#NewReleaseAlert Linda Gets Her Groove Thing by @JDFrettier

LINDA GETS HER GROOVE THING

The Green Room Chronicles, book 2

by JD Frettier

Genre: Spicy Romantic Comedy

Linda White is on a mission to sic Karma on her cheating, ex-husband Grey in this laugh out loud second installment of the erotically incorrect Green Room Chronicles.

After being blindsided with infidelity and financial devastation, recently widowed Linda has sworn off men forever. Nearing middle age, her dream of retiring early from the airlines is no longer within reach, so, she retreats into the world of battery operated boyfriends to deal with the stress. When the one purchase Linda counts on for a long haul flight to Paris backfires, she passes away suddenly… from a conniption fit, of all things!

Linda lands in the infamous Green Room where she’s met by veteran Green Roomers, Dee Smeltzer and Bonnie Hampton. Always up for stirring the pot and having a good time, they introduce Linda to the finer aspects of the Green Room and Edwina Starr, the renowned sorceress who has a few Karmatic spells up her sleeve. Let’s just say, ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.’

Join Linda, Dee, Bonnie, and a few familiar Green Room faces—old and new—for a frolicking green time that will leave you in stitches as Karma comes full circle.

It’s Halloween and I’m packing for Paris. Before getting all excited for me, let me explain. Yes, it is Paris, but I’m a flight attendant and this is my job. The trip is not for pleasure, but the contents in the package I’m waiting for will insure my trip is full of pleasure anyway. The kind of pleasure that doesn’t cheat on you, doesn’t break your heart, and doesn’t leave you wallowing in debt. More about that later…

The grandfather clock in the den rings its familiar Big Ben chime. It’s straight up twelve noon. At the same time, the ding dong of the doorbell sounds and I rush to answer it. Left eye closed, I squint and peer through the peephole. My heart skips a beat at the sight of the younger-than-me UPS dude on the other side of the door. Tanned and muscular, he looks damn hot in those dark brown shorts. Tucked under his arm is a little brown package. He’s writing on his clipboard while I watch with excitement. When I don’t open the door, he grabs the knocker and gives it three loud repetitive raps which startle me into action. He’s pleasant when I answer.

“Afternoon, ma’am. I have a package for a…” he glances at his board, “…Linda White. It needs a signature.”

My cheeks splitting from my huge smile, I gush, “I’m Linda White.”

He extends the clipboard and smiles back. “All righty, then. Sign on the dotted line, Ms. White, and this baby is all yours.”

In a flash my signature is scribbled on the document. Heart beating in anticipation now that this little beauty is in my possession, my foot closes the door while I’m thinking, Honey, you have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this. Back braced against the door, I take a deep breath. Ordered weeks ago, I am dying to meet my new travel companion, BOB.

After dashing to the kitchen, I slice open the top of the package with a paring knife. My G-Spot stimulator is calling to me! I’ve timed this purchase, and was assured delivery would be made before five p.m. today. I’d even been tracking the package online all week in my anticipation. This was going to be a long haul flight, and I wasn’t looking forward to tackling it without some kind of relief.

The small box packed inside bubble wrap has the item color checked as ‘black’. I’d ordered hot pink, so I grab my glasses to read the label closer. My blood pressure rises when I see that what I’ve received is not my G-spot stimulator, “guaranteed to make you squirt with pleasure,” but, rather, a butt plug.

DESPERATELY SEEKING SIXTY-NINE

The year is 1969. Though there is war and unrest in the world, on August 15th, on a farm in upstate New York, a little concert will go down in history as the most famous music festival of our time: Woodstock.

It also happens to be the day Bonnie McMillan and Peter Hampton meet and begin their free-spirited love-filled journey with each other. What happens at Woodstock stays at Woodstock, right? Nope!

Fast forward forty-seven years. Bonnie unexpectedly passes after a night of hot sex and is whisked up to Purgatory, ‘The Green Room’ as they call it. Bonnie’s best friend meets her at the pearly green gates and the fun begins, from body sculpting to channeling.

