The Battle Against Earth Steve

This isn’t the vine but it is similar.

The Dear Wonderful Hubby and I spent most of yesterday trying to reduce the spread of a super aggressive vine over our back and front yard. I love vines but this particular one is strangling every bit of vegetation in its path. It is even killing the dandelions and I didn’t think anything could do that.

We jokingly call this vine Steve, naming it after Steve, the all-powerful sentient plant on Balazoid Minor (he appears in North Bound). Thankfully Earth Steve isn’t as bloodthirsty or as arrogant as the original. He IS as dominant, however. (grins)

Will we win the battle against Earth Steve? No. Not a chance. He is everywhere. We’re merely trying to give the other plants a chance to live.

North Bound

A mission-focused cyborg battles a captivating and dramatic distraction.

Throwback Thursday – Crash And Burn

Crash and Burn is the most emotionally grueling story I’ve ever written. It tore my heart out while crafting it and many reading buddies felt a similar way while reading it. This story is a three hanky read.

But it is a special story. Crash and Burn is a romance so, of course, it has a happy ever after for the main characters. Crash and Safyre have a unique relationship and a love tested by adversity. They battle against the odds and they also tend battle each other. (grins) They’re both strong-willed and have their own missions to complete.

Rage and Joan from Releasing Rage make a brief appearance in this story, as do many other cyborgs and their females.

Crash was manufactured to be one of the best warriors in the universe. The cyborg has spent many human lifespans fighting the enemy. But, unlike his battle-loving brethren, he doesn’t enjoy killing. When he escapes the Humanoid Alliance, he vows to never end another life.

Then he meets Safyre, an infuriating human female, and he considers breaking his vow.

Safyre will do anything to save her friend, the being she loves like a sister. She’ll ravish a huge hunky cyborg, kiss his best friend, and invoke scorching hot desires the male never realized he could feel. Dark soulful eyes, a quick wit, and a tempestuous passion won’t divert her from her mission.

Love, and a planet-destroying weapon, however, might stop her permanently.

Cyborgs And Earth

A reading buddy asked me if there will ever be a cyborg story set on Earth.

That COULD happen. I never say never. Whenever I do that, I’m usually presented with a story idea the very next day. (laughs)

But the probability is low.

Why?

Because the cyborgs were manufactured to fight the Humanoid Alliance’s (i.e. the humans’) wars against mostly non-human species. The majority of beings on Earth are humans.

And because most of the cyborgs were stationed far away from Earth. The Humanoid Alliance benefited from the physical distance between the less loyal humans (i.e. those not in deep with the Humanoid Alliance) and the cyborgs. The less beings knew about cyborgs, the less likely they were to figure out cyborgs are living, feeling beings, not emotionless weapons of war.

The Humanoid Alliance wanted to separate the majority of humans from the majority of cyborgs. The cyborgs would need a strong incentive to bridge that distance.

Cyborgs And Cleaning Cloths

In the cyborg world, the main method of cleaning skin and bodies is by using cleaning cloths.

Cleaning cloths are NOT wipes. (grins) They aren’t the little pieces of material some of us have been using to sanitize our hands during the pandemic. Those wouldn’t be effective at all for larger clean ups and for everyday use.

A few years ago, in the Before Times, I attended the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas and met a scientist/inventor. He was looking for funding for a project he was working on.

That project was a liquid-less fabric that could clean bodies, other fabrics, other surfaces. The technology it utilized was similar to electronic charges. The cleaning fabric was ‘recharged’ in a little machine.

He claimed his cleaning fabric was more effective than soap and water.

Cleaning cloths are an evolution of that idea. They are much more advanced and more effective than the demo cleaning fabric I saw.

You might be wondering…

Why don’t the cyborgs use water to clean themselves?

Water is more valuable than sunstones in the universe. Heck, I suspect in 300 years, drinkable water will be more valuable than diamonds right here on Earth.

The number of planets supplying water to the ever-increasing populations of humans and humanoids are few. Water can’t be squandered on cleaning beings or clothing or things. It has to be reserved for drinking.

So beings, being inventive, devised another solution – cleaning cloths. Cleaning cloths are portable, effective, can be used pretty much forever, and don’t require liquids.

