It's About the Love by MJ Schiller

There’s a lot of talk this time of year about the “true” meaning of Christmas. Whether you believe it to be about a babe born in a barn many centuries ago or about the spark of joy in your grandson’s eyes on Christmas morn, it’s all the same. Bottom line is, it’s about love.

I’d like to share with you my favorite Christmas present this year. Yes, I know it’s not even Christmas yet, but this gift came early. It came in the form of a doorbell ring this afternoon. When my husband got to the door, th...

Go With the Spirit by Caroline Clemmons

I’m Caroline Clemmons and I’m so pleased to be here today. This is my favorite time of year! Everything seems to remind me of happy past holidays. However, like Joan Reeves, I prefer my snow in Hallmark movies rather than in my yard. Snow is lovely to see from your living room window, but most Texans don’t know how to drive on it.

To celebrate the season, we drive around to look at Christmas lights on homes, go to Interlochen—a housing area with astonishing light displays on the homes, send cards...

Recalling History Gives Meaning to Today by Jan Scarbrough

When I decided to write my Christmas novella, A Groovy Christmas , I revisited the year 1968. I’m telling my age when I reveal that this was the year I graduated from high school. It was a big year for me, of course. My parents and I hosted an exchange student from Chile. I was a member of the Student Council in charge of assemblies. I took my first journalism class, where the teacher told me that one day I would “remove my rose colored glasses.” My band traveled to Washington, D.C., to march in ...

I Believe... by Liz Flaherty

I don't know when I wrote this, but it's been a while since I used it. I'm filling in for a guest who couldn't make it.

The grandkids mentioned near the end are 26 and 27 now, so it's been a while, but I was happy to find it. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you believe. Merry Christmas to all of you, and thanks for continuing to read the Window Over the Sink.

Thanks to everyone who'd blogged here through this holiday and to those of you who visit each day. Wishing you the best season ever. Be nice to...

Christmas at the Movies by Vicki Batman

Happy Holidays to all of you! And thank you, Liz, for inviting me to blog with you today.

I’m sure a lot of you movie people have favorites you watch during this season. White Christmas is a favorite because my sisters and I watched it on Christmas Eve and yes, we sang the songs. The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant as an angel. Miracle on 34th Street—the parade, the awesome Santa, and the non-believers who become believers.

The Grinch—it is so beautiful to see his heart grow three sizes when he rea...

Peace On Earth Resonates Now More Than Ever by Amy McVay Abbott

Many holiday songs reflect the theme of Peace on Earth. Some familiar Christmas hymns that include those words in the lyrics include "Silent Night," "Away in a Manger," and "O Holy Night." A song often sung at Christmastime is "Let There Be Peace on Earth."

The less familiar song is based on a poem by famous American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and perfectly captures the theme of peace on earth. Has there been a time in recent history when we needed peace on earth more than we do today?

In ...

Christmas Confession by Joan Reeves

If you’ve ever watched a Hallmark Christmas movie, you know what to expect in the background—a snowy winter wonderland. The camerapans out, and you see the exterior of a beautifully decorated home—almostcovered with twinkling colored lights—with fluffy white snow falling softly tothe ground.

Who wouldn’t love that? Well…me.

Seriously, I do love snow—as long as I’m lookingat it in pictures, on television, or in movies like the aforementioned HallmarkChristmas offerings. I attribute my dist...

The Triple Goddess by Holly Jacobs

We're all getting older.

I know, I know. Some people would like to ignore that, but I'll confess, I embrace my aging. I find myself just a bit happier and a bit more comfortable in my own skin as I get older. I love the life I've built with Himself. I love the family we've built. Well, I'm happy.

Maybe I don't mind getting older so much because I have a fondness for old things. My house is filled with antiques. I was talking about buying a Griswold pan for all my Minions. I want one to give each o...

Twelve Days in Medieval Times by Laura Strickland

Most of us are familiar with the carol, "The Twelve Days ofChristmas." It’s one of those that tends to get stuck in a person’s head at thistime of year, and a favorite of mine. But from whence did such an idea come, that Christmas could go on for so many days and would involve the kinds ofgifts that are listed in those stanzas? It came from Medieval England.

Back in the Middle Ages, Christmas was much more of areligious holiday than it is today. On the whole, life in those days was based so...
