1) Writing is like what to your soul?
Happiness to my soul. I don’t think I could ever not write. I am constantly bombarded by stories, ideas, and have to put those words on paper. I’m a full-time author so it matters a lot more right now, but I always felt like it was my career, even when I was working a 9-5.
2) What is your favorite quote from an elder (like mom, aunt, grandmother)?
“FIDO” It means F@ck It and Drive On. No matter what happens, no matter how bad things get, push through it. You have to live, and if you aren’t dead, you don’t have a choice. No point in getting so down you can’t get back up. That’s big for me. Thanks Momma for that one.
3) What was a memorable reader fan moment?
I took my son to get tested for his entrance into school, and I was bummy that day, not feeling that well at all. So the lady sees my name as I wrote all of his information down (because I use my real name when I write) and said my first name was pretty distinctive and would I mind her asking me a question. Of course I said sure, and she asked me if I wrote books. When I told her I did, she pulled out Claimed, the print copy of my Claimed Series. I was floored. She asked for my autograph and wanted a picture. I obliged to both and then let my son finish his testing. It wasn’t until I got outside until I burst into tears. Someone loved my words that much. It was mindblowing.
4) Was there any special/unusual experience while writing or researching this book?
Hmmm, maybe researching into different vampire lore and realizing there are people in the word with a real disorder where they are photosensitive and need to get regular blood transfusions. Can you imagine them in the past, without that knowledge, how people would have viewed them? That’s the basis of vampirism and I love that.
5) Do you have any traditions or customs once you’ve completed writing a book?
Yes, I take (try to take) a week off, and then start the next one. It’s the only time I’m okay with slacking off and not writing some bit of words. It’s a good time for me, and I usually reward myself doing teasers and book trailers, which is all fun for me.

1) Do you feel like you’ve “made it”?
I’ve made it in that I’m following my dream. I’m not at the beginning of the journey with wishes, hopes and dreams of doing this. However as a seasoned professional in this business, no I haven’t made it. Everyone has his/her yard stick to measure that moment. And I know from my goals that I’m still striving for that sweet spot.
2) Who is your favorite writer of all time?
Don’t have one. I have authors who I adore, and have a special place in my heart. Sometimes I may read an author for that particular phase in my life, but I’m no longer connected to his/her writing. Doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the work or the author.
3) Ever fall in public?
Yep, I’ve fallen, stumbled, tripped in public. The older I get the less concerned I am about who saw it. Although nowadays, people have no problem taking an unsolicited photo/video of someone and placing it on their FB site for a laugh fest.
4) What is your New Year’s Resolution?
Live simply, with purpose and appreciation.

Bissap, which is made from hibiscus, sugar and water
Jus de Bissap:
Ingredients:
Two or three cups of dried hibiscus flowers
One or two cups of sugar
Optional flavorings: sprig of mint, ½ teaspoon vanilla extract, ½ teaspoon grated fresh ginger root, 1 teaspoon orange-flower water, ½ cup lemon juice, 1 cup pineapple or orange juice
Directions:
Briefly rinse the dried flowers in cool water
In a saucepan, heat two quarts of cold water. As soon as the water begins to boil, add the dried hibiscus leaves. Immediately remove from heat and let the flowers steep for ten minutes. Pour the water from the pot into a pitcher using a strainer to separate the flowers from the water. Be sure not to pour any of the flower sediment into the pitcher. Stir in the sugar. Add any other flavorings, if desired.
Add ice and chill completely. May be served over ice.
The juice can be prepared double strength, by using only half as much water. The resulting Jus de Bissap can be mixed with seltzer water, ginger ale, or lemon-lime soda. Jus de Bissap can also be mixed in cocktails.

