Cock & Bull Blog Tour, Day 5: JP Bowie

Day 5 of the Cock & Bull Blog Tour is JP Bowie, here on my blog! Hooray!

Remember, at the end of the tour, we're giving away a grand total of $300 in Amazon gift cards. Every comment you leave along the way is an entry in our drawing.

And now, I'll turn it over to JP.

*****

Hi everyone, I am J.P. Bowie and I've been writing gay fiction since 2000. My first m/m erotic romance novel "My Vampire and I" was published by Total-e-bound in 2008 . Since then I've had twenty-seven books published by TEB, six of them part of the "My Vampire and I" series – Book 7 is due out sometime next year.

My new book "A Ghost Story" out on Jan.9th is set in Manchester, England.

"Past and present exist side by side as the ghost of a young poet seeks to protect the family living in the house he haunts."

The story is of course fiction, but some of the events that take place, noises in the night, doors slamming etc. are based on fact. Our family home in Aberdeen was briefly invaded by poltergeists, so some of the writing comes from those events.

I love writing – it is in a way the perfect escape from all that ails you. Inventing new characters, new adventures for them, having them fall in love even under  the worst kind of circumstances is the kind of challenge I like. In Nowhere to Hide a young doctor and an Aussie soldier fight rebels, slave traders and the scorching heat of the desert yet manage to fall in love.

The hardest part of being a writer is of course time constraints – I'd love to do this full-time – maybe one day in the not too distant future! Right now I'm working on a couple of short stories for the Lust Bites part of TEB – no titles yet and a new Nick Fallon investigation for MLR Press

I read so many books, ebooks and traditional, and have a slew of favorite authors. Robert Crais who write mysteries is a definite inspiration and also Armistead Maupin who wrote Tales of the City and introduces crazy but very real characters in all his stories.

My partner Phil and I are planning a trip to Italy next year with stopovers in Paris and London. After doing the research for my novel 'Trip of a Lifetime" I couldn't wait to actually go see for myself if I got it remotely right. There might just be another story there.

I'd like to thank Nicki, Claire and all the wonderful people at Total-e-bound for the enthusiasm and support they give me and all their other authors. Thanks, Carol Lynne, for the introduction to TEB – it's been a wondrous journey at times!

Today, we're giving away a copy of A Ghost Story. Leave a comment to be entered in the drawing. Each comment also enters you into our grand prize drawing.

You can see our full schedule here. Tomorrow we'll be at JP Bowie's blog. Be sure you stop by!

You can pre-order A Ghost Story here. It will be released on January 9th.

Robert 'Robbie' Clavell, a young Victorian poet, is murdered by a jealous competitor, but his murderer, not content with ending Robbie's life, also invokes an ancient curse that forces his spirit to remain earthbound.

When Jamie Barrett, a dancer in London's West End, receives a phone call from his mother telling him of strange knocking noises and furniture moving about, he travels home to Manchester to investigate and give support to his mother and his twelve year old niece, Laura.

Advised to contact a psychic for help, Jamie meets Kevin Singleton, and despite the seriousness of what they discover, the two men find a mutual attraction. Kevin explains to Jamie and his mother that their recent family tragedies had opened a portal allowing base spirits to enter and feed off of Laura's youthful and vibrant energy.

Kevin is able to make a psychic connection with Robbie who tells him that George Russell, his murderer, is the one responsible for the upheaval in the Barrett household. But when Robbie tries to help Kevin exorcise Russell's spirit, Russell summons up an even darker force – one that could not only destroy the house and everyone in it, but ensure Robbie's spirit will never find his way home.

Holiday Recipe

Happy Holidays! I hope the season finds you all well and happy! I missed Saturday Snark last week, and again this week. Sorry about that. This time of year is so hectic! I'm sure you can all relate.

Anyway…

Years ago, my family decided to do away with the big Christmas dinner. It was too much like Thanksgiving. Instead, we do a big brunch on Christmas. My daughter (who is the only child in the entire family) gets her Santa gifts first thing in the morning, and then we stuff ourselves with brunch and coffee and mimosas, and then we open the rest of our gifts. Today, I thought I'd share my recipe for Stuffed French Toast. I've adapted this from a recipe in my favorite cookbook, Colorado Collage.

Giant loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese
12 eggs
1/2 cup maple syrup
2 cups milk
1 can pie filling (whichever type you prefer)

Grease 13×9 inch baking pan. Place half of the bread crumbs evenly over the bottom of the pan. Spread softened cream cheese over bread (or, cut chilled cream cheese into cubes and scatter over the layer of bread). Top with the can of pie filling (my family prefers blueberry, but we've also used cherry and raspberry, and I'm sure it would be fabulous with peach). Arrange remaining bread cubes over the top.

In large bowl, combine eggs, milk and maple syrup. Whisk to blend. Pour evenly over bread in the baking dish. Cover with foil and chill overnight.

Preheat oven to 350°. Bake, covered with foil, for 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking 30 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown. Serve with your favorite syrup.

I'm going to add a blog hop widget below. I'd love to see everybody's favorite holiday recipes. Even if it's a post you put up ages ago, please share it in the Linky Tool below.

However you celebrate this time of year, I hope it's full of love and joy and all things good! Merry Christmas!
