Guest Blog from A.M. Hartnett – Here For A Good Time
I’m delighted to welcome another new voice to my blog today. The lovely A.M.Hartnett has come by to share a little from her latest Xcite publication!
In Here For A Good Time, Alexis looks at her company retreat not only as a way to get the creative juices flowing but as an opportunity to hook up. She’s thinking of something uncomplicated, like a hot waiter or another guest. Definitely not Chris Kendrick, who she doesn’t even really like and who she wouldn’t otherwise give the time of day to.
Frankly, I didn’t even plan on giving Kendrick the time of day. When I started writing this, Alexis was supposed to simply hook up with Kendrick and a few others before moving on to her boss for the HFN. Kendrick was a bit player, a cock attached to a bit of swagger that I was going to use for my nefarious purposes.
Then it happened: I started the scene where Alexis was supposed to dismiss his attempt at a second quickie and everything fell into place. It had to be Kendrick from start to finish. He was the HFN, and bossman and all the others could just fade into the background.
Blurb:
When Alexis booked her work retreat at The Deveaux, the most she had to look forward to was a bit of spa time on the company dime, but flashy salesman Chris Kendrick has an even better suggestion. For years they’ve had a hot and cold working relationship with a bit of flirting mixed in, and now is the perfect time to get that spark out of their systems.
Three days hopping in and out of beds (and other convenient places) shows Alexis that Kendrick’s smooth demeanour is more than just talk, and that aromatherapy and soft-tissue massages have nothing on Kendrick’s firm hand.
Excerpt:
Kendrick kept a straight face long enough to raise his glass to his lips, then sputtered with laughter. ‘So I ask if you think it’s fair that the boss gets to go home and fuck his wife, but expect me to keep my hands off when I know you’re sitting there all primed and ready?’
She sipped her water again, enjoying the delicious thrill that skittered along her pussy. ‘I think your chances have improved. What do you have in mind?’
‘I slipped the bartender a hundred bucks. No one is going to the stockroom behind us for half an hour.’
She glanced down the bar to her co-workers, all of whom had broken into their separate groups and were engrossed with each other, oblivious to anything out of sorts going on between two of their number.
‘If you say no, I might have to cause a scene,’ he said close to her ear. ‘I think bending you over this stool and showing everyone how wet you are ought to make my point.’
She couldn’t look at him and she couldn’t keep her grin from appearing. ‘I’ll give you a three-minute head start.’
The second Kendrick left her side, she glanced at her watch, and began the countdown. Exactly three minutes later, she slipped from the stool and followed in his wake.
With four doors to choose from, she stood at the head of the corridor and peered down it until one opened.
‘Here. Hurry.’
‘Hurry?’ she said as she slipped in. ‘We have half an hour.’
‘And I plan to get as much as I can into that little amount of time.’
Much to Alexis’s relief, the door locked from the inside. For a moment, there was the hard press of his body pushing her in the darkness, and then the light popped above their heads and she found herself gazing up at Kendrick.
‘Take the dress off,’ he murmured, his hand behind her, tugging the zipper between her shoulder blades. ‘I don’t think you’d find it funny if you split a seam and had to walk out of here in my shirt.’
She wriggled desperately out of the form-fitting dress, cursing her tits, her hips, her ass, and every spare curve between. ‘What about you?’
‘When I’m ready,’ he said, then whistled as the dress finally gave way and pooled at her feet.
Alexis started to turn back to him, but instead found herself with her tits squashed against the door as he held her by the scruff of her neck. She didn’t protest his rough treatment. She was thrilled at the idea of being fucked like this and couldn’t keep her hands off any longer. She reached between her legs.
‘I don’t think so,’ he said with a chuckle, and though he released his grip on her neck he captured her wrists and drew her hands up over her head. ‘I couldn’t get my way in the car, but I’ll damn well get my way right now.’

Happy Birthday Not Her Type!!!
Where did that year go? Only seems a moment since I was celebrating the first birthday of my popular kinky courier tale, Not Her Type: Erotic Adventures With A Delivery Man, when it was first published by the much missed OCPress.
Since my naughty delivery man novella was re-released by 1001 NightsPress last year, I’ve penned many new tales of erotic adventure, and one or two of the non-erotic type, but it is always this book that gets people talking whenever I’m out of dinner with friends, talking at a reading, or promoting erotica in general.
