My secrets for getting ‘Tis the Season from #250,000 rank to under #50 in a few days. #Amazon
Recently, I was on a huge promotion for my book ‘Tis the Season and I want to share with you some of the reasoning behind the steps I took. I’ve always known that one single promotion for any book might give it a small blip, create a few sales - if you’re lucky - but within the same day or the next, the sales drop and the ranking follows. I’ve had that happen numerous times. And… in many cases, I never made back the investment it cost me and realized promoting could be a losing proposition. But this time, I decided to use a huge and expensive market like BookBub $612 (including the UK portion) and then work around it. For instance, once I knew the date, I started organizing more adverts for the days leading up. I know it can be difficult. Since BookBub only plans 30 days in advance and many of the other promoters can be booked up for months, you might not get the exact one’s you want, but there are a lot of places out there to choose from. The idea is to make sure you get your ranking as high as possible before the big guy hits. For example, my book was ranking in the #250,000 area when I began the journey. Wednesday, two days before it was to be on Book Bub, I had it on Romance E-Book Deals $22.50 and Book Booster $30. I’d also started a book tour called Kozy up with Kris Kringle with two fabulous authors, Donna Fasano and Jackie Weger, and we were all furiously promoting the three days of that blitz. I featured two books in that event – ‘Tis the Season and Special Agent Finnegan . On the Thursday, I set up 'Tis the Season on the silver option with OHFB $75 (One Hundred Free Books) and Read Cheaply $0 Then came the big day! I was lucky to get BookBub’s date on a Friday, Dec 12th. That day, I was all over Facebook and putting the book over the better sites where they accept blatant selling posts. Three of the best ones are: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BookPromotion/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/bookjunkiepromotions/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/Romance.novel.junkies/ I also scheduled mega tweets, so there were a lot floating around. And…my blog, which is hooked up with Triberr, was hopping for the three days of the Kris Kringle posts which I - of course - featured. That meant those tweets were constantly out there in twitterland. Not wanting the tide to change too quickly, I decided that I needed to keep the momentum going and so I also set up another promotion for the day after – the bestselling day of the week – Saturday. BookSends $100 is one of my favorite places to spend my money and didn’t let me down. Now - before my book hit BookBub, it was already ranking in the #2,000 range and that really helped it get as high as #36 YAY!!! with three #1 category places DOUBLE YAY!!! At one incredible point, I was on Amazon's best-selling list right behind Nora Roberts!! No freakin way!!! Oh Yeah!! (Next blog on what to do with your categories during this time - so check back)
Because I set the book up for a steady climb, my understanding is that Amazon’s algorithms will maintain the book’s leverage for longer than the one crest and it seems to be happening. On Sunday night, after midnight, the book ranked at just under #200, so I upped the price to $2.99 to ride the downward wave. Then I added a $50 Facebook Boost to my promotional push. Today, it’s still at #767 and in 3 different categories so I’m very happy. I will continue to promote it through my own efforts until this coming weekend when it will be on eReader News and hopefully take off for one more trip. ***I must add here that I had deliberately kept the price for ‘Tis the Season at the $4.99 level right until Wednesday, which was low considering the three full-length books in the collection are regularly priced at $2.99.(Although I will admit to them being on sale most of this month for 99 cents....ahem!) But, I understand that most promoters wanted a good price drop to make the sales more captivating for their followers and I knew that it would look good to see the regular price at $4.99 dropped to 99 cents on their newsletters.
Don’t you just love this season!! Best book-selling month of the year!!!

It’s the holidays! Let’s celebrate with a delicious recipe. When you cook Caponata, your house will be filled with a wonderful onion, garlic, bacon aroma that will set off your salivary glands and have your family running for the dinner table. Can’t find perciatelli pasta? You can substitute fusilli, linguini, or plain spaghetti. Enjoy!
Carbonara
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
2 onions, chopped into 1/4 inch cubes
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 pound bacon slices, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 pound perciatelli pasta
1 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
3 egg yolks, beaten
Heat the oil in a large frying pan. Add onions and garlic and sauté over medium heat until translucent, about eight minutes. Add bacon and cook until bacon is to desired crispness. Whisk in the heavy cream until fully incorporated. This is your sauce. Keep warm. Meanwhile, cook pasta in a pot of boiling, salted water. Cook to al dente (as per package directions). Drain pasta well and return hot pasta to pot. Add Parmesan to pasta and toss to coat. Add the egg yolks slowly, tossing the hot pasta so that all strands are coated. Place pasta onto a large platter and spoon cream sauce over top.
Serve with a green salad and fresh bread for sopping up all that creamy, rich deliciousness!

