My Top Ten Books of 2012

I love to read. It is food for my soul. This year my books are dominated with therapeutic and psychological themes. Imagine that.
Here is a list of my top ten books of 2012. These are books I read this year, not necessarily books that were published in 2012.
1. The Master and His Emissary—This book is very academic, and at times dense. But, it is one of the most important books I’ve ever read. The “Master” in this book is the right-brain and the “Emissary” is the left-brain.Iain McGilchrist p...

Top Five Greatest Regrets

Bronnie Ware is an Australian nurse who spent several years working in hospice care, caring for patients in the last 12 weeks of their lives. She recorded their dying epiphanies in a blog calledInspiration and Chai, which gathered so much attention that she put her observations into a book calledThe Top Five Regrets of the Dying.
Ware writes of the phenomenal clarity of vision that people gain at the end of their lives, and how we might learn from their wisdom. “When questioned about any reg...

Powerful Words from The New Bond Movie “Skyfall”

Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are…
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
—”M” quoting Tennyson from Ulysses

The Faces That Have Charmed Us The Most Escape Us The Soonest

“American Woman” Graphite & Watercolor by Randy Elrod
These words by Sir Walter Scott, one of my dearest and most loved authors, raise a fascinating discussion…and my own scattered thoughts that follow.
Why do we have such deficits in our emotional receptivity?
Why do we not truly get to know those charming faces?
Why do we tend to read people’s mouths and bodies and not their eyes?
Why do we prefer masturbation over sexual intimacy?
Why is love blind?
In his thought provoking book, The Master and...

Celebrate with me, friends!
