Mom always liked you better.
Although we grew up in the same house with six years separating us, my brother and I are polar opposites. If he were to observe that it’s raining, I would say, Yes, but it’s going to stop any minute. If I said I had a headache, he would say, Yes, but I have a migraine. I am the youngest child, he is in the middle of the five of us, but when I looked up personality according to birth order, the descriptions didn’t have much to do with us. Although we care...

You Make It Happen
Remember this movie--Working Girl? You know what I loved the most about this movie? How Tess McGill decided it was time to take her life into her own hands and "make it happen."
Specifically, "You make it happen." In the last couple of weeks, I've been frustrated by a lot of stuff going on in my life. Like my real-life job--you know, the one that pays the bills and provides family with insurance? Yeah. That's the one. Now, I'm not going to mention where I work, but it's a retail orga...

New Trails
My daughter and I love to trail ride. We take the horses and dogs to the mountains as often as we can. We love to take familiar trails, where we know each turn and twist in the trail. We ride through meadows and take pictures of flowers and leaves. Each trip we find something new. Here my daughter is getting ready to cross a stream.
Occasionally, we do something different. We take a new trail, or go completely off the trail and just meander. That's a fun thing to do...just explore.
Those days...

Look at the stars
Although I’m the Monday Wrangler, I’m writing this on Sunday. I usually do, especially since I no longer “work” on weekends. I’m writing this and starting to itch to get back into the WIP. I like that itchy feeling. It’s been a hard week. For Boston. For Texas. For our country in general. Our weather in the Midwest has been wet and gloomy. A few towns near us have had the worst flooding they’ve seen in 100 years. ...

Potty Training
A couple of weeks ago, I talked to my granddaughter while she was visiting her other grandparents in Michigan. She informed me that she was wearing her big girl Dora the Explorer underwear because peeing on herself is gross. I applauded her and cheered her on.
Then I sat down in front of the computer and started to write. The next day I sat down and re-read what I wrote. In the words of my granddaughter, it was "gross." A big pile of crap. Some of it was useful, but for the most part, it stunk...

Reading Frenzy
They say reading is an escape, and I must be trying to escape something pretty desperately, because I've been reading up a storm lately. And buying up a storm. If you can buy a storm of books. If George R.R. Martin can have a Storm of Swords, surely I can have a storm of books. Right?
As a lot of you know, I spend a great deal of time at Barnes and Noble--my preferred place to write. The place where I don't see the dustbunnies under the chair or the windows that need washed.
But one of the...

It's a Cliff Hangar!
So, I'm a weird television watcher. I have my favorite shows, they mostly change from year to year. But I caught the new version of Dallas last January and I've been hooked ever since.Hooked as in, I refuse to watch, tune in to social media or read spoiler-y magazines because I like to indulge my soap opera obsession with long, indulging bouts of watching.
Last night, this season's final bout finished and...I'm just floored. Say what you want about the melodrama of soap operas (I won't discour...

Cover Reveal: Sunny Days Ahead
About two weeks ago, I released A Cowboy to Keep, my first self-published book. This novella, Sunny Days Ahead, is a companion piece to Cowboy.
It has been released for about a week, but I'm formally revealing the cover here today.
The lovely and talented Carey Abbot made it for me. Isn't it pretty?
Blurb:
Sunny Jamieson craves a normal family so much she has gotten pregnant by the wrong man—twice. Neither was the man she thought he was, and she is alone and about to give birth in an ice sto...

You had to be there...
My grandson Eamon is three. He has gorgeous blue eyes that are thiiiiissss big and just his entry into the room makes us laugh. The other day, he didn’t eat his Cheerios because they were “yucky.” “Yucky?" I said, looking at the barely touched bowl.
“Yes.” (His enunciation puts mine to shame—I talk Hoosier, he speaks East Coast English.) He looked up at me, his lashes sweeping wide and innocent, and continued, “Papaw did it.”
In all probability, you had to be there to understand how fu...