One of the things I love best about December is the fragrance of Christmas. Of course, you can buy all sorts of Christmas sprays, but I make my own in several ways. Our Christmas dessert is fresh lemon icebox pie. All of the the lemon husks go into a big pot of simmering water on the back of my stove.
Add cinnamon, nutmeg, whole cloves, apple peelings and cores and orange slices and peels. If you happen to have on hand an essential oil of mint or lavender, toss in a few drops. Don’t turn on the stove’s vent fan, or you will send that lovely fragrance into your yard. Just keep adding water as the pot simmers down—you can use the mixture for the Twelve Days of Christmas.
If you are like me, you are gonna need that back burner for cooking Christmas dinner. The mixture can freshen your disposal or go into a compost bin, or just sit in a jar under a counter or the kitchen sink. For instant Christmas Fragrance, I “perk” cinnamon, nutmeg and whole cloves in an old-fashioned percolator just before guests arrive.
Here is something I noticed over the years: When that lovely fragrance was permeating the house, my kids stopped bickering, my teenagers were more open and less sassy and the man in the house was less stressed and actually volunteered to help wash dishes. Cinnamon makes Christmas magic.

The Reluctant Hero
by Jackie Weger
Five Stars
“This was a clean, well written novel and caught me quite by surprise. I found the characters adorable, well developed and sometimes hysterical with their antics. I laughed out loud. It was really a great read. Excitement, survival, a horde of kids and fighting the elements equalled a very engaging, well written book and one I will totally cherish. Well worth the read.” ~ avp
“Beautifully written, I was up until 3:30 a.m. finishing this story. The interview [with Capt Stillman] at the end was a perfect wrap-up.” ~ avp
Parnell Stillman is an ace pilot and man to the bone. The kind of man who keeps every motorized piece of equipment he owns in pristine condition--but his socks don't match. Flying is his high road until one sleet-filled morning--it isn’t. Mischance forces his plane down in a frozen wilderness. He can survive, but his live cargo is another matter--an annoying social worker and five orphans--the most irksome freight he has ever hauled in his career. Rebecca Hollis is determined to force the disagreeable, lackadaisical pilot to do whatever is necessary to insure the survival and rescue of the orphans… Even if it means making the noble gesture of keeping her mouth shut. But the pilot isn’t having it. Heroics is not his thing. No way. No how. No time. He’d rather dance with a grizzly or wrestle a puma than succumb to a wily do-gooder’s shenanigans. Rebecca Hollis has other ideas to ensure the rescue of the orphans—lots of them, all artful and disingenuous—one of which is bound to work… Or maybe not.

Is sharing the good stuff that happens to you REALLY bragging?
Probably! Maybe…
Nah! It’s good to share the peaks in one’s career as well as the valleys – right??
We all need to soak in the good times and reveal these highpoints in the same way we might want to warn friends about our mistakes so they don’t follow in our footsteps. As you all know, I’ve admitted my screw-ups on my blog many times in hopes that by reading what I’ve managed to mess up, you will bypass those crazy blunders yourself.
Well today, I just have to tell you about something I did right.
Earlier in the year, I came across a lovely lady, JenniferDouglas , a publicist who wanted to do an advent calendar in December on books she would review. Since it’s usually difficult to get honest reviews for our work, I was attracted to this concept and the idea of having my Christmas books read by a person with her qualifications really appealed to me.
So I contacted her and was pleasantly surprised at the cost and her welcoming persona. Months later, listening to this video, I am thankful that I found her and can’t say enough about her generosity and her professionalism.
And… she still has three books to go!!
Together for Christmas - Oh - oh! I wonder if she'll like fantasy/paranormal, spirit-travel plots?
Loveable Christmas Angel - Gulp! Maybe adorable angels aren't her thing??
Special Agent Finnegan - Okay - romantic suspense is usually a favorite - isn't it??
Okay now I'm nervous!
And kinda excited!
Watch this and see why….

The Off World Cookbook!! by paranormal author @RebeccaYork43 #mgfpf

The Off World Cookbook by Rebecca York Genre: CookbookRelease Date: December 8, 2015

Do you ever want to know more about the background and environment of the characters in a story? Here's a chance to find out more about Rebecca York's Off World novellas and short stories. Like what do the heroes and heroines in these science-fiction romances really eat? And where did they get the recipes? Or are they foraging for their supper in the forests, fields and streams of strange planets?
It's fun to envision these future meals in strange environments and more fun to duplicate the dishes here on Earth--even the Farlian Celebration Cake pictured on the cover.
Some of the recipes, like the Backcountry Quick Bread from Assignment Danger, feature native foods, which you've never encountered. But you can make easy substitutions with ingredients found at your local grocery store.
Others like the Roasted Summer Vegetables or Cheesecake that the colonists on Jalar enjoy or the Fresh Cherry Compote made from the trees on Caleb Raider's farmstead in Nightfall are made with ingredients originally brought from Earth and carefully cultivated in their new environments.
Some, like the Grilled Steak with Peppers and Onions from Conquest, are a blend of native and Earth traditions.
Each of these dishes is rich with the atmosphere of another time and place. Try them in your own kitchen. They'll give you an--ahem--taste of what we have in store in the future when we venture into the unknown worlds of the galaxy and beyond.

