Van Gogh Nature Inspired Garments
The Dear Wonderful Hubby snapped some photos of some Van Gogh inspired outfits we saw at the Original Immersive Van Gogh Exhibit at The Shops at Crystals in Vegas.
I could envision some future heroines, especially from agri-lots, wearing garments like these for special events.
When I think Van Gogh, I often think sunflowers. A heroine bedecked in fresh flowers local to her planet would draw everyone’s gaze.
This outfit is definitely a celebration of the harvest.
This headpiece is another celebration of the harvest. This would be perfect for shorter heroines who wish to look taller than they truly are. (grins)
This feathered dress is very otherworldly. I could envision a shapeshifter wearing it.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – April 3rd
I made the deadline! Woot! Provoking Odium, the first cyborg romance in the new Cyborg Unity series (releasing in June), has been sent to my Awesome Editor! I’m super happy with this story. I think you’ll really enjoy it.
There will be at least three rounds of edits on Provoking Odium. I pushed the storytelling in a few places and those scenes will likely need serious tweaking. (grins)
This upcoming week will be spent thinking about the next story…which will, I believe, be the second story in the series. We meet the heroine in Provoking Odium and she isn’t letting me put her story on pause. She has a mission and she wants to complete it. The future of her kind depends on this.

Are We What We Write?
I’ve been experiencing a particular type of (sometimes extremely entertaining – grins) situation more and more online.
I will talk about climate change on social media and someone will point to the explosions in my books and tell me those explosions contribute to climate change. I will talk about domestic violence on social media and someone will point to the violence in my books, call me a hypocrite.
I could talk about how those explosions aren’t happening here on Earth. Or that maybe climate change is fixed in the future.
But the most important thing is…
I’m not the books I write.
I might have things in common with the heroes or heroines. But they aren’t me. And I don’t approve of or like everything that happens in my stories.
For example, I don’t like conflict in my non-writing life. At all.
A well-written Romance Novel, in contrast, usually requires all sorts of conflict. A no conflict Romance Novel would be VERY short. (laughs) The couple (or more) would exchange ‘I love you’s on the first page and that would be it. They’d have their Romantic Happy Ever After. The story would be over. To craft a longer, more thrilling story, we NEED conflict.
In the Sax household, as another example, we try not to intentionally kill anything. Spiders live in our basement over the winter and we take them outside in the spring. I have a plant on the windowsill that has been dead for months and I water it weekly, hoping it will miraculously return to life.
In my stories, in contrast, beings die. All sorts of beings. Good, bad, other. The stories are set during war. It would be very unusual not to have any deaths during a war.
And my life is very boring compared to the lives of the beings in my stories. You do NOT want my stories to reflect my life. It would be 200 pages of someone sitting in front of a computer screen in her daytime pajamas.
Writers are not usually what they write. And you don’t want our stories to be a reflection of who we are and what we do. There’s a reason there aren’t many (or any that I know about) reality shows based on writers. We’re quite boring. (grins)

April Fools’ Day Or Poisson D’Avril
I won’t be online much today as it is April Fools’ Day, a day when people try to trick others. I’m MUCH too trusting and I usually believe them. (sheepish grin) So I tend to avoid people on this day.
I spent a bit of my childhood in a French Canadian town and I much prefer the French Canadian April 1st tradition. The day is called Poisson D’Avril.
Poisson means fish in French and it usually involves a fish in some way. Some people stick a paper fish on unsuspecting folks’ backs. If there’s a prank or any other foolery, there is a fish involved. It is fun to spot the fish references and we trusting folks know if a fish isn’t present, it isn’t a trick.

