Ten Words That Have Changed My Life Forever

DespairWhen we encounter these words, we are always faced with a task. That task demands something more of us than we are willing to give. Without embracing these words in our life vocabulary and experience, we will never grow into maturity.

We all have a fantasy of arriving at a conflict-free plateau or a sunlit glen without struggle, without the demand for increasingconsciousness, without being pulled deeper and further than we wish to travel.

Interestingly, there is such a place—it is called Deat...

10 Ways To Live, Work and Love Better

Actor with masksOver the past two very difficult years, I am learning that a person with a healthy idea of self can manage not only the routine ups and downs of daily life but also serious crises as they develop. Social, personal, financial and professional crises, while always upsetting to one’s normal pattern of life, are not paralyzing or totally defeating. In fact, we should grow and mature through crises, coming out of them richer, more understanding, and compassionate human beings. In biblical terms,...

Quick Relief For Real Life

ReliefPlop, plop, fizz, fizz, oh what a relief it is.

We plop on the couch and our lives fizzle away like a proverbial Alka-Seltzer tablet. I did it last night, did you?

We are wrapped around by pop culture. News that runs twenty-four hours creates info junkies. Local newscasts find the goriest accidents, the mostsalaciousscandal, the most paranoia-stirring threats to public health to serve up for breakfast, for dinner, and to send us toward turbulent slumber at bedtime.

Transient nonentities are ca...

An Artists’ Thoughts on Wonder

freedom-webMy thoughts—the simplest, clearest, and therefore most wonderful thoughts—give me peace. For the first time in my life the possibility of life presents itself to me—not in relation to any worldly matter or with reference to its effect on others, but simply in relation to myself, to my own soul—vividly, plainly, wonderfully, and as a certainty.

And from the height of this perception all that had previously tormented and preoccupied me suddenly becameilluminatedby a warm white light without sh...
