The site Brenda Hiatt’s Show Me the Money is the only one of its kind that I know of, that attempts to give information about income from romance writing. It is somewhat out of date though, so I would say the money is maybe slightly better than the site indicates, for some successful publishers.

Excerpt:

Sprawling out on my borrowed sleeping bag beside the fire, I feasted my eyes on Eve as she moved with ease around our site. No fidgeting. No sidelong glances. “I can see why you love it out here.”

She tucked an escaped lock of hair behind an ear and bent over her task of wiping the blackened pot clean. “While it’s quiet at home, nothing compares to the peaceful outdoors.”

Temptation to tell her I knew of a thing or two that would compare in enjoyment rolled over me, but I refrained. Shadows lengthened across the small campground, and although we had neighbors a stone throw away, their murmuring barely reached my ears. Shrubs and trees blocked us from view, and leaning back, hands behind my head, I decided tonight, come hell or high water, I would hear Eve’s gasps, smother her moans with my lips as my hands explored her body.

Twilight hindered sight through the trees before she finished cleaning up. After hiding herself in the tent for a few minutes, she emerged with pants and clogs replacing her hiking gear. She settled onto the ground beside my knees.

I leaned up on my elbow and propped my head on my hand. “Eve.” I patted the sleeping bag I laid on. “Come up here.”

Her bottom lip sucked between her teeth as she peered at me in the growing darkness. “Why?”

“I want to kiss you.”

A gasp reached my ears, and I wished we’d brought a lantern so I could see her face. She scooted to my side, and I tugged her down to lay beside me.

Baby steps.

Inches separated our bodies, but I didn’t pull her close like I longed to do. Instead, I ran a fingertip down her cheek and neck, her pulse thrumming beneath my feather-light touch. She gazed up at me with widened eyes. Her lips parted and breathing hitched, and I held in my groan. As if my aching cock needed her encouragement.

Enjoying the tension sizzling between us, I leaned down and kissed her, and the second I swept my tongue along the seam of her lips, she moaned and shimmied closer.

Arousal rolled over me, and I clamped my arm around her waist, pressing her breasts and hips tight against me. My groan escaped into her mouth. No way in hell would I get any sleep.

Excerpt

Jake lead her into the adjoining room where a baby grand piano sat in the corner.

Turning the piano bench sideways, he sat back and motioned for her to sit in front of him. His arms slid alongside her shoulders as he reached out for the ivory bars, and he tightened his legs against her outer thighs. The heat radiating off him surrounded Emma like a blanket of safety. She snuggled up against his chest as his fingers tickled the keys.

Succumbing to the enchanting melody, her eyes fell closed. His chest pressed against her back, rising and falling as he sang out the verses he wrote just for her, simply titled, Emma’s Song. The words took her breath away how he spoke so lovingly of her through song. Each refrain more passion filled than the one before, pouring his heart out with each note. The emotions welling up inside confused her, as she let herself become entranced by his baritone voice. Fear and happiness pooled in her eyes, releasing in tears that slid over her cheeks.

They met for the first time tonight in person yet it felt like they had known each other all their lives. Their electronic relationship manifesting into something real and tangible excited her, but also scared her to death.

The keys stopped dancing, and the room held a silence marred only by the heaving of Jake’s breath. Reopening her eyes, Emma turned her head toward him. His fingertips pressed against her jaw line, guiding her head as he leaned in. Their lips met with a cautious tenderness. She swung her body around on the seat, raising her hands to encompass his neck. He pulled her closer, parting her lips as he swept his tongue over hers. An innate ache pulsed through her, taking over her self-control. His very touch tingled every nerve along the way.

She slipped her fingers through the back of his wavy hair, massaging his head in rhythm with their exploratory kisses. His breathing grew heavier, as he cradled her in his arms. A startling mixture of sharp chords rang out through the air as her back landed against the keys.

Soft laughter danced through their kiss as Jake picked her up by the hips off the bench and placed her on top of the baby grand. Her chest heaved in succession with the thumping of her heart. He stared at her with such intent she’d never seen. His intense eyes hypnotized her, holding her gaze.

“I’ve pictured this a thousand times, but nothing compares to the actual taste of your lips,” he whispered as he laid her back, brushing the chestnut locks of hair from her face. Lush lips caressed her neck, kissing the delicate skin down the plunging neckline of her dress.

Words made no sense. They circulated in her head, jumbled by the emotions coursing through her. Her body ached for him to take her completely as his hands caressed the length of her body, exploring every inch of her, memorizing every curve.

She dreamed about this moment. He wanted her as much as she wanted him. Her head screamed no, she’d only hurt him. But her heart shouted louder as she let her fingers ride up the length of his forearms, pressing against the hard muscle.

“As breathtaking as you look sprawled across my piano, I have a better idea,” he whispered.

