Reading lessons with bebe
Every Wednesday since the beginning of this school year I've gone to bebe's school to help her class with reading. bebe has been a really, really good memorizer and word recognizer since pre-school, but I have seen her blossom so much over the past few months that I am blown away. Books have always been part of her life. During the lo-o-ong nights as a newborn I would read or sing with her to settle her down.
She carried around those board-books with a picture and single word on the pages so l...

A snowy day
Sometimes on snowy days when I don't feel like writing or the words won't come or I am stalled by the seemingly endless waiting that is part of My Life in Publishing, I do this.
Other times, I do this.
And sometimes I go on a binge and do this.
The blankets and gowns are for children who are ill in hospitals. The pillowcases go to shelters for the homeless or the abused. I also make pillows for breast cancer survivors, turbans for chemo patients, and tote bags for hospital patients to carry thin...

2015--The Year of Determination
Today it's my turn to share my word for the year. And after much thought and consideration, I choose Determined.
And Snoopy was only a mild influence. How could I refuse that face???
But, seriously...
As many of you may or may not know, I am a procrastinator.
I am not just a your basic run-of-the-mill blow stuff off type of person, I am a world-class procrastinator.
And this is the year that I am going to try and break through that mode. To that end, I am determined to:
Finish a marketab...

My Word for 2015
Liz started this week off with a post about her word for the year, and I thought I'd add mine in...because there is a word that has been in my head for a couple of weeks now, and I am making that my word for 2015. A word that I'll reflect on, a word that I will use to embrace even those trying times. That word is ENJOY.
Last week I posted about taking the time to really be in the moment - the moments with family and friends, of course, but also those odder moments when you know you should be fo...

My word for the year--what's yours?
Happy New Year to everyone. I hope 2015 is your happiest, best time ever. Do you do resolutions? Or do you do, like so many have said this year, “intentions”? I don’t care that much for the intentions meme because it just makes me think of the old “road to hell” saying and I’ve had enough good intentions to make that a scary thought. I don’t make resolutions because that is just setting myself up to...

The Dawn of 2015
I'm up early this morning and have yet to contemplate what I want in 2015. I'll tell you my word next week--once I figure it out. Last night I went to bed early so I could get up earlier and bake a loaf of banana bread before I head to work. I tried this new recipe with a cream cheese filling and my family is in love. I think they are letting the bananas go over-ripe on purpose so I have to make the bread.
But during the night, I kept waking up with notes for a book. I wanted...

A New Year's Resolution...Of Sorts
I love this picture...and it's kind of a poignant reminder because its front-and-center in my calendar - the picture on the page facing my birthday week. Which was well over 2 months ago, but I'd marked it as a reminder and this morning the marker kind of flipped itself so I saw it again.I like the pic not just because the image is one of my favorite things to do - hang out on a hammock/in the pool/lazing around - in my summer downtime. But because of the quote that goes along with it:
spend t...