I think the reasons for its enduring appeal are very simple- it’s a romance – even though no one seems to have told John that! It’s also a slow burner- it starts of with hot but (dare I say it), fairly regular first time (unexpected), sex…but it does not stop there- far from it. The heat level doesn’t just rise, it cranks up big time as the non-couple, who only meet once a week, try every fantasy they’ve ever had…
When Jenny’s regular film courier, John, reveals how she has become the center of his sexual dream world, Jenny’s quiet existence is thrown into an arena of desire that she thought she’d long since abandoned.
One unexpected, head swimming romp later, and Jenny is left wondering if her courier will ever visit her again, and if he does, will he mention the hot sex they had on her living room floor that Tuesday afternoon, or will he pretend that it hadn’t happened?
When the following Tuesday arrives and John reappears on Jenny’s doorstep, the scene is set for a continuation of intensely kinky weekly meetings. There is only one problem. John really really isn’t Jenny’s type…
The main reason for its popularity- according to a few of the lovely readers I’ve asked- is that everything within the book- however kinky- is attainable. Anybody could do the things that are ‘done’ in this novella…if they were so inclined…
Everyone has a courier come to their home at some point, and everybody has fantasies…and if those two facts collide…
It is no co-incidence that this is the book I’ve blogged about most on this site- and been asked to blog about on other writer’s sites. There is something very real and appealing about John and Jen. I confess, of all my characters (and I am fond of them all- except for Candida in Digging Deep- she’s horrible- although, she’s meant to be horrible), John and Jen are my favourite.
Jen is purely ficticious- but John is made up of a combination of all the couriers I have ever met- and boy do those chaps have an imagination that John would be proud of!!
So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Not Her Type!!
If you’d like to see what all the fuss is about, you can buy Not Her Type as an eBook, or in paperback, from Amazon and all good online retailers…

Guest Post from Tamsin Flowers- The Christmas Tattoo
I have another first timer to my blog today- the wonderful Tamsin Flowers! Just check out this hot blog all about her Christmas Tattoo.
Over to you Tamsin…
Firstly, thanks so much, Kay, for having me on Everyone Needs A Bedtime Story – or perhaps at this time of year, it should be Everyone Needs a Christmas Story! Because, amazingly enough, Christmas will soon be upon us. And I sort of feel that it’s really sneaked up on me this year – the autumn’s been so mild and then for the past few weeks I’ve been chained to my desk doing NaNoWriMo, so I haven’t really noticed the changing season.
However, with the release of my new Christmas novella – The Christmas Tattoo – I’m now starting to channel the Christmas spirit. Back when I wrote this, the days were long and hot and it seemed hard to imagine snowflakes, carol services and Christmas trees. Now, however, it’s getting easier – the days are short and the last few mornings have been frosty. So if you need something to kick start that Christmas feeling, can I suggest that you settle down with a glass of mulled wine and some sweet but spicy erotic romance…
Here’s a little taster!
Tamsin xx
The Christmas Tattoo – blurb
When sexy red-head Bradie Clements comes home from Washington to nurse a broken heart and build bridges with her estranged father, she’s certainly not on the lookout for romance. After catching her boyfriend Kris in bed with her best friend and boss, all she wants to do is run and hide. But a chance encounter with local tattoo artist Colton Bassett leads to an unexpected appointment with his needle. Even though it’s cold outside, the temperature rises to boiling point as the two discover an irresistible attraction. But then Kris arrives on the scene to claim her back in time for his family Christmas and Bradie starts to remember what she saw in him. Tormented by jealousy and suspicion over Colton’s pregnant business partner, Bradie starts to wonder if her new romance is over before it’s begun…
Excerpt
Colt Bassett’s legs turned to water as he bent in low enough for his lips to brush against Bradie’s. He’d kissed those lips once before, briefly, and he’d never forgotten how they’d tasted. He’d dreamt of kissing them again a million times and now, when he thought the flame he’d been carrying for her for over a decade had at last gone out, she’d walked back into his life. Right into his studio, asking for a tattoo. Her eyes asking for a kiss.
