Dressed In Starlight
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I walked into Camille La Vie in New York and I was dazzled by the dresses. So many of them looked like they were made from starlight. (smiles)
I could imagine a starlight-themed event featuring many of the couples (and more) from my stories.
I could picture Dita from Dark Thoughts wearing something like this to a grand event. She’d likely have a gun strapped to the small of her back and have daggers strapped to her boots.
Illona from Containing Malice might like this dress. The sleeveless style would allow her to more easily wear her medic jacket over top it.
This dress looks like it could be fabricated from projectile-proof material and that would appeal to Eirene Ours from Seizing Power. It also conveys strength, which she would love.
I could see Taelyn from Baring Grudge in this dress. The full skirt could hide a few explosives and she would have an arm designed to match it. Perhaps the mechanical arm would light up and cause the material to sparkle even more.
I think the floral and leaf design on this dress would appeal to Joan from Releasing Rage. It would remind her of the agri-lot where she grew up. The horizontal lines would appeal to the engineering side of her.
The classic lines of this dress might appeal to history-loving Quinn from B Free. B would worship at her feet. (grins)
The drama in this gown would appeal to Princess Nancy from Testing Truth. (smiles) Her Mom-Of-Her-Heart might try to talk her into having this fabricated in pink, however.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 24th
I received first round edits for Provoking Odium, the first story in the Cyborg Unity series (releasing in June), this week.
Ugh. The revisions were extensive. We’re talking burn half the story to the ground an rewrite it.
BUT stars, the rewrite is SO much better. Provoking Odium now hits me in the feelz so hard. (grins) I think my editor will love this revised story. And I suspect you’ll love it also.

Love At First Sight And More
I write fated to mate/instalove/love at first sight stories because that’s the only type of romantic love I know. I fell in love with the (now) Dear Wonderful Hubby at first sight and decades later, we’re still very much in love. He’s my best friend. I can’t imagine life without him.
But I also truly believe there has to be more than that first rush of ‘knowing’. I fell in love with Dear Wonderful Hubby at first sight. THEN I found out our stances on major life issues were aligned and that solidified our relationship.
The Dear Wonderful Hubby was working multiple jobs while going through school when I met him, for example. I was also working multiple jobs while going through school. We were both dedicated to our family and we were both extremely loyal, honest people. We believed in giving back to the world. We didn’t believe in wasting…well…anything (he drove a very old yet well maintained car). The list went on and on.
I try to show this type of alignment also in my stories. The love interests might not seem like a match at first but when we dig deeper, we see, at their cores, they hold the same values.
That’s the ‘Ever After’ in the Romantic Happy Ever After. (grins)

Sentient Plants And Fungi
In North Bound, we met Steve, the male-hating plant ruler of Balazoid Minor. Steve doesn’t speak but he is extremely skilled at communicating and woe betide anyone who doesn’t follow his commands. (grins)
It turns out… fungi here on Earth also communicate.
Scientists have recently proven that fungi ‘talk’ to other fungi using electrical signals. Thus far, they’ve uncovered at least 50 different ‘words’ in a fungi’s vocabulary.
It amazes me that we’ve been on this amazing planet for thousands of years and we still only know a tiny bit of how it all works. That’s so awe-inspiring!

Throwback Thursday – Taking Vengeance
I LOVE enemies-to-lovers romances. I love the flipping of intense hate to intense love, the heat of the emotions from loathing to lust to caring. There’s so much passion, so much emotion.
Taking Vengeance is one of my favorite enemies-to-lovers cyborg romances I have ever written. Vengeance hates all humans. Astrid, the Buoir Berserker, hates all cyborgs. These two warriors are determined to kill each other…and they get dang close to doing that. (grins)
Taking Vengeance
The only force stronger than their hate is their love.
Vengeance hates all humans. They killed every being he ever cared about. When the huge C Model cyborg is told he’s genetically compatible with the enemy, he makes it his mission to capture the female and use her to expel all humans from his home planet. That should be disappointingly easy. She’s a weak, fragile human.
Then she blows up his ship, blasting to bits his preconceived notions about the enemy.
Astrid, aka the Buoir Berserker, hates all cyborgs. They killed her entire clan, including her baby sister. The warrior female has vowed to hunt down and destroy the enemy. When a savage cyborg arrogantly puts his hard, sexy body within her reach, she does the only thing a female can do—she peppers his muscular physique with projectiles.
The more passionately they fight, the stronger their attraction becomes. Neither of them will relent on their missions, yet they can’t keep their hands off each other. Their battle will either end in love to last an eternity or in death.

Growing Things
I’m indulging my farming roots (my Awesome Grandpa was a farmer) and will be attempting to grow tomatoes this year.
Why tomatoes?
Well, I love them. I eat them raw. I cook with them. I freeze them if I have too many to devour before they go bad. I have a shelf filled with canned tomatoes.
Tomatoes are likely also one of the only veggies the backyard mafia squirrels will allow us to grow. The furry yet bossy little critters supposedly don’t like tomato plants.
Because the growing season in my corner of the universe is short, I am starting the tomato plants inside under a grow light system the Dear Wonderful Hubby has obtained second-hand and set up for me.
I’ll likely give you updates during the summer as to how the tomatoes are progressing. (grins)

Provoking Odium And Beginnings
Provoking Odium (releasing in June) is the first story in the Cyborg Unity portion of the Cyborg Continuum.
Rebel Cyborgs, the last series, focused on the two rivaling cyborg factions. Cyborg Unity will focus on the joining of these two factions.
This means we’ll meet up with cyborgs and genetic matches from the Homeland AND from Mercury Minor. In Provoking Odium, for example, Eirene Ours, Power, Lore, and many others make brief appearances. In the other stories, there will be more representation from the Homeland.
The Humanoid Alliance, the baddies, will unfortunately make appearances also. Their plans for universe domination are progressing and that puts every cyborg, every genetic match, every offspring in danger.

Sloths And Other ‘Alien’ Creatures
The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I traveled to Roatán and while we were there, we visited a sloth sanctuary. I joked that if a sloth-like creature appeared in one of my cyborg romances, no one would believe such a creature could exist.
“The creature moves slowly, sports huge claws on their hands and feet, and there’s a permanent smile plastered on their face.”
(grins) Yeah. That doesn’t sound fictional at all.
Look at that adorable smile! And those huge claws!
Sloths have an interesting profile also.
There were sloth babies! They are hard to see here. We didn’t get very close to them (we used the zoom function) as we didn’t want to hurt them. Sloths are extremely sensitive to scents.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 17th

Anyhoo… I started writing Grin And Bear Him, the second story in the Cyborg Unity series (likely releasing in September) this week and I already love this story!
We met Grin in Breathing Vapor. He has been waiting for a while for his genetic match and he doesn’t 100.0000% believe he deserves love. The Humanoid Alliance almost decommissioned him.
We will meet Grin’s humanoid female in Provoking Odium (releasing in June). She has a mission of her own and she has no time for love.
So, of course, love happens. (laughs) Life is like that.
Provoking Odium remains with my Awesome Editor. I don’t think I’ll get the first round of edits back for at least another week.
Which is great because I’m eager to continue writing the first draft of Grin And Bare Him this week! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!
