Why You Should Subscribe To My Newsletter

In the Dauntless series, there will be a number of stories with secondary romances. I think Drift Would is the only story that won’t have one.

Secondary romances are just that…secondary. I won’t be able to delve into them with the level of detail I do with the main romances. We won’t hear the internal thoughts of that couple (or more). That would be distracting.

What I CAN do, however, is write scenes that reveal those internal thoughts and then share them in my newsletter on non-release months.

Gardening – Good Soil Rarely Just Happens

I was chatting with a neighbor and he was talking about how terrible his soil is and how he wishes he had good soil like we do.

He COULD easily have good soil like we do. He could have BETTER soil. He has more trees and that gives him more leaves to mulch with.

But he doesn’t use those leaves. He doesn’t spread them over the garden as mulch. Or create leaf mold with them. He bags the leaves and the city picks them up for THEIR composting program.

He doesn’t compost. And he doesn’t buy compost. None of that good stuff is sprinkled over his yard.

He certainly doesn’t get bags of used coffee grounds from the coffee shops and sprinkle THAT over his year.

He also bags his grass after he has cut it. He doesn’t leave it on the ground as free fertilizer.

His yard is extremely neat. But his soil sucks. And this is starting to impact his grass and other plants. They are being starved of nutrients and stressed. His soil also doesn’t hold much moisture. When the heat of the summer comes, the plants will likely die.

Good soil doesn’t take much work. It certainly takes less work than what he’s doing to keep his yard his version of tidy. But it doesn’t merely happen.

Muse Food – Sweetgrass Baskets And Details To Include

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this beautiful Sweetgrass Basket in a display in Charleston, South Carolina, USA.

The details on it are amazing and, if the basket was mentioned in one of my stories, those details would be ‘lost’. It would take too many words to describe the basket perfectly. And that description would distract readers from the core story.

My cyborg romances aren’t about baskets. (grins)

While writing, we have to choose the details we include carefully. Save the surplus details for blog posts and behind the scenes discussions.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – May 5

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spotted this adorable street kitten on one of our many travels. He was warming himself on the brick insert and his mom was close by.

The final files for Drift Would, the second core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in July), have been loaded to booksellers. Woot! We should be all ready to go for release day (knock on wood).

I’m crafting the first draft of Claiming Cure, the third core story in the Dauntless Cyborgs series (releasing in November). It is going as slowly as usual. (sheepish grin) But the words are being written and I already love this story.

Have a wonderful week, my friends. (tackle hugs) Enjoy the May flowers (April showers bring May flowers). Revel in the color, the scents, the delicate petals and the bees buzzing around them. This world is such an amazing place!

Happy Star Wars Day!

Happy Star Wars Day, my friends!

Rogue One is the favorite Star Wars work in the Sax household. The Dear Wonderful Hubby, especially, loves the premise of a group of rebels taking on a dangerous mission, knowing they’re doomed but doing it because it will save their world(s).

Of all the stories I’ve written thus far, Drift Would (releasing in July) has the greatest Rogue One vibes. Yes, it IS a romance. The romantic couple survives and gets their romantic happy ever after. But there is also sacrifice and bravery and a dangerous almost impossible mission and other Rogue One good stuff in it.

Strike Zone – Missions Not Completed

At the beginning of Strike Zone, Strike, the cyborg hero, is given a mission.

He doesn’t complete it.

He makes progress on it. And he helps his female complete HER important mission. But he doesn’t finish his initial assignment.

And that’s okay. It doesn’t make him any less of a hero.

Sh*t happens. Changes occur. Life is fluid.

Strike processes there are millions of cyborgs who are ready, willing and eager to complete his mission.

There are also Drift and Cure, two not-so-eager cyborgs. (grins)

Throwback Thursday – Intrepid Encounter

The heroine of Intrepid Encounter is a VALKYRIE! (grins) Yes, she is one of those mythical warriors. And she IS very much a warrior. She is determined to retrieve a valued weapon of hers and seeks to punish the beings who took it.

Intrepid, the hero, is the captain of the Dauntless. The cyborg and his crew are assigned the nearly impossible task of stopping the Valkyrie…permanently.

This is a true enemies-to-lovers romance. It has fighting and loving and dangerous missions. All the good stuff. (laughs)

Intrepid Encounter

Cyborg vs. Valkyrie

Blood will be spilled and hearts will be captured.

Intrepid and his crew on the Dauntless guard the border to the cyborg sector. The D Model cyborg captain has dedicated his lifespan to protecting their homeland. He’ll do anything to secure the space and keep his brethren safe.

That includes confronting a Valkyrie intent on vengeance.

The female warrior is beautiful, brave, strong…and Intrepid’s genetic match. She’s the one being he is fated to claim. Her voice causes his circuits to hum. Her touch produces a passion he struggles to control.

But if he has to stop her…permanently…to protect his kind, he will make that sacrifice.

Olrun has been tracking the whereabouts of a one-of-a-kind object. The stolen item is critical to the safety of her Valkyrie sisters, and she’ll do anything to retrieve it.

That includes waging war on a tall, broad-shouldered cyborg warrior sporting brilliant-blue eyes and grimly set lips.

The male might…just might…have battle skills matching her own. And that excites the immortal fighter. She craves his rough handling, his punishing embrace, his stern words.

But Olrun’s desire for the cyborg won’t distract her from achieving her goal. She will shield her fellow Valkyries from danger, even if that means ending Intrepid’s lifespan in the process.

Drift And Knocking On Wood

In the Sax Household, we knock on wood quite a bit.

We’ll say something like “We have a great life” and then we’ll immediately follow that with “Knock on wood” so we don’t curse ourselves and draw energy that changes our great life to a not-so-great life.

That response is steeped in superstition and not-at-all based on logic or science. But we do it anyway because…well…it doesn’t cost us more than a few words and why take the risk?

And who knows? Doing that might have saved Drift from his fate (or Fates – grins).

At the end of Strike Zone, the pilot cyborg celebrates not being assigned to a mission. As he’s doing that, he DOES get assigned to it.

Did his celebration draw that reversal?

Logic says it didn’t. Those are two unrelated actions.

But the superstitious part of me says he might have avoided that assignment if he had knocked on wood.