Lucifer And Having Fun

I talked the Dear Wonderful Hubby into watching the first few episodes of Lucifer (available on Netflix in my corner of the universe) and he is now addicted to the TV show (which is based on characters crafted by Neil Gaiman). We’re watching it from the beginning.

There are a number of reasons why I love Lucifer. Tom Ellis, who plays Lucifer, is super hot. (grins) I also find D.B. Woodside, who plays Amenadiel, extremely attractive. There’s tremendous girl power in the show. The female characters often have bonding and supportive moments. There are demons and angels and, of course, the devil. I really enjoy the casually delivered quips and insults. They make me laugh.

But, most of all, I love how the cast always seems to be having fun. They have glints in their eyes when they are on screen, like they’re sharing a private joke. I feel the joy, the love in even the darkest episodes.

Joy is important for writers also. I think readers can feel when a writer is having fun, is loving a story. When I re-read a story, sometimes for the fifteenth time, I note if it makes me smile.

If the story makes me smile, I hope it will make you smile.

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – June 20th

I completed final edits for Baring Grudge, the third Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in August), this week and have sent it to my fabulous formatter (the Dear Wonderful Hubby). He started a brand new job this week so it might take some time before he sends it back to me for final proofs.

I’m still zipping along on B Free, the fourth Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in November). My target date to send it to my Awesome Editor is July 31st.

Going On Adventures

Whenever the Dear Wonderful Hubby and I are faced with anything new, we tell each other we’re going on an adventure.

Adventures rarely go smoothly. There is danger and peril and struggles to overcome or endure. But there is also wonder and joy and beauty and, when I’m with the Dear Wonderful Hubby, laughs (usually during inappropriate times – grins).

We don’t know what is waiting for us around the next bend…and that is part of the fun.

It is also a reminder that trials are temporary. We’ll get out of that quicksand, save ourselves from the boa constrictor, escape the big baddies.

And the best of things, treasures can be merely a few steps away. That treasure, itself, is a mystery. It could be a double rainbow, a hug from a good friend, a slice of tasty fruit. We don’t yet know. It is all very exciting!

Cover Reveal For B Free

Woot! I have a cover for B Free, the fourth Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in November).

This cover was designed by the always awesome Amanda Kelsey from Razzle Dazzle Design and I believe it captures the story’s primitive B Model hero perfectly!

I also crafted a rough preliminary blurb for the story (as a placeholder until I craft the final one).

B Free

B is the last remaining B Model cyborg. All of his brethren, the beings he trained with, fought with, cared deeply for, have perished.

Or so he believes.

When he intercepts a communication mentioning the existence of one of his kind, he has to investigate the source. The message could be a trap set by his enemies. He’ll take that risk if it secures him the companionship he requires to be fully functional.

What he finds is a daring human female who activates all his systems. She proudly proclaims she’s a historian, brandishing that information like a weapon before her. He wants to kiss the sass off her beautiful face, protect her from the dangers around them, claim her forever.

Quinn is on a quest to locate the mechanics of an early version cyborg. She believes the information captured within that frame will give her valuable insights into the past.

When her mission goes zombie-like beings levels of wrong, she comes face-to-face with a living, breathing B Model. He has big hands, a primitive countenance, and stern hard lips crafted for kissing.

She doesn’t trust him. He might be working for her competitor. Historians can be a tricksy bunch. And she doesn’t have time to indulge her desires.

Their shared enemy wants their precious specimens back and they’re willing to kill to retrieve them. One minor mistake could reduce B and Quinn to a mere line in the databases of history.

Throwback Thursday – Dark Flight

Orol, the hero of Dark Flight, is the most classically handsome of all the heroes in my story. And he is truly ‘classically’ handsome as he sports wings. (grins) He looks like an angel but he is SO not one. He’s Kralj’s second-in-command at the Refuge, is a fierce warrior, loves to fight.

Rhea, his heroine, is as strong as he is. She’s dedicated to her younger sister and would do anything, even team up with Orol, to protect her.

This story has a gladiator-in-space type feel to it. There are competitions, fights to the death. If you enjoy those types of stories, you might love Dark Flight.

Dark Flight

His mission. His challenge. His forever.

Orol, the Refuge’s second-in-command, has been given what he believes is a simple mission—escort two human females to the settlement. The winged warrior arrives at the meeting site to find one of the females missing and the other aiming a gun at his head. To rescue the first, he must capture the second.
