It was special

In February of 1971, Duane came home from Vietnam. He was different—of course he was. He was older and quieter and cold all the time because he’d come from summer to winter in the space of a long plane flight.          I was different, too. I’d become a mom in the time he was gone, a story I’m not telling because any wounds that came from it are long healed. Even though I loved Duane, I was reluctant to compl...

Liz Flaherty - It's All About Me

Step one on the About Me Walk. Have you heard of JABBIC, the Judge A Book By Its Cover contest sponsored by Houston Bay Area RWA? If not, go on over there and take a look. https://jabbic.hbarw...

Four Days

I had no idea what I was going to post today.

I thought about posting about my unsuccessful foray into slow cooker lasagna--I winged it and ended up with meat sauce and evaporated cheese over too few lasagna noodles.

Or doing a hodge-podge. Or simply "forgetting" it was my turn to post.

And then this morning on my FB feed was this quote by Rick Riordan--he, of Percy Jackson fame.

And it inspired me to keep on keeping on with the manuscript that I've been chugging away at for the past...

Writing is Scary Business

Just after bebe's second birthday, RadioMan and I took her to a drive-through animal park. It's filled with llamas and deer, longhorn cattle, buffalo and even a yak and the Scottish Highland...something or other. And there are camels and giraffes and zebras, too. She loved it. From inside the car. Looking through the glass she was as brave as any safari goer has ever been. And then we rolled down the windows and the elk moved a little closer and the deer stood up on their hind legs and...

Two weeks

The Wranglers have been talking about “two weeks” lately.          When my kids were teenagers, adolescent suicide became what felt to every parent of every kid like an epidemic. It was scary. I remember telling the kids that if they ever felt hopeless and unable to talk to anyone about it, to please, please, please wait two weeks. Because even though two weeks won’t go all that far in healing most wounds, it...

A Bit of Wednesday Inspiration

I love reading through books and magazine articles and even websites with quotes from famous people. Its an interesting peek into the psyches of inventors and authors, painters and athletes, politicians or even religious leaders. Aspirational and inspirational quotes are my favorite - I can't tell you how many Buzzfeed lists I've gotten sucked into because they began with famous quotes! I thought I'd share a few quotes with you guys today because...well, who doesn't need a little inspira...
