Throwback Thursday – Dark Flight

Orol, the hero of Dark Flight, is the most classically handsome of all the heroes in my story. And he is truly ‘classically’ handsome as he sports wings. (grins) He looks like an angel but he is SO not one. He’s Kralj’s second-in-command at the Refuge, is a fierce warrior, loves to fight.

Rhea, his heroine, is as strong as he is. She’s dedicated to her younger sister and would do anything, even team up with Orol, to protect her.

This story has a gladiator-in-space type feel to it. There are competitions, fights to the death. If you enjoy those types of stories, you might love Dark Flight.

Dark Flight

His mission. His challenge. His forever.

Orol, the Refuge’s second-in-command, has been given what he believes is a simple mission—escort two human females to the settlement. The winged warrior arrives at the meeting site to find one of the females missing and the other aiming a gun at his head. To rescue the first, he must capture the second. Once he has Rhea in his talons, however, he realizes he never wants to let her go.

Her enemy. Her captor. Her everything.

Rhea doesn’t trust anyone. She certainly doesn’t follow commands issued by a gorgeous flying male with glittering eyes, a beautiful face, and a seductive touch. That mission takes place on a smallremote planet. Its lush terrain should only be inhabited by the cyborgs they weresent to rescue, but Strain senses another presence on the surface. She iswatching him, tracking him, hunting him.

A fully operational cyborg would endher lifespan.

Kamyelle is the only one left ofher kind. Warriors have killed the other nonviolent human inhabitants of herplanet. She survived…barely…by hiding in the trees, observing her enemies, and coveringherself with lifeform scan-concealing mud.

When a handsome, gray-skinned,brilliant-blue-eyed male arrives, surrounded by weapon-carrying warriors, she hasto save him. Warriors harm and they kill. That is what they do.

Pre-orders And Editing

I’ve been loading stories (like Baring Grudge) for pre-order as soon as I’m confident the story works. That usually happens before it has been fully edited (the excerpts in the backs of previous stories haven’t been fully edited either).

Which means…

Early blurbs/book descriptions haven’t been fully edited…or edited at all.

Some writers place a few lines like… “Description coming soon.” But I like to give you more information about what you’re possibly pre-ordering.

Usually, we can figure out whose story it is by the title. Under Strain is clearly Strain’s story. Baring Grudge is Grudge’s story. The blurb relays a bit about the plot and the love interest(s).

Those blurbs/book descriptions are rough, however. They might have typos. They might be a bit awkward or confusing (which likely means the story is still a bit rough or confusing – grins). All that is fully my fault, not my Awesome Editor’s. She hasn’t yet seen these blurbs/book descriptions.

Big Cat Shifters And Lion Shifters

The first short(er) story in the Big Cat Shifter collection (published under C.S. Sax) features a lion shifter hero.

I love all three big cats featured in the omnibus-lions, tigers, and leopards. Tigers are my favorite of the three. I love their colors and stripes.

Entering Leopard Territory, the leopard shifter story, however, is my favorite story. I think Adar, the hero, is so fraggin’ sexy. (bites fists)

Yet I started the collection with the lion shifter hero.

Why?

Because the lion is known as the King of the Beasts. I thought it was fitting that we start with the King. (grins)

Cynthia Sax Weekly Update – June 13th

I’m still working on B Free, the fourth Rebel Cyborgs story (releasing in November), and it is kicking my a$$. It is just one of those stories, a story I have to fight for.

Those are often my favorite stories.

Though I didn’t fight too hard this week. (sheepish grin) As I mentioned yesterday, the Dear Wonderful Hubby is starting a new job on Monday. He’ll likely be working long hours, trying to ramp up quickly. So we took the week off and spent time together. We watched movies and hiked around and had some laughs.

While he applies himself to the new job starting tomorrow (he’ll still be working from home – we remain in semi-lockdown in our corner of the universe), I’ll have some much-needed conversations with B and his female. I’ll be back in the writing cave.

Have a wonderful week, my friends. (big hugs) Take a few moments out of every day for yourself. Read some great books. Laugh. Love. Enjoy yourself!

Changing Roles And Cyborgs

The Dear Wonderful Hubby is starting a new job on Monday. Woot!

