Do You Hodgepodge Or Theme?

Seeing as how my blogs here at WordWranglers always sticks to a subject (bwahaha), it will probably completely surprise you that during The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, my house is a hodgepodge of decoration. We have a tree with ornaments collected over they years that don't match. I have a Boyd's Bears 'Night Before Christmas' wall hanging on one wall, Lennox snowman ornaments from my grandmother (names engraved), a Precious Moments Nativity fighting for space with a veritable Nutc...

What now?

This is one of those “days in a writer’s life” posts, so if you just rolled your eyes because you’ve read way more of them than you find interesting, I won’t be offended if you run on over to another blog. Come back tomorrow!
I am melancholy today. Because this morning I typed “The End” and closed the file I’ve opened every day (even non-working ones) for the past nine months. Good heavens! It sounds like a pregnancy, doesn’t it? Or a school year?
Well...kinda. Because writing a book, like pre...

Question Friday- Holiday Edition: The Wranglers' Favorite Gifts To Give!

Hiya, WordWrangler readers! We're back with another Question Friday and this time it's a holiday edition. What gift has been your favorite to give?

Liz says, "I've blogged about it before, so some of you may remember it. It was the Christmas of 1975. I was making my little girl a Holly Hobby dress (to go along with her Holly Hobby everything else) and my sewing machine was giving me fits. My husband stayed up with me, making me coffee and talking and doing all the gift-wrapping we'd normally h...

Keep On Writing On....

I think this needs to be motto right about now.

My WIP has me befuddled and not in a good way.

I'm not sure if I'm writing an NA--the main character is between her junior and senior year of college. Or if it might be Women's fiction because there's two alternate viewpoints of the same character--her senile grandmother.

See, the main character, Emma, is finding letters from her grandmother's younger years that tell her own story.

And then there are times the older woman has her own senile st...

Trimming The Tree

I love Christmas. There, I said it. I love the lights. I love the songs. I love seeing the brightness of a child's eyes when they get to the front of the line to see Santa Claus. I don't love the crowded stores so much, especially when I'm trying to find just one more thing, but I don't mind it so much when I'm just window shopping.

My favorite part of the holiday season, though, is the Saturday/Sunday after Thanksgiving because that is when we trim our tree.

I've always had a fake tree, and I...

Words, Words, Words...

I am a word freak, a language maven, a…a vocabularist. Okay, so maybe vocabularist isn’t actually a real word, but it should be because it describes me to a T. Last year, my pal/fellow editor/writer, Mae, came up to the lake to spend a long weekend with me. We wrote and talked and read and talked and ate and talked and drank wine and talked and… well, you get the picture.

One thing Mae and I share is a love of words. We are both fascinated with language and how we use it, especially unusual or...

A romantic weekend away

It's Monday and I'm not here yet. Because I'm not home yet. So here I am in a motel dining room somewhere in southern Indiana. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving, a great weekend. We did, though, yes, I'm ready to be home.

Life often isn't like a romance novel--have you noticed?--but sometimes, just every once in while, it is. For example, here is part of the great room in the house our family rented over the weekend.
And then, here is the house we visited while we were away for the weekend.
An...

Happy Thanksgiving

We're off to enjoy family celebrations until Monday. We hope you are, too, and that you have a splendid Thanksgiving however you choose to celebrate it. The Wranglers thank you for spending your time with us.

Thanksgiving Memories

I was going to write about writing but tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I started thinking about that--about the pies I have to bake tonight or tomorrow morning. The deviled eggs I'm prepping tonight.

Yeah-I know I'm getting off easy--thanks to my baby sister and her fine cooking and timing skills.

I'm a great baker--rarely burn anything. Down below you'll find a picture of the pumpkin whoopie pies I made yesterday after finding the recipe on www.allrecipes.com.

But, don't ask me to prepare a...