His lips brushed hers, tentative at first. He’d made mistakes with her before, but he knew he was reading the signals right this time; a decade of experience had taught him what to look for. Her pupils were dilated, her lips parted and a little moist. Her breathing uneven. He put a hand along her jaw to hold her still as his mouth moved over hers and he sensed the subtle arching of her back and tilting of her head to give him better access.
Her kiss tasted immediately familiar, her lips as soft and yielding as he remembered. He swallowed and wondered whether he dared plunge his tongue into her mouth. The thought of it sent a spasm of lust up through his cock, had his heart pounding against his chest and his balls throbbing in his shorts. He knew he was reaching the point of no return; either draw back or take things forward. He tried to read Bradie’s expression but her eyes were shut. When her hand snaked up around the back of his neck, he recognized an invitation to continue, so he slowly traced the line of her lips with the tip of his tongue.
She rewarded him with a soft mewl from deep within her throat; she wanted this as much as he did. Her mouth opened and then her tongue pressed against his, pushing into his mouth and intensifying his need to take things further. She tasted of sweet coffee and he pushed back against her to find his way into her mouth; their tongues slipping past each other to explore at leisure. Her back arched more and he gripped the back of her neck to pull her in against him. Soft breasts touched his chest as her jacket fell open; he could feel her nipples pebbling hard through the thin fabric of her blouse. He raised his other hand and brought it up to the side of her breast…
A bell rang. A door slammed.
Fuck! Someone had come into the shop.
“Colt? Are you back there?”
Shit, it was Saskia!

Tamsin Flowers
Tamsin Flowers loves to write light-hearted erotica, often with a twist in the tail/tale and a sense of fun. In the words of one reviewer, ‘Ms Flowers has a way of describing sexual tension that forces itself upon your own body.’ Her stories have appeared in a wide variety of anthologies and she is now graduating to novellas, for publishers including Cleis Press, Xcite Books, Secret Cravings and Totally Bound. This year, she entered NaNoWriMo, with the intention of penning her magnum opus in the very near future. In the meantime, like most erotica writers, she finds herself working on at least ten stories at once: while she figures out whose leg belongs in which story, you can find out more about her at Tamsin’s Superotica or Tamsin Flowers.

Guest Post from Demelza Hart- Anonymous Sex. The Unattainable Ideal?
It’s a great pleasure to introduce the lovely Demelza Hart to my blog today- and with such a juicy subject!!
Over to you Demelza…
Many thanks to the gorgeous Kay for having me over here today.
What is it about anonymous sex that gets us going? The idea of crazy hot spontaneity with a stranger may not to be advocated in reality, but it’s one of the most powerful fantasies there is. I remember sneaking my mother’s copy of Fear of Flying by Erica Jong when I was an adolescent. She wrote about the ‘Zipless Fuck’: sex where clothes simply fall away; sex without ties, sex without names; sex with strangers; sex which is sudden and impulsive and, of course, outstanding. That scene where a woman suddenly fucks the man opposite her on the train (which in itself is simply a fantasy of the main protagonist – a fantasy within a fantasy) has remained for me one of the most influential erotic scenes. Sex with no repercussions.
But, unless we get really lucky, there always are repercussions, aren’t there? And that’s why these ideas work so well on the page. As women, with the responsibility of work and family and future pressing down on us, the idea of the zipless fuck is an ideal, an ideal we can yearn for but rarely, if ever, attain. And, like all ideals, it remains thus – ideal and therefore, in reality, unattainable. (At least for the majority of us. For those of you enjoying regular zipless fucks – hooray!)
But if we can’t live it, we can dream it, write it, and read it. Luckily for us, we have Tara, who does live it in my story Spontaneous (Book One of the Suited to You trilogy). We’ve met Tara before. Interestingly, in her first outing (‘Come Underground’ in Xcite’s Watching Me, Watching You and Your Ultimate Fantasy anthologies) she happens to be on a train, just like that lucky lass in Fear of Flying. For Tara it’s even better – five men in a carriage on the London Underground. And boy is it zipless! Five men, no names, just first impressions: Painter Man, Violin Pirate, T-Shirt Hottie, Hip Hop and The Suit.
