Goblins and dogs and paletas

This feels like it’s been the busiest summer of my entire life. I have no idea if this is true, but it certainly has been busier than the last few summers!

My short story “The Truth About Goblins” will appear in a Halloween-themed bundle very soon.

Hanging out with the dogs

That’s today’s post title because we had an unplanned vet visit with little Rosie, and just got a call this evening saying everything looks normal. HOORAY!!!!!

(For the curious: we found a lump on her neck yesterday, and it was larger today, which was disconcerting. The current theory is that it’s an infection of some sort, so she’s on antibiotics and we’ll get her checked out later this week to see if there’s a piece of foxtail grass or something that’s causing this.)

There once was a goblin…

My first ever goblin story is about a goblin named Bean. I have no idea where his name came from, but it’s clearly his name.

These ghosts don’t stand a chance…

Ghost-Hunting Critters, which contains my story “Clyde and the Ghost Cat,” is available for pre-order on Amazon!

This anthology is edited by J. A. Campbell, and all of the stories are set in her Brown, Ghost Hunting Dog universe. There are ghost hunting dogs, cats, a velociraptor, and even a goldfish.

A glimpse of a draft

The most important thing happening in my world right now is that we’re having our backyard landscaped.

And by ‘landscaped’ I mean we now have no grass, are down two trees, and by this time tomorrow the concrete patio that’s almost as old as I am will be ripped out. It’s both cool and alarming.

Writing-wise, I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had time to do much, but here’s a sample. Just keep in mind it’s a first draft.

Games and faeries and justice

Only a few more days left before The SF&F Binge Reader Bundle will be gone forever!

If you purchase the bundle, you can choose to donate a percentage of the purchase price to The AbleGamers Foundation, an organization that provides customized video gaming equipment to disabled people.

I interviewed Steve Spohn, the COO of AbleGamers, on Blackbird Publishing’s site. It was fascinating to learn about both the technology and the positive impact video gaming can have on someone’s life. I feel fo...

Justice is a-comin’

In the past few days I’ve read five or six stories for the justice-themed story bundle I’m working on, and WOW have they been fantastic.

Here’s what I gave the authors as a guideline:

The theme is justice.

Stories should show why being just matters, and/or what the consequences are for individuals, groups, towns, countries, or humanity if justice is not expected, encouraged, or enforced legally.

Your story can be positive or negative, upbeat or dark – anything is fine as long as your story...
