as always, Mimi!
With warm wishes,
Tessa
Now those of you who don’t work with editors might not find this letter so fantastic. I mean it’s a nice tribute but what the heck…one would think it normal.
Think again!
I have many mates that get their edited copy back with a few terse words about the corrections and a short “thank you” for sending me the work and that’s it baby!! No compliments. Or any comments about whether they liked the story—even that they got caught up in it… nothing. Those poor authors are left wondering if this means that the book was no good or the story not interesting or???
So… having my very professional editor pay me these compliments is a BIG DEAL!!!
And…I hope her comments will foster more interest in this book when it's released. It'll be the first time ever, that I will do a pre-order and so will make sure to detail my findings so I can share them with you all.
P.S. It's a darn good thing she doesn't edit my blog....gulp!! a Rafflecopter giveaway

She’s Not You – a song recorded by #Elvis Presley in 1962 - now it’s a heartwarming Christmas book!
The months it took to write this book was a fun time for me. The song echoed in my head periodically to remind me of where the plot line needed to go. I’d even
play the tune
just to get in the mood.Of course, writing about this holiday is always special. I enjoy trying to get the mood just right so that it comes through the pages for the readers to experience. You know - those festive touches that bring the season close and makes one feel, taste and smell Christmas.
When I write my characters, I have a vision in my head, and at first, for the hero, I saw Elvis himself. But then Jesse Parker emerged and became his own man. I’m glad, because he’s a sweetheart and a shadow to no one. Locked into an old, dead romance, this guy needed to wake up and let go of his memories. Then he wouldn’t miss the lovely woman right in front of him – my heroine Belle. In the song it said – And it’s just breakin’ my heart cause she’s not you. Maybe not, but what if she’s better?
Belle Foster soon became real to me also. As a mother myself, I felt her worries and fears for her little girl. She’s a woman who’s had so much to overcome, most of all a belief in her own worthiness. Sick and alone at any time of the year is difficult, but when you have a small child who relies on you, and the season is Christmas, then who wouldn’t yearn for that special person to share their world.
And Layla, the child, could be anyone’s daughter or granddaughter. Mischievous and cute as a button, she gets into your heart, digs a hole and won’t be shook loose.
Put these three people together in a love story and you have a delightful tale that will warm your heart and brighten the holiday season for any reader of romance. Add a wedding and it can’t get much better...
Actually, it can get better. This is just one of ten books in the Ten Christmas Brides Collection available at:

Do you have an older cover on #Goodreads and don’t know how to update it?? Read these simple instructions.
A friend of mine recently had trouble with having two editions of the same book on Goodreads. Thankfully, I was able to help her. Since I’d had a similar problem some time ago, the information given to me by one of the Customer Care Representatives was still able to correct this situation.
In fact, I can’t tell you how often this has come in handy. I’m sure you’ve all had books where either the covers didn’t work for you or you wanted to put a seasonal cover on it for specific holidays (Christmas Books). I know, I have (I don’t worry about readers duplicating their purchases since the publishers won’t let them re-buy a book nowadays) and so numerous times, I’ve made changes
Then I’d go to Goodreads and try dealing with the situation where there’d be the older version of the cover coming up and me floundering around, grumbling like an old she-bear cause my baby wore the wrong clothes.
Finally I broke down, wrote to their support team and found a real live person – a lovely lady who gave me a set of instructions even I could follow:
Here's how to combine the editions:
1. Add the new edition like a new book to Goodreads with the updated cover image.
2. Navigate to your author profile.
3. On the right side of the "Books By..." bar, click on the "combine editions" link.
4. Tick both the editions you'd like to combine.
5. Click "combine".
Here's how to set the default edition for a book:
1. Navigate to the book's page.
2. Click "edit details" below the book's description.
3. On the right side of the page, click "Set this book as the primary edition for the work". It's about midway down the page.
As soon as you've combined the editions, the rating and reviews for all the editions will also be aggregated (so no extra step needed). You should then be able to set the new edition as the default edition.
The old editions will then be accessible through the "Other Editions" section of the main book page.

Quit trying to take away our bookstores and real books!! Just stop it!
Original post was written for the Venture Gallery blogon October 2, 2014by Stephen Woodfin AMAZON
Do you prefer paper books, eBooks or audiobooks?
It’s not a theoretical debate.
The digital revolution has changed all sorts of things about the book business.
Ebooks are here to stay.
Audiobooks are on the rise.
But the demise of paper books has not occurred, as some predicted.
Independent book stores, not so long ago believed by many to be on the way out, are on the resurgence.
So the book world now is schizophrenic.
Readers read books on their smart phones, listen to audiobooks on their phones or tablets while they commute or take trips, and purchase paper books.
I’ll use myself as an example.
I buy several eBooks per month straight off my Kindle. I buy an audiobook or two each month and download it on the Audible app on my phone. I listen to it on head phones connected to my phone. I buy paper books of a few of my favorite authors when new releases come out. For instance, I always pre-order the next James Lee Burke book. I also buy paper copies of classic or hard to find books. I am more likely to purchase a paper book in an independent bookstore, although we don’t have many such stores in my neck of the woods.
I don’t know whether my book buying habits are representative of book buyers in general. My thought is that there are a number of factors that come into play in the equation. Some of those are the proximity of a brick and mortar bookstore, the age of the buyer and the genres of interest to her.
I think we are beginning to see a backlash against the ubiquity of the Internet.
The Internet is great for many things, but it can’t replace the smell of a bookstore or the personal interaction a book buyer can have with knowledgeable bookstore proprietors who can point her in the right direction. Neither can a reader shake hands with an author at Amazon.
So, I’m curious.
Do you prefer paper books, eBooks or audiobooks, and where do you like to buy them?
When I read Stephen’s blog, I just had to share it with you. I guess the fact that I had received my son’s Christmas list early (as he’s heading out of the country until Dec 21st) might have something to do with it. You see… his list consisted of three, hard-to-find, hardcover books from Amazon.
Then last night, my mother called and asked me to send her two paperback copies of my own book Special Agent Francesca because she wanted them for Christmas gifts. (What is it with this Christmas stuff??? Sheesh – it’s only October.)
But…I digress! The point here is that many folks still enjoy holding that physical book in their hands and then displaying it on their bookshelves.
My personal theory - we might be able to alter the old systems with progress but we’ll never change human nature.

“Gloves, hat, scarf, insulated jacket,” she said. “I’m ready.”He paused long enough to shoot her a serious look. “You’re being a great sport about all of this, Christy. Being dragged out in the cold on Christmas Eve is going above the call.”
She smiled at him, and suddenly he couldn’t seem to draw a breath. He felt as if he was really seeing her for the first time, and she was a stunningly beautiful woman.
Izzie rapped on his window.
Her voice was muffled as she urged, “Come on, Daddy.”
The adults exited the car, and as soon as Aaron closed the door, he looked across the roof at Christy. Her blond hair curled softly around her shoulders, and her hands were stuffed into her jacket pockets. She walked up the ramp toward the boardwalk, and Aaron couldn’t help but notice how nicely she filled out her jeans with soft curves.
He’d realized she had a kind and giving nature; no one would sacrifice their own Christmas for the sake of a child unless that person was very special, indeed. But why hadn’t he noticed just how pretty she was? Or how enticingly her hips swayed when she walked?
“Oh, wow, how pretty!”
Aaron had to smile when his daughter shouted out the very words that were racing through his head. Of course, Izzie was describing something totally different. This delightful story - plus 13 more - are part of the newest Christmas Collection called