Pulling her to him, he slid her off the piano. She wrapped her arms and legs around him as he carried her to the sofa, laying her beneath him.Carefully, he slid the silken dress above her hips, exposing her stomach where he decorated her skin with the warmth of his tongue and lips. A shiver climbed her spine releasing itself in a vocal aching of want and need.

#TasteThursday Sin’s Pleasure by LeTeisha Newton from @EvernightPub #HNH #NaughtyFairyTale

Sin'sPleasureTeaserBroken

If Sin hadn’t learned anything else in the world, it was that Fairy Godmother’s sucked, happily ever afters never happened, and she wasn’t in the mood to deal with another worthless Prince Charming who didn’t know how to keep his dick in his pants.

Yeah, she thought. Love was a bitch.

It wasn’t that she didn’t believe it could happen. Hell, she’d been the stupid little girl once, abused by her filthy step-sisters and step-mother because her father had been bespelled by the sorceress witch. Sin remembered her mother, and the relationship her mother had with Sin’s father. That had been a couple really in love, and it was the only shining example that Sin ever had in her life. Because, surely, marrying the damn Prince of Elsia had been the worst decision her now cold heart had ever made simply because a Fairy Assmother had put her damn hand in it.

It hadn’t taken long after the blissful nuptials to find Prince Charming riding good old Zel in her damn tower because they would have some privacy. Or to find him jumping Aurora’s bones because, why not, Zel’s own knight liked playing around with Mal anyway. Even Sin thought Mal was more fun and should have put a longer sleep spell on Aurora and then everyone would have been happy. The only thing a Fairy Godmother did for Sin was send her as far away from Elsia as possible, in another time and place, where she could be her own woman, and forget the need of having in man in her life.

Things were so much better now because of that–well, as long as she ignored the one man that tugged at her heartstrings and made her want to climb him.

“Sin, Ace in on stage four, and the women are going crazy,” Walter, her head of floor security said to her over the communications unit in her ear. He was a welcome distraction from the head of her overall security detail.

Or did she just think about him again? Ugh.

“Tell him there’s a Bachelorette party coming in to booth fifteen when he’s done. They have requested him personally tonight. Tell Franco that he might have to entertain Rose’s boys tonight, and have Sloane with him if they have a larger party,” Sin sent back, mentally tallying how much the private parties alone had filled her register tonight. Franco, Barbie, and Sloane were her LGBT clientele favorites, and they brought in quite a penny from drunk frat boys and corporate events. Barbie, especially, because she could give the best of both worlds. Ace was Sin’s lead stripper, and women just went gaga over his piecing blue eyes and blond curls. Something about him looking like the dude playing Achilles. Sin could appreciate the draw. He just wasn’t her type. Not rugged enough. She liked her sex rough, nasty, and just a bit dangerous. Pretty boy slick didn’t appeal. Too much like the asshole she’d left behind.

Tobias isn’t a pretty boy and can give you just what you want. Her treacherous thoughts were going to be the death of her tonight. She didn’t need to think about Tobias. She needed to work and make sure her place was going like it should be. Plus, when she was working she was the one doling out punishment to women and men alike, and Tobias didn’t take punishment. He gave it. No one touched her, not anymore, and he’d want to. A few humps in the dark had taught her that felt as empty as her farce of a marriage. She like making money and spending it. She loved fixing others, so they never had to go through what she went through. And impossible feat, but it kept her warm at night. She didn’t need him there.

“Need more vodka as bar three,” Trix, her head bartender called to her. Rule one in a strip club, have female bartenders. Women didn’t really care about standing at the bar all night ogling hot guys just within reach if there weren’t any there, and didn’t worry too much how much they were drinking.

“Then get your ass over to the back and get it,” Sin ordered. “Have Rachel take over for you until you are done. Stock all the bars tonight. We’ve got three parties and Rose is coming by with her brood. It’s going to get wild.”

Rose. Now that was a girl that knew how to party. One of the other misfits that resided on Fantasy Ave, Rose was Sin’s right hand. She ran Spirits Emporium; it exclusively stocked the alcoholic beverages of every company on Fantasy Avenue—from Ari’s Glide and Slide to Blanche’s Poison Apple. Home to the women their worthless Fairy Godmother had screwed in the happily never afters, they’d bonded together and created a world of pleasure, entertainment, and, well, sometimes more pointed desires.

“Speak of the devil,” Sin said, spinning on her six inch thigh-high black leather boots when she saw Rose enter Sin’s Pleasure, the premier all male review club on the East coast. Sin tossed her light pink hair over her shoulder, smiling and waiting as Rose came closer. Sin had gone for gothic caramel seductress tonight with a PVC corset around her waist with a pastel pink bra to top it off. She had black elbow fingerless gloves with pretty pink bows up the sleeve. She rocked smoky eyes with a tar black lipstick. Most of her clients came from her advertising, but, every once in a while, one of Rose’s guys wanted to play. Rose wore an all red leather suit, her trademark color, that looked more like she could be someone’s fantasy for the night. Her red curls were wild around her heart-shaped face.