Follow Bonnie on her erotically incorrect quest to re-connect with the love of her life. Or at the very least, make sure the sex toys are hidden before the kids start sorting through her things!

JD Frettier is the nom de plume of USA Today Bestselling Author Jennifer Theriot. Being a child of the 1960s and Woodstock era, she was elated when a quirky couple spoke to her, requesting their love story be told. It was an offer she couldn’t refuse, so she decided to venture into the world of paranormal via ‘channeling’ with her debut novella, Desperately Seeking Sixty-Nine. JD’s laptop and mind are now open to new characters. She’s already interviewed and selected one for the next installment of her Green Room Chronicles….so stay tuned!

Our Mission

Every woman deserves quality breast health care. Every woman deserves The Rose.

The Rose reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics, and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay. The Rose addresses any barrier that might keep a woman from caring for her own needs.  Studies show women often put personal needs on hold while tending to the needs of others. Many women cite cost and lack of access as reasons they delay preventive services. Yet, early detection mammography screenings are the most powerful weapons in the fight against breast cancer – which is 98% curable when detected early. For the woman who puts everyone else ahead of her own care, The Rose encourages her to take care of Me2.

Every service offered by The Rose is available to the uninsured through one of many sponsorship programs. In fact the whole purpose of the Empower Her® Sponsorship Program is to ensure any woman has access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis and care. From the initial screening mammogram, through diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound and biopsies as well as access to treatment — all are part of the “quality breast health care” offered at The Rose.

Same day diagnosis, special programs for young women, on-site physicians dedicated to breast health care, advanced digital technology — all reflect The Rose’s emphasis on quality and excellence. The Rose collaborates with the best medical organizations in Texas and reach women from Matagorda to Shelby Counties.

FAQs

Q: Who is at risk for breast cancer?

A: All women are at risk for breast cancer. The majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no other known risk factors.

Q: What are the risk factors that put a woman at higher risk for breast cancer?

A: A personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, a relative who had breast cancer before menopause or in both breasts, a personal history of breast biopsy showing atypical hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ, being young at the time of your first period, starting menopause later, never being pregnant or having your first child after age 30 and having the mutated breast cancer gene BRCA1 or BRCA2

Q: What steps can I take?

A: Age 20 -39: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations and have a clinical breast examination every year. Women under age 40 with a family history of breast cancer and other concerns about their personal risk should consult a trained medical professional about risk assessment and when to begin screening mammography.

Age 40 and older: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations, have a clinical breast examination every year, and an annual mammogram.

Q: When should I do a breast self-examination?

A: The best time to do a breast self-examination is the same time each month. For menstruating women, the self-exam should be performed after the menstrual period has ended when the breasts are less tender.

Q: What is a clinical breast exam (CBE)?

A: A clinical breast exam is performed by a trained medical professional, includes visual examination and palpation (feeling) of the entire breast and underarm area, and is performed in both sitting and lying down positions. Women age 40 and older should have both a clinical breast examination and mammogram each year.

This has to be one of the weirdest relationships on the books.

Deena Rae is a loner—a strong, independent woman who needs nobody. There is the possible exception of Mr. Fine Ass, with whom she’s begun a strange courtship. He’s certainly a nice diversion from her new job with Pierce Securities and her first solo gig with the company.

Slade is in debt to a man nobody wants to owe, his sperm donor just died, and somehow, Deena Rae knows the half-brother Slade’s never met. He can’t keep his eyes off his gorgeous bitch of a neighbor who keeps her drapes open, even when she’s “entertaining.” He’s told her, though, he’s a train wreck and they shouldn’t get involved.

Deena Rae is riding Slade’s train all the way to the end, whether she likes it or not. Slade is working for her mark, and her mark suddenly wants her dead.

And Slade’s the man who’s got to do it.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Writing professionally since 2008, LeTeisha Newton’s love of romance novels began long before it should have. After spending years sneaking reads from her grandmother’s stash, she finally decided to pen her own tales. As many will do during their youth, she bounced from fantasy, urban literature, mainstream, interracial, paranormal, heterosexual, and LGBT works until she finally rested in contemporary romance.

