A Blue Christmas in July by Mellissa Yi
At the end ofGrand Rounds, I ran up to speak to the emergency doctor who'd presented a caseof a family that had collapsed after an ordinary meal.Iwas an M.D. studying emergency medicine myself, but I'd never seen a case likethis, with two men vomiting and a woman unconscious, their faces cyanotic, orblue from lack of oxygen—and when the police checked their apartment afterward,it looked

Snow or Sand? by Lynn Lovegreen
I like snow, in moderation. (We got a few feet too much snow last winter, but we got through it.) However, right now, with summer here and a trip coming up, I'm dreaming of sand.My husband grew up in California, and we visit fairly often. These photos are from our 2019 trip. One of my favorite things to do is walk on the beach. The feel of the sand, the sound of the crashing waves, and the

Romance Slam Jam Convention - 2023
I am hyped about attending my first writer's conference in years. Even though this three-day event will be held virtually, I can barely wait for the party to start. Romance Slam Jam (RSJ) is a readers and writers event promoting diversity in romance books. The first conference was held in 1995, in response to publishing gatekeepers who used to claim, "People won't buy black romance." Over the

Celebrating Christmas in July By Kathy Coatney
A fun fact about me is—I'm a big fanof winter. I love snow. I love cuddling up by the fire. I love to cross countryskiing. I don’t even mind shoveling snow, so winter is my jam. When I firststarted writing the Falling in Loveseries I set the story in winter. Christmas stories were really popular, but for some reason I resisted writing them. Finally, I thought this is silly.I love Christmas.

Do I Prefer Sand or Snow?
By Robin WeaverDefinitely snow.At least while it’s 80 degreesoutside. At midnight. Once I’m enduring the frigidtemperatures, I’ll likely change my mind.Nah. I probably won’t. Not just because I love sitting in front of aroaring fire or because I think sleeping under a down comforter is sheerheaven. And although I love skiing, wearing boots, and getting out of workbecause we’ve had a

Snow or sand? Give me another option, please.
Snow or sand? I’ll take a bit of either. But to be honest, my favourite time of year is autumn. My birthday is at the start of the season, as is a son, and a brother, and my hubby, and numerous cousins. As a kid, I got ridiculously excited about the new scribblers (what us NS kids called notebooks), pens, and the new box of crayons or coloured pencils at the start of the school year. Exciting too

Sand or Snow?
Why not both! I have to admit, I like both sand and snow for different reasons. Sand because I love the sound of the ocean, or really any water that is moving. The trickle of a stream, the rush of a river, the crashing of waves. All of those bodies of water usually have sand even if it's buried underneath river rock, kicked up by mud puppies in a stream, or warm and squishy under your toes at an