“Good to see you made it,” Sin said to Rose with a smile.

“You know I would. Not all pleasure tonight though,” Rose added.

“Oh? What’s up?” Sin asked, eyes scanning the crowd for any problem.

“Your office?” Rose returned, already turning around and heading to the back of the club. Rose nodded to some of her guys, six of the big boys at that, as she passed the bar they waited at for drinks. They enjoyed the show, and Rose like bringing them in for a private party every once in a while. Their dancers were always paid handsomely, and Sin had a feeling it was in more ways than one. Sin would have to ask to watch one time.

Sin hurried to lead Rose into her area, unlocking her back door and then heading upstairs. The noise from the club dampened as they went higher, the noise cancellation Sin had installed had been as much for peace of mind as for her clients when they went to her dungeon. The private quarters housed Sin’s loft apartment, her office, and her dungeon, much farther back. Tobias, her guard, waved at her as she passed him to go into her office. That was his post, and it helped when she had clients. A former medic in the Marines, Tobias could handle himself, and anyone else for that measure, and was cool under pressure. Sin relied on him when she did her job, to make sure everyone stayed safe.

And if she could open her heart, he’d keep her safe too. She could see it in his vivid green eyes. But she couldn’t. They’d never stepped on that boundary, not once, but it sizzled between them whenever she looked at him. She could feel her body getting hot, even now as he tossed a mischievous smile her way. God the man was sex on a stick with his buzz cut brown hair and brawny shape. He was as big as a linebacker but quick enough to blitz attack. She craved his touch more than she could admit. It didn’t help that he was covered in tattoos and rode a mean Harley. Rough and dirty sex was all she saw when she looked at him. Just what she needed. She just didn’t need the attachment that came with it. But she didn’t trust anyone to have her back like him, so he stayed. She didn’t think she could make him go if she wanted to. She hurried to her office, not wanting his eyes on her any longer.

Jennifer Simpkins has always been an avid reader, but it wasn’t until she became a stay-at-home mom did she start to read romance. Her passion of reading romance turned into another passion she had as a child—writing. One late night of writing about sexy heroes and strong-willed heroines turned into two nights, until seven months later she had written her first novel.

She lives in a small, North Carolina town with her supportive husband (whose dream is to be on the cover of one of her books), a beautiful daughter, and two dogs who can’t seem to get along. If she’s not writing you can find her reading, hanging out with her family, or cheering on the New York Yankees.

FullCircle-evernight-publishing-jayAheer2015-3Drender

Teaser Excerpt:

Ellie buried her head in her hands and silently screamed, frustrated by the situation Mia had put her in. When she looked back up she saw him. His dark hair was a tad too long for convention, but it suited him. For half a second she let herself imagine what it would feel like to run her fingers through the thick mane. The simple touch used to bring her so much pleasure, but then that thought forced her to remember their last time together and that was enough to bring her back to present time. She couldn’t ignore his same strong, handsome features. Heath gave off an air of command even at this distance, and he wasn’t soft at all from his desk job. So probably not staid either. Of course, he looked more mature, but still like Heath.

A white buttoned up shirt tucked into a pair of dark slacks was anchored with a thin belt. The first two buttons on his shirt were left unattended to, giving him a more casual, cool look. His slick, black dress shoes were the only part of his attire that stood out to her though. And if Heath being beyond sexy wasn’t enough to knock her off balance, him not being alone was. As she had somehow already suspected, a blonde bombshell in a sleek, blue dress hung on Heath’s side, as if claiming him and warding off all other women. High heels showcased her long, tan legs. Ellie became insecure in her simple, flowered sundress paired with white sandals. If this was what he was into… No, Ellie, don’t you dare do that to yourself.

Mia saw them about the same time. Leaping to her feet, she about tumbled over her chair, trying to reach Heath. In that moment, seeing how happy her friend was, Ellie figured all the discomfort that was bound to happen tonight would be worth it.

Mia pulled her brother into a tight hug. “Heath, you’re here!”

A smile spread across his perfectly shaped lips as he took his sister into his arms. He looked genuinely happy. “It’s good to see you, little sis.”

Mr. Roy beamed. “It’s wonderful seeing my kids together again. I’ve missed this.”

Renee acknowledged Ellie first. “I didn’t know you would be here.”

“Yeah, Mia’s full of surprises. It seems she didn’t tell anyone I was coming tonight,” she said, looking in Heath’s general direction.

Mr. Roy left his children’s side, and Ellie stood, accepting his bear hug. “It’s good to see you, Ellie.”

“You too, Mr. Roy.”

The only other person left to greet—well, two people—was Heath and his date.