Sitting at his desk, Folger leaned his forearms against it and folded his hands together. “I’ll start by telling you the investigation is at the Norling Lighthouse.”
Excitement sparked within her at the name, and she couldn’t help but smile wide. “Folger! I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to investigate Norling since I was a teenager.”
Folger chuckled. “I know, which is why you’d be the perfect person for the job.”
“Exactly what does the client want?” The lighthouse was known to be haunted by three different ghosts, but it was rumored to be connected to the pirates who came through Noble during the summer months.
“The interest is in the ghost who walks the lighthouse, but the other ghosts should be noted as well. The most important thing for him, our client, is to find the lighthouse keeper’s journal, because he believes it’s somehow connected the pirate legend.”
The joy that was coursing through her drained away, and dread took its place. She understood now why both he and Arabella had kept the client’s name from her—it wasn’t a Noble resident. Their client was a legend-hunter: a person who hunted myths of the dead for profit.
“Kate, look at me.”
She met Folger’s gaze, which was filled with understanding.
“It’s Murphy O’Keefe.”
Her throat went dry and refused to work. Murphy was the one person on the face of the planet she never wanted to see again. Their last encounter was so engrained into memory, all she had to do was think about it and she was right back there in the moment, feeling the anger at his betrayal all over again.
“He has presented enough facts to the town council they’ve agreed to allow him to dig deeper into the lighthouse keeper, who, as you know, is the one haunting the lighthouse itself.” Folger leaned back in his chair. “They had a stipulation—Revenant Investigations is to send someone with him to document the investigation and help him search. They asked specifically for you since you know the history of the lighthouse and the pirates better than all of Noble, save Doyle,” he was the head of the Historical Society, “—but if you don’t want to do this, I’ll understand.”
Kate took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. She swallowed hard, the motion near painful. “Does he,” she cleared her throat, “have to be at the lighthouse? Can I investigate by myself or with another team member?”
Folger shook his head. “No. He has to be there—it was his stipulation. However, if you feel it necessary to bring in another member of the team, that’s what will be done.”
Kate crossed her legs, wondering what to do. This case was a dream case for her. She practically begged the Historical Society every year to let her go in for even just one night. But to deal with Murphy? She’d trusted him as a friend and teammate before she started with Revenant and he’d betrayed her. Gutted her, to be more exact. But still, the Norling Lighthouse…
What if she never got another chance to investigate?
“He can’t run with the goods, so to speak? He has an ironclad agreement with the council?”
Folger handed her a piece of paper. “I have the entire document on file, but that’s really all you need to see.”
She began to read it, very carefully.
“In summary, it states that Murphy cannot use any of the findings for profit. That includes documents, journals, jewelry, or any other historical artifact relating to the pirates of Emerald Bay and those who dwelled in the lighthouse, or once dwelled where the lighthouse and the keeper’s house now stand.”
That’s exactly what the paper she was holding stated. She’d read it four more times before handing it back to Folger. “No profit.”
“Not a penny. All he’ll receive is credit for helping find anything we don’t already know for a fact. He can’t even sell the story, Kate—Noble will control how everything will be announced and released.”
So Murphy would only get credit… Kate took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “I’ll do it, Folger. I’ll take the case.”

Am I up first, again….GREAT! (sarcasm abounds)
1) Do you listen to music or watch TV when you write?
I listen to music. Sometimes I listen to particular songs on repeat while writing because they say something to me about the character. For example, for One Hour Girl I listened to Axela by Robert Raimon Roy. That just, oh man, speaks to me about Celeste and Royce. It’s him talking to her and that’s pure and simple.
2) What or who inspired the creation of the hero?
It depends on the hero. For Royce, it was Batman, true story. Look at that broken billionaire playboy that has so many levels, and is stuck in his past. He couldn’t save his parents so he saves Gotham out of that. Royce is a bunch like that. I don’t want to give too much away, but Royce didn’t save someone when he was younger, and Celeste becomes a project for him.
3) What or who inspired the creation of the heroine?
Celeste came from me, pure and simple. She’s the victim of a traumatic past very similar to mine, and I wanted to give other women a voice who’ve gone through domestic violence or child abuse. I wanted them to understand that they can find love and learn to love themselves, because I did.
4) Do you have a special place where you write?
Or create a special vibe for your space? Not really, my laptop and music are enough for me. As long as I can zone out, I’m good. If I’m in a quiet house or room, then I don’t even need to have my music on.
5) What makes you laugh out loud?
Stuff like #ThanksgivingClapBack on Instagram or #NoChill. I love hilarious memes and stand-up comedy. I’m a little off kilter with my sense of humor and that works for me.