LeTeisha is all about deep angst and angry heroes who take a bit more loving to smooth their rough edges. Love comes in many sizes, shapes, and colors, as well as with—or without—absolute beauty and fairy tale sweetness. She writes the darker tales because life is hard … but love is harder.

To #PageFlip, Or Not to Page Flip, I’ve Got an Answer to that Question!

Hey All!

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve just written a pure blog post, but I felt the need to do so now. There has been quite an uproar in the Kindle world over the Page Flip phenomenon. For those who aren’t aware of what page flip is:

From Amazon.com

Page Flip is a reimagined Kindle navigation experience that makes it easy to explore books while always saving your place. Page Flip is available on select Kindle E-readers, Fire tablets, and the free Kindle app for iOS and Android.Save your place

Want to reference a chart or map on another page while you’re reading? Page Flip “pins” your current page to the side of the screen when you swipe away from it to explore other parts of the book. Tap your pinned page to instantly jump back to it.

Get a bird’s eye view of the book

Looking for a picture or a passage you’ve highlighted? Zoom out to get a bird’s eye view of the book and quickly find what you’re looking for.

Go ahead, explore!

At a glance, easily recognize specific pages as you jump around. Pictures, charts, your highlights, and the layout of each page are easy to see with Page Flip’s pixel-accurate thumbnails that automatically adjust as you change your font and margin settings.

Page Flip is available on millions of books, with more being added every day. On the Kindle eBook Store page for a given book, look for “Page Flip: Enabled” in the features list.

Sounds pretty amazing, right? The problem that some Indie authors have been finding, however, is that with Page Flip enabled they haven’t been getting accurate reports on their page reads. In fact, some have even report no page reads on individual book placed in KU. You could see how this could be a massive problem. Without page reads, and with exclusivity to Kindle, authors could be losing out on the very blood of their business that allows them to continue working. At the end of the day, whether we write for passion or for monetary gain, we are a business, and must act that way. The decision on whether this practice hurts the author has to be addressed either way. What did I do, then, to weigh in on this? I experimented.

I’ve got an amazing formatter, E-Book Builders, who happens to have a service for her authors to disable Page Flip. Not only is she the only formatter I have come across offer such a service, she does it right, and I’ve got the numbers to prove it. Gotta send all sorts o love to her for allowing me to try this and show the work. You’re the best, D!

I uploaded brand spanking new versions of my books of the Lost Series: One Hour Girl, Scarred, and Phenomenal, as test subjects on April 13th, 2017. It took about 12 hours for Amazon to upload the new copies and have them available for update and download.

My numbers on April 13th, so you can see.

Ok, so on April 12th you could see I didn’t have very many page reads, the day before I uploaded. On April 13th, I had a spike, and it tapered by April 14th. For those who needs some numbers, look here.

April 14th Numbers

April 15th Numbers

April 16th Numbers

April 17th Numbers

I then had a taper off, as will happen, and then a spike again this weekend. What I can say, the numbers for these particular reads jumped up the MOST during the spike. That is to say, the books without Page Flip were where my KNOLL/KEN page reads were from. What’s the answer to the question on Page Flip then? Don’t do it. Contact a formatter (I love mine, but I’m willing to share E-Book Builders with EVERYONE, and have to shout out Beyond Def Lit for sending me her way to ensure I had the best product, on top of cleaning my words) to make sure your book is getting everything it deserves. Look, this is your business, your readers, and your life. Take it by the horns with the same exuberance you jumped into Indie publishing. You won’t regret it.

Later!

To

be given visions of the future is no small gift, but gifts such as these do not

come without a burden…

Blurb
Corrine, a Fae Seer, has spent a long time

running. She finds sanctuary with a wolf pack after the Goddess sends her a

vision that threatens to rob her of her mate. Her actions to save him come with

grave consequences. When one mate turns into two, Corrine returns through the

Veil seeking help to reverse what she’s done.