GRILLED STEAK WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONSConquest
Grazing animals which resemble the buffalo of old earth inhabit the lowland plains on Jalar. The Jalarians hunt them for furs and food. Like all of the native warriors, Rohan could eat their meat at every meal. For variety, Elena taught him to add a flavorful marinade and some vegetables. Here on earth, you can marinate the steak in a plastic bag.
Makes 4 servings
11/2 pounds sirloin steak, cut 1-inch thick
1 1/2 cups chopped onions
1/2 cup olive oil
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp Italian seasoning
1/2 Tbsp Dijon-style mustard
2 tsp minced garlic
1 tsp salt
2 sweet peppers (green and red, yellow, or orange) seeded and sliced
Place steak in a zip-lock plastic bag. In a small bowl, combine onion, oil, vinegar, Italian seasoning, mustard, garlic, and salt; stir to mix well. Pour into the bag with steak, distributing evenly over meat. Seal, lay on a large plate, and refrigerate 6 to 8 hours or overnight. Adjust rack 5 inches from broiler. Preheat broiler. Transfer meat to broiler pan. Broil meat for 11 to 18 minutes, turning once, until desired degree of doneness is reached.Meanwhile, transfer onions and marinade to a large skillet. Add 2 tablespoons additional oil. Add peppers, and cook over medium high to high heat, stirring frequently, 7 or 8 minutes, until onions and peppers begin to char.To serve, slice meat on the diagonal, and arrange on a serving platter. Surround with pepper-onion mixture.

You can’t fail if you don’t try. So! I gotta try…right? #amwriting #amazon
I thought I’d share something with you that has recently caught my attention – Amazon’s Kindle Singles!
Years ago I wrote a very short story (approx. 3,000 words) called Hotshot and I set in up on some website –that to tell you the truth – I don’t even remember anymore. Of course, back in those days, my writing wasn’t as well-crafted as I believeit is today. And… that was proven by the number of corrections I had to make in the revisions of this story. In fact, while making my edits, I doubled the number of words to over 7,000 and changed the title to Hotshot Cowboy. I did this because of this KDP rule - “Not published on any public website in its entirety”- So; I knew I had to make those changes.
Funny thing, as I rewrote this very short story and added those words, I brought in other characters through a family link with the hero. These introductions will give me the opportunity to write another 3 shorts that can link to this one. Didn't mean to do this when I began reworking it… but, as all writers know, these threads sometimes magically appear and it’s a treat when things work out that way. In the next year, I visualize a bunch of these stories, all branded in a similar way, all out there providing me with extra income and attracting new fans.
Personally, I believe it’s incredibly important for all authors to be as visible in as many places as possible. My hope is for a reader to enjoy this story so much that he/she will go searching for whatever else I've written. And, I’ll be only too happy to provide them with a long list of all my books quite appropriately added into the back matter.
Below, I've attached the information from Amazon’s website. Check it out and see if this might interest you also.
Submissions Policy Anyone can submit original work to Kindle Singles . We've showcased writing from both new and established voices--from bestselling novelists to previously unpublished writers.
We're looking for compelling ideas expressed at their natural length--writing that doesn't easily fall into the conventional space limitations of magazines or print books. Kindle Singles are typically between 5,000 and 30,000 words.
A Kindle Single can be on any topic. So far we've posted fiction, essays, memoirs, reporting, personal narratives, and profiles, and we're expanding our selection every week. We're looking for high-quality writing, fresh and original ideas, and well-executed stories in all genres and subjects.
How to submit We will consider ebooks recently published via Kindle Direct Publishing, manuscript submissions, or pitches. • To nominate your self-published book, simply email us at kindle-singles@amazon.com and include the title, ASIN, and a brief summary.
• If the work is not yet published, you can submit a manuscript or a detailed pitch for your Kindle Single. Send as much material as you have available to kindle-singles@amazon.com and include your name and a writing sample.
• All manuscripts submitted as attachments must be accompanied by a cover letter with a detailed summary of the submission.
• Writers or publishers wishing to propose an idea for a Kindle Single can write to our editors at kindle-singles@amazon.com . Selection process Each submission is carefully reviewed by our editors. Once your submission is received, we will read and respond within six weeks. If we are interested in your submission or pitch, we will provide you with further instructions on how to submit your title via Kindle Direct Publishing and any additional next steps. Rights and Royalties Accepted Kindle Singles are published using the Kindle Direct Publishing platform, which means that the author earns royalties on each sale. Kindle Singles must have list prices between $0.99 and $4.99, and authors can choose the 70% royalty option for their accepted titles, even when the list price is below $2.99. All other Terms and Conditions of Kindle Direct Publishing will also apply to content sold as a Kindle Single.
Writers retain all rights to their work when accepted and published in Kindle Singles. We will consider Kindle Singles from authors, publishers, and agents, and you will need to confirm that you have the rights to publish the work you upload. If accepted, your Kindle Single must be made available in all territories where you have rights, so Kindle customers around the world have the option to purchase your title.
Like all Kindle books, Kindle Singles are buyable and readable across the entire Kindle family of devices, as well as on our Free Kindle Reading Apps (Kindle for iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, Android, etc.).