When we meet her again in Spontaneous, she can’t shake The Suit from her mind, and neither, it seems, does he want to be shaken; he left his number on a scrap of the FT. That wasn’t the deal. She wasn’t supposed to see him again. She wasn’t supposed to want more. But she phones the number. Of course she does. And isn’t she glad of it? She may not know his name, but as she gets to know him, Tara gets drawn in deeper. And there’s the question: ultimately, is the zipless fuck ever enough? Come on, girls, you know we always want more.
Here’s a little titbit for you. Tara has just met up again with The Suit in a bar, but his immediate exertion of control unsettles her…
A throbbing warning started in my head. This wasn’t right. I was losing control. I only liked to relinquish control once I knew exactly where the sex was coming from. My skin prickled with unease and I reached for my bag, intending to go.
‘I’m sorry,’ I started.
‘What?’
‘I don’t think this is what I –’
‘Tell me ten things you like.’
His interruption startled me and I made the mistake of looking back into the crystal-blue eyes.
‘What?’
‘In a list. Tell me ten things you like.’
I exhaled a confused laugh. ‘You won’t even tell me your name.’
‘Names are trivial, desires are not. Tell me what you like.’
‘What, to do with sex?’
‘Not exclusively.’
‘Umm …’ I was still sitting there, I realised. He waited.
‘I like Parma ham,’ I offered.
‘Go on.’
‘I like the film Rebecca with Olivier and Fontaine. I like Lindor, especially the dark ones. I like going down on a man when he’s least expecting it. I like watching really big waves crashing in from the west in the middle of January.’ I smiled and dropped my head, embarrassed.
‘Five more.’
‘I like duck breast, pink. I like blue lights on a Christmas tree. I like the stretching pang when I’m fucked in the arse. I like cats over dogs … and I like … spontaneity.’
He stared at me with a faint smile. I hadn’t left yet.
‘When was the last time you came?’ he asked, as matter-of-factly as if he was filling in a form.
‘What?’
‘When did you last have an orgasm?’
‘This morning.’
‘With someone?’
‘No.’‘
Where were you?’
I tugged a lock of hair back around my ear. ‘In the shower.’
‘How did you make yourself come? Fingers? Dildo?’
‘No. I used the shower head.’
‘Do you do that often?’
‘Yes. It gives me a very hard come.’
‘Were you standing up?’
‘Yes. I come strongly standing up.’ I took another drink of wine. I should go. I really should.
‘Your breasts are perfect in that dress.’
‘Thank you.’
‘Are you wet?’
He spoke with such calm authority, as if he was conducting a board meeting, that my mind could not quite process his words. ‘Excuse me?’
‘Is your cunt wet?’ he articulated clearly.
‘I don’t know.’
‘Touch yourself.’
Whether I was too shocked not to or simply adoring this game, I found myself doing what he asked. I reached under my dress, slowly. There was nobody directly beside us who would see.
‘Are you wearing underwear?’ I nodded.
‘What kind?’
‘A thong.’
A finger slipped along my snatch. It came across considerable moisture. I gasped a little.
‘Wet?’ he queried. I nodded again. ‘Push two fingers deep inside you. As deep inside as you can.’
I arched my fingers as high up as I could.
‘Work them for me.’
I did, grinding and stroking along my pussy which grew wetter with each pass.
‘Show me your hand,’ he demanded suddenly.
I obeyed him and pulled it out. He reached across and took it. The Suit studied my glistening fingers reverently before pulling them to him and closing his mouth around them. He sucked, or rather he fucked my fingers with his mouth. Warm, wet bliss. His tongue rolled around them, his lips worked along them, and all the while he held me in the brilliant gaze of his eyes. I would not be leaving.

Come and say hello to Demelza on Facebook, Twitter or at her blog. She’d love to get to know you.
Spontaneous (Book One in the Suited to You trilogy) is available now, as is Watching Me, Watching You and Your Ultimate Fantasy (containing ‘Come Underground’).

Big Book of Orgasms- A Book And A Half!!
I’ve been lucky enough to have my work featured in 40 (ish) anthologies of erotica over the last 9 years -many published by Cleis Press- but this one has to be the best of the bunch so far…
The Big Book of Orgasms!!!
