They Don't Make Scary Movies Like They Used To

As a romance writer, you'd think that I'd be a fan of romcom movies, or Nicholas Sparks tear-jerkers, but I rarely watch a romance movie. Especially if I'm having a bad time with something and need to take my mind of things. I've come to the conclusion that 'happy endings' at a time when I'm not sure there's going to be one for whatever current situation is bothering me only make me feel worse.

Things That Go Bump in the Night ... by Delsora Lowe

October is known for many things. Beautiful falling leaves, at least in my neck of the woods. Cooling temps that are now considered bearable in comparison to hotter and hotter summers. Homecoming and fall sports like football and soccer and field hockey…at least before Covid put a kibosh on so many things like gathering for sports events. And, of course, Halloween, where things go bump in the

A Halloween Decorating Idea by Kristin Wallace

I can’t believe it’s October already! In so many ways time seems to have stopped mid-March and yet the calendar keeps changing.  I wanted to share something a little more lighthearted this month. It’s a Halloween decorating idea that is super cute and easy for even non-crafty people (which I definitely am) can do.  Now I did not come up with this idea on my own. I was in Party City looking for

One Characteristic of Light Paranormal

By Diana McCollum Light Paranormal In light paranormal one might find fanciful or funny characters. Perhaps the sidekick of the vampire is a dentist best friend. Or a teenage mermaid who when coming on to land loves watching the Disney movie The Little Mermaid.I chose two in my book The Witch with the Trident Tattoo.A few weeks ago  I wrote about James who was cursed to live for a few years as an

Scariest Scene?

Hi, I'm Pippa Jay, author of scifi and supernatural stories with a romantic soul. And I do not like scary things. Nope. I do not like to be scared one little bit. No horror films, no big rollercoasters, not even one of my kids jumping out and saying boo. On an early date with my husband, he thought I was joking about not liking horror and showed me a picture from one of his horror books of a

Everything Scary

Hello everyone!   I love love October. For me it's the final month before the seriously cold sets in.  And since I do most of my writing while the snow piles up over the next several months. I spend October out exploring with Charlie and our new 'puppy' (Milo is 4 months and 75 pounds). So while October can have lumpy rain, a couple of inches of snow, it also have days that like this...I found a

I Don't Scare Easily, But When I Do...

First, let me admit  I only read paranormal romances because whether the hero is a shapeshifter, vampire or fallen angel, we always know he is perfect for the heroine, whatever she might turn out to be. Most scary stories never interests me. You can keep that Steven King stuff far away from me (Although I might watch the Stand in December.)Deep inside, I'm still a romance writer.  My idea of

The Stuff of Nightmares by Eleri Grace

I too don’t write horror, suspense,
paranormal or another genre that might have a classic “scary scene.” I write WWII
historical novels – what’s scary about that?

Well, more than might be readily
apparent. As Judith noted, real life presents plenty of scary situations, and
war certainly amplifies dangerous situations.

One of the scariest scenes I’ve

Things that go Bump in the Night!

By: Marcia King-Gamblewww.lovemarcia.comWhen most of us think of October, we think of Halloween and Trick or Treat.  We think of pranks and rewards coming in the form of  sweets.  This October we were asked to share our scariest  scenes with you. Since I'm a contemporary writer, and not big on paranormal I really had to think back. Then it came to me, seventeen years ago I wrote a book titled,

A Little Spirit Paranormal by Paty Jager

I'm at the blog today to talk a bit about light paranormal in a book.  I don't know if someone before me went over the difference between dark and light paranormal but I'll do a brief overview. Dark paranormal is usually vampires, demons, werewolves, zombies and books with a darker almost Gothic theme. Light paranormal is usually witches, spirits, ghosts, with lighter themes than the dark
