Mantisfly
Mantisflies are neither related to mantids, nor flies, but are more related to lacewings. Their praying mantis-like claws are an example of convergent evolution, by which unrelated organisms develop resembling structural characteristics in response to similar needs.

They should make a positivity scale. It’s like a scale to weigh yourself, but instead of your weight, it gives you a little happy message when you step on it.

Life tip: if someone ever offers you Cuban coffee, drink that shit. It’s out of this world. I’m pretty sure a person could live off it for several weeks.

Goliathus goliathus
…a species of Goliath...

…a species of Goliath beetle that ranges from western to eastern equatorial Africa. G.goliathus inhabits equatorial forests and sub-equatorial savannas. Like other members of the genus Goliathus this species is very large with some individuals growing up to four inches long! Despite this species menacing size it has a sweet tooth and will feed primarily on fruits and tree sap. Male G.goliathus posses a Y-shaped horn on their head, this horn is used in combat with other males who intrude on their feeding sites or mates.

Have you ever seen a baby horseshoe Crab (Limulus sp.) before? They are tiny little things, that within a few weeks will grow so much every time they molt (change the exoskeleton), measuring up to 60cm in length, plus the female can lay up to 60,000 eggs at once.

Don’t forget, kids—horseshoe crabs aren’t actually crabs! They are in fact more closely related to arachnids such as spiders and scorpions.

If, like me, you can watch people die in horror movies til the cows come home, but completely lose it if someone were to hurt a cow/animal (or if, unlike me, you have children), I recommend Does the Dog Die. It lists many, many movies, and rates them according to what happens to animals (not just dogs).

We started a horror movie where a little girl was killed by a dog. We stopped watching because bad things happen to animals in it, and started watching a different horror movie with a little girl…and there was a nearly identical dog! For a moment my brain was like…b’uh???