Wolf Alpha Gabe Errikson has spent

years pining for a woman who was never meant to be his—or at least not

according to his wolf, but he would give up anything, including a traditional

mating to be with the woman he loves.  When he finds out Corrine has been keeping

something from him since day one, he wonders if he will be able to forgive her.

            Braxas Beaumont, a cougar Alpha,

knew from the moment he laid eyes on Corrine that she was his mate. He also

discovers quickly that his long-time friend, Gabe, is hopelessly in love with

her as well, but Braxas isn’t accustomed to sharing, especially when it comes

to his mate.

            Can two powerful Alphas come

together to save the woman they are fated to from a darkness that is unlike

anything they have ever known? Or will they be bound to their fate?

we go, there is something I have been meaning to do for quite a long time,

“Oh?”
Braxas let go of her

hand as well, and she looked from one to other with suspicion.
“I think you need to be

“I believe you,” she

threw in quickly. Braxas assumed that she did not need her seer abilities to

know where this was heading.
Gabe however, continued

as if she hadn’t spoken. He held up his right hand in a fist, his knuckles

facing forward and popped his forefinger up. “You ran from us.” Next up came

his middle finger. “You didn’t tell us where you were going.” His ring finger

followed. “You lied.” Then his pinky. “You’re very haughty.” And finally his

thumb. “You are way too stubborn for your own good.” He tilted his now open and

raised palm to the right, poised to strike a particularly beautiful derriere.
“Anything else?” she

responded in exactly the haughty manner that Gabe’s fourth finger had coincided

with.
Gabe smiled slyly.

“That’s reason enough for now.” He lowered his hand and placed it on his knee.

“Hike up your dress and come lie across my knees.”
Corrine leaped to her

feet. “So you can spank me like some wayward child? I think not.”
“No, so I can spank you

like a lover spanks his woman when she aggravates the hell out of him.”
Corrine’s mouth opened on

a silent O, and a blush swept over her face and neck. Braxas inhaled her sweet

scent of arousal and felt the pressure of his cock straining against the zipper

of his jeans. Gods, he wanted to be inside of her. “That shade of rose looks

lovely on your cheeks.”
Corrine’s head whipped

in his direction. “You’re just going to let him do this to me?”
Braxas chuckled. “Let

him? Hell, I encourage him. I have no doubt that all three of us are going to

enjoy it immensely.” He smiled widely at her. “Especially if that lovely rose

color blooms across your ass as well.”
She opened her mouth as

if she had something to say, but shut it just as quickly. She took one step

towards Gabe and paused, looking from one to the other. Braxas knew she was

excited by the prospect of being spanked by Gabe while he watched, but he also

sensed her trepidation. In the end, fear won out, and their little doe,

temporarily mesmerized by headlights, broke her own spell and bolted out the

door.
Gabe stared at the empty

doorway as he spoke. “Tell me something, Braxas. Do cougars like the chase as

much as wolves do?”
Braxas smiled widely

again, but more for himself since Gabe still stared straight ahead. “Indeed we

do.”
It took only a few

seconds before the pair of them, in unison, chased after her.

Although ultimately her dream is to be able to write

full time on a sandy beach with a Mai Tai at hand, she is quite happy to fit

About Sarah

Marsh:

Sarah Marsh was born in British Columbia where she still lives. She has only recently began

her writing career, finding it the perfect outlet for taking the edge off a

nine to five office job. She’s been a science fiction and romance junkie for

years and when her imagination started to take the characters she’d read about

even further in their adventures, she decided to try writing something of her

own.

Sarah’s also a former pastry chef and spends a lot of

time cooking and baking for friends and family as well as painting and

knitting. Her biggest weaknesses are animals of any kind … she even loves the

ones that wake you up at four in the morning because they can almost see the

bottom of their food dish.

         When

it comes to life in general, she’s a big believer that laughter is the best

medicine and that there’s no such thing as too much love, which is why she’s

such a sucker for a happy ending.

EXCERPT

“What’s your name, sub?” I asked.

“Li … Lisa.”

I narrowed my gaze and stared down at her. “If you say so, Bella.”

“Bella?” Her head tilted to the side, her eyes slightly widened. “Is that a compliment?”