Heath was first to break the awkward silence. Extending a hand, he leaned into her. At that very moment she made the mistake of inhaling, taking in his fresh smelling cologne. “Ellie.” His voice came out low. And that did funny things to her stomach. The flip flops only got worse as he swept his eyes down her body, from her face to her painted toes and back up to her flaming red cheeks. Damn him.

“Hi” she said, clearing her throat, clearly not as unfazed by their meeting as he appeared.

His stare set her body on fire. He made no attempt to move and she became aware she’d failed to shake his hand. She’d taken it into hers, and lord help her. His hand was rough and strong, making her want to shiver. She also couldn’t ignore his eyes as they bore into her, dangerously dark, sending a jolt of excitement to her core. This couldn’t be happening. After all these years, he still had the same effect on her. And then it seemed the connection broke his calm and collected exterior because he didn’t let go immediately. Instead, he raised one beautifully arched eyebrow at her.

His touch, his smell sent her back to a time when things were just as complicated. Except then she welcomed the complication he brought into her life. His lips, warm and moving over hers. His tongue swirling with hers, sending little jolts of electricity to her sex. His body rubbing against her. The feel of his—

“Heath, darling, who is this?” Blondie was now back on his side, running her manicured fingers up and down his forearm.

A cold dose of reality put out the fire that had sparked between her thighs. It was going to be a really long night.

Heath cleared his throat and collected himself. She wondered if he’d allowed himself to go back to that place too. “This is Mia’s best friend, Ellie Scott. Ellie, this is Melissa Adams.”

Voice just above a whisper—audible to only Heath and Ellie—Melissa said, “I’m Heath’s lover.”

Ellie stared back in horror. Was she supposed to have a response to that? No wonder they’d never worked out, if this was the type of woman he’d been waiting for.

Excerpt:

Sadie sat in Bracken’s office with the packet that was for her eyes only in her lap and waited, not so patiently. She looked once more at the timepiece and saw that it was now forty-five minutes since she spoke to him last. She needed him to hurry. The power supply for the facial film wasn’t one that was everlasting and it was also bloody damn well hot as well. She shifted once more. Five more minutes, that was all she was giving him until she left and let him come to find her.

The door from the command deck slid open to reveal utter chaos, then slid shut to silence the noise. “Apologies for the delay,” he said. He moved to the desk and practically fell into the chair behind it. Rubbing his hands over his face, he leaned forward to prop his arms on the desktop. “What’s going on, Sadie?”

“You and your friend, Fintan, have been playing loose with the rules. Since he wed the Imarian woman, the marshal’s office have placed spies on his ship.” She passed the package over to him. “They want to bring you all down. They’re trying to find who all is with you. I never once thought to ensure that his destroyer was protected as well. Sure I’ve hidden the telemetry on his ship when I could, but I didn’t think about scouring it clean the way that I did yours.”

Bracken waved off her concern as he looked over the pieces of the package she’d been left. Reaching out, he pressed a button. “Draven, get Fintan for me, please,” he said, then released the button. “They really are starting to get desperate,” he muttered, shaking his head slowly.

She shrugged and leaned back once more. If he wasn’t concerned, why should she be? It was likely time she stopped protecting him as much as she did. “If you have nothing else to say, I should go back to my quarters. It’s been a very long and trying day.” Especially since she had been shoved onto the one ship in the universe she didn’t want to be. Not because she hated Bracken, but because she cared far too much for him.

“Don’t move,” he said sharply. A beep sounded, and the screen to her left lit up.

“Bracken, what’s going…oh, hello.”

“Fintan, meet Doctor Sadie Monterey, friend of the family. Mainly the sisters but we’re forgiving her for her horrid taste in friends. Sadie, meet General Fintan Daykin. The marshal’s office is stepping things up, Fintan. They’re into planting evidence now, and moles.”

“I know. I caught two just this morning who are now crammed into an escape pod with three others that will be jettisoned sometime in the next hour. I’m sweeping through the crew, looking for the others they thought they could slip past me.”

“Good. I already have Draven looking into our crew as well. They actually think we don’t know each and every member by name and face.”

“Well the offices are being run by an egotistical ass who wants to make a mark by wiping out the Imarians once and for all.”

Bracken shot her a look and snorted. “They’re not above getting rid of those that could discover their plans, either. Where are you at?”

Fintan leaned to the side with a frown. “About a day out from your position. Why?”

“Because we’ve been sabotaged and I’m pretty damn sure they have a plan to ignite this war, and we’re the fucking suckers about to be splattered across the galaxy.”

“I’ll get Markus to encourage the engine room to run in the red for a while. Keep me apprised of the situation. And Bracken.”

“Yeah?”

“Don’t get dead.”

“Copy that, General. See you soon.” The screen went black as Bracken turned his chair to face her once more.

“So you’ve known what’s been happening for a while now I take it?” she asked as she leaned back, tapping her finger to the arm of the chair in her telltale nervous fashion. “What I don’t get, though, is why assure that I’m on board? I’m the one who designed the AI’s and without me they will all go dormant. There is a kill switch that’s encoded with my DNA, so making me dead is a good way to kill all of the Craegin destroyers, so why?”