Blurb- What happens when you bring together 69 authors sharing their hottest orgasm stories? If you have top notch erotica editor Rachel Kramer Bussel, you get The Big Book of Orgasms! This climactic collection captures top erotica writers serving up steamy scenarios all focused on The Big O. Whether getting off from exhibitionism, voyeurism, or a very special pair of blue jeans, the characters in The Big Book of Orgasms explore all sorts of ways they can come. Go “Under the Table” with Elizabeth Coldwell and cheer for “The Pink Team” by Kelly Rand.
Discover the thrill of hot wax and even hotter sex; these short stories bring the heat on every page! With a foreword by Ecstasy is Necessary author Barbara Carrellas, these are climaxes you’ll want to relive again and again. Dr. Ruth once said about Rachel Kramer Bussel, “she is only satisfied if you come and come again.” With this rousing read, The Big Book of Orgasms counts all the wonderful ways women get off. Inspirational as well as aspirational, this book celebrates women’s sexuality by reaching new heights of excellence. Each of the 69 stories about “the big O” is a peak experience in and of itself.
As well as my own offering- Tied By Red (think roses and bondage…) you can read 68 other cracking stories from authors such as… Tenille Brown, Emerald, Donna George Storey, Victoria Blisse, Annabeth Leong and Jeremy Edwards.
Whatever you do- if you’re a lover of erotica- then DO NOT MISS OUT on this book!!

“Hot stories and people getting off six (or 69) ways from Sunday.” —Malfic “This book certainly lives up to its title. “These are great little stories by well-known authors and each one is worth picking up the book.” —Romancing the Book

Joining the Vicious Circle- Christmas Kink- An Adventure in Self Publishing
I never thought I’d do- I never thought I’d self publish. To be honest with you, I’m still not absolutely sure it was the right thing to do. I am blessed with fab publishers, who have been very good to me- a little voice at the back of my head is telling me I’m being disloyal.
I’ve always seen self publishing as something of a vicious circle.
Self publishing is free therefore (understandably) loads of authors do it- but this means publishers are getting less trade- so publishers lose money- so publishers can’t afford to do as much as they used to- so they take on fewer writers - they can’t afford to market so much- so sales drop- and so authors have on choice but to self publish…and round we go again! (Yes, I am generalising- but you get the idea)
My other problem with self publishing is the removal of the gate keepers- no editors and no form of quality control- the result being a flood of badly written work drowning out the good stuff.
So- having said all that, why have I bought out my anthology, Christmas Kink, as an Amazon KDP?
In short- I need more sales. Simple as that. It may not get me many of course, but the attraction of 70% profit per £1.88, rather than the usual 25% is not to be sniffed at!! Erotica is struggling more than ever before in the literary sales world- and so I decided - (with the wise words of Lily Harlem buzzing in my head “You’re a brand woman- Your work won’t get lost in the flood- go for it” )-that it was time I swallowed my principles and went for it!
I was still nervous however- I am rather useless when it comes to sorting tax and things- and so I approached the enterprise with trepidation.
If it wasn’t for my wonderful friend Lily Harlem- one of the very very best self published authors out there- I’d have got no where at all with it!! In fact- it was her wisdom and support that guided me through what can only be described as a very complex process if you are resident outside of the USA. Poor Lily must have been dreading looking at her email in case it was full of questions about the self publishing process from me!!
Providing you follow all the rules and get your formatting right, the actual uploading of a book is very straightforward- it is the tax and bank forms that are enough to make you want to put down your pen and never pick it up again!!
The real pain is the W8-BEN form- which is something you have to fill in concerning US tax- I would talk you through how to fill it in- but I can’t!! I had to run to Lily and my good friend Kev Blisse many times in the process of filling in that bugger of a form- I swear it’ll give me nightmares for weeks to come!!
The main thing you need to have is a TIN or EIN number- the 2 options for non-US residents to make sure the American government don’t take 30% of your takings in tax. As yet I haven’t managed to get one of these, as the number you have to ring comes complete with at least a 15 minute period on hold- and I never have 15 mins to spend on an International phone call!! But I know I’ll have to do it soon- I confess, I’m putting off the evil moment (I hate talking on the phone at the best of times!!)
The other 2 things you have to have concern the form about your bank details- your IBAN number and your BIC number (sometimes called a Swift code). I just popped into my local bank branch and they gave them to me there and then- that bit was easy!!