Throwback Thursday – Warlord’s Bounty
Warlord’s Bounty was the first story I wrote in the Chamele Barbarian Warlords series. But I decided it would be nice to have a bridge story (Warlord Sky) before this one.
I love Khan. He is the most physical of the Warlords. He loves to fight, excels in battle.
His gerel (fated mate), Zeta, is also a very physical being. She’s a bounty hunter and is skilled at fighting.
They are both determined and when they meets, stars, sparks fly!
Warlord’s Bounty
Wanted: One Barbarian Warrior.
The bigger the bounty, the more dangerous the target.
Khan, a Chamele Warlord, has a huge bounty on his head. His enemy wants him captured and is offering any being in the universe an outrageous number of credits to accomplish that.
Khan wants to be captured, but only if the being apprehending him is a tiny, brown-eyed female with wickedly sharp daggers and an even sharper tongue. His passion for the feisty human can’t be inhibited by restraints. He’ll allow her to subdue him…in a variety of enticing ways.
When she finally collects her credits, he’ll collect his revenge, killing his enemy and claiming his little bounty hunter forever.
Zeta doesn’t do forever. After a lifespan of chasing dangerous beings across galaxies, apprehending and trading them for credits, she doesn’t get involved emotionally…with anyone.
Khan might be fierce and sexy and the most dominant male she has ever encountered, but the barbarian is also her target, and once she sates herself with his body, she’ll betray him.
That’s her job.

The Price Of Leadership
One of my buddies was telling me every time she leaves the house wearing a mask, someone says something nasty to her.
That, unfortunately, is the price of leadership. Of being different. (And yes, being different is a type of leadership. Every leader starts with only one follower – themselves.)
A leader is out front. They’re separated a bit from the crowd. They draw attention. And not all that attention is positive. Leaders can become targets of insecure, unwell beings.
Eirene Ours and Power, the heroine and hero of Seizing Power, know this. Power embraces the hate. (eye roll) Eirene Ours tries to win over her haters. But they realize they will always face this type of negative energy.

Everyone Is A Little Bit Damaged
Some buddies have asked me why so many of the beings in the cyborg series have tragic pasts and unhealed trauma.
In Seizing Power, Lethe, Eirene Ours’ mom, shares why this is true for the cyborgs.

“They’re all damaged, Daughter.” Her mom gently smiled at her. “The Humanoid Alliance tortured them in every way a being could be tortured. For hundreds, thousands of human lifespans. Your warrior didn’t escape that fate.”

But this doesn’t merely apply to the cyborgs. The Humanoid Alliance have been waging a universe-wide war. Humans and humanoids have endured battle, hardship, death. That changes beings.
As the pandemic has changed us here on Earth.
The beings in the cyborg world need time and love and acceptance to help them heal. We’ll need that also.

Haus Of Gaga – The Meat Dress
No visit to the Haus of Gaga: Las Vegas exhibition (found in the Park MGM Casino in Vegas) is complete without a viewing of Lady Gaga’s infamous Meat Dress (and shoes and hat), the Franc Fernandez ensemble she wore to 2010 Video Music Awards.
This dress has since been cured into meat jerky and painted red because, of course, preserved meat is normally brown.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – March 27th
I’m finishing the second draft of Provoking Odium, the first standalone cyborg romance in the new Cyborg Unity series (releasing in June). I love this story. I think you’ll love it also.
This week, I’m completing a fast third draft. I’ll definitely have book brain so my blog posts might be a bit unconventional. (grins) And I will likely be slow with returning messages. I like to keep the entire story in my head during second and third drafts and that doesn’t leave room for much else. (laughs)

The Long View
One of the (many) things I love about cyborgs is…they and their genetic matches can possibly live forever. And because they have the potential to live forever, they take a long view on pretty much everything, including relationships.
Yes, they are normally eager to breed with their genetic matches. Their nanocybotics are relayed during breeding to their fragile humans and humanoids, protecting those beings and granting them the potential to live forever also. Plus the desire they have for their matches is powerful.
But they can progress as slowly in these relationships as their genetic matches require emotionally. They can gradually build trust. They can ‘save’ activities for the future.
Cyborgs also take the long view in many other areas. It took Ghost and Lethe many solar cycles to clean up Mercury Minor, for example, after the planet had been ravaged by the Humanoid Alliance. When structures were built and systems were put in place, they were done so with the processing they’d be on the planet forever.
Living forever changes a being’s private goals also. Many humans (including myself) think about how we want to make our mark on the universe, on the legacy we’ll leave when we’re no longer here.
Cyborgs don’t plan to go anywhere. They don’t need to leave a legacy. They ARE a legacy.
It is an interesting way to look at life.