He lifted a brow and stared at her. “Come on, Sadie. Think about it. They have a whole new line of destroyers that are ready to be put into place if not for the fact we’re not at war and don’t need that many out here. All with a different AI system to run them. Kill all of us off with a fake Imarian fleet, and they can roll out their new ships with commanders in place who do as they are told, and don’t bother to think for themselves.”

She shook her head and leaned forward. “You really don’t know me as well as you think that you do.” Sure, everyone was certain that the new, top-of-the-line destroyers were all clearly based upon a new design, but she was a chameleon. She could change her looks at whim and did so often so that she could ensure Bracken was safe. She hid the true self that she was, the scarred woman that men only wanted for a title and money. No, Sadie was no one’s fool. Not now, not ever. “Why do you think you know me as well as you do? Yes, I’ve been friends with your sisters for as long as I can recall but you don’t really know me. No one does.” No one had ever truly tried to know her. Not after she had been disfigured. Sure she had been sought after, but they didn’t want her just the prestige of being her husband.

“You may have put in the initial systems, but they were all changed out on the sly a year ago,” he said quietly. Digging into his desk, he tossed a file onto the top near her. “We’ve been suspicious for a couple of years now, but the instant they did that we all started to cover our asses. We have enough dirt on several politicians to bury them for centuries. But we don’t yet have the one key piece. The why of it all. You’re as expendable as the rest of us, Sadie. Why do you think you were forced onto this ship with us? Especially if we’re such threats to the current government. You could have kept watch from Craegin remotely. You have access to everything here. Why put you on this ship now?”

“Don’t know.” Oh she knew all right but she wasn’t saying. “Well since you have absolutely everything figured out you really don’t need me now, do you? You can assign one of the tramps to take me back or drop me at one of the moon bases.” It pissed her off that someone was putting her shit out there. It bothered her even more that Bracken felt he knew more about her and what was happening in her life than she did. A lot.

“And leave you unprotected? Hardly,” he said, adding on a snort for good measure, she was sure. Bloody irritating was what it actually was. He looked ready to say something else to her when another beep sounded. Snarling a heap of swear words under his breath, he hit the button. “Yeah? What? When?” he asked. Then he let loose with another string of curses, some used in a rather creative manner. “Get us there as quick as you can. Alert Fintan that we’re diverting. Son of a bitch,” he complained as he got to his feet. When he reached her side he tugged on the shoulder of her shirt lightly. “Come on, doc. You’re going to want to see the evidence for yourself.”

“If you say so.” Said said as she rose to her feet and adjusted her suit. It was clear by the rigidness of her stance that the woman hated being led around on a string, but what was worse was she would do anything for this man. She was Craegin through and through; she was passionate, but she was also submissive if the right man ever came along. He never had, however, not since the right man sat before her and never once looked at her as if he wanted anything to do with her at all.

He put a hand on the small of her back as they stepped onto the command deck. The volume was intense on the deck, though it lowered for a moment as Bracken entered. Several nods came their way before everyone returned to their work.

She moved so that she had her back to the wall and simply surveyed the controlled chaos that was happening on the command deck.

Bracken went over to his first officer. She watched as he listened to the man. It was his expression she noticed the most, what she could see of it, that was. He started frowning, but slowly it melted off until she could practically feel the rage wanting to let loose. Bracken took the data pad the man passed him and came slowly toward her as he viewed what was on it.

“So, what’s happening?” she asked, shifting to better see the data pad and so that no one could possibly get behind her. She had been there before and now there were very few people she allowed at her back. “What has you looking so angry?”

“You watch and tell me what you see.” He passed over the data pad and moved so his back was to the wall at her side. Leaning his head back, he closed his eyes. In a brief flash she saw how tired he was before he masked it all under a neutral look.

Sadie took the data pad and watched the horror unfold and gasped. “Holy mother,” she whispered, then touched the pad, increasing the size of the screen and replaying what was in it. “Wait.” She squeezed in closer and shook her head. “They have the Imarian insignias wrong. Look.” She turned to him. “They’re trying to make this look like Imarian, but they screwed up the insignia.” She had studied the insignias at great detail, mostly so that she could write a script into the coding of the AI’s that would recognize anything to do with an Imarian ship.

“I know. It’s begun,” he muttered. Someone called to him, and he gave a nod. Pressing his hand to his ear, he let out a sigh. “I’m guessing you’ve seen the footage so far? Yeah, we saw that here too. Better let our friend know the next step is likely already underway for the retribution. Right, let me know when you hear something. Sorry,” he said, looking to her again. “We’ll be pairing up from here out. Fintan’s going to be riding not far from us for the next while, and all those who are against our government’s tactics have been warned to do the same. It’ll stretch us a little, but the hope is that we can keep one another safe with the tactic since command won’t be expecting two ships when they start to try picking us off.”