Apart from all that of course- you need your story, a blurb, and a cover. I just love the cover to Christmas Kink- it was put together for me my Liz Ponting, a freelance designer who I met during her time at Xcite/Accent. I just love it’s suggestive simplicity! (If you want her services just ask and I’ll put you in touch!)
So now I’m just waiting to see what happens- to see if the time I spent getting everything together was worth it!!
Watch this space…
Happy Reading

Guest Post from Yolanda Shoshana – The Magick of Scent
I’m delighted to be able to bring you a brand new guest to my site today- the incredible Yolanda Shosha- witch, clairvoyant, seduction alchemist, and so much more…this is fascinating…
Over to you Yolanda…
I love talking about the power and magick of scent which is why I recently created delicious scents based on my characters in my new magickal novelette, Coven of the Courtesan. Each character has a sexy perfume potion inspired by them and then there is the Goddess Magickal Mist based in rose water to heighten a woman’s vibration. Totally thrilled to bring this conversation to here. Thanks so much Kay Jaybee
One of the best tools for foreplay in the art of seduction is magickal aromatherapy. It was the Egyptians who first created perfume and the bases for what is known as magickal aromatherapy. In fact historical seductress, Cleopatra, use to wear jasmine perfume on her lips. When her lovers kissed her, it would leave her scent with them. Her intent was to make men think of her after she left their presence. She also would put jasmin on the sails of her boat so that Mark Antony would smell her in the distance as she was on her way to him. Now you see why she gave him a hard on right?!
Magickal aromatherapy uses the power and healing of scent with visualization to conjure what your heart desires. Using magickal aromatherapy can help you conjure seduction and sex that brings passion with a heightened vibration.Smells affect all of your senses which is why it is such an aphrodisiac.
Here are four suggestions for notes that conjure love and sex magick. You can simply use put oils on your body, in a burner or use them in candles to ignite scent into your boudoir what I also like to call the “love temple”.
Vanilla- Most people are familiar with this scent. It is one of the top smells that men love. It is great for sexual arousal. Light up a vanilla candle to set the sensual mood.
Cardamom- A luxurious scent that simulates the appetite. It works well to conjure love, lust and sex. A good one to have in the nightstand if you know what I mean.
Fressia- The lovely scent is great to smell for a loving relationship. It also frees your mind in case you have has a lot of things going on in the relationship.
Lavender- This lovely and popular scent conjures up divine love. Great for your tantric make out sections.
Incorporate magickal aromatherapy into what you wear for your perfume as well, the more natural the perfume the better. Though there are some smells such as gardenia that do not come in an essential oil, so in those cases use what you have.

Writers Need Writers- The British Museum, Erotica 2013, and the Brit Babes
Last week I filled you in on my adventure at the Erotica 2013 event. It was a brilliant experience, and I loved every second. However, as well as having all the fun and satisfaction of meeting my readers, selling my books, and generally soaking up the sites, such weekends serve another- equally important- purpose for me. They allow me to catch up with my writer friends. I can’t underline enough exactly how important this is!
Writers- as you probably know- (at least half of you reading this will be writers yourselves) – are a rather self doubting lot. We sit in splendid isolation, scribbling down our thoughts, dreams and ideas. We weave words into complex plots, and hope against hope that we can keep you guessing until the very end of our stories- and quite often along the way, we lose ourselves just a little bit. We constantly doubt our abilities, unendingly worry that the work in progress is never going to match up the book we wrote before, and feel as if we are racing against time to reach a finish line of our own creation, which nine times out of ten we have placed far too close to the start post in the first place.
In other words- we are our own worst enemies!!
Writers need other writers! We need to meet up every now and then to remind ourselves that we are not the only idiot in the world. To remind ourselves that our comrades are also trying to push a pea up the side of Vesuvius with their noses while simultaneously doing the washing up and making sure the ironing basket doesn’t overflow! This writer – and I know I’m speaking for a few friends as well- needs to hear every now and then that she isn’t the only loony in the bin!!
So, in the eternal search for some form of sanity, to co-inside with this year’s trip to Erotica, my wonderful friend Kd Grace and I treated ourselves to an evening in London to chat, laugh, tell each other we can both write after all, and drink coffee- we both drink A LOT of coffee!!
