Embracing the crone ...
I’m fast approaching another birthday, the same number as the last two digits of my year of birth. Wow, that just blew my mind. I tried to come up with another example, like turning 50 and born in 1950 – nope, not this year. Born in 1940 and about to turn 40? Doesn’t add up. But I was born in 1962 and will soon turn 62. That sounds significant. I’ll let you know if anything

Aging the Ups and Downs by Paty Jager
Aging as many say, isn’t easy. It is for your body as itslows down. Things you’ve done your whole life become harder to do, your memorystarts slipping, and unaccounted for aches show up.My 90-year-old mother-in-law tells me continually, “Don’tget old. It’s not fun.” This is a woman who has been a hard worker her wholelife and who can’t sit still. She has to have her hands doing

Commercials that Delight Us
Commercials that Delight UsBy Dari LaRocheI am a reader more than a television watcher, so it follows that I am generally not thrilled with commercials. Most times I mute them, then jump up and put in a load of laundry. Or unload the dishwasher. Or run across the street and check the mailbox. Or most anything other than watch and listen. Except for the Superbowl. True, I avidly

We click on the email(or tear open the envelope). As writers, our emotions are split—equal parts offear and anticipation. Okay, maybe 70/30.In amere

Commercials for Products that I Remember by Sarah Raplee
So many commercials, so few products and services I connect with them! What is that special something that makes that connection? From early childhood, I remember a jingle for Pepsodent Toothpaste: "You'll wonder where the yellow wentWhen you brush your teeth with Pepsodent!"I'm sure the catchy toon paired with the clever rhyme were enough to cement that earworm somewhere in my child's

Synergy between Life and Art by M. Lee Prescott
Sometimes there is a lovely synergybetween fiction and life, the imagination and reality, art and what lies rightin front of us. I am not the first writer to draw heavily from life for my art,for the stories pulled from the subconscious, the visceral life experiences thatthen become fiction as I tap away.Life – or a number of deeply livedexperiences – gave me a title and a pivotal event in