“You’re Italian, aren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“Then that’s what I’ll call you.” A light flush spread across her high cheekbones and she bit her lower lip. Goddamn cock sprung to full attention. “First thing you ought to know—and should have learned long before entering this club as a sub—your gaze belongs on your Dom’s boots, your knees on the floor.”

The bulge in my leathers snagged her attention as her head lowered and she hesitated. A shudder rippled down through her, but she sank to her knees with practiced ease, a waft of subtle sweetness, what had to be expensive perfume, floating around me. My mouth watered. Long, glossy dark hair cascaded around her downturned face. Her shoulders remained back and straight.

Trying to ignore the press of my goddamn zipper into my cock—and prickle of unease tingling the back of my neck—I glanced across the room at Devon, one of the few Doms who didn’t mind switching.

He lounged in a chair, drink in hand, but otherwise unoccupied. Bella’s appearance had already drawn his attention. He gawked like a starstruck lover at the goddess kneeling at my feet.

The idea of sharing the tasty morsel of a pseudo-sub twisted my gut, but the thought that touching her skin would definitely cause trouble overrode my Neanderthal side.

As though feeling my stare, Devon lifted his gaze to mine.

I quirked a brow in invitation.

He shot out of his seat with a shit-eating grin and strode across the room. He stood a good half-foot shorter than me, but we both had blue eyes, the same light hair, and square jaw… We’d enjoyed our fair share of women fantasizing about brothers.

“Master Devon, care to join us this evening?”

#NewRelease Alert: Undone by Destiny by @AllysonYoung

Blurb:
Desiree

lost her heart to Tahl before he moved away, pursuing a redheaded shifter.

Devastated, she somehow managed to hope he got what he needed. Except, being

part Fae, she now believes she’s cursed him. Tahl has returned, unmated,

refusing to share what transpired.

When

Tahl pursues her, realizing what she has always meant to him, Desi desperately

avoids, her guilt—and refusal to be second choice—a deterrent to her heart. Her

twenty-fifth birthday approaches, and hot from the chase, Tahl corners her. He

triggers her heat and she must allow him to assuage it, however outraged and

resentful she might be.

The

redhead follows Tahl, refusing to accept his mating—he can’t be bonded should

his mate die… The males fail to thwart the nefarious plan, and the true

nature of both females is revealed. Only one bitch can win and keep Tahl’s

heart, and Desi won’t lose.

Excerpt:
Now that he was here, he was stalling, and he grimaced. Nothing much

scared him, but the female presumably inside the cabin… He forced his feet to

carry up the short set of stairs and opened the front door with a confidence he

didn’t feel. Until he saw her.
Huddled on the couch, facing him, was his future mate, the most

beautiful thing he’d ever seen—or scented. Cheeks flushed, hair now streaming

in wild abandon and clothing awry, she glared at him, her rage muted by the

trembling need radiating from her tense body.
“Baby. I got here as soon as I could. I—” His attempt at an apology

was overridden as Desi lurched to her feet.
“It’s not fucking fair that I have no recourse in this, Tahl. It’s a

done deal because you decided. You.

And now I’m stuck with you. I have to submit to your … physical attentions so I

can function.” She laughed, a harsh mimicry of her usual, musical burst of sound.

The one he hadn’t heard in his vicinity for a very long time but had never

forgotten. The dichotomy scalded his senses.
She stood, her body shaking, the hormonal flux pouring off of her,

and he balled his fists to keep his hands to himself. A vastly angry Desiree

was an incredibly beautiful and appealing female and his wolf seethed with

impatience against her siren call. Tahl shoved his animal back and cudgeled his brain for something that would

soothe her. Some sense of self-preservation kept him from offering his heart.