As soon as we arrived at our hotel, Kd Grace and I dumped ourt luggage, and headed into the city for a few precious hours together. The reality of living in different parts of the country means we rarely get time together when we aren’t working, so we always make the most of it. This time, we started as we meant to go on, by indulging in some well deserved coffee and cake, before heading to one of my very favourite places in the world- The British Museum.
Currently the British Museum is hosting a Shunga exhibition, and Kd managed to snag us a couple of tickets! If you are in hailing distance of London I urge you to visit.
Shunga is the name of a style of Japanese erotica which was illustrated on scrolls and books hundreds of years ago.
Forgive this simplistic description- I simply can’t do what we saw justice…it was amazing.
As Kd and I wandered around we must have used the phrase “Nothing New Under the Sun” a dozen times or more. In this modern western world we are so confident of our originality, of our daring erotica and pornography. And yet in fifteenth century Japan erotic scrolls were given to new married couples as guides to what to do. Unlike in the extremely repressed Britain of the time, which was suffering under King James and his belief in the divine right of kings, the Japanese were promoting the pleasure of sexual activity. Wow- how times have changed on that front…
For two hours Kd and I wandered around, thrilled and awed by what we saw- until our stomachs reminders that we needed to eat became relentless, and we departed in search of food, more writerly chatter, and much more laughter.
Refreshed, rebooted, and dressed in a rather skimpy skirt in my case and a glorious shimmery number in Kd’s, the following day we headed off to Erotica- and there met out other partners in crime, fab friends, and fellow Brit Babes Lucy Felthouse and Victoria Blisse.
One of the reasons we formed the Brit Babes- which also includes Tabitha Rayne, Lexie Bay, Emmy Ellis and Lily Harlem- apart from as a forum to provide readers with a well written library of erotica- was to be a support group for each other! If one of us needs help, one of the others always is always on the end of the email- if we’re stuck on a plot, there are 7 writers to ask for guidance- and if one of us is having a bad day- then we all understand- because we’re all been in that position at least once a fortnight!
This blog is just to say YIPPEE for other writers- because only writers can truly keep writers sane!
Happy reading
Kay xxx

Made To Last
by Anya Richards
The year from Hell stretched to two, and everything that
could go wrong did. For my husband and me sex wasn’t the
answer, but it sure went a long way toward helping us reconnect,
remember what’s important and release some of the
pent-up stress. With a reaffirmation of the bonds we share,
we were once more ready to face the world, together.
It’s one o’clock in the morning, and I’m wide-awake.
This isn’t anything new, unfortunately. Recently sleep has become
an elusive, craved and yet frightening concept. It sometimes provides
relief, sometimes makes things worse, as problems follow me into
dreamland and continue their unrelenting torture.
Beside me, my husband sighs and rolls onto his side. From the
tenor of his breathing I know he’s dead to the world, and annoyance flashes through me.
How can he sleep so soundly, night after night, while I lie awake, my brain
unable to shutdown long enough for me to nod off?
But I know I’m not alone with my fears. All the signs of stress are
there in him too. Just this evening I looked across the living room and
caught him staring out the window, eyes unfocused, fingers tapping a
sharp, staccato rhythm on the arm of his chair. He’s usually calm,
almost serene, just the type of man a high-voltage woman like me
needs. He’s my anchor, the voice of reason when I’m tempted to go off
the deep end. It hurts to see him obviously restless, with worry etching
new lines into his beloved, beautiful face.
Staring up into the darkness, I start cataloging our problems,
the relentless cycle starting anew. Instantly the muscles in my neck
tighten and my stomach knots. I try to think of something else—
concentrate on the plot of my latest book—but within minutes I’ve
somehow circled back to reality. Sometimes I think I’d feel better if
I could just cry, let it out, but that’s not my way. Tears have always
been something to avoid, repress, fight. They’re a weakness I can’t
allow myself. If I start I might not be able to stop, and that thought
scares me more than any other. For me, that heralds the onset of
madness.
As though sensing my terror, my husband moves closer, his arm
settling across my stomach. That simple touch, the sensation of his
warmth so close, brings a sob close to the surface and I’m forced to
swallow it down. I don’t feel as though I deserve his affection right
now. I have a sneaky suspicion the blame for our current problems
rests squarely on my shoulders. Yet, it feels so good having him beside
me. Instead of moving away I roll onto my side, facing away from him,
and spoon closer.
