Making progress even without a personal assistant

I took advantage of the three-day weekend and worked super hard, but feel as though I’ve hardly made a dent in my to do list. Fortunately I write down everything I did, so I have proof of my accomplishments.

Ghosts, saloons, and superstars

My short story “The Next Dance” is in Fiction River: Tavern Tales!

Fiction River is an anthology series published by WMG Publishing, which also hosts the anthology workshop I went to in Oregon last February – and they purchased my short story at that workshop.

I’m very excited to have a story in Fiction River, and not just because my story is the only Western in this issue. (I was shocked to discover that in spite of the title “Tavern Tales,” I submitted the only Western!)

Hauntingly close to launch…

The Haunted bundle launches this Wednesday!!! This collection contains stories about ghosts, hauntings, and mysterious things by twenty different authors – including my short story “The Scent of Roses.”

Have you ever felt as though someone was watching you, but when you turned around no one was there?

How many times have you been unable to find something, then it later turned up in the exact place you’d searched over and over?

Why does your cat act as though it’s staring at something, even t...

Tentacles can be handy

I started a new story last week that’s about a monster. Well, it’s not really about a monster, it’s about a guy who discovers his family is a bit unusual. I haven’t gotten to the monster part yet, but it clearly is going to involve tentacles and water. This seems like a bad idea given that I don’t even like getting my face wet in the ocean, but the story appears to be determined to be written regardless.

This title is “The Late Bloomer,” which is not only the perfect title for this tale, it a...

Happy Jasper’s Gotcha Day!

Only a little over two weeks left until the Haunted bundle launches!

The stories in this bundle are, of course, related to ghosts, hauntings, and other spooky things. Here’s a tiny peek at a few of the authors who have stories in this bundle.

Steve Vernon, the “master of the booga-booga,” has published a number of ghost – and monster – stories set in or near Nova Scotia.

P.D. Cacek, who has won both the Bram Stoker and World Fantasy awards, combined an older tale of hers with a new one to cr...

Breaking through

Sometimes writing is super easy! It’s like running – when you’re in shape and you go out running, you pass a point and have a period where it feels as though you could run forever. Or at least I remember having that feeling, back when I used to run regularly.

2017 is the color of sunshine!

That’s what happens when you have synesthesia! Although my mom would likely say it’s a different color, since our colors don’t always match.

I’m going to be a superstar!

In a little over a month, I’ll be attending the Superstars Writing Seminar in Colorado Springs. I owe Brenda Carr for this – she posted on Facebook last year about her experience both during and after the seminar, and it sounded so awesome that I signed up 11 months in advance.