It was quite likely she’d carve it out of his chest and eat it with a spoon.
His breath stuttered as with awkward, jerky movements, she yanked at

the front of her silky shirt, the fine fabric rending beneath her impatient

hands. She threw the remnants in the general direction of the couch before

working at the zipper on her little skirt. The garment slid over her thighs to

pool around her ankles, his avid stare tracking it as the black lace of her

matching panties was revealed as well as the long length of her legs. She

stepped out, nearly losing her balance, and kicked the material away.
This was so not how he imagined it. Throat dry, he closed the

distance. “Desiree. Easy, baby. Let me—”
“You’ve done enough, Tahl,” she coughed out between shuddering

breaths. “Now do what nature intended.” Her pretty bra popped open and her

breasts were displayed. Sitting high on her narrow torso, they were in perfect

proportion to the rest of her, though visibly swollen with need, the dark

nipples beaded tightly.
Everything in him screamed to take her right fucking now, his cock

so hard it hurt, his wolf groveling. Groveling.

With inner strength he somehow drew from somewhere, perhaps his conscience,

maybe his aching heart, he wrestled his libido into submission and hugged her

instead. Trying to offer her comfort. His eyes closed against the intense draw

of her soft, silky skin, the heat of her radiating intensely to the very marrow

of his bones.
Desiree wrestled free, wild-eyed and flushed. Surely no other male

would have been so fucking stupid as to trigger his future mate’s heat on the

side of a goddamn highway and then leave her unfulfilled? He cursed himself

again.
She scrabbled at the fine stuff of her underwear and it met the same

fate as her shirt. Tahl drank in his first sight of the female who was his, all

creamy skin and smooth curves, the soft dark hair at her apex neatly trimmed.

But she was shaking harder, out of control, the scent of her arousal

overwhelming him, and instinct took over.
With economic movements, he stripped off his own clothing. Desiree

swayed, her eyes tightly shut as she panted through the tiny whimpers falling

from her lips. He spoke her name even as he gathered her up and bore her down

on the wide, soft couch, but she wouldn’t—or couldn’t—open her eyes.
There was no time, or need, or foreplay. He’d left her too long.

Testing her preparedness with one finger, he grunted his satisfaction. Soaked.

Her thighs opened wide for him as he maneuvered between them, her arms splayed and

her head thrown back. She writhed, her wolf clearly right at the surface, and

her whimpers escalated both in volume and quantity.
Recognizing the time for fucking couldn’t be put off by

conversation, however necessary, he fit the weeping crown of his cock against

her opening. Wet, sultry heat engulfed him as he surged inside on a desperate

thrust. And froze at her muffled yelp.
“Fuck me, baby. Fuck. Me.” He wrapped her up, working his arms

beneath her shoulders to tuck her as tightly against him as he could manage

while holding his cock steady, giving her time to adjust. It was his turn to

screw his own eyes shut in order to concentrate on not moving one fucking iota.

He’d just taken her virginity, and

even his wolf paused in its desperation to claim her.

#NewRelease ALERT – No Reservations by R. E. Hargrave

NO RESERVATIONS

by R.E. Hargrave

Genre: Erotica

Selena and Dakota Derringer have been trying to get pregnant for a year without much luck. When their latest test is once again negative, they accept an invitation from old friends for an adult weekend away instead of letting it get them down.

Selena’s old college roommate Trinity Marshall, and her husband Joey, are both thrill seekers. In and out of the bedroom. When the couple suggest more than just wine and talking, will the Derringers accept their friends’ special proposition? What will come of their actions if they do?

Sometimes in life you just need to throw caution to the wind.

Let go.

Be adventurous.

Have no reservations.

Prologue

My hand shook while holding the little test stick between my legs. We had a good feeling this time considering my period was a week late. This had happened a few times in the past, but there was something about this time which had me crossing my fingers a little tighter. After tracking temperatures and scheduling appointments to have sex with each other, Dakota and I were hoping we would be on the way to parenthood at long last.

This month marked one year since we’d started trying to grow our family. I was beginning to think I shouldn’t have insisted on waiting the two years we’d put this off. Daks had been ready and willing to start the moment we were married, but he’d only been twenty-four at the time—fresh out of college—and I thought I’d known better than him what we needed because I was older.