“You need to ensure that the hidden codes inside of your communications panels are disabled. Each ship is built with a minimum of fifteen hidden codes to report back to command. I need for you to take me to engineering first, communications and then the armory. I’ll do what I can to help you. When the general’s ship is in range I’ll go to his ship and do the same.”

He stared at her long enough to make her mildly uncomfortable. “Thank you, Sadie,” he said in a low, intimate tone. Reaching out, he took the data pad from her fingers to pass off to a junior officer. “Let’s get going. We need to do this quickly because I have a feeling we’re going to need every damn advantage we can get.”

“Yes, you are.” She sighed and rubbed the back of her neck. Going through her mind was everything she needed to do. “And if they are using the new class of ships there is a kill switch that I hid inside of them. They don’t know about it. Not even the people on my team know about the kill codes. It’s something that I put into place with everything that I’ve designed for the last fifteen years.” She had been a child prodigy, able to create programs for ships for as long as she could recall. It had been the one and only way to escape the machinations of her mother to try to get her sold off, married off, whatever.

“Let’s keep that as a last resort. I’m not putting you in any more danger than you already are, Sadie. I wasn’t kidding when I said I wanted to keep you here and safe. Putting you on a moon base is just begging for an assassin to take you out when you’re not looking. Not even you can watch your back every moment of every day, no matter how much you would wish otherwise.”

“I’ve learned a lot over the years. I’ve learned how to protect myself and hide in plain sight.” She’d been doing it for the last six years, since she had been attacked and permanently disfigured. “Your sisters have the gift of being able to go about in the world without a care. I’m not. I never have been.” She was one of the original families’ descendants, one of the few Craegin that still had diluted Imarian blood in her veins, her family having intermarried far more often than not over the generations. Not something she was proud of and likely why her father had been as crazy as he was. “I don’t need a moon base for the kill switch. I just need to be within range and an amplifier dish.”

“If I had a bloody opinion on those females I’d lock them up in a dungeon and keep them from wreaking havoc on the world. Unfortunately only my father sides with me. Mother doesn’t see it as an issue.” He put his hand on her back as they walked through the corridors at a quick pace. In the lift he keyed in their destination before turning to look at her. “Once you’ve done this we need to have a talk. Frank, open, no more hiding, Sadie. You up for it?”

“Depends on what exactly it is that you wish to discuss. If it’s to lecture me, again, then I believe I’ll pass on that conversation if you don’t mind.” There was only so much that she could take before her heart would break. “Your sisters are only on your case as much as they are because your mother and father have forbade them from marrying until you have married. Just saying.”

“Which is utter crap,” he said. “I don’t lecture, Sadie. I pass out useful pieces of information that I believe someone could use. But to put your mind at ease, this isn’t a lecture of any sort. Truths, and nothing but truths. That’s it. I’ll tell you some truths I know, and you try and come up with excuses and blow me off yet again.” He gave her a tight smile and spun as the doors opened. Stepping to the side, he waved her out into the corridor.

He really didn’t know her at all. That much was far more apparent with each moment she spent with him. Perhaps her heart and soul were wrong; they had to be. People who belonged together didn’t act as they did to each other.

Once more his hand landed on her back to guide her through the ship to do what needed to be done to keep him and his crew safe. When they reached engineering he stayed close but didn’t crowd her. Bracken did ensure that none of the crew came wandering over to see what she was up to, mainly by planting his rather large frame between her and everyone else.

Settling into the seat before the console, Sadie pulled open the backdoor she had built into the systems and began to go through the programming. Finding the key code she needed, she just smiled. “There you are,” she said and removed the line of coding that would communicate back to the home world. “There.” She turned and looked up at Bracken. “Armory next, please. Then communications, medical and the science labs. That should take everything out so that they can no longer eavesdrop upon you or your ship.”

And so it went with each area that she had told him about. Together they traveled the ship from end to end, her removing codes as she did so. Once that was finished they were outside of hydroponics. “Now what?”

“Now we talk.” His hand landed on her arm, this time in a firm grip. Hard enough to hold her but not to bruise. Apparently he wasn’t taking any chances in her going anywhere but where he wanted.

It was the stupidest thing ever, and she chastised herself immensely when his hand landed upon her arm. The moment that he squeezed she felt her panties get wet. The touch was firm but not painful. It was the touch she had craved from him all of her life, oddly enough. She allowed him to lead her. She allowed him to take her through the ship as he wished.

EXCERPT

Excerpt © Kacey Hammell, 2015

Eric’s breath rushed from his lungs as Candy propelled off the sofa and straddled him in one svelte move.

He couldn’t resist the need coursing through him. Seeing her in his home today, a light blue sundress flowing seductively over her body whenever she’d moved, he was helpless to fight it.

