The reflection in the Mirror – #MFRWauthor

Welcome to Week 6 – Choices and Preferences.

As an author, I get to play with point of view (POV) all the time.  What message do I want the reader to get determines whose POV I use.  I call this the reflection in the mirror. The reflection the reader sees will shadow the conversation. I love to write a scene from a POV that has the reader emotionally submerged into the reflecton.

This is also true in life. One of ‘skills’ I’ve developed over the years on my job was to try to see what my students did. For example, everyone would agree education is important. Well, not everyone. If you are looking at a math sheet from a 9 year old’s POV who hasn’t eaten yet, has spent the night sleeping in a car, and has no idea what tonight will bring. The math sheet isn’t so important. While you can try to change the child’s POV to see that completing the math sheet will led to a better job, which will led to food and shelter.  The 9 year old sees the math sheet as yet another failure. You see it as a way out.  This is a hard reflection to merge. Both sides are valid.

I try and I’ve taught my kids to try to look at a person and see the reflection they do. Not because they always have a correct reflection. I have students that are jerks just for the sake of a jerk.  I still love them but I do because I’m honest about them.

I’m sure we have all spent an extra 5 minutes thinking about a situation and deciding how best to present it.  I own about 15 pairs of boots. My husband believes that I need no more boots. He’s wrong, I need to change his POV on my boot situation.

It’s a bacon thing…

Welcome to tasty – thirsty Thursday. Today, it’s about bacon. Well the tasty part is. Tuesday was the Chinese new years and the the start of the year of the pig…. I thought I’d share some of my fav bacon dishes.

I’m making both of these tonight. I need a break from winter. Out of the last 10 school days my 7 year-old has had school 2! At this point if we are in the same room with each other we growl.

This is currently my world…

So, I’m doing a ‘summer night’. I’m making bacon wrapped cheese hot dogs and bacon potato salad. I have colored sand so we are going to make so sand hearts for Valentines. Decorate hulu-hoops with streamers and hearts. And I may have a beach martini.

Do you have things you do to break the winter blahs? If so I’d love to hear them.

Bacon Wrapped Cheese hot dogs

What you need:

1 package of hot dogs (you can buy the cheese dogs or sliced jumbo beef dogs in the center and stuff with your own cheese. I do use and use the pepper jack.

16 slices bacon (thick bacon doesn’t really work that great)

Garlic powder – to taste

onion powder – to taste

What you do:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. If you stuffing your hot dogs, make a slit and place the cheese.

Wrap 2 pieces of bacon TIGHTLY around the hot dog. Secure each end with a wooden toothpicks. Sprinkle with onion and garlic powder.

Line a cookie sheet with foil. Place cooking rack on top of foil and line with bacon wrapped hot dogs. Bake 35 – 40 minutes turning once.

Bacon Potato Salad

What you need:

8 medium cooked potatoes – peeled and cut into 1-inch cube

½ pound bacon- cooked and crumbled

6 green onions – chopped

2 celery ribs -chopped

½ cup Mayonnaise or salad dressing (your preference)

½ cup sour cream

What you do:

Put potatoes in a large bowl. Add bacon, chopped green onions, and celery. Stir together Mayonnaise/salad dressing and sour cream until blended. Pour over potato mixture, tossing gently to coat. Cover and chill at least 1 hour.

Have a great week and feel free to share your favorite bacon recipes

Tasty Thursday

Today’s tasty is something in honor of the Chinese New Years coming up. It’s the year of the pig – so I threw in a piggy recipe also.

I’m a rabbit in the Chinese zodiac and a Capricorn. I’m the total opposite to ALL the traits… I mean complete opposite. Which leaves me with two thoughts. (1) I’m an alien or (2) My mother lied about my birthday. Just saying.

How close does your sign represent you?

Well now on to the tasty…

Lila from Murder and Treats is being interviewed over on Viviana MacKade’s blog. For the foodies who like over-the-top subs, here is Lila’s favorite sub. She’s also a bit of wine fan so most of the recipe’s she features has wine

If money grew on Trees… #MFRW 52 week Challenge

Hi everyone and welcome! This is my first week doing the the 52 week challenge so I guess I’m doing the 49 week challenge.

This week’s topic is ‘if money or time weren’t an issue’… Let me tell you the only thing that would make that deal the best ever would be calorie free…

I have a serious thing for doughnuts… for this challenge it’s money and time.

I’m good with the time thing but money. Ohhhh there are sooo many boots and shoes!

AND [image error]                             AND [image error]

when I had bought all the boots/shoes, earrings, and books then I start a travel program. I live in a very oppressed urban area and I worked in the school for many years. When talking to kids about dreams, they couldn’t dream outside our area. They had never been anywhere. I strongly think a key element to igniting a child’s imagination aka dreams is letting them see outside their world.

So I’d like to start a travel program that would take the kids of urban areas and show them the world outside of theirs isn’t a scary place where the monsters of Where The Wild Things Go live. That they could move and be okay. They could get jobs, housing, and go to the movies just like they do in the area only without being shot at.

And that is what I would do if money grew on trees, what would you do?

Make sure to check out what everyone else is doing with their endless time and money. Hop On

Mindset Monday

Commit – my word for the year – 2019

Busy vs fruitful – my focus for the year – 2019.

This year has been rough! My shoulder is still painful (a combination of tendinitis and being frozen) has really thrown my mojo into another galaxy. So I’m really struggling not to throw in the towel. I know I still have most of the year but I still just want to sit and eat doughnuts basking in the muck of self-pity.

But I can’t afford new clothes nor the doughnut bill sooooo it’s forward march. So while a lot of what I planned on starting with the new year has remained undone (mainly my youtube channel), I have done some stuff.

I’m also doing card reading every Monday on my Tasarla blog so if you are interested in that just on over. I’m doing yes or no future questions this week.

I started a new story – here’s sneak peak at the heroine – Tobia.

Tobia’s left eye twitched. First Wren and now – she couldn’t even. She threw the hook knife in the general direction of where she knew Malcom hid. Why the fuck was he here? Well, it didn’t matter, he had to leave. She’d give him choice – alive or dead. And given her morning, the alive thing was being generous.

Malcom stepped into view. He leaned against the door frame.  His broad chest and shoulders pulled the cotton material of his dark blue shirt tight. A smirk curled the corners of his mouth. And what a mouth. Her nipples tightened at the memory of his kisses.

“Hi, Tobia. Good to see you.”

I tried a new planner (I know I know but seriously finding planner peace is like finding a calorie free doughnut). It’s My Brilliant Writing Planner. It’s an extensive planner. I plan on posting a youtube walk through, a review, and why it didn’t work for me later this week so I’ll have that link next week. This week’s spread is cute snowmen (it’s sooooo cold here) and the bossbabe sticker kit from Monsterstick Co  for my business planner.

Also my side hustle of self-care products is in full swing. We made coffee foot scrub and shower grenades last week. Soap is on the docket for this week. A February launch is still the target.

So what is on your mindset this Monday?
