I’m so happy to have met one of my favourite authors – Wendy Orr – in person at her launch for SWALLOW’S DANCE at Queen Books! (beaming) She is as kind and thoughtful and intelligent as she online. And she signed my copy of PEELING THE ONION, too! As well as SWALLOW’S DANCE.

And I couldn’t believe that she mentioned that I am a powerful YA writer in the Q&A! It was incredibly generous and kind of her.I’m glad she met Petal, too.

I won my copy through spreading the word about a great workshop An Introduction to the Practical Side and The Mysteries of Line Editing by Harold Underdown​, who is also a great children’s and YA editor, and Eileen Robinson​, a former Scholastic editor. Together they run Kid’s Book Revisions​.These two know what they’re doing!

I saw this awesome bumper sticker on a truck

in a parking lot today. It made me feel lighter, better, to randomly see a positive message out there.I think it’s true, and we need to keep fighting for rights and equality for all oppressed groups, including #LGBTQIA, PoC, disabilities of all kinds; an end to violence and rape, sexual assault and child abuse and torture – prevention, and full belief, support, and help for survivors when it does happen; better gun laws; and just…a kinder, more compassionate, living world, even when other people oppose us. Especially when they do. Petal has pancreatitis again – the vet says she gets flare ups because she had it once, and that it wasn’t anything I’m doing (I’m so careful with Petal’s food and safety, but I always worry I’ve done something wrong – that old abuse/trauma blame stuff). I