Sliding his palms over her back, he groaned when her moist center came in contact with his hard-on. He ached. His buddy wanted escape from his pants. Needed to find the sweet heat that would make him happiest.

Her mouth latched on to his as she quickly undid his pants and lowered the zipper, freeing him. She nibbled his bottom lip with her teeth, then sucked it between her lips before her tongue plundered.

He’d never known anyone like her. Cool and collected one moment, and hotter than a crisp day in August the next. Their tongues played, tasting one another. He drifted his hands over her back, drawing her in closer, his dick rigid against her center heat.

Coming up for air, she shoved her fingers through his hair and grinned at him. Her eyes shone bright with desire and exhilaration. Her cheeks red, her breathing deep, she already had that sexy messed up look like she’d been ridden hard and completely satisfied.

And he’d make sure she left here today feeling both.

Clasping her hips, he shoved her down harder on his lap, her already wet cunt gliding along his shaft.  Her heat nearly scalding him, he laid his head back against the couch, watching her as she closed her eyes and gave herself over to pleasure.

Their heavy breathing filled the living room as he rolled her hips back and forth. Christ, she was spectacular. Her long hair swiped over her shoulder, mouth agape, cheeks flushed… She was primed and ready. All he’d need to do was shift her panties to the side and sink deep inside. He groaned.

Her eyelids lifted, the desire in her gaze nearly stealing his breath.

“You feel so good against me, babe,” he mumbled, prompting her hips to move faster.

She held on to his shoulders, her fingers digging in. “Eric,” she moaned, breathless.

His heart rate picked up, and he absorbed the joy of his name on her lips. He wanted to hear more of that. Every day. As much as possible.

What the hell are you thinking? There was no turning back. Not right now. Not when she was sliding against him, her pussy hot, and driving him to near insanity. How he was to keep a coherent thought in his head, he had no idea.

But one zipped through his mind, nearly stopping his heart.

#WCW AGENT CARTER SEASON 1 DECLASSIFIED AUTHOR SARAH RODRIGUEZ! @SarahTheRebel @LeTeishaNewton

Agent Carter

Most of you know me and my infatuation with all things Geek. Second, you know that I am a consummate geek and I have always, and will always be, fine with that moniker. Matter of fact, I love being a kick ass oddball who can tell you about coding on your computer, flip around and write you a contemporary romance, jump and check your engine, toss some random Cos-play pics in there, and then sit my ass down and write some more shifter erotica…all in a day. So when I am aware of an equally amazing woman, she quickly becomes a top dog in my small circle of can’t-live-without friends. That is Sarah Rodriguez. (Sarah The Rebel to most) She’s pretty awesome, and is now one of the authors for Marvel with her Agent Carter: Season 1 Declassified peace, which is a Media Tie-In for the show.

Yeah, she kicks ass!

She was awesome enough to agree to let me annoy the living hell out of her for an interview, and I’m excited to share her thoughts and words with you.

Everyone, meet Sarah Rodriguez, the next 1-click author on your Must Buy lists!

Sarah, thanks so much for coming to talk to me today and go over your new project with me! I love you long time, I promise, for this. So for you, what is Agent Carter: Season One Declassified (in your view)

Agent Carter: Season One Declassified is the companion novel to season one of Marvel’s Agent Carter. It’s an essential guide for super-fans of the show.

What attracted you to this project?Agent Carter Declass

Getting to work with Marvel is one thing… getting to work with Marvel on a project all about one of your favorite female characters and one of the most badass love interests in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Who could turn that down?

How did this project go about getting published?

I had just walked out of an early screening of Mockingjay Part 1 when I noticed I had two missed calls. While I waited for my friend to get out of the restroom, I listened to the voicemail. Then I listened again to be sure they had the right number. Marvel had gotten my name from somewhere and reached out to me to write the book. It turns out my good friend Jennie Kong had passed my name along to her contact as someone for what she thought was a copy editing position.

How do you feel about being a Marvel author, let alone a female one?

I don’t know if I really get to say I’m a Marvel author, let’s say that if they call me back to write the book for Season 2! It doesn’t really feel real. But I’m pretty darn proud.

People are really hoping for a second season of Agent Carter, is there going to be one, or would you have to kill me if you answered?

There is definitely a Season 2 coming up! They announced it just before Comic-Con. The team is moving to LA (which will make filming easier on the crew, who had to transform modern LA into 1940s New York).

Agent Carter SquareWhat attracted you to Peggy Carter?

Peggy Carter is one of the only female love interests in a Marvel movie who serves as a mentor and inspiration to a super hero. Without her, Captain America would not have gone to save Bucky. When he is in times of crisis (even in Winter Soldier) he looks to Peggy for advice. On top of all of that, she’s actually a strong, intelligent warrior, not a secretary or nurse or journalist: a soldier. She’s one of a kind.

Do you see some of yourself in Peggy Carter (or maybe the other way around since she’s older)?