At thirty-two, my career as a kindergarten teacher at Manteca Elementary was established. The reasoning behind my request to wait? I wanted him to have a couple years of freedom and adulthood before he buckled down to being a dad. Daks had enough on his plate getting his foot in the door as the school’s new music teacher. For over ten years, Mr. Carmichael had been the elementary music teacher, so staff and parents alike weren’t ready to see him retire. Dakota had his job cut out for him. A baby was the last thing he’d needed to worry about it.

Now that it was clear we were having trouble conceiving, I blamed my somewhat advanced age. After some discussion, we’d agreed to give it one year of trying the old-fashioned way before turning to medical intervention or discussing adoption. Daks and his sister Dylan had been adopted as infants, two years apart, from orphanages on opposite sides of the country. Though you wouldn’t know it seeing the bond they shared. I swear they were always having silent conversations; it was almost creepy. Dakota was a big proponent of adoption, for obvious reasons, and I had no doubts we’d go that route someday regardless, biological baby success or not.

Wistfully, I set the test on top of some folded toilet paper then set the timer. I avoided looking at the stick while washing my hands. To cool down, I splashed some water on my face then reached for the door. Daks was waiting for me on the other side with his arms open. His dark eyes were understanding, and showed as much worry as mine.

I gave him a nervous smile and went to him. His scent, like sunshine and sage, filled my senses while I nuzzled against his chest. Daks rubbed my back then kissed the top of my head.

“Tell me about your day, Selena,” he suggested, distracting me.

We moved to the bed. Daks got on and scooted back to the headboard before patting the spot next to him. He was still dressed for work, the pregnancy test having been our priority the moment we’d walked in the door. I stood there, admiring how good he looked. Dakota cut his brown hair extra short, keeping his curls unnoticeable, and trimmed his facial hair so that it accented his jaw line. His habit of leaving the top couple of buttons to his shirt undone was something I appreciated with regularity. It was fortunate for me that he had a nice chest and liked to show it off.

I climbed up beside him, tucking my feet underneath me, then returned my head to his chest. My hand splayed out over the soft cotton of his dress shirt, and I fingered a loose thread hanging from one of the buttons. “It was a pretty quiet day. I don’t think the kids realize they’re off next week.” I chuckled without much feeling. “Oh, and Trinity called.”

“Yeah? Everything okay? Are she and Joey having a good time in . . . where are they this time?”

“Yep, I guess. She invited us to come up to the Napa property next weekend.”

“But I thought they were on a world tour thing, and weren’t due back for a couple more months?”

Joey Marshall was an extreme bicyclist, and his wife, my best friend, had the fortune of being a freelance photographer for Sports Illustrated. Together they traveled the world looking for remote, and in my opinion insane, locations for Joey to ride while Trin recorded it all for posterity.

I shrugged, pressing the side of my breast into his muscled torso, which felt good. “All she said was that something happened while they were in Ireland and they decided to come home for a couple of weeks before picking the tour back up in Sweden. Anyway, they thought it would do us good to come have some wine, cheese and olives, and adult company. I believe her exact words were, ‘You two are overthinking this whole thing and just need to let go and be impulsive’.”

Trinity’s words had been no surprise to me. She’d always been blunt, loud, and on the lookout for the next adventure. Our sophomore year at UCLA, and second one rooming together, I became her next adventure. We were never serious about it; it was more of a friends with benefits situation. If one of us had an itch, and no current boyfriend, then we took care of each other. I’m not even sure that I could be considered bi-sexual as Trin’s kitty was the only one I’ve ever played with. Same went for her generous boobs—with the exception of my own, of course.

The egg-timer started buzzing in the bathroom, and I felt sick all of a sudden. My fist clenched the fabric of Dakota’s shirt, and I closed my eyes. “I can’t,” I whispered.

“It’s okay, Lena. I’ll go look,” he cooed by my ear.

We shared a quick hug then I leaned back, freeing him to get off the bed. While he crossed the short distance of the room, I pulled my knees up to my chest and wrapped my arms around them, holding my breath until he stepped back out.

Dakota couldn’t make eye contact with me when he did.

“A weekend away sounds like a good idea,” he mumbled then staggered out of the room, leaving me to my hopeless tears.