1) Are you a panster or plotter?
I used to write without a plot when I first started and then I went to tons of workshops where I learned to plot. Now I’m back to being more organic and only having an outline to guide, but allowing some creative freedom to get the story down.
2) Do you think of your heroine or hero first?
I think of the character who has the most to win or lose. Sometimes, there is no gender in the beginning, as Icreate the problems. I then will decide if it will be a male or female centered story. For one story, I took all the usual male traits and gave it to the female. Then the significant other is created to complement, as an opposite. And then secondary characters are created to help or even hinder the protagonist’s goals.
3) What is necessary for you to get some good writing done?
Just the determination that I wouldn’t be disturbed. I may plan my day to minimize distractions, but life happens. However, I may choose not to react to the issues until I’m good and ready. I don’t have young children so I don’t have necessary responsibilities.
4) Ever trash large chunks of writing?
Yes, all the time. I don’t get all wigged out about it. I know that I may toss stuff. I shrug and move on.
5) Cats or dogs?
I grew up with dogs. Lately, it’s been cats. I can deal with both, although I’m allergic to cats. I’ve built somewhat of a tolerance for mine. But which I prefer? I’m neutral. They both are high maintenance in their own way.

of him in the swirling mist at the back of the club’s main room. Marcus
disappeared.
When she reached where she’d last seen him a shiver spiked
up her back. The mist was freezing cold, the air thick with potent. Anna turned
away as a weird fear gripped her. She practically ran back to the bar, weaving
through the groups of patrons, and muttering, “Sorry,” as she knocked into one,
splashed the drink from the glass of another, until she stood in front of
Ethan.
His gaze mesmerized her. She wasn’t even sure she actually
heard his voice, but somehow he soothed her.
“Anna, it’s time you went home now. You want to go home. You
have work to do transcribing the interview with the band. Everything’s fine.”
She smiled at him. “I’m off now. Thank you for answering my
questions. Thank Marcus for me. He left.” She gestured toward where she’d run
from. A flutter of fear rose in her stomach and then Ethan was leaning forward,
his blue eyes capturing her so that she dreamily froze to soak up his low
voiced words.
“Goodnight, Anna.”
She
left the club happily, a faraway feeling carrying her along …

Guinness stout is made from water, barley, roast malt extract, hops, and brewer’s yeast.
A portion of the barley is roasted to give Guinness its dark colour and characteristic taste.
The draught beer‘s thick, creamy head comes from mixing the beer with nitrogen when poured.
Although Guinness may appear to be black, it is officially a very dark shade of ruby.
Guinness is frequently used as an ingredient in recipes like french toast and beef stew.
The Guinness harp motif is modelled on the Trinity College Harp.
The harp faces right instead of left to differentiate it from the Irish coat of arms.

“Come with me, Zach.”
“Hush…” Zach whispered. He wanted to treasure the moment as much as he could but it was him who pulled back first. “Let’s go,” he said harshly. “You will miss your bus.” His heart bled at how Drew stared at him in confusion, hurt in his eyes. But he knew he had to let go now or he would never be able to.
He helped Drew with his bags and grasped Drew’s jacket sleeve, hugging him tight and kissing him again, not caring who might be watching. Drew clung onto him just like he used to during those cold nights whenever they were alone in a motel room, and squeezed him for the last time, pulling back. Their eyes met.
“I’ll come back for you.”
Long after the bus was gone, Zach was still standing at the bus station, his heart heavy. Drew was his brother and his lover. Zach realized the unnatural nature of their relationship, but he couldn’t bring himself to care. They only had each other in their lives.
Zach remembered one night. He had been nine at that time and Drew had been five. Rain had been pouring down the Earth for like hours now but there was no sign of stopping from the sound of it. Zach shot a wary gaze to the wide window and the thin lacey curtains covering it—a useless thing in his humble opinion—they could not stop him and Drew from staring right through the rain, let alone from the thunder and lightning that cracked almost every five minutes.
Alone only with little Drew in their small apartment—their father had yet to return, Zach did not dare shut his eyes even for a second. Not in this weather. Not when closing his eyes meant letting Drew out of his sight, although the kid was curled up right here with him, never far from his embrace.