I wish I was as badass as Peggy! Actually, now that you ask I guess I do relate to her quite a bit. I’m also intelligent and a natural leader, but men tend to ignore me and think they know better. I often refer to myself as “Cassandra” after the Greek myth because of it. It’s probably no coincidence that Cassandra was a woman.

Did you get to be there for any part of the filming process or did you get the call while the first season was already wrapping up? Any interviews or interaction with cast or staff?

I was on set for quite a few shots! I got to be on location at Stark’s airplane hanger, the movie theater and many of the shots in the S.S.R. office. Being on set was really fun! Everyone was so nice and kind and quick to pull me aside and point out interesting things about the filming process.

Captain America: The First Avenger

Hayley Atwell – Agent Carter

One of my favorite moments was sitting with Sheena Duggal, head of VFX. She sat me down and we went through almost all of the episodes and she showed me before and after VFX were added. It was mindblowing how seemless everything looked

I interviewed more than twenty cast and crewmembers for this book. For the cast, I interviewed Hayley Atwell, Enver Gjokaj, James D’Arcy, Chad Michael Murray, Shea Whigham, Lyndsy Fonseca, Bridget Regan and Ralph Brown. I also interviewed each writer about their episode, and interviewed the show runners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas.

Enver Gjokaj - Daniel Sousa

Enver Gjokaj – Daniel Sousa

Interviewing Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus was especially exciting, because they told me so many cool things that I couldn’t even put in the book! But they are true comic fans and the Marvel characters are in good hands with them.

The first time I met Hayley on set, her eyes lit up and she had tons of questions about the book. And the first time I met James D’Arcy on set was when Hayley said “James have you met Sarah?” and I tried not to die with joy that Hayley had introduced me to someone like I mattered. I have the biggest girl crush on her.

James D'Arcy

James D’Arcy – Edward Jarvis

We also talked video games during my interview with her. Hopefully she tried out some of my recommendations. Turns out she’s a Sims fan!

Are you going to be working on other projects for Marvel? Along the lines of Agent Carter: Season One Declassified?

I’m not sure but I hope so!

What are your other writing credits? (If none, then you can answer what are you working on right now?”

I’ve recently worked on a few epic fantasy themed mobile games coming to North America soon. I’m also working on my first fantasy novel.

Sarah Cover

For the Geek girl, how have you made this your career?

It’s all about picking a dream and then charting your path. I knew I wanted to work in gaming. So I moved to LA where the gaming community was and networked my butt off until I got the jobs I wanted. I’ve already achieved a few geek girl dreams (doing PR for huge AAA video games, working for Felicia Day etc.) and now I’m moving on to writing. Believe in yourself and be willing to take risks.

I also recommend creating something of your own until you get the job you want. For example, starting my own video game website (NerdyButFlirty.com, which is still going strong under the new editor-in-chief) showed potential employees I was serious and knowledgeable about gaming. It gave me an “in” at numerous events and tradeshows. Find something you can do on your own to show your dedication to the field of your dreams.

For those that don’t know, what sort of articles and things did you have on NerdyButFlirty?

Nerdy But Flirty is a feminist geek website that focused on diversity and female voices. My goal when I created the site was to have a safe space for female games journalists to learn and grow and write about games, and also to have a “by us for us” mentality when it came to reviewing games. A woman reviewing a game for other women can point out things that are mostly only relevant to women. And the same for black gamers and latina gamers. NBF ended up expanding into a wide range of geeky topics, from comics to board games and is now run by Kelsey R.M.

This one is about you: What is your dream project?

My dream project is already going on! Writing my fantasy novel has been my dream since I was ten! But to pick a second one, I would say writing for a big name video game company, such as BioWare or Bethesda.

(I’m totally hoping to get in with SquarEnix but this isn’t about me!) Tell me about this fantasy novel? Is this a major work in progress you plan on making into a series or trilogy? Deets girl, deets (you know gossip mongers need that :D)

I don’t want to share too many details about the novel yet, but it will hopefully be part of a series. I’ve been sitting on the idea (and mentally building it) for over a decade now, and finally felt inspired to start writing it down thanks to a wonderful English professor in college (Bri Spicer). The story centers around a warrior princess. Most of the characters (including the main character) are black women so it’s a little different from a lot of the high fantasy out there.

Woman Up You do a podcast as well right? What’s that like? What do you cover?

Last year my best friend Catrina and I started a podcast. It’s basically just us talking about geeky things. But as we’re both feminists, cat ladies and lovers of inclusiveness and diversity, it ends up being a podcast about those things as well. It was originally named The Rebel Base Podcast but too many people thought we were a Star Wars podcast! So we changed the name to Woman Up! Podcast. Every other Wednesday at 8pm PT we talk geeky news then focus on a main topic on my twitch channel. Later we upload the video to YouTube and the audio to AllGames.com for people who like to listen on the go.