He’ll be meeting new co-workers and clients, learning new jargon, acquired different skills.

He’s excited and a bit nervous. Change is always like that – a swirling vortex of emotions. The old ways or environment might not be ideal. That’s why we want to move from it. But we know it. We know how to navigate it. The new is…well…new. We’re not quite sure what to say or do or if we’ll find happiness.

I’ve been thinking quite a bit about what the cyborgs are now grappling with. They know how to be warriors, how to fight and kill. But the Homeland (and Mercury Minor) needs more than warriors. It needs beings in a vast array of roles. It’ll be exciting to witness how the cyborgs deal with that.

Under Strain And Odium

In Under Strain, we meet Odium, an E Model warrior who has been trapped in a structure with his brethren for solar cycles. He’s angry. He’s frustrated. He’s seeking vengeance for himself and for his brothers-in-arm.

Some reading buddies have asked me if Odium will have his own story.

He will definitely have his own story. I merely don’t know when I’ll tell it or who his heroine will be. I know Odium’s story won’t fit into the Rebel Cyborgs series. The December freebie story will be Valor’s and the other stories are set.

But it WILL be told…eventually. (grins)

Throwback Thursday – Breathing Vapor

A buddy recently asked me why Breathing Vapor is the second story in the cyborg series and not Crash And Burn.

The reason for that is because I wanted to explore the civilization on Tau Ceti before seeing its destruction. I wanted to learn about its inhabitants, care for them, view them as living, loving beings.

I also wanted to show that not all members of the Humanoid Alliance agree with what their leaders were doing. There are dissidents like Mira, the heroine. There are beings quietly or not-so-quietly trying to make a difference, make things better.

The Humanoid Alliance ARE evil and they have to be defeated. But some of their members are worthy of redemption, of trust, of love.

Breathing Vapor

Vapor is the most advanced cyborg the Humanoid Alliance has ever developed. He’s a finely honed weapon, a warrior without parallel, half man and half machine. No lock can contain him. No being can stop him. Whatever he wants, he takes.

He wants Mira Breazeal, the Designer’s daughter.

She’s his one temptation, his sexy target. Vapor shouldn’t crave her caresses, steal her kisses, make her scream with ecstasy. The cyborgs want her dead and they would question his loyalty if he didn’t kill her. The humans would shoot him on sight if he dared to touch her.

Their love is forbidden. Their desire could be lethal. One human and one cyborg will risk everything for a moment of passion.

Bonding Ceremonies – Chasing Mayhem

The celebration of marriages and other unions during this wonderful month of June wouldn’t be complete without the bonding ceremony found in Chasing Mayhem. The exchange of armlets and words play an important role in Imee’s culture and in her story.

Here is a snippet from Chasing Mayhem…

“I’m never releasing you.” He reached under the pile of body armor. “I’ve decided to bind you to me for all eternity.”

“No more games.” She pulled on the restraints. “I—”

He held out two silver-colored armlets, one small, one large, and she stopped talking, stunned. The gear-and-cog design was unique, intricate, beautiful.

But it was his words paired with his choice of gift that caused tears to prick her eyes and a ball of emotion to form in her throat. He wanted to bind their souls forever.

It was one of her secret wishes, a dream she held close to her heart.

“Don’t you dare joke about this, Mayhem.” She wouldn’t survive it.

“I’m serious.” And he did appear that way, his lips flat. “They’re manufactured from my mechanics, some of the most durable substances in the galaxy.”

He’d put a piece of himself in the armlets. Her vision clouded. “You fool. You shouldn’t have done that.” It must have hurt him.

“My nanocybotics replaced them.” He shrugged. “Our lifespans will be long. My mechanics were the logical choice.”

She suspected his decision had involved more than logic. “If we do this, our souls will be entwined until time ends.”

“They already are, my female.” He snapped the smaller armlet around her left biceps. “I give to you my soul for safekeeping. It is yours. In this lifespan and the next. Guard it well for I have no other.”

He had studied and learned the binding words. Imee stared at the armlet, unable to speak. His nanocybotics bubbled inside her. She wore his armlet, a symbol of his soul.

He’d always be with her. She would never be solitary.
