Stunted

This post, as titled, could be about this blog. Or “stalled” perhaps more aptly. Not sure why, but I just haven’t felt compelled to write much here lately. That is, I think of little tiny things I could write here…glorified Facebook statuses (stati?) really. But nothing meaty enough for a whole post. I’ve also stayed away because... Read the Rest »

Follow The Yellow Brick Free Stuff!

I’m writing this post while we’re watching The Wizard of Oz, so forgive me if I sit and think some more accidentally insert words if I only had a brain from the movie into what I’m writing.  It’s a perfect movie day, really — a rainy Saturday, Clio on steroids and not feeling well, Elsa recovering from... Escaping, Clinging, Rising

I‘m enjoying my last couple of hours at Wellspring House, a sort of B&B for writers out in Western Massachusetts, in a beautiful little town. I came here for a week way back in 2011 to work on Double Time and it was a fantastically productive time. You get a room with a desk and a... Read the Rest »

(Un)even Steven

Oh, my poor derelict blog. These last few weeks were a whirlwind — nay, maelstrom — of packing and prepping and de-cluttering as we got our house ready to sell. “Got,” past tense, because we’ve got buyers! Didn’t even make it to the open house. So I’m sitting here now in our gorgeously sparse, staged... Read the Rest »

A Fresh Start

Well there’s a big reason I haven’t posted for the last nearly-two-weeks. I’ve been a wee bit busy and preoccupied because…We’re moving! The contract isn’t signed yet, but the lawyers are reviewing it, and already our current house is a box-filled, partly denuded version of itself as we de-clutter, de-junk and prepare to de-part, hopefully... Super Sib

As I’ve written here many times before, it’s hard to be a sib.  Throughout this crappy little boat trip, Clio has gotten so much more attention than Elsa, of so many different sorts. She’s been the recipient of countless gifts and treats, only some of which have come in duplicate. She’s spent endless hours more... Read the Rest »

Pretty Girl

I dropped the girls off at their February vacation day camp yesterday, and at first Clio didn’t want to take her (winter) hat off. It took me by surprise. She hardly ever wears a hat indoors anymore, and has enough hair now that it *almost* looks like she just has short hair on purpose. But... Read the Rest »

The End is Nigh

In less than five months, Clio’s treatment will be done. No more chemo, no more steroids, no more need to call the clinic or get pumped full of antibiotics or spend time in the hospital if she gets a fever. They’ll remove the port that’s been in her chest since three days after her diagnosis.... Read the Rest »

We won!

OK, OK, Alastair didn’t win the Grammy. But we still had a great time in LA (by ourselves! No kids!). And he still gets to say for the rest of his life that he’s Grammy-nominated. And all the Gramminess aside, he made a kickass album (in my unbiased opinion) that’s touching thousands of lives. Like... Read the Rest »

Grammys, here we come.

Temps are in the low teens here in Boston right now. I’m not a wimp about winter, but I’m not a fan of when it gets frigid like this. Today, though, I couldn’t care less. It just makes it all that much sweeter that tomorrow morning we head for sunny, 80-degree Los Angeles. Woohooo! I’ve... Read the Rest »
